The Best Restaurants in Raleigh, North Carolina | Bon Appétit

"At Neomonde, you’ll find some of the most consistently good, unfussy, and reasonably priced food in this city. Long before a “mediterranean diet'' was ever en vogue, the Saleh brothers—from the mountainous region of northern Lebanon—were steadfastly churning out stellar home-cooked Lebanese food from an unassuming space located in one of Raleigh’s strip malls. Today they have multiple locations in adjacent cities, like Morrisville. For me and my little family, tearing apart a freshly baked pita and dragging the bread through a bowl of thick, aromatic hummus will always be our most favored (and predictable) pleasure."

Google
I got the Neomande veggie platter, and it was quite tasty! I do wish they’d given me more pita for the baba ghanouj and hummus, but otherwise the food was hearty and good. The grape leaves were good, too! Wasn’t super full after my meal, but it was still decent. Service was really good, too!

Google
I have been craving Mediterranean and Neomonde was high ranked in searches. I’m not going to lie - I was a little intimidated by the menu only because you can tell it’s authentic Mediterranean. Definitely want to try a gyro and some of the desserts

Google
This meal was actually comically bad. Everything about it, literally. I ordered a small kebab plate with quinoa tabouli and couscous chickpea salad. Bruh...the 1 small steak kebab I got was almost inedible. It was SO dry and SO overcooked, it was like eating tree bark. It was straight up BURNT. And why did they even include those sad onions underneath? Weird. The tabouli...had no quinoa. Maybe like 1 or 2 little grains but that's it. The parsely and mint salad was fine i guess, but where was my quinoa?? The couscous chickpea salad...should have been good. Could have been good. But the smell....when my first forkfull made it's way close to my nose and mouth, I was met with the smell of...rotting, sweaty food? Like it had been sitting out of temp for hours basically. Did not eat a single bite out of fear of food sickness. The pita? What a joke! 2 dry as a desert hockey pucks from a bag, definitely store bought and not from a good store. Literally walmart has better pita. What a waste of $20. Will 100% never be back and will never recommend them to any of the tens of thousands of social media followers looking for Mediterranean recommendations.

Google
Fresh and so delicious! They offered a variety of grains, meats, sauces and vegetables to add into the house made pita bread. Since this was my first visit, I had a difficult time choosing what to try but the server was very patient and made some great suggestions. My sister ordered just the beef/lamb shawarma and I had the chicken shawarma with couscous (loved it!!!!!!) and a pomegranate salad. Very affordable. This is one of those restaurants worth regular visits because it is full of flavorful healthy options — so much to enjoy— Definitely get another baklava!

Google
Neomonde Mediterranean in Morrisville served me one of the saddest meals I’ve paid $20 for, and I’ve eaten airport food. Ordered the Large Kabob Plate and what I got felt more like a punishment than a lunch. Supposed to come with lamb? I got chicken instead—dry enough to absorb sound. The steak was so tough I started questioning if it was meat or a repurposed yoga mat. Quinoa tabouli? It was 98% chopped parsley with what I can only assume were three stray quinoa seeds that fell in by accident. If I wanted a mouthful of herbs, I could’ve chewed my lawn. The hummus had a weird tangy flavor and enough oil to lube a car engine. There was a pile of what looked like rejected carnival onions dumped underneath everything for reasons unknown. The pita “side” was two cold, lifeless pucks—clearly store-bought and served straight from the shrink-wrap. And the olives? Trader Joe’s would be offended by the comparison. This wasn’t a meal. This was a $20 lesson in regret. Don’t do it. You deserve better. So does parsley.

Google
One of my all time favorite Mediterranean place. This place is my regular comfort and healthy food zone. I visit at least once a week. I love their pomegranate salad, kebabs and the cilantro hummus is a must try.

Google
Had dinner with my wife and food here is delicious. All fresh ingredients and lot of healthy choices. We both took pita pocket platter. Both veg pocket and chicken shawarma were great.

