A Coffee-Obsessive’s Guide to Drinking the Best Coffee in Vancouver | Bon Appétit

"A bright, blond-wooded Gastown café with huge windows that create a sunny, welcoming room for anything from a quick snack to a leisurely meal; coffee is a focus, sourced from a rotating range of specialty roasters. The kitchen shines with dishes like a warm-spiced cauliflower hash topped with crispy fingerling potatoes and a poached egg, and a hearty Scotch egg for meat lovers; the pastry case rivals the city’s best, stocked with savory tarts, morning buns, danishes, croissants and a famously indulgent chocolate-cashew-sea-salt cookie." - ByChris Morocco

11 Best Coffee Shops in Vancouver | Condé Nast Traveler

"The owners of this top Gastown coffee bar set out to start a culture magazine, but ended up with one of the city’s top coffee shops instead. Unlike other top Vancouver coffee shops, Nemesis isn't a roaster. Rather, they buy from the best roasters around the world, and the baristas are famed for their pour-overs, which are all tailor-made at the brew bar. There’s also house-made apple cider, various teas, and kombucha on tap—and don't miss the pistachio cream kouign-amann, which one staff member has described as “super dangerous.”" - Jennifer Van Evra

Nemesis | Bon Appétit

"GO HERE: for Nemesis’ stellar coffee; lovely options for breakfast, lunch, and sweets; and a Scandinavian-inspired cafe design that makes the most of two huge walls with floor-to-ceiling windows. ORDER: a coffee from the current lineup (Five Elephant out of Berlin, if you see it); mushroom toast; and anything carby from pastry chef Daniel Munoz, like the million-layered kouign-amann. THE VIBE IS: stay-in-your-own-lane chill. The minimalist coffee mecca is popular for lunch, drinking solo with a book, or people-watching on a weekend morning as the Gastown crowd passes by. PRACTICAL STUFF: Open every day: Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (kitchen closes at 4 p.m.); and Saturday and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. —Lindsay Anderson" - Condé Nast

We came several times and were impressed with the pastries and service each time. There was always a line when we came, and all the workers are super friendly. All of the pastries are fresh, and the banana pastry was amazing (although quite pricy). Some of our other favourites were the Queen and almond croissants. Their brunch is also great, especially the mortadella sandwich. Drinks are also great too. Would highly recommend.

Google
Nemesis is one of those places that everyone in Vancouver seems to talk about — and while the food is definitely above average, it doesn’t quite live up to all the hype that the socials are giving it. The presentation is beautiful, the ingredients are clearly high quality, and the space itself has that trendy, minimalist vibe people love. That said, it feels a bit more like a place to be seen than to truly relax and enjoy a memorable meal. The dishes are tasty, but not mind-blowing, and the prices reflect the hype more than the experience. Worth visiting once, but not quite the life-changing brunch spot social media makes it out to be.

Google
Fun little cafe with table service and good pastries!🥐 They roast their own coffee (at different location). The espresso was typical Vancouver (acidic) but taken with milk was better. The atmosphere is lovely and staff very friendly.

Google
I had the opportunity to stop in twice. My first experience was warm and welcoming. I had my usual cappucino that I very much enjoyed. I was also offered water with my espresso and a barista asked if I wanted a refill. It was a nice gesture. My second experience was pleasant overall but they were much busier. Upon attempting to sit I was told that there was a wait time to be seated. Perhaps that should be posted somewhere. I had a decaf espresso and a mortadella sandwich. I enjoyed them both. I wasnt attended to like I was my first go-around. Overall a positive experience and I personally love their logo. Its an upside down spade of sorts.

Google
Great place if you want to catch a quick breakfast or grab a sandwich/pastry to go. Food is tasty - you can tell it’s freshly made. We really liked the avocado toast, mortadella supreme and the Espresso pain suisse. I think they do food better than coffee (not their forte imo) Overall, it’s a very solid breakfast spot.

