Took my parents here when they visited me for Lunar New Year. Originally from Wisconsin, there are only a couple of Vietnamese restaurants and none that specialize in certain items. They usually head to OC to grab Viet food, but I had to show them what SGV's got!
Tip: Cash only so be prepared!
Family-owned restaurant with the friendliest service and prices are extremely reasonable, which makes paying cash not as inconvenient (I rarely carry bills around these days). Hidden gem with only a few tables, but orders come out fast and take-out is an option where things are package really nicely.
Started with Banh Beo, bit-size steamed rice roll in sauce glasses filled with dried shrimp, green onions oil, and a fried wonton piece for added crisp. We asked for extra bird's eye chili which were cut up nicely so we could add one to every bite. Rice roll has the perfect bounciness and the fish sauce was perfect.
Then of course we had to get the Nem Nuong, spring rolls with a variety of meats. We opted for the combo and it was everything! 3 varieties of meat, fried wonton wrappers to add crisp (makes SUCH a difference), and lots and lots of herbs to go around. This was great to share and try different items.
Lastly, due to what we saw was popular demand we ordered 3 bun bo hues to go. Talk about FOMO - we saw so many people ordering this, we had to try for breakfast the next day. The bun bo hue was hearty, had all the toppings you'd expect and the broth was a good spiciness where you could easily add more if you wanted a bigger kick.
Will definitely be back!
