"Chef-patrons Sonja Baumann and Erik Scheffler propose fine dining cuisine in a modern and completely unpretentious restaurant with an open kitchen. In an enjoyably down-to-earth atmosphere, diners tuck into dishes that offer an unusual taste experience, with ingredients mostly sourced from the local area; some are even foraged by the chefs themselves. In the evening, as "Biota", the restaurant proposes two seasonal set menus – omnivore or plant-based – composed of four, six or eight courses, featuring dishes such as pike-perch with mirabelle and seaweed or pointed cabbage and aubergine. As "Neo" it serves delicious breakfast options from 10am to 3pm." - Michelin Inspector

We ate here in May 2023 and again now. The food is really nice and is a relaxed atmosphere, with a nice central location. This year the wine selection (with the wine pairing) was really nice. We felt that the courses really worked well with each other and the pairing. Deserts were also very nice, they were quick to adapt with allergies that weren’t mentioned (our fault for not specifying, we had booked close to the date and forgot to mention.) I really like the course with the red pepper and other friends really liked the course with cologne sourced mushroom with ribwot plantain and chilli. Course with onion was really nice. Wish they accepted cash payment, would eat here more often if so. The no dress code / casual dress code is a very nice touch and makes the experience feel comfortable and modern. Thanks again for the lovely evening.

The food was excellent, the service was friendly and attentive. I love how modern and innovative the courses were. We had one vegan menu and the rest had the omnivore version. Several dishes were vegan across both menus. Some dishes were a bit too spicy for my liking, but I generally don't cope with spice well. But I was able to eat them all. Bring lots of time. The 6 course menu entertained us for 3.5 hours. Interesting and vast wine list. Very knowledgeable sommelier. They also have interesting non-alcoholic options and even a non-alcoholic drinks pairing.

Excellent service and nice atmosphere. Food is well made with various interesting tastes. Some dishes were odd but it's part of the experience to try something different and they nailed it. And we definitely left the place feeling very full.

Incredible breakfast! Really impressive with how personalized the experience was. Small location meaning better service and quality. Food was unique and delicious. Breakfast at this quality at affordable prices is hard to find! Highly recommend

It was a lovely evening with a different spin for the palate. Very clean, regional and just enough Schnickschnack!

Absolutely incredible. Hands down one of my top 3 restaurant experiences and a must visit when in Cologne. The service and food are both supreme. The food is experimental but not totally loco. Thank you and we will be back.

A meal I could eat over and over again. We came here to celebrate a birthday, and the restaurant was hip and casual, yet refined... and the food did not disappoint. Attentive staff. Beautiful plating. And a homemade bread I’ll be dreaming of. Went for the six course, and regretted not going for the eight to see what other interesting flavor combinations would come out of the kitchen. Thanks for the memorable meal!

Love for both dinner and breakfast, very original and cool. Great hardworking chefs. Definitely worth it! Also menu changes quite often so you never get bored of coming over!

Yelp
We came at 11 am for breakfast and was told to come back at 1 pm for lunch. I wasn't very impressed with the food and the prices. I get that the food is very different from Classic German food of sausages and schnitzel. Not worth the price point or wait. Try elsewhere.

Yelp
I read so many good reviews about this Michelin star restaurant so I decided to give it a try during our visit in Cologne. I booked it about 1.5 months prior to my visit and I had to switch my whole itinerary to fit in this section. I thought I was very lucky to be able to book this restaurant, but it turns out to be a total disappointment. 1. When we arrived (on time) there was a table available (2 seater) but they didn't give us that table and instead we were told to sit on a high chair. 2. After they gave us the menu, they literally came back 3 times in 5mins asking if we were ready to order (it felt like they wanted us to eat quick and kick us out). 3. Food is not cheap but I was not wow with the food quality and the ingredients used. Honestly, I expect more for a Michelin star restaurant. 4. We ordered the BBQ Benedict and the Rosti Waffle, and the food presentation didn't impress me at all. In conclusion, there are way better options out there so don't waste your time in here...not worth it

Yelp
Where to find a good breakfast? How about at the 2ndrunner-up for most unpretentious restaurant ever. Open kitchen with a strong "diner" feel for the 24 or so seats. Most of staff wearing t-shirts, and if the chef wasn't wearing her whites, this might just be another "greasy spoon," as the older folks used to say... They even hid their "2021 * Michelin" plaque up on a shelf, behind a cat statue and a jar of pickled beets. But everything is spotless, the servers attentive and most important was the simple but excellent food, such as the pumpkin-horseradish eggs Benedict with pumpkin seed foam (photo). I'll be back. 2021 08 28. M1.