Google
I went to Nemesis on a Sunday morning, and the place was full of people and had a lively vibe. I ordered the Black Sesame Corn Latte, and it was surprisingly really good! I wasn’t sure how corn and coffee would taste together, but I liked it a lot. Overall, it was a nice experience. I’m giving 4 stars only because I had to wait around 10 minutes for my latte

Google
This is one of the best spots I’ve found in Canada. So good I came back twice! I had the bodega with bacon and then again with avocado, both incredible! I also had the blueberry cheesecake danish and the banana danish, both such great combinations. The coffee is top notch! I love that you order at the counter then sit, it’s adds to the casual, comfortable experience. If I weren’t heading home to Australia tomorrow I would be back again!

Google
This place is pricey as hell but damn the food is so good. This is by far the best breakfast sandwich I’ve had in Canada. I kept telling my self that I was going to try something new every morning in Vancouver but Nemesis it was. If it’s not broken why fix it. Until next time!

Yelp
This place is amazing! Came here only wanting to have a snack but ended up eating 2 sandwiches instead and they were the two best breakfast style sandwiches I've ever had! Mortadella Supreme : the immaculately buttery croissant style bun surrounds a delicious but not to heavy warmed mortadella that envelopes an egg with a runny center. The Swiss cheese is the perfect complement and the mustard is an ideal addition or acid. This is heaven in a sandwich. Must order. It's not just for breakfast either. Bodega Sandi - Would have been my all time favourite if not for the previous sandwich. Very similar to the mortadella except it's a potato brioche and thousand island aioli. It really just boils down to my preference for croissants and I love the mustard in the other sandwich. And amazing second best ever for me. Pull apart bread was excellent with a savoury center The beet coffee style drink was surprising, unique and delicious. The pumpkin spice variant had an unwelcome element of hot spice in it that made drinking it uncomfortable. If you want your drink spicy then go for it. Otherwise it's a hard pass. Server was very friendly and helpful. Location was clean and nice. Great coffeehouse vibe. This place is a gem.

Yelp
The line at Nemesis stretched out the door on a cold, rainy Saturday morning, but thankfully it moved quickly. My friend and I shared an avocado toast and a pistachio swirl croissant, along with an Americano and a latte. We were seated at a clean table already set with utensils and water, which was a nice touch. Our food arrived shortly after, the pistachio swirl croissant was perfectly crisp and fresh, with a light pistachio flavor. The avocado toast was one of the most beautiful and delicious we've ever had, topped with a butternut squash mousse and broccolini. Everything tasted so fresh and thoughtfully prepared. Don't be discouraged by the line, it's absolutely worth the wait!

Yelp
TL;DR: Excellent coffee, fresh pastries, spotless space, and attentive service. No WiFi--just good vibes and great taste. My first cafe in Vancouver! If every café cared this much, the world would be a calmer, better-caffeinated place. The Ethiopian pour over came with bright orange notes and that "I can't believe coffee can smell this good" aroma. Lol. They even brought it to my table, which already put this place ahead of half the cafes I've ever been t The pistachio swirl was a pleasant surprise--crunchy, fresh, and just nutty enough without tasting like pistachio perfume. You can tell they actually bake, not just unwrap. The ambience is spotless. Staff wipe down tables and chairs immediately after use, which sounds minor until you realize how rare that is. And service? They nailed it. Water, utensils, everything appeared without asking. No awkward flagging down required. Only thing missing: WiFi. But honestly, it fits the vibe. They want you to sip, relax, and exist in the moment--not hide behind your screen. Would absolutely come back, caffeine and crumb trail included.

Yelp
One of the best coffees and pastries ive had in a while!! The space here is wonderfully designed with lots of seating. I immediately loved it. After seeing so many videos of the breakfast sandwich, I had to order the mortadella supreme and an oat milk latte - it was SO good and unique and I loved the coffee too! Presentation was 10/10. When I ordered I had eyed the delicious pastries and went back for the banana danish. I am so glad I did because it was phenomenal! Maybe the best bite of my trip to Vancouver.

