This Hampden brewery turns out a juicy house burger stacked with cheeses, smoked onions, pickles, and pub sauce—alongside creative sauces and excellent fries. Loved by locals for inventive pub food with serious flavor.

Google
Vegan burger and nacho fries, hits every time. So many options and rotating new choices. Everyone is nice, even the chefs coming out from the back! Fun spot for activities and watching games. Vegan NACHO CEESE. Ciders and drinks for my fellow GF people. Sometimes super busy.

Google
Absolutely incredible food. Unbelievable how good it is. The beer is fantastic, but I've never seen a brewery with better food. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars.

Christopher Sneeringer

Google
This is one of our favorite breweries in the area. The boneless wings and other food are delicious. The beer, especially Space Jellyfish, are top notch. We’ve quit drinking the last year and even their NA options are decent. The menu constantly changes too so it’s always fun to go and try new stuff. I’d say this is the best brewery in the area with the quality food and beer selection.

Google
the amazing amount of vegan options caught our eye first! and as much as we would love to eat in our doggy was with us. so we got carry out, and it was all wonderfully prepared and packed. traveled soooo well was still nice and hot when we got home! amazing food amazing sauces

Google
It should not even have the word cheesesteak in its name. It's more like a Korean sandwich that happens to have steak on it. It was good but a little on the salty side. The fries were great. I went on a Sunday afternoon, and the place was packed. I did manage to get one ot the last tables in the back corner! I was also surprised that the Coca-Cola was $4 per can.

We've been going to Nepenthe for years after climbing at the Movement gym nearby, and it's my favorite brewery by a large margin. They actually have amazing food which is rare for a brewery in my experience (if they even have it), and if you love IPAs you will love this place. My (now) wife and I just hosted our welcome get-together here before our wedding and it ended up being perfect. The space is actually amazing for mingling and you can reserve the entire top area plus high tops if you'd like for a really reasonable price. We'll definitely be going here for years to come!

Google
The beer is solid and the food is good (yes, a little on the pricey side), but where Nepenthe truly shines is the staff. Every server I’ve met has been friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly accommodating. They’re the reason I find myself coming back at least once a week — the people here make every visit worth it.

Google
Very cool place, huge variety of beer, cider, wine and cocktails. The food was awesome, loved the wings and the best fries ever. The server Joey was super attentive, gave excellent suggestions on food and drinks. BUT, the highlight of the evening was Joey's slam poetry. We were blown away by this wordsmith named Joey. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
I keep coming back here again and again. Some of my favorite food in the city. They make such craveable stuff. That Korean Cheesesteak? After I ran the Balti-Moron, that was THE thing I wanted to eat, alongside their delicious fries. You really can't go wrong with the food here. AND THEN there's the beers, which are varied and interesting, not to mention the cool special variants they bust out for events. It's a little heavy on IPAs usually, but there are enough other options (plus a full bar for cocktails and mocktails) that I think anyone would be happy here. Finally, the atmosphere is great. The staff are all amazing and friendly, huge shoutout to the team there for being the cherry on top of the cake for this place. Highly recommended.

Yelp
I had dinner this evening at Nepenthe Brewing in the Hampden neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland. I won't make that mistake again. First of all today is my birthday so I wanted to do something nice. Second it is Baltimore Restaurant Week so I decided to try one of the participating restaurants. When I ordered they told me that it would be about 30 minutes for the food to come out. My partner got his appetizer and sandwich within 45 minutes of ordering. I got my appetizer about one hour after I ordered and I got my sandwich ONE HOUR AND 45 MINUTES AFTER I ORDERED. My partner's food was good, I tried it while I was waiting forever to get my own food. My food was awful. The combination of flavors sounded a bit adventurous on the menu but when I tasted the food it was literally awful. The loaded Mac and Cheese with barbecue sauce and jalapeno peppers was just disgusting. The Chimichurri cheesesteak again was an awful combination of flavors. I asked for a box for my sandwich by the time that I got it. Then dessert, how could they mess that up? My partner got the bread pudding and it was burned on the bottom, they didn't even bother to cut off the burnt part, they served it to him burned part and all. My dessert was sickeningly sweet, I got the ice cream sandwich and the combination of ice cream flavor and cookie just did not work together. Overall I would describe the food at Nepenthe with one word - YUCK. We did get one beer and the beer itself was fine. The food was not fine at all. The level of service was comically bad. They do have clean restrooms. Street parking. Never coming back here again ever. They should ban them from Baltimore Restaurant Week.

