On my recent 2-day visit to Nevada City, I came to this shop 3 times! Not even joking. I figured one visit would be enough, but then I ate everything and had to keep returning. The candy is so, so good! The prices are very reasonable. But most of all, the customer service was outstanding! The same young lady helped us every time and she was super friendly and helpful and really knowledgeable. Her recommendations were spot-on! I am so happy I bought both the Nevada City Gold and the Mother Lode. And the pretzel with chocolate, caramel And pecans. My only regret is that I didn't buy more! Please ignore the negative reviews. Those people are insane. Take it from me (lifelong sugar addict), visit this magical place and just go crazy!!

We absolutely loved this candy shop. My kids were huge fans of the cherry taffy, and I had to make a second trip to grab more of the caramel and chocolate-covered pretzels, as well as the peanut butter graham crackers.

We skipped dessert at the Stone House Pizza restaurant in favor of the Chocolate Shoppe because the wife loves to try local versions of Rocky Road bricks from the region. This shoppe is family owned and run which typically means that the flavor of chocolate we could get here may be unique to this establishment. The shoppe is located on the right side of the street heading up the hill in Nevada City's Pine Street in Downtown. When you come through the door, it looks like most candy/chocolate shops you would see offering the same kinds of commercial candies, sodas, ice creams, etc. Standard fare. We are only ever interested in the chocos so went straight to the glass to see what they offered. Their rocky road is sold in clusters vs. cut up bricks/cubes and were about 3.50 a piece. For me, this is a much more reasonable price than I am used to as many boutique choco shoppes sell these for the tune of about 8.50 or so, but that is also a pricing based on weight and not necessarily by piece. We also picked up a Macadamia Cluster and a Peanut Butter Cup. The Macadamia nut cluster tasted good. Good sized nuts with a sprinkle of salt works for me as I love the salt hit with my choco. The peanut butter cup was tall, about 2.5 Reese's stacked on each other and the peanut butter inside is smooth and balanced for a candy vs. sandwich peanut butter. Well done. For my wife, she felt the milk chocolate was good, but not as good as her favorite from the Monterey coast Pier choco shoppe. I agree with her in the sense that these were good, but not the best we have ever had. In a world where chocolate tastes less and less like what you expect it to everyday, this one is still a good one. I recommend it for price and taste.

I have been coming here for a long time as i used to live in Nevada City! It has kept its charm over the years with great chocolate...ice cream and nostalgic candy! Try the limited pumpkin ice cream...delicious! I love the chocolate gummy bears! They are located on Broad street (corner of north pine and Broad street). It will bring you back to childhood memories !

Google
not often you come across an ice cream/chocolate shop combo that works. This place is the exception. Really nice welcoming vibe and even better sweets. Super clean as well. Thanks for the hospitality!!

IF YOU HAVE CELIACS OR GLUTEN ALLERGY STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. ALL GF PRODUCTS ARE GUARANTEED WITH CROSS-CONTAMINATION CONFIRMED BY STAFF. I informed the blonde staff member of the incorrect statement of gluten free if it's guaranteed to have cross contamination. I would have liked to try some of their products. Unfortunately they do not understand food safety 101. Again, if you have a gluten allergy or any food allergies, stay away from this business if you don't want to be poisoned.

Google
What a great selection of candy in bags, rolls and pick your own flavor of taffy‼️. The absolute favorite today was the delicious pumpkin fudge😋. So many different chocolates to choose from with or without nuts. Candy from Germany, Italy and old fashioned candy that I haven't seen in 40 years. Needless to say I walked out with so many great sweets to choose from👌👏. Jennifer who helped us was so personable and recommended various candies as I asked questions. The owners, Bill and Linda, are fantastic and so proud the the quality and variety they offer.

Google
Delicious ice cream, the guy who help us was very nice and patient with all our kids. We really had a good time in this small ice cream shop.