Yelp
Had a chance to enjoy Nemesis Coffee while in town and let's say that all-in-all it's a very cute spot but it just didn't feel welcoming whatsoever. They have a few tables to enjoy your delicious pastries and bevvies outside and if you desire to sit inside you'll first wait in line, order, and then be ushered to a table. Once it was my turn to order it felt a bit awkward after I had shared it was my first time there. I ended up just settling for a double espresso and a blueberry pastry. The pastry itself was absolutely delicious and had me in awe so I knew the pistachio croissant for my fiance was going to be divine (and it traveled well). I waited for quite some time and it felt like I was simply forgotten. I tried to ask for the wifi password and that felt like I was asking for something beyond their means and my pastry and drink didn't come out till after I inquired about my order after waiting almost twenty minutes. It then took another ten minutes to receive. It was ok, not sure if I'd come back though but appreciate having the opportunity to go.

Yelp
Woow this just became one of my fav cafes. The pastries and breakfast items were amazing - My favorites were the avocado toast and pear chai croffin. The sesame corn latte got a bit too creamy/sweet at the end for me, but everything else was soo good!

Yelp
One cafe kept coming up when I was doing trip research, and that was Nemesis Coffee, more specifically their mortadella supreme ($12.50). I can see why it is so highly lauded, as the supreme croissant had an excellent integrity, with loads of flaky layers, whilst holding together mortadella, fried egg, and Swiss cheese. The mustard aioli helped to cut through the richness of all the cheese and buttery croissant too. As a Lafayette Bakery semi-regular, I found that the supreme at Nemesis felt more structurally sound but as a result, more crispy and overbaked rather than a softer, more traditional croissant. I did like the savory breakfast sandwich twist, as I generally see supremes in the sweet category. I noticed a lot of patrons also ordered their Green Hash ($18.50) but I ended up getting the Salmon Toast ($18.50) instead. I loved the pairing of whipped goat cheese with an orange olive tapenade-- it really highlighted the tang of both the citrus and goat cheese. I would have liked a bit more salmon on my toast, but overall it was a solid choice. I also tried the Blueberry Cheesecake Danish ($7.25), which was good but lacked something sharp in flavor to cut through the custard, like makrut lime from Radio Bakery's version. The jalapeno aged cheddar croissant ($8) was also serviceable, but I did find that the interior lacked the layers I was looking for in a laminated pastry and tasted a little gummy. I also ordered their Batch Brew ($4.50) and the coffee was fresh and had notes of honey and apples. Very impressed with the quality of their coffee! Overall, I would definitely recommend Nemesis' savory offerings over their sweet ones and I really like that they are strict with seating-- you will be asked to leave if you have already finished your food and there is another party waiting.

Yelp
My goodness. This place was so good we came back for a second visit on a 3 day trip. Truly great pastries. The Mortadella Supreme and the Blueberry Cheesecake Danish were AMAZING. The Salmon toast was also just as good. I may sound repetitive but the coffee was also just as good! Generally coffee places have either good pastries or good coffee but this place really nailed both. I can't say I was especially impressed by anything because everything we tried blew our minds. Service is very friendly (they recommended the danish so I may owe him my life). The vibes are great. I'm not sure if this is a Canadian thing but we were given a seat after we ordered which I'm sure is to ensure fast turnover because the line to order was pretty long.

