Neta - Review - Greenwich Village - New York - The Infatuation

"Have you ever been to Masa? Neither have we. None of us here at The Infatuation are currently in a position to drop a minimum of $450 a head for dinner before booze, tax, and tip. And the CEO of Goldman Sachs won’t return our phone calls, so it looks like our plan to have him buy us dinner there and discuss "investing in the website" is on hold. I guess we read all those Jim Cramer books for nothing. Luckily, Neta is run by two chefs who learned their stuff from Masa himself, so now you can get a Masa-lite experience with a slightly more manageable check at the end. It will only cost you an arm instead of an arm and both legs. Sorry, I’ll stop making jokes that my Dad would like. While Neta is certainly less expensive than Masa, it unfortunately isn’t your best option if you want to spend good money and get fantastic sushi. We've had much better meals at 15 East and Sushi of Gari, and were hoping this place was gonna bring it harder for the cash it cost us. For example, on my recent visit, my party sprang for the larger omakase – $135 per person, also known as “a sh*tload of money” – and we weren't exactly $135 worth of impressed. From what we could tell, it wasn't much different than the cheaper ($95) option. Our waitress told us that the more expensive omakase featured “three more savory courses and additional pieces of sushi.” We were expecting a larger variety of sushi. Instead, we got the same sushi they serve everyone, but got two pieces of each roll instead of one. Maybe we should have asked for clarification, but that wasn’t what we were hoping for when we handed over a suitcase full of bills. Ultimately, Neta would be a much better experience if you go and pick a few pieces of fish and the small plates that they do best. There are some incredible things to eat here, but there are also some duds on the menu. It's also probably a much better experience if you have endless money to spend. Then again, so is everything. Food Rundown Dungeness Crab Little pieces of crab with cucumber and a delicious vinaigrette. Good but gone too quickly, and kind of skimpy on the crab. Grilled Scallop This grilled scallop is served in the shell with beautiful little bits of uni. My favorite non-sushi, non-ice cream dish of the night. The scallop was perfectly cooked and the uni was delicious. Toro and Caviar Also known as “the breakfast of Russian billionaires.” One of the draws of the longer omakase is that it includes this dish, which costs $48 if you order it a la carte. It’s pretty good...but of course it is. It’s fcking toro and caviar. Uni Porridge A risotto-esque dish that uses Neta’s delicious sea urchin as the base. It's an excellent two bites if you like uni. Or one bite if you like uni and have a big mouth. Szechuan Spiced Salmon This is salmon with spicy mayo on a bed of crispy rice topped with bonito (dried fish) flakes. It’s basically a fancy-ass spicy salmon roll, and it’s nothing to write home about. Seriously, it’s not, I left it out of the weekly letter I write to my Mom. Tempura If you can’t eat vegetables unless they’re fried, you’ll enjoy the tempura here. Everything is perfectly crispy and as light as tempura can be. In addition to the veggies they feature Fugu, which is a poisonous pufferfish that can kill you if it’s not prepared correctly. This probably won’t kill you, unless you choke on the bone that no one warns you about. I almost did. Nigiri The nigiri they served us were very good. The rice was perfectly cooked, and the fish was great. I just wish there was more of it in the big boy omakase. They didn’t even serve us a piece of uni. Toro Scallion Roll The toro in this roll was way too cold. I know that fatty tuna is supposed to melt in your mouth, but it’s supposed to melt because it’s fatty and delicious, not because it’s frozen solid. This was so cold that it didn’t taste like anything. Unagi Roll The seaweed that Neta wraps its rolls in is deliciously crunchy, but I wish it had been served as nigiri. I didn’t raid my future kid’s community college fund to eat budget looking sushi rolls featuring avocado. I was just waiting for something to show up with cream cheese in it. Peanut Butter Ice Cream Possibly the best ice cream I’ve ever eaten. I’m not sure what they do to make it so good, but it’s incredible. I’d come back just for this." - Sweatshorts

I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Nerea in the West Village, and from start to finish, it was an unforgettable experience. The food was absolutely delicious — every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. A special shoutout to our servers Lukas and Lorenzo, who went above and beyond to make the evening exceptional. Their attentiveness, knowledge of the menu, and warm personality truly elevated the experience. They made us feel welcomed and taken care of in the best way possible. The ambiance at Nerea is sexy and sophisticated, creating the perfect backdrop for a night out. Whether it’s for a date night or just to indulge in great food and vibes, this spot is an absolute gem in the city. I can’t wait to return.