Google
Amazing and authentic Mediterranean food on the cheap and fast. Super nice seating area inside and outside. Love the atmosphere and food selections. They have great pita pockets and sides for each. Dank fries. They sell pre packaged pita bread along with some other cuisine items in the corner which is nice. An absolutely must for the easy dinner out that isn’t expensive at all, super great local restaurant. Staff were super friendly and nice.

Yelp
Right now, I'm watching my calories into my particular trying to eat more healthier. This is my go to place

Yelp
Here visiting relatives and we were in the mood for Mediterranean food. Ordered the steak pita and it was like eating an old shoe. Sorry but the steak was tough and flavorless. The sides and pita bread were the only reason I didn't give 1 star. Not impressed.

Yelp
Located on chapel hill road with plenty of parking available. I was surprised to see they close at 8:00 pm but it was there around 2;00. You place your order at the counter and the hard part is choosing which sides to get. They have plenty to choose from and the man helping me was patient . I had a platter that had a lamb and beef shawarma pita sandwich. My two sides were tabouli with quinoa and a kale salad. The sandwich was delicious, their pita is awesome. The tabouli salad was fresh and really good. The kale salad had apples and raisins in it and was very fresh but the dressing was way too spicy for me. They have both indoor and outdoor dining and both had no dirty tables. Drinks are self serve . I stop here every time I am in the area.

Yelp
First time trying dinner here. It took me a bit to figure out what to order and they have many options of sides. Everything looked good. I ordered a chicken kabob with orzo and veggies and a side of garbanzo beans with butternut squash. This was good. This came with a side of pita that appeared to be whole wheat. I like my pita warm so you can dip hummus or other items. One of the orders in my party took a long time to make. I enjoyed the food and the servings were generous.

Yelp
This is my go to Mediterranean spot in Cary. Highly recommend their kabobs- cannot go wrong with any of them but my favorites are the chicken and lamb. I also really love the baba ghanoush and jalapeño hummus. Regularly come here for lunch- pro tip, order ahead online!

Yelp
My wife and I arrived on a Sunday afternoon (maybe an hour after restaurant opening) the food we selected like the rice and meat were cold, seemed like for prepped the day before or much earlier in the morning the meat lacked flavor, the hummus was ok for a place that was not busy, just a handful or people. I thought we will get freshly made food but was disappointed. We MAY give this place another try but we will most likely bite the bullet and drive further to Sassool for good Mediterranean food.

Yelp
I wish I had taken photos but I was hungry and didn't think to do so. This was one of the best meals I've had out in a while. I was a little confused by the way the menu worked because I'd never been but the staff was helpful and got me situated with a yummy plate. I had grilled chicken with the cabbage and a kale salad side. So yummy that I look forward to going back. Prices were quite reasonable also.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent food & service as always!! Lamb kebab & 2 sides. Mango lassi, lebanah is always the best IMHO!! Clean & reasonably priced!! I go here often with friends & they enjoyed the cabbage side.
google avatar

Yelp
Had a great little birthday dinner here with some coworkers. Perfect spot that's casual but still a place with delicious, high quality food. This is a local favorite for a reason!

Yelp
We got sick for the second time and we only ate vegan offerings. Both times the ill feeling hit within 60 minutes of finishing the meal

Yelp
Honestly guys, it doesn't get better than Neomonde's! I'm a frequent visitor at all Neomonde's (and Sassool) locations. I'll never get tired of their amazing food...ever. If you haven't been, shame on you. Go now! My husband and I shared a chicken shawarma pita during this visit for a light afternoon snack. They make their pitas (and everything I think) fresh in house. The shawarma has a nice garlic flavor and some pickles to give it a perfect flavor. All of their menu options are fantastic, these are a few of my favorites: mjadarah, grilled salmon, vegetarian lasagna, hummus, kale salad, baba ghanouj, and fatoush salad. The quality and freshness can't be beat. I can't imagine my life without Neomonde's as an option.
google avatar

Yelp
I love Mediterranean food and have been to many Mediterranean restaurants in the area. This one doesn't come close to any of the others in taste and food quality. I won't be back.
google avatar

Daniel R.