Yelp
Notes from my experience at Nemesis: * Only oat milk and whole milk * Only 1 size drink * Very friendly service. Sat us and brought glasses of water * Pastries were above average * Hipster, trendy vibes

Yelp
Visited Vancouver for first time and came here based off the reviews. I have to say it lives up to the hype! There can be a line here but it's usually doesn't take too long. I must mention the Mortadella Supreme sandwich. It is so delicious and perfect. Everything comes together perfectly. All I can say is you must try it! I would come back just for this. I had a hot latte here and the seasonal special coco americano. The drinks are small but are good quality. The latte was pretty standard. The coco americano was super interesting and I really liked it. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I absolutely love coconut. It was light, refreshing, and slightly sweet. I would order it again. I also tried some other pastries. The tiramisu cruffin looked cool, but wasn't anything crazy. I probably wouldn't order it again. The Queen was sweet and salty with a caramelized crust. Would order again. The staff here are also super friendly and helpful if you have questions!

Yelp
Nemesis Coffee was one of our first eats during our trip to Vancouver. They did not disappoint. Although they are known for their coffee, my caffeine-sensitive self opted for a matcha drink. Matcha Calamansi Soda (4.5/5) - This was a refreshing matcha ginger beer drink. I was slightly disappointed that the calamansi flavor wasn't very strong. Mortadella Supreme (5/5) - The tastiest breakfast sandwich made with mortadella, fried egg, a tasty sauce, and spiral croissant pieces. The saltiest of the mortadella was balanced by the buttery croissant and mustard aioli. Pistachio Croissant (4/5) - We wanted to try something sweet from their bakery display and the pistachio croissant stood out. The pistachio flavor wasn't pronounced, but the croissant was still enjoyable.
google avatar

Jesse R.

Yelp
I told y'all I'd be back. The service was great and it was pretty quick. I got the mortadella sandwhich (and the last one). I'm disappointed because the two other people who wanted to try the sandwhich didn't get to because of the limit. This happened the last time I came as well. I didn't care for the be matcha latte but everyone else did. The coconut water espresso thing was so bomb. My boyfriend loved the mocha... The pastries we got was really good. The only complaint is that it's always cold and doesn't ask if we want it warmed up. The croffin was my favorite. Cute little coffee shop, but can get busy'

Yelp
Nemesis is hands down one of my fav cafes in Vancouver. This was my first time visting the Gastown location though! I went on a Saturday morning/afternoon and there was a crowd but we were seated in about 25mins. The space is not as big as their GNW location but it's still good enough for a small group. I got their tiramisu croissant which is one of my fav, they don't skimp out on the filling and it's so decedant. Also got their chocolate croissant which was pretty good! For savoury I got their mortadella, no words to describe how good it is. For drinks, I tried their new coconut iced coffee because it sounded so unique and I love coffee. I should say I didn't like it as much as I hoped I would, it wasn't too bad but I didn't think the coffee and coconut flavours went too well together. Overall, Nemesis still ranks as one of my top cafes in Vancouver.
google avatar

Yelp
This coffee shop has it all! Great ambiance, tons of indoor and outdoor seating, friendly baristas and a nice clean bathroom! What more can you ask for...oh and yes delicious coffee and a superb decaf mocha!!
google avatar

Yelp
We were in Vancouver for vacation and this was one of the first places we went to for breakfast. There was a line but that's a good sign. Right? We ordered the Mortdella sandwich that came on a special croissant roll. Very good and tasted like a classier bologna, egg and cheese sando. Next the Bodega sandwich. Bacon, egg and cheese on a soft roll. We added bacon and avocado (of course!) and devoured it happily. I had an iced Americano that was excellent. And we ordered a couple chocolate chip cookies to go. We will be coming back again soon. 8/10

Yelp
Nemesis is probably one of my favorite cafés I've ever been to. The vibe, the food, the drink, everything just hits. I went on a Saturday morning and, no surprise, the line was out the door. Totally worth the wait though. I grabbed the blueberry cheese danish and oh my god, amazinggg. I feel like blueberry flavor usually gets lost or tastes kind of artificial, but here it was front and center. It came through the cream cheese filling in the best way. Tangy, sweet, creamy. Just everything you want in a pastry. The avocado toast was next level too. They topped it with za'atar and chickpeas and it all just worked. Earthy, crunchy, herby. The flavors came together in a really satisfying way that made it feel different from the average avo toast. And the ube matcha. So good. The matcha had that deep, rich green color that makes you feel like they know what they're doing. The ube didn't taste like fake syrup at all. It had this mellow, nutty flavor that balanced out the matcha perfectly. I'd fly back to Van from NYC just for this cafe.
google avatar

Cynthia S.