Yelp
The food is pretty good for a brewery The fries with their pub sauce were good! They have a variety of sauces to choose from Their wings were also good with various flavors

Yelp
The beer is decent (especially if you like hazy IPAs.) I would avoid the food. I had a chicken sandwich with was OK, comparable to McDonald's in quality, but way overpriced at $18. Ekiben is nearby -- go there for a take-out Spicy Bird instead. The french fries were soggy and awful -- a zero.

Yelp
Came by based on a review in Yelp! Thanks Yelp elite! Parking is an issue, be aware, although if you can find parking, the bar and restaurant is worth it. Great selection of beer and food. We ordered the Beer battered broccoli and the Baltimore Blues burger. The broccoli was battered heavily yet still crunchy enough in the center. The burger was done, and servers never asked about temperature. Beer selection is absolutely fantastic. That's the real reason to come along with the bartenders and servers!

Yelp
Really nice place and vibe! Came on a Friday evening so it was quite busy but was able to find a seat quickly. Tried a couple of their dark beers and really enjoyed the stout! We also got food, including the beer battered mushrooms and the tofu sandwich with fries. I really liked both! The tofu sandwich was really delicious and hearty - very well seasoned! The fries were awesome and they have a variety of dipping sauces as well!

Yelp
I stopped by Nepenthe to celebrate a birthday on a Saturday evening. We had a group of 6 and were able to find a table to seat us. The brewery had a lively hum to it; there were lots of Orioles fans and college basketball fans there to watch the games and enjoy some drinks. I was happy to see that there were a few TV's scattered across the bar and a large projector on one wall. Overall, the atmosphere is really lively and friendly. The beer selection is pretty vast; I'm not a huge beer guy buy I was able to find a few selections that I liked. Of course, I started with a flight to get a taste of a few different varieties ($12-14ish bucks for four 3 oz pours). I then ordered quite a few of the 10oz pours for $5-7 bucks each. Then they have the full pint size for an additional few bucks. I like that they had these sizing options, allowed me to try a few different beers without feeling too full. Their IPAs were really nice - would definitely get them again. They also serve a limited selection of cocktails and mocktails, just in case beer isn't your thing. This place is really popular for their food. Our table tried a few different burgers, sandwiches, and bites. Overall, everyone loved their orders particularly the chicken sandwich options. Next time, I want to try the wings - they looked pretty great coming out of the back to other tables. The waitstaff were so friendly and helpful. As usual, I needed some help picking out beers to try; each person I talked to was so helpful and patient while helping me make a selection. The line to order more food or drinks moved quickly. There were plenty of staff to buss tables and keep the space clean. The whole operation was just really smooth. We stayed until closing time (10p on a Saturday) - everyone agreed that this was a great night out. I'd happily return back to enjoy more of their delicious fare and that fun filled environment!

Yelp
Fantastic beer and even better food! We came in on a Sunday afternoon for a few tasters of beer and some lunch. The place was pretty chill and we picked a high top long table to sit at. We got two rounds of flights and deep fried broccoli, cheesesteak and the fried tofu sandwich. Our food was delivered quickly and was hot, tasty and with ample portions. Love the Korean flair to dishes too. Sandwiches also come with House made potato chips which were great. We tried eight different beers, with help with bartenders guiding us on some of our choices. Some of the beers stood out more than others and we had to go taking a six pack home with us. Overall, this is a great place to spend an afternoon!

Yelp
Been here a few times, the food menu is constantly changing I always find new yummy things to try. Same with the beer, the selection is pretty IPA heavy which isn't my jam but when they have a lager or a sour I usually grab that. Service is great, the bar tenders are super friendly, and trivia night is a lot of fun!

