I’ve been a regular at Nektar in Limoilou for a while, and there’s a lot to love about this coffee shop. The coffee is generally excellent, though it’s slightly more expensive than other nearby spots like Café Mila or Café Cantook. But you’re paying for quality, and the drinks here rarely disappoint. The service is also top-notch—staff are always friendly, and it’s a pleasure to be greeted with a warm smile.
However, the real reason I’m leaving this review is the internet speed. As someone who often comes here to work, the Wi-Fi has been a consistent frustration. A recent speed test showed just 8 Mbps download and 4 Mbps upload. I’m using a 2024 MacBook Pro with Private Relay off, no VPN, so it’s not an issue on my end. Unfortunately, in 2024, this speed just doesn’t cut it, especially when other nearby coffee shops offer much faster connections.
While I love the coffee and the vibe, the slow internet is a significant drawback for anyone who needs to get work done. Until this improves, I find myself leaning toward other places when I need a workspace as well as a good cup of coffee. If you’re here just to relax and enjoy a drink, Nektar is fantastic. But if you need reliable internet, you might want to consider other options.