Yelp
Service was a bit slow due to it being the weekend but it was with the wait to try this sesame corn latte! The nuttiness of the sesame came through strongly so the corn flavor was a bit muted. I wish the corn highlighted more because it's such a unique flavor!
google avatar

Lydia X.

Yelp
THE BERRY CRUFFIN!!!! DEFINITELY A HIGHLIGHT!! The coffee here is also really high quality. They don't really do sweet lattes here which is what I would typically go for but the coffee is so high quality here that it doesn't even need the sweeteners. This place gets pretty crowded so I would definitely recommend getting here early. I would go back to vancouver just to get another cruffin from nemesis
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
If you're looking for a place for coffee and breakfast, look no further. There was a line when we came but it moved so fast( it's worth the wait. The Mortadello breakfast sandwich is a MUST. If you're here, get that and you'll thank me later. The best way to start the morning!
google avatar

Carissa M.

Yelp
The avocado toast with a poached egg is INSANE. Great coffee too. Loud and busy on Saturday morning. Lovely time tho.
google avatar

Abhinav J.

Yelp
Nemesis Cafe has absolutely stolen my heart (and my taste buds!). My partner and I find ourselves drawn back almost every other weekend, and for good reason. While their menu offers a fantastic variety, there are two absolute standouts that keep us coming back. The Tiramisu Croissant is an otherworldly creation - seriously, it's out of this world! And don't even get me started on their Coffee Mocha; it's so incredibly good it almost seems too good to be true. If you're in Vancouver and looking for a truly exceptional cafe experience, Nemesis Cafe is, hands down, the best. You won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Heather H.

Yelp
Not a local but had a few coffee places this trip and boy am I excited to come back to this place. This is my ideal coffee shop experience. Firstly, the coffee is dang good, iced latte perfection. Also tried the seasonal brown butter chai which was scrumptious and would be perfect for a fall or winter day. Also got a breakfast sandwich Ambiance is quaint, cute, perfect. Service is so kind- order at the counter and they will tell you where to sit. They automatically set up the table for you with water and give table service. Literally incredible.
google avatar

Marcel M.

Yelp
Came here because my gf saw the croissant breakfast sandwich. Overall it was really tasty. The mustard was ok, but would maybe get it without next time. The strawberry pastry was delicious, but it seemed like it was sitting for a while. Would have been incredible if it was fresh. All the staff were amazing, even though it was super busy. Overall a good experience but mayyybe overhyped. Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Marcels foodie score: 4.3/5
google avatar

Nolan F.

Yelp
I got a pour over coffee and lemon meringue croissant. Great coffee, great pastry. This place lives up to the online hype I read. Service, however, needs reorganization. They had one line for all orders and clearly a lot of people wanted to dine in. The guy who was running the register was also tending to tables. Which is why the wait was so long. They should have two different lines and/or keep employees to a specific role, not multiple different roles.
google avatar

Giselle M.