Yelp
The Baltimore hot chicken sandwich delivers a delicious flavor punch. The heat level is well balanced and not just hot for the sake of being hot. It has flavor! The slaw balances out the heat of the chicken and uses just the right amount of Old Bay to give an additional complimentary layer of flavor. It is served on a wonderful roll. You can also get fries. They are fat, perfectly cooked, and well seasoned, and they have. A great selection of dipping sauces. All of this went great with their Werewolf Deathgrip, an American Kolsch.
google avatar

Dakota M.

Yelp
I organized our staff social event here and it was the perfect space. You can make a reservation up to 25 people which was a plus. I ordered the House Burger with Beyond Patties and I just have to say that this is where I'll be getting my burgers when I have a craving from now on. It was so juicy. You know that kind of juicy when it runs down your hand to your arm. The fries were not my fave but the different sauces made up for it to be honest. The service was good and the vibes are chill.

Yelp
Nepenthe really is an excellent brewery. Great beer, great atmosphere, and good food too. Great beer variety. I tried their gingerbread stout and spiked eggnog (this was the only cocktail they had when I visited). The stout was absolutely phenomenal. The perfect wintery drink. The spiked eggnog was really good as well! We were able to get a tour of the brewery too while we were here! Pretty cool.

Yelp
Good food, cool people, and plenty of beer for every taste! We came here during Restaurant Week and picked out a few things to eat. Overall, it was tasty but I felt like a few dishes - specifically the mac and cheese - lacked flavor. It definitely didn't ruin our meal, though, the sandwiches were both great! There are a ton of different beers and the four we tried were delicious.

Yelp
Amazing place! Always has seating, great and extensive beer list! Always friendly and water freely accessible at all times!

Yelp
Love this place. Love the drinks. Love the vibe. Love the events. Everyone is always friendly and helpful. Food is spot on and tasty. Parking is street parking but can usually find a spot without to much driving around. Place is large and accommodating to groups of people.

Yelp
Recently returned to Nepenthe after craving those famous french fries. I also perked up when I read about their weekly special which was a pumpkin curry rice noodle dish. Unfortunately, when I arrived, they were all out so I ordered a sandwich instead. They have gluten free rolls that you can sub out on any sandwich. I decided to go with the tofu sandwich after asking the bartender if the sandwich would be completely gluten free so long as I subbed the bread out. He said yes but it turns out, the tofu slab was marinated in soy sauce. Bummer. I will say that a kind person from the kitchen ran out to notify me of this error pretty quickly and asked if I wanted to change my selection. Gluten intolerance is a new thing for me and, having been a little too frustrated to try to find something else on the menu, I said it was fine. In retrospect, that probably wasn't the best decision but at least they tried to warn me, lol. I will say, the GF roll was pretty yummy and I will return for that. I still love Nepenthe's fries (they're just as yummy as I remember) and their delish dipping sauces. I also love the fact that I can order a solid cocktail at a brewery too.

Yelp
Great place to come and watch a game! I really liked the seating style. Order and seat yourself. Lots of space, no wait on a Friday night. The food comes out super fresh and hot. I loved the variety of fry sauces to choose from. I ordered the fish sandwich with fries. Very good, could use a little extra seasoning. Love the handcut fries. My fiance wasn't a fan of the general tso wings. Taste more like soy sauce than general tso. Hibiscus margarita was yummy. Prices are also quite high! Something to keep in mind.

Yelp
Visited for their 4th anniversary and it was a great time! There was a variety of draft beer options and the food came out so fresh, hot, and was AMAZING! Pretty open and spacious space but it was packed (rightfully so)! Service is mostly at the bar but there are a few servers walking around as well. Would definitely visit again!

Yelp
Came here for a date. As many times as I've passed this place it wasn't what I expected. The atmosphere is def beer brewery , wish the heat was on tho but I guess I should drink more ??? Can't be mad at the line inside because it moves rather quickly. They have a long list of beers on tap and honestly I'm not that much of a fan of them but I gave it a go. My date choose 4 for me to try along with me getting a 'how did it burn' which was a Nicolas cage movie ( the movies a 5/10, watched it that night) I got a tester of a Auspex .. was only interested bc it said ' nut brown ale' lol but it was GOOD The flights were polydribble #7 and #8 I thoroughly enjoyed those 2 And then space jelly fish and beepaweeps .. BITTER AF.. I enjoyed one of those two a little more but can't recall. Not a place to get food , tried , wasn't the best.