Yelp
Pomegranate salad was tasty, hummus was good, rice and couscous were okay, and sadly the steak kabob was just not good. So, the balance seems to be 3 stars down the middle.
google avatar

Stella Y.

Yelp
For a fast food place, this was pretty decent! You order your main dish which comes with a ton of sides you can choose from. I got the pita pocket plate which came with half a pita with beef and lamb shawarma which was my meat of choice. It was dressed with some taziki sauce. The pita was warm and fluffy and the meat was moist and flavorful, especially with the sauce. For my 2 sides, I got the beet salad and which was mixed with a pomegranate balsamic vinaigrette and the tabouli which is chopped parsley, tomato, cucumber and onion tossed in olive oil and lemon juice. Each of the side dishes was extremely fresh and the acidity helped brought out the freshness of the veggies. Overall a great meal!

Yelp
Fresh Mediterranean food at prices that can't be beat! I remember having dinner here before the pandemic and hadn't been back until today I stumbled back this way on my way back home. I had a pita pocket platter with 2 sides for just 10.99! And you get a piece of baklava with it! They have several flavors available. I kept it classic with pistachio and my husband had walnut. I ate mine while waiting for our food (so good)! Overall, this is a solid casual spot with lots of options with everything from falafel and hummus to shawarma and kabobs. You'll find something for any tastes here.

Harold B.

Yelp
Tried the chicken shawarma on pita and it wasn't like any shawarma I have eaten before. The meat seemed more like grilled chicken than traditional shawarma chicken. It was very bland and lacked seasoning. I have to say the white pita bread it was on was absolutely delicious and fresh but the meal came with side of pita which was completely different, more like wheat pita and very stale, seemed old. Tabbouleh was good but hummus and tzatziki were very bland and lacked flavor. Luckily there are many other restaurants in Raleigh area with more authentic food.
google avatar

Tee C.

Yelp
Was meeting a friend visiting from out of town who was staying in Durham for a few days so I chose this location because it was the midpoint for both of us. I was so disappointed with the food. I ordered my usual which is the double chicken kabob platter with double mjahdarah. The kabobs were super dry and over cooked and the mjahdarah was bland. I thought it would the same level of quality that I get from Raleigh but it was not. Doubtful I would return here. The one plus side was that I didn't have to wait long for my food.
google avatar

Warren D.

Yelp
Overpriced in relation to the flavor. We expected more but it was on par with something above fast food slightly.
google avatar

Vini E.

Yelp
Service was quick as you order by the window and they compile the food as you pick the dishes. However quality of food could be better. I came here with high expectations and recommendations from friends. Maybe it was an off day but the fall pita pocket with butternut squash and pita was cold and dry. Their pita wasn't warm so it kept breaking... which made me think it's not fresh. tatziki and orzo salad were good but I don't recommend their pita pocket. I got my husband chicken kebab and he was disappointed. There are better Mediterranean spots, I don't think I'll be back here.

Yelp
Our go to stop for Mediterranean / middle eastern food. We ordered the neomonde plate which consisted of humus, baba Ghanoush, tabbouleh, and grape leaves. Unfortunately it did not come with pita to dip. I wish they would have told us so we could have purchased that separately. The chicken shawarma was delicious and saucy. Chicken was tender, and the sauce was delicious. I had the side salad as well. The beef and lamb shawarma was good as well but was not saucy like the chicken shawarma. Garlic paste was given on the side (try it with the spicy fries... yum!!!) We always do takeout and one day hope to enjoy it fresh in the restaurant.
google avatar

Lily H.

