The Best Empanadas In NYC - New York - The Infatuation
"You can satisfy a wide variety of cravings at this busy Colombian bakery in Sunnyside, where the walls are decorated with colorful caricatures of fútbol stars like Carlos Valderrama and René Higuita. But we especially love their empanadas. The pollo filling is unusually soft, with the texture of mashed potatoes and the flavor of chicken soup. Get there early in case they sell out." - will hartman, willa moore, molly fitzpatrick, monica prestia

New Chipichape Bakery - Review - Sunnyside - New York - The Infatuation
"If there’s a particular Colombian pastry you have your heart set on, get to New Chipichape early—otherwise they might sell out. You can satisfy a wide variety of cravings at this busy bakery in Sunnyside (around the corner from Parador Caleño), where the walls are decorated with colorful caricatures of fútbol stars like Carlos Valderrama and René Higuita. Your options include pandebono, arepas de choclo, cookies, morcilla, and birthday party-ready frosted cakes, as well as soups and more substantial hot dishes. But we especially love their crispy, crunchy empanadas.

Empanada De Pollo
They have beef empanadas too, but the chicken filling in particular is unusually soft, with the texture of mashed potatoes and the flavor of chicken soup.

Papa Rellena
The well seasoned, satisfying papa rellena, a substantial potato croquette filled with meat, rice, and egg, is also a treat." - Molly Fitzpatrick
It was such a pleasure walking to the New Chipichape Bakery & Restaurant and see their new entire place well wall decorated, seating section very comfortable & colorful to blend with their interior decor.
Not only that but being greeted with a friendly, smile staff ready to take your order. Their típico Colombian menú excellent as well as their bakery selection.
Delicious Empanadas alongside with coffee and enjoying their Colombian music
that brought me lots of great memories.
Highly recommend this Bakery & Restaurant.

I tried to order a cheese arepa here because it was on their sign outside. I don’t speak spanish so I don’t know if the waitress didn’t understand arepa but she told me they don’t have it.

Have come here a few times and was mostly ok but today I was disappointed with the staff. I looked around and counter woman (light complexion) kept scoffing because my kids had not decided what they wanted. Another counter woman (darker complexion) took my order but she failed to warm up my arepa. Fine. Its cold it might not be warm by the time i arrive home but everywhere else I go they at least ask me if I want it warmed up. When i signed my bill, the previous counter woman (she is lighter in skin complexion) peeked at what I was writing and when she saw I did not write in tip she rolled her eyes, scoffed and a loud "ugh". The second counter woman ( a little darker complexion) was very nice and smiled theoughtout the whole interaction. I only give cash tips but the lighter complexion lady with her eye rolling ultimately ruined the whole experience.
We tried the cookies, they were a bit crunchy, I was expecting softer.
Empanadas - average
Arepa - average (that's only average because I heated it at home to melt the cheese.)
Thanks but I wont be seeing you soon. Will search for a more welcoming customer oriented establishment for the time being.

This place is elegant with an awesome vibe. I went for breakfast and the food was amazing. The service was speedy and friendly. Coming back from work late I was surprised they were still open. I ended up going in a getting a beautifully seasoned Lechon dish. The staff does an amazing job of describing anything on the menu. They made me feel welcomed and gave me a great experience.

$15 for a lunch (rice, beans, some stewed meat) and a soup. Really delicious!! Their baked goods are also top notch there, especially the almojabana and pan de bono. If you speak some Spanish, it will come in handy here, but they're friendly and patient!

I love Colombian breads. I got 2 different pan de queso, a bunuelo and a guava cheese bread. The workers were very friendly and the breads were all fresh! I've been to a couple Colombian bakeries and the bunuelo especially is stale and old but there's was fresh! Recommended going here for the mom and pop feel!