Yelp
First time here. The place is very nice. The bar servers are very pleasant. The food is good, but a little pricey for the portion. They offer a wide variety of beers. They also have some mixed drinks, but limited. I will return.

Arianne C.

Yelp
The beer is amazing! The beer battered broccoli is to die for. The service is outstanding
google avatar

Shawna M.

Yelp
The food is fantastic. It's original pub food meets innovative ways to look at said food. The vibe is very industrial and hip, but located in a very urban area. I had the sour beer (maybe more than one) and it was yummy enough to have several. The line moves super fast and there is inside and outside seating. I loved our visit here and it's a great change of pace for us.

Yelp
I have dined and drank in Nepenthe and also picked up during this here pandemic. Most recently I picked up a fried chicken sandwich, the tofu banh mi, and some beers as a part of my Baltimore City Fried Chicken Championship. I really enjoy the beers at Nepenthe, they are consistent while at times whimsical. The physical space is great (when not in the midst of a global pandemic) to meet up with a large group of friends. I ordered their utterly gigantic fried chicken sandwich and thought it was nicely crunchy. I hate bread and butter pickles, so if you're like me and don't like sweet pickles, opt to have them removed. I'd also suggest extra aioli as it is a lot bread. The tofu banh mi had a nice sauce but there could have been more. Generally a fine vegetarian option.
google avatar

Saumya M.

Yelp
Love this spot off the Avenue in Hampden. The food menu is delicious, way better than the typical items you see at most breweries -- in fact, I'd go as far as to say this is a restaurant and not a brewery! Get the chicken sandwich, you won't regret it.
google avatar

Yelp
Definitely worth checking out! I love me a double IPA any day and if I can get a flight of them even better!! Covid safety; this place felt very safe they offered hand sanitizer and have a plexi glass wall between you and the person taking your order. They have 4 bathrooms in case you need to go in and wash yours hands. They have outdoor seating on the sidewalk as well as indoor seating. The beer selection was great, we tried almost all of them and thought they were all very good, also they have a true sour beer that's actually sour! Make sure you try that too! If you find one you really like you can even take a growler home. They also offer burgers, wings, fries, snacks, and other delicious bar foods.
google avatar

Rebecca C.

Yelp
Pretty awesome vibe! Great selection of beers on taps and cocktails. Grabbed a bite from the menu, Beyond Burger- delicious. Fried were HUGE, literally lol. I'll be back this summer for sure!

Ashley T.

Yelp
Often packed and loud, but good food and really good, diverse beer options. Friendly staff as well.

Yelp
Great beer! Great service!! A little pricy for 8 wing pieces but very good, crispy and hot!! Will come back.
google avatar

Yelp
Great brewery in Hampden! Love that they have food on site and it was actually really tasty! The fries with the dipping sauce flight was great to munch on while partaking in a flight. The brews I tried were great (jellyfish hatchling was bomb) and I like the artwork details in the brewery and on their cans.

Judylynn S.

Yelp
Thought of driving up there from AA County but after viewing website &there are NO PRICES shown on the menu I decided it was worth the 1 hour drive just to try it out!

Yelp
I've gotten a lot of beer at Nepenthe, but this is my first experience getting their food! For quarantine, we pulled up right out front and our order was ready to go in about 20 min. My boyfriend and I got a small fry, a pork belly banh mi, and a Korean cheesesteak. The small fry was actually HUGE, I was shocked, see photo. The fries are thick cut, but well fried. They were surprisingly crispy for takeout, and perfectly salty. We got the hot honey mustard and the porcini aioli to dip. The hot honey mustard was delicious, we fought over it! It is a lot of honey, a bit of mustard, and a tad spicy. The porcini aioli has a nice mushroomy flavor, but was pretty thick and was only ok. My boyfriend got the pork banh mi. He said it was ok, it had potential but was overcooked. The pork was kind of dry, and there could've been more sauce. He ate it all, but wouldn't get it again. The star of the meal for sure was the Korean cheesesteak! Get this sandwich! Plenty of sweet and savory beef, perfectly cooked. Topped with cheese, kimchi, and veggies, it was excellent and I would get it again. Overall, the meal was pretty good, just a small miss with the banh mi. We would still recommend it and will definitely be returning!

