Downtown Russian Restaurant Nevski Is Serving Up Cheese Boats | Eater Montreal

"Taking a fast-casual, lunch-friendly approach for the downtown crowd, I found Nevski’s short, hearty menu centers on dumplings and Adjarian khachapuri alongside a few soups, house plates and cocktails. There are three dumpling options: smaller meat-filled beef–pork–veal pelmeni with tarragon sauce; a salmon–crème fraîche pelmeni with lemon sour cream; and classic potato–onion vareniki served with bacon and sour cream. The khachapuri arrive in the Adjarian, boat-shaped format—cheese-filled and topped with a runny egg—and are offered plain or with spinach, smoked sausage, or Russian meatballs; the cheesy, simple perfection of khachapuri makes it a rare find in Montreal. The menu is rounded out by soups (including borscht), a beef-and-mushroom stroganoff poutine, a Russian-style smoked-sausage hot dog, and pishki (Russian doughnuts) rolled in cinnamon sugar for dessert. Prices top out at $14, and the space—decked out with Soviet kitsch—also makes it a novel spot for after-work cocktails during the 5 à 7. It’s open at 1228 Stanley from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday to Friday, 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday, 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, and 5:30 to 11 p.m. Saturday." - Tim Forster

The food is authentic Russian 🪆 food and the service is great. Most of the staff actually speak Russian and are super nice 👍🙂. I would recommend to check their social media feed and go for a special event. We were there for "Maslinitsa" which is a special holiday and they serve delicious 🤤 crapes 🥞 🍯 I don't usually even like sweets but it was delicious. We also had the borscht which was ok, the pelmeni 🥟 with 🍄 were delicious and the drinks 🍻🍷 🍸 were very original as well. Over all great experience well worth checking out. Only negative is that we were seating all the way in the back and it was super hot in the winter ❄️☃️ time as I guess people near the entrance must feel a breese. The live music was absolutely great. 🎶 🎷. *The entrance is not easy to find it's actually on the little side street between King 👑 and Queen streets.

Amazing food and drinks. Great selection and taste. We tried the dumplings, the fish cake and the mini blinis. All of them extraordinary!

The food was excellent, the cocktails were really good, well-balanced. The service was superb and the ambiance was lovely. A little hidden gem of Russian/Georgian food. I highly recommend it!

The place looks great and the service is very nice and polite — no complaints there. But the food was really disappointing. The plates are *very, very small*, and the taste is far from what it’s supposed to be. Honestly, even Costco pelmeni taste better. Beautiful atmosphere, but the food definitely doesn’t match the presentation.

Was excited to have Russian and Georgian food again. However, this place was a bit of a disappointment. We arrived and were told that we needed to order quickly as they were having a private event at 930pm, which was lots of time since we arrived at 830pm. However, the server took forever and we were clearly forgotten. we were finally able to flag down someone and placed our order. The mushroom dumplings and the chicken adjika dumplings were good but only lukewarm. The tefteli meatball cheese boat / khachapuri was a fraction of the size of what you see in their Instagram posts with only 3 meatballs and the cheese was still hard and not fully melted. You can see in the video the egg is runny but the cheese is hard and it was difficult to dip the bread as instructed on their menu on how to eat! The donuts were also hard and not sweet enough as a dessert. It was all ok and tasty but because everything wasn’t hot, it didn’t seem fresh.