Yelp
I'd had Nemesis bookmarked for a while and finally had the chance to check them out on a recent trip to Vancouver. My hubby & I always seek out the best local coffee shops anywhere we go, and although we already had a few favorite spots in Vancouver, we also wanted to try some new ones. We actually landed at YVR, hopped on the Canada Line into the city, and walked over to Gastown! We were greeted by one of the best matcha lattes we've ever had, awesome coffee, and standout customer service. Instant fans over here! The employees are friendly and welcoming, and even instantly brought out 2 glasses of water to where we were about to sit. Such a simple yet highly appreciated touch! They also brought out our drinks to our table versus most places that call out your name to pick them up at the counter. The cafe itself is beautiful and pretty relaxing despite it being a bustling shop. Lots of natural wood accents, clean lines, and plants hanging from the ceiling. We loved it so much we came back again the next day! Seriously their matchas are heavenly: high quality matcha, not overly sweet, slight nutty flavor, and super comforting and delicious with the steamed oat milk. I make matcha lattes at home regularly so when we get them out and about, we can't help but be "matcha snobs!" I guess the same can be said about us and espresso too ;) Great experience and a new favorite for us in Vancouver! Also wanted to give a shout out to one of the friendliest and nicest people working there: Mariah. Thank you for the being so kind!
google avatar

Anjelica G.

Yelp
Word cannot explain how good this coffee is baristas were kind and very helpful when choosing a bag to take home. These guys know what they're doing in terms of coffee. I got an iced americano and my husband got the cold brew. Both were 10/10. Lots of places to sit inside and outside when the weather is nice. Would come back often if we lived near by.
google avatar

Wendy Z.

Yelp
I ordered the seasonal drink cuz it sounded cool but it was mid Also ordered sausage and eggs cuz I thought it was a sandwich but it was actually sausage and eggs which is my fault cuz I'm illiterate but it was mid too
google avatar

Maric S.

Yelp
Very cute coffee shop. It was hard to choose a pastry because they all looked delicious. In regard to the coffee, there was only one size. Limited milk options. No flavors. They suggested adding simple syrup in lieu of vanilla syrup. I honestly could not taste it.
google avatar

Conway L.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try Nemesis Coffee for so long and I took the first opportunity I got & it did NOT disappoint. Parking is a bit hectic since it's downtown but I was able to find parking by Simon Fraser Uni. The interior was beautiful and the lighting was one of a kind. I really enjoyed the ambience and the noise level as it just seemed like the coffee shop was bustling with excitement! I got their regular espresso with Ethiopia beans and it was fantastic. The aroma and fragrant taste along with the velvet consistency was too awesome! I also ordered the tiramisu croissant which was also a hit with my friend and I. The crispiness of the croissant was much appreciated and the tiramisu was perfect. Some other notable dishes we got were the cinnamon swirl and avocado toast but there weren't anything special. I'd definitely recommend nemesis if you are in the area and I am coming back every single time!
google avatar

Travis T.

Yelp
The matcha latte was soothing and wasn't too sweet at all. The smoked salmon on toast was very delicious and the wait was worth it since there's a line for a reason. Overall, I would return just for the experience.
google avatar

Thu P.

Yelp
I got a mortadella croissant and cornflake cookie here. The mortadella croissant was good, but my expectations might have been too high. The croissant had a nice texture, but there was not enough mortadella in the ratio. The yolky egg overpowers the flavours a bit. I also didn't particularly like the sauce that accompanies.. Just a preference thing! However, the cornflake cookie I got was phenomenal. It was also huge! Definitely worth the price for a premium small batch cookie. Next time I come, I want to try all their cookie flavours!!! Service is quick considering how many people were there and how many people were lined up. It's a very casual cafe, but it's really bustling in there. It looked like you'd have to go very early or be lucky to get a seat.
google avatar

Sadaf S.

Yelp
Quite honestly the best and most unique breakfast sandwich I've had! The crispy, buttery croissant "bread" is what makes this perfect! I substituted the meat for avocado. Just one bite into this yolky, crispy, buttery goodness and I knew this was my favorite item in Vancouver. If I could have I would have had this every day. Still dreaming about it! We tried one of every pastry because they all looked so good!!! The pistachio croissant tastes like bakhlava! The mango matcha ube croissant was out of this world. The apple tart and chocolate chip cookies were delicious. Their coffees were great too!
google avatar

Sally L.