Craig M.

Yelp
Amazing food that came out very quickly (plates and glasses sat on the table for hours) and a very decorated selection of beers but with only 2 bartenders the line wrapped around the bar and took 30+min to get drinks so after a few drinks we just left. Would've been 5 stars but they were extremely understaffed.

justin w.

Yelp
Nepenthe is a delight. John and the other bartenders are a delight and always treat my daughter so well. We try to go here as a family once every two weeks or so. Lovely food for everyone
google avatar

Kelly D.

Yelp
Nepenthe is always a great option! Tons of great food options, and as a vegetarian I always feel they go above and beyond in offering substitutions. The impossible burger is great, as are their fries and consistently good specials! The Tempura Broccoli was on special a week or so ago and it was delicious. The drinks are also fantastic! Obviously there are great beer and sour options, but their cocktails are also great! Last time I went I got the hibiscus margarita which was heavenly. If you want a casual, cool, crowd pleaser I can't think of a better spot in the area.
google avatar

Rachel C.

Yelp
It's quarantimes, so we ordered to go and I can't speak to the interior or atmosphere, but I think I love Nepenthe! Every single beer we have tried to date has been outrageously good. Curbside pickup was fast and I felt safe with other patrons wearing masks and keeping a good distance. During these strange times, good beer is a bright spot. We tried the bahn mi and a burger and they were both okay. I probably wouldn't go here just for the food, but like I can't think of a single brewery where I would? That's not why you go to a brewery!
google avatar

Steve R.

Yelp
Boisterous atmosphere, great food. Ordering a burger tonight online and will walk up the street soon. Looking forward to it. Postscript: Can't eat here these days but double patty burger with the works was sooo good with ruffle half dollar pickles and sauce. Gosh, yum!
google avatar

Jazmine C.

Yelp
Checked out Nepenthe a couple weeks ago since a friend mentioned it was fairly new and they hadn't tried it yet. It was a weeknight so not too busy and everything is spaced out well. I ordered the werewolf deathgrip (American kolsch) and it was pretty good. I also ordered the burger and it was really enjoyed it.. The only reason I'm taking off a star is for the price. The burger is $15 & the small fries are $6, which is kind of a lot for how much you get. My real pet peeve is giving one ramekin of sauce and charging extra for any additional sauce. People love sauce, just give them enough for their fries! Other than that small issue, I'd definitely come back.
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
Hands down the best sour beer I've ever had. Rhythmic Gymnastics (sour IPA) was my absolute favorite. I also tried Party Phase (pineapple, passionfruit & guava kettle sour), What Did you do, Ray? (Raspberry fluff milkshake IPA) and Polydribbles (strawberry hibiscus kettle sour). ALL SO GOOD. If you love sours like me... Run here ASAP. Not overly sour where it completely wipes out your palate but just right. I only came for beer but will be back to try out the food. Everything looked and sounded so good. Very nice atmosphere. Great for large groups or a trip with your honey like I did Cant wait for my next trip back. Street parking only for this spot but totally worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
Nepenthe quickly became one of my favorite local breweries in Hampden. Their beer list focuses mostly on IPA's, however it is extensive and is constantly evolving to feature new and unconventional concoctions. They also have a number of delicious cocktails and a few cider and wine options that I've been able to try (& enjoyed all!) Their food menu takes sort of a traditional bar food approach, reimagined with a lot Asian inspired flare (options like a Korean cheesesteak, banh mi, ramen, etc.) They've also got a good amount of exclusively vegetarian/vegan menu items, as well as non-meat substitutes for their typical meat-containing items. I got the charred Brussels (sautéed Brussels, watermelon radish, yuzu, tamari, sesame gochujang) and my roommate got the grilled flatbread (mozz, manchego, parm, oyster mushrooms, béchamel, & a truffle oil drizzle). The flatbread was def our favorite!