Yelp
I always return to this spot when I am in town. COVID hit their staffing hard, so they are only open for lunch- but I didn't feel any degradation of service or food quality. If you like heat - those spicy fries will surely hit the spot. You will never go wrong with their shawarma- I know the chicken is a hit but my favorite is the perfect balance of beef and lamb with the authentic pickles. There are so many sides to choose from - all fresh crispy and delicious with a hint of lemon I can't seem to pick a favorite. Their pitas are soft and delicious - there is a reason they have a huge bake house to ensure you can find it in almost all local grocery stores.

Yelp
Great selection of cold/hot vegan and gluten free options! Eat dessert first: GF red velvet cake. Strip mall location with counter ordering and self serve beverages/Utensils. Items at the counter are labeled and may be sampled if you can't decide among the various colors/textures. Satisfying experience.

Yelp
Simply the best! Being a former New Yorker, finding good bread is a challenge (especially anything poppyseed). Love their Kaiser rolls, but everything was delicious. After a few hiccups, we got it right. Customer Service and product is a 10. Looking forward to many more orders.
google avatar

Jamie M.

Yelp
Very very slow, but tasty food. They were out of quite a few things between 5-6 that I wish they would have had. I tried the Beef Lamb Shawrma and my boyfriend had the Chicken Schwarma (which I tried). The meat was so tender and juicy for both. Love the hummus, especially the bread with it. The cilantro jalapeño hummus is a must. Butternut Chickpea Salad was delightful, too, as well as the pistachio baklavas. They have indoor seating as well as a covered patio.

Anita S.

Yelp
I got the kebab platter. While the kebabs were good, the sides were a disappointment. The grape leaves were hard, the rice inside had completely dried. The other side was a special with chickpeas and labneh and had zero flavor. My friend got the special shrimp and corn dish which she liked, but only had 2/3 shrimps for the whole platter.
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
The drop in quality is stunning. The chicken was so dry it literally flaked apart. My baklava was dense and hard. The rice/lentil side was dry and over cooked. Extra 1$ if you want a white pita half. No idea what's happening at this location but if the rest are like this I won't be back
google avatar

Samantha W.

Yelp
This is my second time coming here. I don't remember the first time very well but this time my partner & I got pita pockets, one with chicken and one with lamb/beef shawarma. We both got rice as a side and I got beet & orange salad and he got grape leaves. The pita pockets were good but the sides were just ok. Nothing crazy, just fine and maybe a bit bland. Overall the food was fine but it was about $30 for two pita sandwiches that came with 2 sides and no drink. It seems a bit pricey for what it is, that's all. I have heard the veg lasagna is good so if I come back I may give that a try.
google avatar

Yelp
We came here for lunch one afternoon because they had a great Yelp following. We ordered 2 family platters. Family platters comes with protein (lamb were extra $2 per piece of meat), rice, salad, 2 small sides, 4 pita bread and baklava. Pros: * lots of choices * Mjadarah - rice dish with lentils (Yumm). It was a crowd favorite * lamb koftas with caramelized onions were good * sweet and attentive staff Cons: * aside from Mjadarah and lamb kofta, food was ok. * sun-dried tomato hummus and cilantro jalapeño hummus, flavors were subdued. I really didn't know what i was trying. * chicken kabobs were overcooked. * pita bread was cold and hard, wish they were warm. Overall, it was good but could be a lot better.

Yelp
I have been to the Raleigh location 4 times and loved it everyone time. I moved to Cary so I went to this location out of convenience. I expected it to have the same quality as the Raleigh location. I experience a long wait time which did not make sense. The restaurant was not busy at all. My partner and I just ordered 2 things: veg pita and 2 kabob platter. We were very disappointed they did not include a fresh pita or baklava with the kabob platter. This was always included at the Raleigh location. Also, the kabob platter was at least a $1 more and the meat was DRY and not very enjoyable to eat. We ordered chicken and steak. The beet salad was NOT the same recipe uses a three Raleigh location. It was bland, and really not good tasting at all. I could make the same thing at home in 2 minutes using precooked packaged beets from Costco and slicing up an orange. (The beet salad at the Raleigh location is so good, I would be willing to pay for the recipe.) TLDR: Long wait, subpar quality food, more expensive than the better location. I will NEVER go back to this location. I will take extra time to drive to the Raleigh location next time. I will also leave that location a 5-star review because they deserve it.