Google
The food was great, the real issue was that our waiter was high, he smelled bad and also smelled of weed, and towards the end of our meal he couldn’t even speak straight. The server name is Cristian, and that detail made my experience not be one that matches the good food that the place has.

Google
Excellent place to hang and eat GREAT food. We came here on a last minute reservation for the birthday party and it was one of the best birthday parties we’ve had. 10/10 would recommend this place for an event or a casual dining experience. Shout out the the staff for being super friendly. I forgot the take picture of the cocktails because we finished them too fast 🤣. Needless to say they were also delicious.

Google
Great vibe. Food was delicious. Had the espresso Martini and smoked truffle old fashioned (such a great twist on an old fashioned- great flavor). Lukas was amazing. He let us try the special Martini. This will sound odd but a caparese martini (tomato, basil and vidka). It was amazing. A must try.

Google
I hate to leave bad reviews, but this truly was some of the worst food I’ve ever had in nyc. Horrible $32 tough, frozen scallops; sunchoke chips and my pasta tasted like they were frozen. Like at least freeze your ingredients properly so they don’t taste like they were frozen! We ordered 6 items and nothing was good.

Google
I will start by saying the portions are absolutely on the smaller side but everything was amazing and worth every penny. We came as a party of 6, during the first seating, on a very quiet Monday in November, so we got a lot of attention from the staff. They were absolutely amazing and were not bothered by our 1 million and 1 questions. The attentiveness was a1. From the dietary restrictions to the shellfish allergy, we were in good hands. We ended up ordering quite a few bottles of wines and cocktails and tried (I kid you not) half of the menu. The highlights were the bruschetta, octopus, ceviche and the watermelon salad. Weirdly enough, these were the simplest dishes on the menu but they were perfectly executed. I enjoyed every bite! I will definitely come back again (and again). Our servers/bartenders Andreas and Andreas were absolutely wonderful. We had a great time with them. This is the perfect date night/intimate restaurant. You do NOT need to sacrifice having great service, aesthetics or good food, they have all three perfected. We weren’t able to try desserts so I guess that is a review for next time.

I came with my parents on 10/18 for a 6:30 reservation. Staff were great and our server was really nice but the hostess was very passive aggressive and tried to loose our reservation at the door, claiming that she didn’t see it and acting very skeptical, after we’d gotten numerous confirmation texts and calls throughout the two hours prior to our reservation. When we did get seated, she said we could only stay for 90 minutes because of the rush but didn’t say that to any of the tables seated after us which were young, hip couples at tables of two, except for another group of older people. Whether this was a coincidence or an attempt to keep the crowd looking like a certain age demographic, we found it unnerving and frankly unnecessary. Especially because the empty tables that were empty when we arrived remained empty for the duration of our meal. The food was alright but lacked flavor and any uniqueness. Im never a snob at restaurants because I am by no means qualified to be but if I’m going to pay $27 dollars for what appeared to be a tablespoon of ragu, I at least expect mirepoix or pasta that’s not undercooked. Seriously, there was more plate than pasta and that applied to all of the dishes we ordered. I’d like to repeat, however, our server was very nice and the interior of the restaurant had a pleasant vibe and decor. But if you’re coming for a welcoming and friendly atmosphere with good food, pick another restaurant.