Yelp
If you need your sweet tooth satisfied, Nevada City Chocolate Shoppe is the place to look at! It has that nice old-fashioned shoppe feel to it once you walk in. The decor is wall-to-wall sweets! They have inside seating and one table outside. No public restroom in view. They have old school nostalgic classic candies you enjoyed as a kid like candy/bubble gum cigarettes, salt water taffy, wax lips, and miners gold bags. Check out their chocolates, caramel apples, and fudge. If your looking for a different sweet treat, they have a variety of flavored ice creams with hot fudge or caramel sauces and soda pop. The store owners are nice and friendly. Support your local business!

Yelp
So many delicious, home made options and even a few sugar free items. All tastefully made. I would have taken some home but alas the August heat made it impossible. The staff were helpful and friendly despite the shop being packed with customers.

Yelp
We were in the shop before a couple of other people walked in. We were not greeted, they were. I got my stuff and waited in line. The person before me and after me were helped. Literally looked at me, and jumped to the next person. What was different? They were all Caucasian and we weren't.

Sam S.

Yelp
Candy tasted like shit and there wasn't much of a selection anyway . The service was horrible. Seeing their reviews make sense. Go ahead and pass on this one for Victorian Christmas, unless you want a bah hum bug atmosphere. Doubt they'll stay in business. After three different families stopped me outside to tell me they'll never be back. I'm considering filing a lawsuit, I have the perfect attorney right there in Nevada City. Obviously plenty of people have had the same experience and I'll be reaching out to each and every one of them. The owners are complicit in discriminatory behavior.

Yelp
1/18/2025: Hello~We're heeeeeeerrre!!!!! Gotta get our chocolate inhalation fix now--no excuses, just sashay our fine selves inhaling as much chocolate as possible! Oooops~I couldn't refrain: I immediately inhaled the dark chocolate peanut butter cup, a dark chocolate orange stick, and a dark chocolate turtle! As a result, anything dark chocolate is my first delightful obsesssion I will wholeheartedly welcome 24/7~lol.

Yelp
Updating my review a week later. I have now actually eaten the chocolate and returned (the request of a friend) for more. When I walked in the clerk greeted me with, "Nice to see you again." Wait, what? Such impressive customer service. The chocolates are delicious. My friend was very impressed and already into her first piece before she had left the shop.

Mary B.

Yelp
Bad service, rude lady, would leave 0 stars if I could. Yelled at us to leave as we were still shopping the case and waiting for her to collect our 4 items. Disappointing, everything looked delicious, would've been nice to have had some decent service.

Yelp
It's been many years since I've visited this area so I was so glad to see they still had the apple pie caramel apples!!! These are my absolute favorite! I love all the older and unique candy selections they have too! Brings me back to some of the fun candies we had as kids! Upon leaving the store I checked in on yelp and was excited to see their offer for a free piece of fudge. I immediately went back inside and got a delicious slice of pumpkin pie fudge.

Yelp
Stopped by here for gifts while on a getaway in the area. Service was fine, and cute to browse. The chocolate looks nice, though having purchased a variety of fudge and chocolates here, I would say the quality is so-so. Not the strongest cacao flavor, kind of waxy and overly sweet. We generally eat specialty chocolate (Dandelion, Askinose, etc) so this was notably a step down from what we typically get. If Sees is your reference point, this is a notch below for flavor and complexity. Still, our family was excited to sample the items we brought back. All in all, it makes a convenient and fun shareable gift if you're on vacation in the area; just don't expect the chocolate to stand out on its own qualities.

Yelp
Caramel apples! I really enjoy a good "apple pie" caramel apple, the price was a bit on the high side but I was game to try one. The caramel was way above average and I went back and got another one a couple days later Cute old time feel to the shoppe, service was fine. Instead of charging extra for using a credit card, they give a "discount" for cash, but didn't have enough change for me to use cash on my first visit - I came prepared on visit #2.

Yelp
Lots of yummy chocolate choices. I purchased a bunch of nut clusters; they were very large and they delicious, they were very hard to eat. The chocolate was hard and couldn't be broken. My daughter was happy with the taffy, and my husband was happy with the orange tootsie pops.

Ray D.