Jl S.

Yelp
Very good menu selections, was a little overwhelming as a first time visitor to narrow down what to get. The food was very fresh and service good. Nice outdoor seating area too.
google avatar

Lexi B.

Yelp
Great Mediterranean option in the area. I love how many sides they have to offer. Check them out!
google avatar

Lacy D.

Yelp
Neomonde is pretty good. I go about once a week since it's pretty close to my work and I can always get in and out pretty quickly. I like the selection of different salads so I normally get a 3 or 4 sampler platter. The kale salad, hummus, maklouba, lentils, and sweet potatoes are some of my favorites. They also have a $10 lunch special that includes a pita with two sides. It's a pretty good deal! I like the grilled chicken and the chicken shawarma. It's a fairly large place, too, so there's always room to grab a table and sit. Parking can be sticky if you go around 11:30-12:30, but you can usually find a space.
google avatar

Brittany B.

Yelp
I have heard great things about Neomonde from several people so I decided to check it out with my Dad, who was in town. I really love Mediterranean food so I was excited and looking forward to trying this place. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. Don't get me wrong! It WAS good. But it wasn't anything super special or anything to write home about. Of the various Mediterranean restaurants I have tried in the triangle area this was the least impressive. I ordered the chicken kabob platter with tabouli and chickpea black bean salad. I really enjoyed the chickpea black bean salad. The chicken kabob was alright. A few pieces were a little chewy and slightly burnt. My dad ordered the lamb and steak kabob platter with Kibbie and chicken salad. I didn't try anything of his but he said it was good. We also ordered Kifte (sp) for dessert which good but I probably wouldn't get it again. Staff and service, however, were excellent and the place was clean, albeit a bit warm inside.
google avatar

Yelp
Located near the airport. Great place for lunch after picking up or dropping off people at RDU. All the same flavors as the other location. Went for lunch on a Monday around 1:00. No line, everything was made in front of us and all the food was still hot. Friendly staff, clean restaurant, and fast fresh food. If you like Lebanese food, you must give this place a try.
google avatar

Scott J.

Yelp
When you walk into this place, the food smells amazing! If you're looking to eat vegetarian or vegan, this is a great place to do it. Everything is so fresh!
google avatar

Onvara A.

Yelp
I came here for lunch with some coworkers. There were many options to choose from in the menu and I was tempted to get a Pita Pocket Platter since it comes with a piece of baklava, but in the end I went with the Lasagna Platter (one piece of grilled veggie lasagna with a choice of two sides). I was overwhelmed by the amount of sides on display and didn't end up liking the ones I chose (kale salad and orzo salad) as much as I'd hoped. The lasagna was amazing though! Definitely plan on coming back to try their other dishes just because of the lasagna.
google avatar

Janki P.

Yelp
Update: I returned when my parents were visiting and our experience was less than pleasant. The staff was rude and impatient as we were deciding what to order. There was no one behind us so I was taking my time explaining to my parents what all the options were and they girls working were trying to rush us into ordering and getting annoyed that it was taking so long. The food also wasn't as flavorful this time around and because of the bad customer service, I will not be returning. The baklava is still good so I just might have to stop by for that.
google avatar

Donna H.

Yelp
Always a favorite because their food is so fresh. Had dinner there - not many dining I but lots of take out. The sides are the best! Alway love the chicken kabobs. There offer meals to go based on the number of people in your party. A good option to consider when you have visitors in your home.
google avatar

Michelle D.

Yelp
Phenomenal food and service! Great Chicken Kabobs and Tabbouleh! Will be coming back!
google avatar

Stephanie J.