Google
Went to Nerea excited to celebrate a friends birthday. We had reservations for 7pm for a party of 2. After being seated we were immediately attended to by the waiter. We ordered an app - grilled octopus and for entrees a Caesar salad and an order of spaghetti. We waited 1.5 HOURS and the entrees NEVER CAME! We periodically asked about the status of our food. It’s unclear how or why this occurred, but we were the only POC there. We witnessed parties of 2, 4, and 6 seated AFTER us not only receive their apps but entrees. At around 8:30 we informed the waiter we could no longer wait. Saving grace was us being comped for the 1 mocktail and app we received.

Yelp
This review is only for happy hour. We walked into Nerea on a whim when we saw a sign outside that said they do happy hour. The interior was gorgeous and we sat at the bar. The happy hour deals were great - $10 for an espresso martini, negroni, and other cocktails! There were some deals on small bites but which we regret not trying. Would try this place for dinner next time.

Yelp
Great service, friendly staff...perfect Negroni stop during happy hour...will definitely be back again..gorgeous little spot.. $10 negroni

Yelp
I wanted to like this place more than I did. I will start off by saying that I booked a table for two at 8pm on a Saturday for my boyfriend's birthday. They did let us take our table before 8 and we showed up 45 minutes early because we were in the area and done shopping. I appreciated that. If I had to come up with a name for the atmosphere, I would describe it as "pretentious Sicilian". As far as food and drinks we got the Caesar salad to start (which might have been the highlight of the meal for me) along with an espresso martini. The bread that was brought out was just not good. Which I get it, it's the bread and we didn't pay for it. But bad bread at a fine dining Italian restaurant is blasphemous to me. We then ordered the tubetto pasta and risotto. The risotto was good while the tubetto was forgettable. As a main we split the pollo ripieno. I don't often times pair truffle with chicken but this dish pulled it off well. They did not mention the birthday until we were on our way out which isn't a dealbreaker but rather disappointing since I did mention it while making the reservation.

Yelp
I went here recently and really enjoyed the food. The service was extremely friendly and attentive. The waiter was well informed about the specials and the wines and helped us choose two delicious reds. The fried flower appetizer was a special that day and I really enjoyed it, but my favorite part of the meal had to be the truffle. It was freshly shaved on top of the pasta at the table side and made the meal. The sauce was also creamy and satisfying. The ambiance had cute date night or evening vibes

Yelp
5 stars just for the happy hour (that's all I come for, I'm sure the food is fantastic though) because where else do I find a $10 espresso martini that I can have customized?? You can choose different liquors - I go with the mezcal - and it's such a treat in a not-too-loud space that is gorgeous, lit just enough, and staffed by such kind folks. The Negroni is solid, as well as their HH wines. Bruschetta and shishito peppers are an easy go-to. Anyway - HH - fabulous.

Yelp
The West Village is a reminder of old New York. Nerea was a low key, under the radar spot we found. No reservations were needed on that Thursday evening after a workout. Upon entry, it was dimly lit with a sultry ambiance, which is super sexy. To add to the vibe, they had what sounded like a Succession-esk playlist played throughout the evening. The staff were super accommodating and friendly. We decided to sit at the bar and check out the menu. The Mediterranean salad (Insalata Mediterrana) with extra kalmanta olives was just what I needed. No complaints. My friend had the Spaghetti with 24 karat gold leaf (Spaghetti al Pomo e Oro). Definitely plan to return.

Yelp
I booked this RSVP for myself and two friends. We initially had our time for 630pm but I called and was able to change it to 830pm. Once we got there we had to wait a while because our table wasn't ready. When we arrived I did not realize how small this place was. That was an eye opener for me. Secondly, I would say the waiter and person in the front were very nice and tried their best to make things right. Third, the menu options are very interesting and portion sizes are small. The food id rate it 3/5. Not bad but also not the best. Ambiance is cool and nice. I would say perhaps the best time to go is weekdays and only on weekends but after 830pm or before 5pm. It seems to get pretty busy over the weekend. Overall, it was okay. Calm and simple. We got the Tomahawk Steak which was a special bit it was not really cooked. It was ok

Yelp
I have seen this pop up on Instagram a few times for me and to be honest it wasn't a memorable experience. The decor was nice, restaurant clean, staff friendly, and service great. The food was just okay, I noticed they have great reviews and that is wonderful. It just did nothing for me. The cocktail was good but I am honest with my review and the food was not memorable. It was kind of bland. All of it.