Yelp
They have the most amazing selection of the highest quality chocolates I've ever seen anywhere along with a number of chocolate related and other drinks, warm and cold that are super delicious!

Yelp
I have been coming here for years and it still has kept its charm! It is Located on the corner of North Pine and Broad street in Nevada City. I love coming in here after dinner to pick up a few treats! I love their chocolate gummy bears and toffee! There was a line for their ice cream...get the seasonal pumpkin ice cream in a waffle cone! Everything is always good and fresh! There is a few places to eat inside as well. I have brought friends here and they loved looking at all the selection they have..especially candy that they had not seen in years! The kiddos really like this place! If you are in for a treat and a "feel good" atmosphere than this is a great place. A bit expensive but you are paying for quality. Fun little shop! Love that they carry nostalgic candies..brings back childhood memories!

Yelp
I have to say that I truly enjoyed my time in the shop. There are a few reasons why but one of the biggest reasons was actually the two girls that were working that day. Absolutely wonderful human beings. Sweet, personable, friendly, and just fun to chat with. They were very attentive to the customers as well which is always nice :-) This feels like an old-time candy shop that you would find way back in the day. I loved it. It actually reminded me of a candy shop that's in Columbia California but without the period dress. It's warm and inviting. There are quite a few different types of candy that you won't find at the grocery store. The required clove and blackjack gum are available as well :-) I saw the candy cigarettes that I have not seen since I was a little kid I didn't even know they made them anymore! They had a great assortment of gummies as well. This included the haribo happy cherries that have become far more difficult to find than really should be. They have quite a few different truffles but since I had just been to the travel shop I didn't purchase any here. What I did get was a variety of old time candies, gummies, a few specialty chocolates and the epic find of the day which were the most delicious Turkish delights I have had ever. I wish I knew the brand they buy! These were phenomenal. I just got the assorted fruit, I didn't try the rose flavor as it's not always my favorite in Turkish delights. However if it's anything like the fruit flavored ones, I bet it would be amazing. Much like the truffle shop I am actually glad this is an hour away from me because I would be here all the time and probably weigh over a thousand pounds because of all the sweet goodness. I will definitely make an effort to visit the shop more often however.

Jack C.

Yelp
This is one of those "how the heck did I live without this" type of places. The exterior of the shop isn't much to look at, but the chocolate, candy, fudge, etc., is INSANELY GOOD. If you are familiar with See's Candy, it's kind of like that, but the products are way fresher and there is a wider selection. The service is also wonderful - knowledgeable, efficient, and caring. I will say that while I love their candy, I am partial to Treats ice cream (they specialize in ice cream).

Raquel B.

Yelp
We heard they had vegan options here and boy were they right! Chocolate raspberry bars, cashews and dark chocolate clusters, dipped cherries...and so much more. Super friendly staff with tons of suggestions. It has an old timey candy shoppe vibe that is so welcoming too. Great quality chocolate. Definitely going back.

Joe B.

Yelp
Our experience was very unpleasant. We were told to wait in line while trying to see our options through the glass. When we finally reached the front, we were told we should have made our choice before getting to the front in a very rude tone, as if she was have a terrible day. The problem was, we couldn't see the options properly because there were so many people in line. The woman was very rude about it, and we won't be returning.
google avatar

Gai X.

Yelp
The service was great! Chocolate made in shop. Their popular is the Mother Lode - and I agree! The Mother Lode is perfect in chocolate to peanut butter ratio, has a nice crunch to the bite, and not too sweet. We went back for seconds and got the Chocolate Caramel Walnut Fudge!