Yelp
Fresh, healthy Mediterranean food! Neomonde never disappoints with their diverse selection of entrees and sides. I personally like the lunch box special which includes your choice of wrap or half sandwich, two sides and a piece of baklava for $9.99. A few of my favorite menu items include the chicken kabob pita, chicken shawarma pita, pomegranate salad, mjadarah and cabbage delight. Tip, go early or else prepare to wait!
google avatar

Kong L.

Yelp
Everyone has been telling me to go here. I decided to stop in for lunch and it was amazing! I arrived around 11:30 p.m. to beat the rush; it's super busy around 12:00 p.m. It was my first time so I decided to try to 4-item plate. I would recommend this option for first-timers. You can choose from the cold and hot bar. There are only 2 items on the hot bar that you have to pay extra for if you decide to get it. The gentleman who took my order helped recommend some items which was really helpful. The food was amazing! All four dishes was very flavorful and my kinda food! I can't wait to return and try other items on the menu. Also, I loved the ambience of the space and sunlight! Great place to grab lunch and work away.
google avatar

Matt G.

Yelp
They no longer seem to sell haloumi here since over a month back. That's no good at all. Still four stars in my book, but only because of the vegetarian dishes. The meat is very mediocre, not much seasoning, if any at all. The lamb is tough and dry. Would be nice if they had ground lamb skewers. Chicken skewer is Ok when cooked right, but the chicken shawarma is so dry and the sauce they add has no sha-pow to it. Too much tahini flavor in the sauce. Do come for the veg platters, here is the good stuff: jalapeno/cilantro hummus, tzatziki, lasagna with no pasta (I know, sounds awful, but is really good), cabbage salad, green beans in sauce. Some dishes are quite tangy from the lemon. As for the desserts, I quite like the pineapple and coconut (pina colada?!) cake. They have a bakery on site, considering that I'm surprised that the pita tastes store bought and dry. Nothing is particularly expensive here and it's good for a quick fix meal.
google avatar

Melanie R.

Yelp
Great food. If you enjoy Mediterranean cuisine or if you are looking to try the cuisine for the first time, then, this is a solid restaurant.
google avatar

Mary Z.

Yelp
The restaurant is fresh and bright with lots of seating, and there's a small grocery section in the far corner. The staff was friendly and patient as we made our selections--chicken kabob platter and pita pocket platter. My chicken kabob was very well seasoned and well cooked, and the accompanying orzo salad and hummus were tasty. My friend liked his pita pocket with a side of roasted potato salad and cilantro hummus. They don't put pita on your plate for the hummus. Instead, the pita is in bags on the counter near the fountain drink machine. Remember this in case no one tells you (as with us). Neomonde is a great spot for lunch or a casual dinner.
google avatar

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
Come here all the time to eat and it is always good. It is very consistent, so you know the product your getting. Everything is delicious. I will always recommend this place to anyone looking for delicious healthy food.
google avatar

Mitch R.

Yelp
Awesome Mediterranean restaurant located right here in Cary near the airport. It's a must if you're in this area and looking for a bite to eat with some authentic Middle Eastern food. . The smells are incredible in the food has incredible flavor.
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
I always love having lunch of dinner here, or just grabbing some hummus and pita. From the shawarmas, to the kabobs and baklava, everything is delicious. Definitely my favorite Mediterranean restaurant in the Triangle. The cafe is nice and there's a patio for dining outside, but lately we've used convenient mobile ordering and curbside pickup.
google avatar

Cindy G.

Yelp
Great spot for fresh and authentic Middle Eastern fare. For $10, my husband and I split a 4-sides sampler. The garbanzo salad was fresh with light dressing. The roasted veggies were flavorful with good texture. There is a bakery there and a small grocery section. Gluten free, Vegan options available. Very busy for lunch.
google avatar

Alexa L.

Yelp
Great option for Mediterranean, but the recent opening of other options nearby make Neomonde less of a go-to must for me. Lots of options here, but this can be very intimidating to the inexperienced customer. Sandwiches are good here, but they're quite pricey. However, I will say that the quality is very good, and the pita is freshly made.