Yelp
**3 stars because the coffee, but the pastries would be 4 stars!! stopped by around 10AM on a monday. found street parking out front. it was pretty full and most tables were taken. there was a line to order. ordered the strawberry and pistachio croissant and the tiramisu croissant. these were so tasty!! perfect sweet treat to start the morning. not too sweet, just right. would love to come back to try their other pastries. the iced coffee with oat milk was just okay. saw good reviews about the coffee so was a bit disappointed. :/ overall a good experience. would recommend trying out!
google avatar

Emily S.

Yelp
Came in at 10am on a Monday and it was quite busy. We got the tiramisu croissant and strawberry pistachio danish which were both 10/10! I had high hopes for the coffee- I ordered an iced latte with honey (they don't have flavored syrups but do have honey and simple syrup), but I'm not sure if it was just a one off thing but my coffee was watery and sour- couldn't taste the honey at all it just tasted really sour overall which was disappointing. Would definitely come back for the pastries and to try the other drinks still
google avatar

Cate K.

Yelp
Line was out the door but not bad. This isn't a large place yet there's ample seating. Breakfast sandwiches are made to order and it was tasty. Came here after my night shift and drove here straight from work, took a Couple of hours. It's out of my way lol so I doubt I'll be back anytime soon. But it's delicious.
google avatar

Dana S.

Yelp
It's always an elevated experience here with great food and drink and friendly service. The shop has a warm and modern aesthetic with lots of seating, larger tables for groups, and smaller tables and a large communal table for smaller groups and singles. During busy hours they do assigned seating but they usually let you sit where you want when it's not too crowded. The baristas bring your food and drink to you with water and will clean up when you're finished. I've tried a lot of the tea drinks here and they are all great whether you go for straight up brewed tea or something specialty. I would say I like their tea better than the coffee, but I've only had the coffee once at another location in a flat white, so I might need a larger sample size to make a definite statement. The kitchen serves interesting and delicious brunch fare. The prices are up from average cafe prices, which is mostly fine since the food is very classy and prepared to order, but it's always kind of depressing to pay $14 for one slice of avocado toast. The baked goods are also creative and very good. The cinnamon swirl didn't do much for me, but I really liked the cruffins and cornflake cookie. Aside from the few savoury options, the croissants and cruffins are of the more indulgent/desserty variety. Everything on the menu changes seasonally so there are always new flavours.
google avatar

Reagan D.

Yelp
Amazing. Food was spectacular and drinks were yummy. We sat outside and it was a perfect day to breathe in fresh air and enjoy breakfast. The service was friendly and they bring your items to your table right after ordering.

Yelp
This is a popular place. There is a decent amount of sitting, but that can quickly fill up on the weekends. The coffee and food came out pretty quick. The aesthetic of the place is great. They do not have menus posted though, I believe this is to ensure the lines continue to move. I had to take a picture and then go back to order.

Yelp
Nemesis Coffee is a chain in Vancouver and I've heard so many great things about how good their products are and how aesthetic the cafes are. So when I visited Vancouver in Oct 2022 with my partner, I knew I had to pay a visit. Make sure to come early, since there was a line out the door especially on a Sunday morning! We were able to snag a table inside and ordered our drinks and pastries. My partner is super particular about his croissants and he enjoyed his regular croissant so much that he bought a few extra to bring home to the bay area. We tried the Tiramisu Croissant - the croissant was perfectly crispy and flaky, and there was definitely a lot of coffee cream filling inside. My order I opted for the strawberry cheesecake, and it was also the balance of not too sweet as well and plenty of filling inside. I can't wait to come back to try more of their Instagrammable croissants!

Yelp
Nice spot, great service with super friendly and kind staff. There's pretty ample seating, with a large community table. All the bakery items were delicious!