Yelp
Chocoholic Paradise! We found parking just around the corner of this chocolate shoppe so naturally we couldn't leave without checking it out. This was the last store we visited during our visit to Nevada City. The shoppe sold packaged candies, some vintage, some handmade and they have a gorgeous array of chocolates. Ice cream is sold here too but we already had our treats at Treats ice cream shoppe just down the street on Main Street. My eyes were fixated on the handmade chocolates. I was pleased to see chocolate covered nuts -- peanuts, almonds, cashews, pecan, walnuts etc. they came in barks, turtles, rocky road, and clusters. Choose from milk or dark chocolate. They have beautiful handmade truffles. My passion are milk chocolate peanut clusters and they were a good size too! I purchased four pieces... 1 for the hubby and 3 for me LoL! History trivia: The chocolate shop is located in the Kidd & Knox Building [1856]. It was the early offices of judges, lawyers, statesmen including senators. Don't miss this little shop while walking around Nevada City. Have a treat, there are table seating inside. Review #1177

Jon K.

Yelp
Really bad vibes from the manager lady. Feel bad for the younger folk who work under her because she is super intense and gives off passive aggressive vibes. Ice cream was good but I've never had bad ice cream. Just take a chill pill would ya!

Lisa T.

Yelp
My husband and I have gone to the shop all the time for years because we used to really enjoy it. But we will not be going back since tonight at the victorian Christmas, Our grandson ,who's only two , accidentally dropped his seven dollar piece of candy on the floor. when we asked for another one because he was so sad. One of the workers said ,"do you want to pay for it or do you just expect me to give it to you free. " Good grief clearly the candy only cost them $.25 to make and it was for a baby for goodness sake. Finally, after much complaining, she gave us one very rudely. Poor business etiquette

Laura L.

Yelp
I went here tonight during the Victorian Christmas and I will never go back. I have never been treated with such disrespect in my life. Their customer service is rude and condescending. They acted like myself and my small child were meaningless and our questions and concerns about the food were ignored. I bought treats for my children here and instantly regretted it due to the way I was mistreated. Also my elderly mother was scolded for bringing in a stroller by accident because she didn't see the sign. She left feeling embarrassed. Side note: anytime someone leaves a bad review the owner calls them a liar.
google avatar

Tiffany F.

Yelp
Horrible service. My daughter opened her candy and dropped it, seconds after buying it. We asked them if we could replace it and they said no. Leaving her in tears. They didn't even care. Left them a tip too. Do yourself a favor and avoid this shop
google avatar

Lynn D.

Yelp
Love this candy shop. They offer retro candy and a large assortment of delicious chocolates. We love the milk chocolate pecan turtles.
google avatar

Mark Y.

Yelp
Sorry, I know I'm going to sound like a whiny "B" but... Wanted to bring back some chocolates to Hawaii to give as gifts to friends and coworkers but it just wasn't meant to be. The treats look great in here, a pretty big assortment of goodies. Unfortunately, we were just in here checking out the shop and the entire time we were inside the woman working there was on a phone call talking and laughing. I'm not exaggerating when I say that her back was turned to us the whole time we were in there and didn't even acknowledge us, not even eye contact! And it's not like we were only in there a minute, we wandered around the entire store for quite some time waiting for her to get off the phone which never happened. I was bouncing between dropping the "1" bomb or not but decided to at least give it 2 stars. The shop is inviting (but a bit dark) and the chocolates do look good. Just wish I could've at least gotten some. Oh well, onward to the next business that would interested in selling products to us expendable tourists.
google avatar

Janet I.

Yelp
Omg...chocolate on a rainy day is perfect anytime. Of course, we used our free slice and it was delish. The selection of chocolates and other sweets was pretty good too bad I couldn't enjoy any of it. My hubby was in hog heaven especially with the fudge selections. He just loves fudge, but he is good about savoring it and not eating it all at once. I'm glad we stopped by. If you come to Nevada city you must stop by. You won't regret it.
google avatar

Veronica A.

Yelp
This place had so many old school candies that you don't see much anymore! Great selection of ice creams, and really good chocolate selection as well. The store itself was immaculately clean, which is extremely appreciated during these times. 10/10 would recommend you stop in next time you're up in Nevada City for the day.
google avatar

Issy D.

Yelp
This place resembles Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Everywhere you look there are different sorts of candies and chocolates. My boyfriend and I got a little carried away with our purchases. We ended up spending 25 dollars on chocolate (whoops...) but man everything has been delicious! We got a mix of different chocolates including toffee, peanut cups, s'mores bars, caramels and turtles. Honestly I forget everything since we went a little crazy!
google avatar

Cooper L.