Yelp
Had a truffle pasta craving and Nerea just hit the spot. The staff were attentive and friendly, ambiance was quiet and romantic. They started us off with some complimentary bread and olive oil. I got my usual espresso martini and you guessed it - my truffle pasta. The presentation was A+ and plenty of truffle shavings to top.

Yelp
Amazing food, incredible price, outstanding service and really nice atmosphere. Really checks all the boxes. The pasta was top quality! And they were super generous withs serving us complimentary apertivo drinks and digestivos!

Yelp
What a perfect experience in this delightful gem of a restaurant sitting at their well appointed terrace on a balmy summer evening. The Gavi was delightful accompanied by a crispy fritto misto. What truly made this a place memorable was the excellent service. From the hostess who welcomes you with kindness and warmth, seating you where you desire, to Lukas the charming waiter who was so generously accommodating to ensure we are ecstatic and satisfied customers. Had a wonderful time here with a dear friend who was equally impressed and we truly felt appreciated as if we were welcomed in their European home as their guests. Looking forward to returning! Thank you

Yelp
Nice atmosphere and cool drinks. Food was good and service very good. I would go back if in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Came for a low key dinner with my sister on a Monday night. We live in the neighborhood and have walked by many times since the opening and wanted to come in. Great vibes, great food and our server Andrea was kind and knowledgeable.

Yelp
Great service and great vibes. Loved the aesthetic and lovely happy hour. We ordered wine and apps and it was a great deal

Anna T.

Yelp
Great service, good ambiance, mediocre food...though we didn't try the main pasta dishes so maybe those are good?

Yelp
Andrea is an amazing server. He is attentive and truly serves the most delicious drinks. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
I found this place on tik tok, and really enjoyed the vibe of the place. I went for happy hour and Andrea our server made the perfect mocktail for me. The apps were great, and Andrea was so delightful. 10/10 experience!

Frank M.

Yelp
The Caccio e Peppe was unbelievably and the ambience couldn't have been more welcoming! Ariel made us feel like home and we will be back
google avatar

David Z.

Yelp
Real authentic Italian food at its best You can see the pasta is homemade with great ingredients, salads are fresh, cocktails are unlike others
google avatar

Wendy Z.

Yelp
The restaurant here was really nicely decorated but I thought the food fell a little short in comparison -- especially for the price point. The dishes we had didn't have any unique stand out quality but I thought the waitress/waiters were all really friendly. I would also pass on the seafood platter (Ceviche di Mare) as none of us were really a fan of it. The texture and taste was off!

Ray F.

Yelp
Service 99/10. So good. Ambiance whatever number comes after 5 in 5 stars. They made formica countertops chic!!?! Anyway, if you don't like this place you're trash and the reason the West Village is going to hell.
google avatar

Victoria L.

Yelp
Good drink (Nerea negroni). I enjoyed my food but was slightly underwhelmed by the cheese board (also, nobody gave a description of the cheeses??..) and I couldn't get behind the bread although the olive oil was good. I did like the house made bread sticks. My friend's entree was really salty but the chef was kind enough to make her the entree I chose instead. We were not rushed and were able to walk right in on a Monday evening. I would go out of my way to go but if I were hungry while I'm in the area, I would propose the idea...
google avatar

Ajay P.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant, but mediocre food and service. The highlight was the scallops -- they were well cooked and tender, with a nice sauce. The cacio e pepe pasta too, was solid and had a good amount of shaved white truffle on top. The short rib was very disappointing, as it was fatty, lacked salt, red wine sauce was bland, and it oddly came with one potato wedge and two stalks of asparagus and a bunch of potato chips instead of "roasted potatoes" as the waiter had claimed. Tiramisu was also extremely disappointing: cold and somewhat hard. It was clearly taken from the fridge rather than made fresh. Service was all around very slow.
google avatar

Lindsey L.

