8 Foods to Eat in Curaçao and Where to Try Them - AFAR

"A historic, memorabilia-filled bar open since 1954 where locals and visitors sample rom berde (green rum) either as a shot or in cocktails; the fluorescent green spirit tastes sweet and medicinal and delivers a strong kick, and the lively decor adds to the old-school drinking atmosphere." - Rosalind Cummings-Yeates

It was great to finally experience this spot! This super cool bar has a really nice vibe (dive bar feeling). While there are a few tables, it's definitely more of a standing bar. Their specialty is green rum, and I tried both a mixed drink and a shot. They were both good and offered a very interesting flavor profile. Since it is a full bar, they can make most cocktails or well drinks not on the menu. Definitely check them out if you're ever in the area.

Stopped by Netto Bar and it’s definitely one of those places you have to check out if you want a taste of local culture. It’s actually the oldest bar on the island and has a cool history behind it. They're especially known for their green rum. It’s a heavy local hangout, though some tourist groups do stop by as part of tours. Once you head deeper into the town past that area, it gets even more local and you won’t really see tourists around. We had a piña colada and a couple of other drinks, all solid. If you’re into laid-back spots with real local flavor, this is a great one to hit.

A really special bar. As a tourist, you’ll walk down the street and not see many other tourists - which to me is a great sign. And then you’ll get to this small bar. The two bartenders were super friendly and the atmosphere is a sort of low key dive bar. And then, yes, there’s green rum. I thought it was a gimmick - but it actually has a distinct and delicious flavor. Chatting with one of the bartenders, I learned that it’s made with anise and mint. When used in a cocktail, it’s absolutely fantastic. Worth the walk!

Oldest bar on the island. Unique green rum. Cocktails between 7 and 8$ are delicious

What you call an establishment. Truly the most random bar I’ve been to. A crossing of so many worlds, condensed in this tiny green space. The green rhum is good, nothing to go on about. But the service is nice. Took us a while to notice this was an Irish bar hence the green liquor. The locals and tourists meet in really entertaining ways. A great place to go people watch

A must stop as a tourist. Historic bar in the area and they make their own really interesting green rum, was delicious in cocktails. Bought a 1/2 bottle to take home for $16 USD Great music and just a really fun local dive bar.

The oldest and most legendary bar in Curaçao! Their frosty green rum drinks are incredible!! It's the only place in the world where you can find this kind of rum. The bartenders are very friendly and welcoming! They hustled about and made sure everyone at the bar was being given prompt attention. Drink prices are reasonable. Cash is preferred. However, they do take credit cards reluctantly. I loved seeing the mix of locals and tourists drinking and dancing together to Michael Jackson songs!! I definitely recommend stopping in for drinks at the bar. They have a seating area as well. The bar is small but fits a lot of people comfortably. It's a really cool spot to chill and experience island life!!

If you’re looking for a historical, traditional place to visit in Willemstad, this is the place to go. As the oldest bar in town, it boasts all of the history you could ever want. The bartender we had when we went right at opening was the original owner’s grandson and he gave us a little taste of history with some fun stories about how it came to be. If you come here and don’t taste the famous green rum, you’re missing out. Granted, although I wouldn’t drink more than one shot (because of personal tastes), it’s just a ton of nostalgia in one sip. Could not recommend a visit to this place more!
