Making Room at Bars and Clubs for Trans and Nonbinary Chicagoans - Eater Chicago

"Villanelle is a queer-focused events venue created by Zoe Schor and Whitney LaMora. It replaced Split-Rail and its neighboring gallery space, the Martin. The venue is designed for queer events and community gatherings, supported by over $80,000 in Kickstarter donations. Split-Rail's popular fried chicken is available as a catering option." - Naomi Waxman

Hands down one of the best renting experiences I have ever had! Its difficult to find short term leases in Chicago. However, the management team was able to accommodate my request for a 6 month lease. From walk through, to move in, to move out Derek was phenomenal. It's a very quiet and clean community with friendly neighbors. Units are soundproof (never heard neighbors). It was nice to be able to enter the building/unit using my phone. Studios were very spacious, well designed, and had a lot of storage and space. While there were multiple locks (front door, to elevator, elevator, unit) I felt incredibly safe. It's very close to many restaurants and activities (including Lake Michigan). It is located in a prime spot as you can walk or choose a number of bus or train routes. Maintenance requests were very easy to submit and addressed quickly. Maintenance and custodial staff were incredibly kind. I would highly recommend this complex to anyone and would love to live here again!

I’ve lived here for about a year now and it’s been a great experience. The units and appliances are modern. The management team is respectful and considerate, and take the time to send out any notices far in advance. They have also been responsive for the few times I’ve needed help, and maintenance requests are quick and painless (the maintenance team is also very friendly!) I have also noticed that when they do their routine visits in the building, they go out of their way to sort any miscellaneous packages into the secure lockers, which I appreciate. Overall I have no complaints and I would definitely recommend this place if it’s within your budget.

I was here for 18 months and really enjoyed my stay. It's in a great location. The L-train is right across the street along with bus stops. There is a CVS and Gangham Grocery store that is not even a 5 min walk. It's a safe neighborhood. Being on a main street the evenings were quiet on the weekdays. The building is well maintained. Any maintenance issues were handled in a timely manner. Management was very helpful. I would've stayed longer however I had an out-of-state job transfer.

I just moved out of this place after a 1 year lease. The building itself is nice and the location is good. The rooftop is nice. However, the leasing managers specifically Derek and Susan treated the tenants as if we are college students. They are very condescending and act as if they are doing you a favor in letting you live there even though we paid a good amount in rent. Overall not bad but really did not enjoy paying rent to folks who treated us like that. I wanted to update this review that they charged me an $800 cleaning fee when I moved out due to leaving about 10 command strips for hanging pictures in the walls. When I tried to appeal this they sent me to collections court. Truly a terrible experience.

The property managers were responsive and kind, the neighbors were respectful, and the unit had a modern design with gorgeous natural lighting! The location is also great, with a cute dog park a few blocks away and easy access to public transit, convenience stores, restaurants, and cafes!

Beautiful place to live. The lobby and rooftop patio are straight out of a magazine, the building is in pristine condition, and the gym has all the basic necessities for a good workout. I feel so safe in this neighborhood, and the local bars, restaurants, grocery store, and free street parking make life convenient. The building is right by the Blue Line and many bus stops, so I can be in the Loop or at the beach within 15-20 minutes. The apartment itself is brand-new with a picture window, skyline views, gas range, ice maker, great appliances, and in-unit laundry. The bathroom is nicer than most hotels, and there is so much built-in storage that a dresser isn’t necessary. Most of the tenants are young professionals (around 20-30) and are very social. One complaint I have is that the intersection outside is very busy, so crossing the street can be a little nerve-racking. There is no pool or hot tub, which have become standard in many high-rises in the city. And, at a price point of over $1800 per month for a 500-square-foot studio, you could find an apartment like this in any Chicago neighborhood—so make sure you love River West before moving here!

Had A pretty great experience living here. Mr. Lipe always was accommodating whenever we had questions and the response time was amazing. Also being that worked downtown, the commute was awesome since it is right next to the blue line. Also spent many nights on the rooftop hanging with friends and enjoying the view. Definitely recommend!!

Susan has been highly accommodating and took the time to listen to all my concerns. I loved the location, it's very convenient and I favored the appliances in the studio. A couple of stars are off for minimal reasons. It was lack of communication when we first moved into the building. When we got approved for our units we had to wait over 5 months to move in. That was quite tough, but regardless I enjoyed my first apartment living experience here.