Yelp
Food and ambience are a 4 but I'm leaving 2 stars due to service. We were greeted once by our server during the entire meal when she took our order. She never returned to check on us or ask if we needed anything the 3 hours we were there. She appeared at the end of the night only to pick up the check and log her tip in the system. No "have a good night" , "did you enjoy your meal?" Nothing. The manager also approached our table twice to tell us to leave a review on Opentable. We complained about the service and he had no reaction other than a brief sorry and shrugged his shoulders. He frankly seemed like he could care less then swiftly walked away. The waitress was apologetic. I would not return solely for this reason which is sad because the food was great. Terrible service.
google avatar

Sophia G.

Yelp
Food was very good! It was quality, fresh, and presentation was also great. Service was also pleasant--Ricardo was our waiter and was lovely! We had a 7:15 reservation and there wasn't really anyone there (I think because they are rather new) but as the night went on more people came in to dine. I will say everything was awesome except the cheese board was a little underwhelming. Was expecting crackers/different breads/grapes/fruit chutneys/etc. and it was just 4 cheeses some cut up strawberries and a little honey. In my opinion not worth the $25 but the rest of the food and drinks made up for it! I would recommend this place to a friend.

Yelp
Will be coming back everyday of my life. The pasta is so amazing here & the service is even better!

Yelp
Really cute new-ish restaurant! Gives definite Italian/Greek vibes, plus the dishes and glasses used for service are beautiful and very aesthetically pleasing without making it difficult to enjoy your food and drinks. Delicious food and excellent service! We were offered complimentary bread (the black bread was squid ink) and oil to start. We got the burrata as an appetizer, which I really enjoyed, but my boyfriend didn't like that there were croutons on the salad that it came with. We also got the spaghetti and linguine, which were both lick your plate clean delicious! Just a heads up- the spaghetti looks very small, but it was quite filling! For dessert, we ordered the cheesecake with cappuccino gelato and they gave us a lava cake with vanilla gelato as well. We didn't like the gelato much, but the lava cake and cheesecake were very very good! My boyfriend had told them it was my birthday, so they came out with a candle on the lava cake for dessert and comped both desserts for us, which was really really sweet. Definitely would go back!

Sharmila D.

Yelp
This place is amazing! The drjnks, vibes, music, and decor are all so beautiful and worth your time. Andrea, especially, is so thoughtful and his service is excellent. I definitely recommend to come here. As a NY native, this place is top of the list to visit while in NYC.

Taylor T.

Yelp
Happy hour was fabulous and such a great deal! We loved our drinks and appetizers! Loved the vibe too.

Xavier B.

Yelp
Amazing spot to eat and chat at night with your fellow friends or even family. I gotta say my favorite dish was the stripe steak perfectly cooked and seasoned (I recommend it).The drinks were amazing and the service are always on point.

Yelp
Tried this restaurant for dinner with a close friend for girls night out. We made reservations, for a Saturday night. The vibe was sexy and chill. The restaurant size is smaller than it looked in the photos but we didn't feel cramped in any way. We were able to eat, drink and catch up over great conversation comfortably. Service- Our waiter was exceptional and funny! Throughout the entire experience, he was attentive, helpful with suggestions and on top of things! Food- Wow. We tore it up. No other way to explain it. Seriously, everything was so good! Portions are not huge but its filling so you'll be fine. We went there hungry and left satisfied. We ordered: Ceasar al Salmone Linguine Cacio e Pepe al Tartufo Ziti alla Genovese Rubino Cheesecake We cleaned our plates ok! CLEANED lol sooo good! Drinks: strong and tasty I recommend and would return for sure.

