Neo coffee bar is a cafe known for french-japanese fusion baked goods and desserts. They serve a range of coffee, teas, zero caffeine cafe drinks like sparkling juices. They also have some bistro items like sandwiches on their menu. Historically, they were only open from early morning to late afternoon. Now, it seems they've extended their hours to offer alcohol in the evenings.
I used to come here a few times per week to pass time before I headed off to work nearby. At 7am on weekdays, you can expect minimal people dining in and a few guests flowing in and out to get their morning coffee. It's a great quiet atmosphere (with the exception of staff and coffee machine background noises), perfect for when you need to get some work or studying done or read a book or if you simply just want to take the time to be present.
They have ~12 2-person tables along their walls, a large table on the far end of the cafe, and during warmer weather, they have a dedicated outdoor patio with ~8 2-person tables. Their interior decor is modern, natural, and minimalist. It's a pretty place to be.
Their service is friendly, nothing outstanding. They have an accessible unisex washroom that is clean but a little unkept.
What always made me come back was when I discovered that if you order one of the Japanese teas HOT and for dine in, they serve it in a fancy schmancy clear glass tea pitcher with a tea cup on the side. The tea is supposed to give you enough for 2-3 cups. (I clearly remember it being 3 cups yet this current visit, it's only 2 cups.........shrinkflation??) It always makes me feel so special and helps add to the start of my day.
What I never liked: the morning selection of pastries never changes. They also don't have any other food items available other than the usual: breakfast cookie, matcha white chocolate cookie, ~4 types of croissant (plain butter, seasonal flavour, almond croissant, croissant sandwich). Also, I've tried their sandwiches and even though the fillings are generous, it's salty, which I feel just cancels the whole dish out from being good. I also don't like how they implemented the no laptop policy (even though I rarely work there with my laptop lol). While I get why, I feel like they should've capitalized on people's money instead and offered dining limits unless you pay every hour like an internet cafe lol. I loved this cafe because they didn't care much as long as you pay. It's hard to find cafes or anywhere to sit with a plug and wifi, even if you're willing to pay for the time spent staying there.
Anyway, my go-to: the gyokuro kabusecha hot tea paired with one of their pastries. The kabusecha has a strong umami flavour that cuts through the richness of the pastries without overpowering it.
Overall, I'd return because it's one of very few cafes in the area open at 7am but it's no longer a top or recommended choice.