Yelp
I just moved to Baltimore and Hampden, and I've visited Nepenthe twice in my first few weeks here. The brewery itself is really nice! There are a few tables outside and a lot of table inside. You order beer and food at the bar (no table service, but the service at the bar is great and the line - when there is one - moves fast!). They serve up three sizes of each of their beers - 4 oz, 8 oz, and 16 oz (as well as growlers). They brew A LOT of beers, so I've stuck to 4 oz pours each of the two times I've visited so I could try more of their beers. I can't remember all the ones I've tried, but I've definitely tried Glamour (dry-hopped pilsner), Werewolf Deathgrip (American kolsch), and Dubbabeebweepa (Double IPA). I really like the beers I've tried, and I really appreciate that their beers cover a lot of types (sours, ales, IPAs, and more traditional German beers)! Nepenthe also has food that's pretty good - and big menu of food. I've tried the tuna club sandwich and their fries, but they offer a lot of sandwiches and burgers as well as shared plates/appetizers and a steak salad that I'm definitely trying next time! All things considered, it's a pretty great brewery - especially if you live in the neighborhood and can walk (because then you don't have to think about parking and you can drink more!). I'm sure I'll be back many more times!
google avatar

Annie L.

Yelp
Great beer, awesome tap room, but I think I'll pass on further vegetarian cuisine. Understandably hard to compete with ample vegetarian options elsewhere in the neighborhood, but the Tofu Banh Mi and Charred Broccoli just really missed the mark for me. The Cunningham's crusty bread was the highlight of the sandwich--chewy, flavorful with a nice golden crusty exterior. The tofu was over-cooked and over-salted, and the lackluster volume of pickled veggies and pate made for a bite that was largely bread and tough, dry tofu. The chili-lime mayo helped bring a little more sauce and flavor but not enough to save the dish. The Charred Broccoli was far from charred and arrived more wilted and steamed. The sauce was heavy handed and again, over-salted, leaving the wilted broccoli weighed down without any substantial grilled crunch. The over $24 price point for both dishes was definitely too high. Think I'll stick to the beer from here on out!
google avatar

Yelp
Staff was friendly and the beer was good, but the food stole the show! The Korean Cheesesteak might be one of the best things I've ever eaten. It's a must get!
google avatar

Yelp
Really cool spot with a nice variety of beers. They have really good food and friendly staff- highly recommend!

Yelp
My favorite brewery spot in Hampden! The fries with the old bay aioli are addictive and love their sour beers! Highly recommend.
google avatar

Ria J.

Yelp
Loved the vibes here! Service was great and was pleasantly surprised with how filling and delicious my flatbread was. Polydribbles #10 is the way to go if you are into fruity beers with no strong beer taste. Complimented the food really well.
google avatar

Matthew S.

Yelp
Fun spot with a beer for every taste as well as a full bar for the non-beer drinkers. If you can't decide what you're in the mood for beer-wise, order a flight - try four 4oz pours and savor in all the flavor. Kitchen pumps out amazing food and they're quick about it so there's never too long of a wait. French fries are amazing and there more than enough to share. Do yourself a favor and pay the $3 extra for the sauce flight - all their sauces are amazing and going from one to the next is an experience in flavortown! Staff here is also all friendly and knowledgeable, answering questions about the beers the Brew and offering up suggestions back on preferences.

Yelp
I'm going to give it four stars until I try a dish. It's Tavern Style ordering...review the menu at the table & order at the bar. The beers all have unique names and some pretty great colors. The bar/ restaurant is very open. I really like the space. Also, the Brew Shop is downstairs past the brew equipment.

Yelp
I had a very great experience at this location. I was looking for sour beers and bar food with a hint of foodie touch and this was the place for it. We had the Korean cheesesteak, bbq wings , and disco fries as you see in the pictures. The Korean cheesesteak had plenty of meat and kimchi and was topped with fried onions. The fries were awesome and smothered with beer cheese. The wings I would say were average but not bad. The sour beers were delicious and they seemed to have a great variety. I would recommend this place.

Yelp
Great place to grab some solid beers and great food. My friend and I easily found some seats and were able to place our food and beer orders quite quickly. Overall atmosphere is typical Charm City bar in terms of noise and crowd, but still feels super welcoming.