Yelp
Went here with my two friends and we all loved it! The restaurant ambiance is great and our server was very friendly and entertaining. Not too crowded at all on a Friday night. We all got pasta dishes and they were delicious, packed full of flavor. We got the burrata for an app which was great as w

Yelp
Great service, atmosphere and exquisite food. The Ziti was to die for as were all of the apps and desserts.

Joohong J.

Yelp
This place is super cute and the food is delicious! Def try scollops and fish. And this ambiance is great for a couple of cocktails. I'll take my date here next time

Yelp
This is the best pasta I have EVER tried, even in Italy. The people that work here are truly amazing and the place Couldn't be more beautiful.

Carly S.

Yelp
food was delicious! best dishes were the eggplant and cacio e pepe drinks were fine...we originally ordered the espresso martini but it was too strong for us so reordered service was a bit slow, it seemed there was some miscommunication between bar/waiter/kitchen. it did not seem like it was the servers fault but rather just a new resturaunt figuring out the kinks ambiance/vibe was great overall, i'd recommend!

Ben T.

Yelp
Romantic modern atmosphere and terrific food. Charming and attentive service. A real gem.

Linda H.

Yelp
All fabulous. Young Italians infusing the atmosphere and the food with their heritage. Fantastic presentation and service. Staff are delightfully charming too!

Yelp
A lot of attention to detail has been given to the decor and ambience of this restaurant. The decor is great - sadly what comes out of the kitchen does not match. The appetizers were good and well presented, but the entrees were very disappointing. My chicken dish was a meager thigh that was barely warmed through and pink inside. The sauce was not identifiable as cranberry and there were two small dollops of spinach. I sent it back. My partner had a risotto that was more like soup and definitely not worth $32. I'm happy to pay for good food that is well prepared, but sad to say this was not. I hope they were just having a bad night, but I won't be going back to find out.

Tom K.

Yelp
Having been open only for 3 months, Nerea managed to make it to be my favorite restaurant in the city, and I've been there many times already. Food is delicious and inventive, something that's missing from so many restaurants in NYC at this price point. Quality of food is like in a fine dining restaurant, but it's not as pricy ($100-$150 per person with wine, while NYC fine dining starts at $200-$250 with wine). Service (Andrea, Stefano and Mario) is fantastic, very attentive and welcoming. Wine selection is spot on, with one of my favorite $20 whites on the list. While the preparation has been changing, my favorites stayed the same: appetizer - scallops; filled pasta; main - the beef dish. Regardless of some updates to these dishes, they have always been amazing. Smoked margarita is the go-to cocktail.

TrainLover9000 S.

Yelp
The food was great, we had the salmon tartare and burrata salad for appetizer. Our main course was Bronzino and pasta both were amazing. Service was horrible and we felt discriminated against, we're African American. We arrived at 7:15pm, was seated immediately by the host. After being seated, a party next to us was closing out, the host went to retrieve the woman jacket. Two other parties came in at 7:30pm, the host immediately offers to hang their jacket. Never once was we asked to hang our jackets, we call her over and asked. She claim she didn't know we had jackets on...BS because we were right at the door we she stands and greet. Plus the restaurant is small you can stand in front and see the whole reaturant. Now a waiter come takes our drink order, bring the drinks and take the appetizer order. Our waiter now is the bartender, we finished our appetizers around 8:10pm. No one came over to clean the table, we had to request that and we had to request bread even though every party that came after us got bread immediately after sitting. After requesting the table to be cleared and inquire who will be taking our order because our waiter is the bartender now. We place the main course at 9pm, the energy with us was not pleasant or welcoming. Seeing the staff interact with all the other non black guests, checking in, clearing their table quickly, receiving bread re-fills, bringing new dishes out for the next course, smiling etc. We had wave down waiter every time we needed something, request table to be clean, didn't even get ask if we were ordering dessert. Will never return here, don't think African American are welcomed. Maybe the staff should work on their phony skills so when African Americans do visit they don't feel out of place.

Radya M.

Yelp
Service sucks guy couldn't remember 3 items. Then 10 minutes later told us one of the items is not available then had to ask my order again. And still waiting for drinks...