Yelp
So many people rave about the breakfast sandwich here and I was pleasantly blown away by how good it was. The croissant as sandwich bread was great! Crispy, buttery, and not too greasy. The filling was high quality and the egg was surprisingly my favorite part! Sooooo yummy. I highly recommend the Mortadella Supreme! I also couldn't help myself and got a Tiramisu Croissant. The balance of the perfectlt buttery croissant shell and the coffee cream at the center was spectacular. Topped with the sweet whipped cream too? I LOVE IT!

Yelp
Solid matcha and pastries! Seating is quite limited but they will quickly clear a table for you if you let them know that you're planning to dine-in when ordering at the counter. The strawberry croissants are very popular and the location is in the heart of Gastown. Avocado toast is also very well made.

Yelp
Our first stop after departing from the airport was Nemesis. I seen 3 different reels and TikTok's about this place while compiling a list of things to do for a long weekend trip. I ordered the cashew chocolate chip cookie and a matcha to start. The cookie was light and chewy while the matcha was simple and cozy for my belly. Then my man came in from parking and ordered "The Queen." It was salty and sweet either way a soft interior and an extra crunch on the bottom that was caramelized. He said he knew it was a great choice because it was short stock. Our sandos were delicious and light thanks to the croissant bun that they clearly perfected. It held up very well to the last bite. I loved the yolk bursting from the sandwich.

Yelp
Loved this place! I came here for the first time on a Monday morning in November. It was about a 10min walk away from my hotel on the Waterfront. The service was great, and the food was even better. I got a Flat White Coffee, Plain Croissant, Pistachio Swirl and a Mortadella Sandwich. All of it was so tasty and fresh!

Yelp
Stopped here to get coffee on the way to Stanley park! I ordered the matcha ube latte. When I got it, I realized I didn't order it iced. I asked for a cup of ice but instead they made me a new drink which was super sweet. All of my friends liked their drinks too which ranged from a cappuccino to a mocha to drip coffee to a single espresso shot. Despite us coming around 12pm and it being a bit busy, we all got our drinks about 5-10 minutes after ordering. Their pastries, especially their croissants looked yummy. There was a lot of inside and outside seating. Would come here again if I was in Gastown.

Yelp
Excellent coffee and pastries. There was a line out the door but it was totally worth the wait! We got pastries and coffee to go and it didn't take too long. They have some unique offerings in the pastry case so I needed that time to decide! I ordered the featured drip coffee and it was well balanced with good flavor. For pastries, we went with the strawberry & pistachio danish and the cardamom & pear cruffin. The cruffin was a standout for me - flaky pastry filled with well-spiced pear and the cardamom whip on top was perfection. And the stamp on the to go bag was so cute. :) Definitely want to go back and try more...especially the croissants!

Yelp
Wanted to try the best coffee shops on my little Vancouver trip and Nemesis seemed like a great place to try! Came to this location and there was a bit of a line, but it wasn't quite as bad as it looked from the outside. The wait was a little long but not ridiculous. Lots of people dining in. I can see why because it's cute in here and they clearly put effort into presentation! I can't resist a seasonal special so I got their Americano coconut water rice drink, not sure what the name of it was. My husband got a mocha with an extra double shot of espresso. My drink looked so cool! But more importantly, tasted delicious. I love coconut and the cloud on top was the perfect touch. My husbands mocha was very strong, just like he wanted! I also got the pull apart croissant which had chive cream cheese in it and everything bagel seasoning on top. Shared it with my son and we crushed it. Amazing. Baristas were super nice too. Glad I got to visit here, I'll be recommending to anyone I know visiting Vancouver!

Yelp
Phenomenal!!! Their building is absolutely breathtaking ~ We ordered their pistachio spiral croissant and pull apart bread. It would've been nice if we asked them to heat it up - but oh well! Bought two of their coffee beans and each bag you buy comes with a free cup of coffee which is nice :) their maple hojicha is also really good! An absolute must try!

Yelp
It was busy when we got there and there was a line outside. We ordered the ube matcha lattes and they were great! We didn't try any pastries but they looked good and might try some next time.
