Smoking jackets.. Old school mighty classy garnments!! New & Lingwood is one of those rarefied British brands whose history emanates from every pore. One need only spend ten minutes in its Jermyn Street or Eton stores to sense that there’s more to the company than meets the eye. Eton was the perfect place for a gentleman’s outfitter and the house quickly established itself as premier supplier to both the scholars and masters of Eton College, a relationship that continues to this day. Indeed, every boy’s uniform is still fitted – in the traditional manner– at its original Eton premises.

Stephane isn’t my personal couturier, but it feels like it, he makes me feel like a king and to be honest, L’État n’est pas moi! But perhaps someday I will finally feel like I’m the King of the world! In the meantime, I’ll just dress like one! I am descended from knights of the Maltese Cross but the only sword I use is the one I was born with and then I supplement it by being a cunning linguist. I don’t play chess but knights can beat a queen by making the leaps they don’t expect. Queens are powerful but the game isn’t over until the king is mated or stalemated, either way. While the King still moves, the game is still afoot! Savile Row loves me in a cape and no one has actually seen me in London looking my best. Just wait! I have Stephane to thank; and clothes don’t make the man, but they definitely help one succeed when one might otherwise fail. Merci beaucoup pour tous et vous, Stephane et New & Lingwood!

Lovely garments, but patchy quality control, and poor-ish customer service. Have been getting things from here on and off for a few years. The designs are always good fun and the shop itself is lovely. However on a couple of occasions I've had to return things, and have always found the back of house customer service people hard to deal with. Once a shirt was incorrectly labelled, so when following the care instructions it shrunk. The rep didn't believe me until seeing the incorrect label herself, and then conceded tit was wrong. Once a pair of shoes were constructed without an appropriate amount of welt, and when sent back for re-soling came back a size smaller to accommodate this, I assume in store staff have a commission payment, as they seem openly disappointed when I am only after a small item. Has gone from a place where I get the occasional treat item (pair of shoes, nice shirt) to somewhere I get funny wedding socks.

The best service and luxury mens clothing products out there, an absolute must visit for any menswear enthusiast!

I was very upset with them, as they did a very shoddy job in an alteration. Instead of making it right on their time they charged me for their error. Will never shop there again

Nicholas and his team are a pleasure to deal with. I’ve had some really good purchases from them, sometimes knowing exactly what I want when I haven’t even realised myself! Knowledge of fabrics and tailoring is exceptional. A no pressure to purchase environment unlike other high end tailors in the area. Would highly recommend!

Fabulous products and exceptional quality, I have been a customer for some years now and the detail is excellent. The only minor room for improvement is communication and call back could be better. Over all happy to recommend and give five star rating

Will never ever buy from them again. Poor quality products and worst possible customer service.

Yelp
Ordered on line. Needed to return the item. Directions for how to return using DHL were wrong. Had to find my own way to get it to DHL. Then they never refunded me. I questioned the delay and they said they left out a step in the process. Really? They don't know how to issue a return successfully? Still haven't seen the refund!

Yelp
One of the best of the tradition mens outfitters on Jermyn street. A good range of shirts, but also good quality coats, jackets and accessories. Upstairs is one of the better classic mens shoe shops on the street. Buy one of the umbrellas for £40 and don't leave it on the tube!

Yelp
New & Lingwood make some of the best traditional English shirts available. While not as well known as Turnbull & Asser, I almost prefer them- the material is 100% Egyptian cotton and they are oh so comfortable.

Yelp
The gents who run this shop have as colourful characters as the garments they sell and that's what makes it so particularly pleasing. They always have a very distinctive and beautiful window display which changes with the seasons. I would go so far as to call it a spectacle in fact! They offer the best range of gent's coats in London by far, of all sorts - I particularly recommend their reversible raincoats, I get praise every time i wear mine and rainy days are now much anticipated! Of the many shops of Jermyn street, I've always found they have the finest selection of shirts, accounting both cloth and fit. Of course they also sell the now elusive detachable stiff collar. Such a rarity that even competing shirt makers will send you there to purchase one! Alterations are taken care of speedily which means you can get garments that fit perfectly in a matter of days. Wonderful selection of flannel trousers, although a little disappointed they no longer sell casual high waisted trousers there - I get the feeling they've bent over to trends on that one. Of course you couldn't mention New & Lingwood without mention of Michael Howlett whom I was sad to learn passed on. What a memorable character, with his distinctive cross-bone ties and black suede boots. He once had a magnificent double breasted suit entirely re-cut to fit for me, an absolute master's work. It still competes with my finest bespoke whistles! Always a pleasure visiting this place - to be treasured.