Yelp
I could be spelling her name wrong, but I talked with Shyanne over the phone today about the different fudge options. Notably, the website doesn't mention all the fudge flavors or types, but Shyanne went over the list of flavors and answered specific questions about which ingredients were included in the fudge types. She was very caring and warming; she also mentioned that some of the fudge that's available one day might not be avail the next day. She also offered to put aside some fudge for me "hold the fudge" which I appreciated! No, I haven't eaten any goodies from this sweet shoppe, but Shyanne has my vote for "Customer Service Manager" should a position for that ever rise. Thank you, Shyanne! Cooper Z. L.

Yelp
DON'T BELIEVE A THING THEY SAY. The "vegan" ice-cream is not vegan. Many of the things they serve are old and stale.

Bethany O.

Yelp
This is the rudest customer service I have ever experienced in my life they hate children they're way overpriced. And no one is friendly.
google avatar

Jacob C.

Yelp
You kind of feel like you're walking in the Willy Wonka's chocolate factory when you go here! My wife and I took a day trip to Nevada City and walked around their old historic district. I'm very much recommend it to anyone looking to get out of the city for a day. The shop was exquisite and had some of the chocolate bars you were raised on! I was pleased to see they had sugar free chocolate and a white arrangement of them as well. I tried there sugar free milk chocolate almond bark and it was pretty good. We ordered a peanut butter chocolate egg for my son and had his name put on it for Easter. I didn't realize wait it was going to take for to dry, should we ended up waiting about 10 minutes after we ordered it. The prices were decent and the customer service was excellent! We will be back.
google avatar

Brittany D.

Yelp
They have a large selection of chocolate, candy, caramel apples and even older candy that was fun to see since I hadn't for years. The prices are pretty high. I got a few truffles and a chocolate covered marshmallow. I wanted to get more but there was a big line and didn't want to hold it up. They had a bunch of different flavors of cotton candy but it was 5 bucks for a small little container. What was really cool is that have a smashed penny machine in there and I collect them so I was excited! The chocolate truffles were really yummy

M. P.

Yelp
Great chocolate shop with lots of vintage style candy. Love it! They also have cute gifts and tasty ice cream

Plynn P.

Yelp
I order from these people for my 99 year old mother and I'm always very very happy with the way that they have accommodated me and the chocolates are yummy
google avatar

Alyssa B.

Yelp
We decided to stop by here after walking by it. We were in town for a lunch stop and couldn't resist exploring the area a bit. I'm glad this was one of the stops. As a chocolate fan, this place was perfect for a quick sweets fix! The service is great and the products are wonderful. I really enjoyed the balsamic vinegar chocolate (crazy sounding, but amazing and unique). I would highly recommend chocolate lovers give this place a shot.
google avatar

Amy W.

Yelp
The chocolates were good, but the caramel apple was the best I've ever had! The apple was tart and the caramel was thick and yummy. They also offer a large variety of bulk candies, cute little knick-knack candies, 'different' sodas, ice cream, and of course homemade chocolates. Along with the 'usual' things (fruits, nuts and creams) they offer a some unique chocolate pairings such as rhubarb, balsamic vinegar, etc. To round out the experience the staff was friendly and helpful and the store is COVID safe. We'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Bob H.

Yelp
Fun, kind staff combined with delicious desserts and a perfect location make this a perfect stop for anyone with a sweet tooth downtown.

Anna A.

Yelp
Ridiculous charge $.75 extra for splitting two scoops of required 2 scoops when you order their house waffle cone. Also 0.50 extra for the cup too! Expired tasting sugar free almond bark as well. They charged us for two bags of chocolate pare lines or whatever they were called then I had to get refunded because I wanted two pieces and wasn't told that they switched to two bags by weight. Overall not a good experience. They have ridiculous company rules and not fresh chocolate. The mango gelato was ok. My kids blue pop rocks ice cream was mediocre at best. You can see the frost bite on some of the ice cream.
google avatar

Linda C.

Yelp
Come here for anything and just about everything chocolate! Retro style candy shop with lots of glass jars filled with all types of candies and the showcase filled with handmade decadent chocolates and fudge. Even sugar free handmade chocolates! They also have about 30 flavors of ice cream and absolutely delicious hot chocolate.

Margot K.

Yelp
It is a candy dream come true it is a truly magical they have so many amazing candys and tude and ice cream
google avatar

Stef M.

Yelp
I'm in heaven!! Lots of Vegan Chocolate options!!! Not only do they clearly mark 90% of their chocolates if they are Vegan, Kosher, or Gluten Free, but also some candies too. You get me, you really get me! Thank you!!! This is a super cute shop. Friendly staff. The place is very busy. You can tell they are a local fave. Located perfectly among lots of fun and unique shops. I will be dreaming of the Vegan Coconut Haystacks. I am posting photos of the Vegan chocolates they had labeled, because I am DELIGHTED at how many options they had.
google avatar

Charleen M.

Yelp
I heard absolutely glowing reviews from my friends who visited Linda, Bill and Jennifer at Nevada City Chocolate Shoppe ... about the quality and freshness of their products, how yummy everything tasted, and how lovely and quaint the shop feels. With my son's wedding coming up, I was looking for something special to place in the out-of-town gift bags, as well as on the reception candy table. Incredibly, Linda's website displayed just what I needed ... beautifully prepared, appropriately colored and wrapped bride and groom pretzels ... Linda took great care to prepare the pretzels and toppings the day of shipping so that we would receive the highest quality product, which indeed we did! I am so sorry I am unable to attach a photo of these works of art, but when I arrived at the reception candy table, not a single bride or groom pretzel was to be found!!! Obviously, word had spread about how FRESH and YUMMY the pretzels tasted! Thank you Linda, Bill, Jennifer and Nevada City Chocolate Shoppe!
google avatar

Anna B.

Yelp
My son got his first chocolate cigar here. I may shed a tear. It was one of those milestone moments. As soon as we got in the car he said, "I'm ready to smoke". Aw. Too darn cute. Sometimes it's fun yo be PI instead of PC. This shop reminds me of the one in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Old time candy shop with ice cream too. I didn't try anything but it smelled great! They deck it out for Christmas. The service was efficient and friendly.
google avatar

Kristine D.

Yelp
This charming little shop will not only provide plenty of options to satisfy your sweeth tooth, it will also act as portal back to childhood the minute you walk in the door. Remember the sugary sourness of Zotz? They had them in several flavors! Do Pop Rocks bring up fun memories of giggling with your friends? They had them here too --- along with a rainbow of ice cream flavors and an assortment of fun sweet things. The assortment of truffles will send chocolate lovers in a sugar high at the first look. I highly recommend you try the Oreo Cookie Truffle --- simply divine!! Stop in if you're in the area --- the atmosphere is pure fun, the folks running the place are friendly and the prices are great!
google avatar

Amihan M.

Yelp
I love chocolates. And candy. And ice cream. And this place has these and more. Yes, it's touristy, but really Nevada City kinda is? Get the truffles, they are delish!

Alicia C.

Yelp
The woman in the store accused my son and his friend of stealing. Made them empty their pockets (which they did). Even after emptying their pockets she told them if they left the store she'd call the police. I went in to see what was taking them so long and they told me the lady shook them down and threatened them if they left. Next time we will wait for the police to be called and let them search the kids so that they find nothing and we can get a formal apology. I made my son's friend put down the candy he was going to buy and we left. He was in the store buying some candy because he's diabetic and his blood sugar was low. So we had to go to another store to find him something. The boys both said this ruined the nice day we were having.
google avatar

Letter W.

Yelp
The prices are high. I could see the justification of the prices, being that it supports a local business; however, the ice cream I had was not that good. Yes, it's a chocolate shop. Perhaps I should have ordered chocolate instead. Nonetheless, $4 for one scoop of forgettable ice cream should be a crime.
