Google
By far one of my favorite dim sum spots. Extremely affordable. Service is always great, they remember my husband and I even if we hadn’t been there in months. I always rave about their Peking Duck! Personal opinion I think it’s the best around. I haven’t tried any that top it. Everything you see in our photos came to $80. I dine out a lot and to me that’s a steal!

Google
Food was delicious and quite authentic. Reminded me of the 14 years I spent in China and made me feel like I was "home". Really happy with the service, had great conversations with the owner / boss. Prices were quite reasonable. We really had a great time and enjoyed the food and conversation we had.

Google
First time being here heard good things about it. The food was really good, I think much better than Imperial Gardens noodles were good. The dim sums hands down really delicious the only thing I say about a lot of these Chinese restaurants they should stop putting celery in the dishes that’s not supposed to have it. It’s just a filler no need for it if it wasn’t for that would’ve been a 5 star for sure. Service was pretty good amount of food is great for the cost.

Google
The food is very good. If you like S.F Chinese style food and was a fan of Hunan the was in Fresno, try this place. You will not be disappointed. Can't wait to go back.

Google
Actually if it’s possible, I would rate New City Chinese Cuisine a 4.5 star. Their food is good, not salty or greasy (like a lot of chinese restaurants do). Taste of the food can be hit-or-miss, I’d say 80% of dishes I tried tastes EXCELLENT, the remaining 20% of dishes are not my taste, but please note that it doesn’t mean the dishes are bad, just not to my personal taste. The interior of the restaurant seems a little out-dated, but it is kept fairly clean and neat considering that it’s an older building. The service at New City is great! They are always so busy but they keep a keen eye for all their customer and will tend to your needs if you need any. It’d be more welcoming if they can greet with more smiles. I have no complaint about their service but it could be better.

Google
Best Dim Sum ever! I travel 1:30hr to go eat here! So worth the travel and always leave with extra pork buns.

Mark Boucher

Google
An excellent dim sum place that serves all the classics and more. I highly recommend the har gow, stir fried sticky rice, pot stickers, and pork buns. We will definitely return.

Google
The food is 100% delicious! I was recently introduced to this restaurant by a family member. Everything we have ordered so far has been amazing. I will say the wait times are extremely long though as far as take out goes. I recommend calling in your order and if they say 30mins give them at least an hour because they get a lot of Togo orders. Or you could go in and order then run a few errands and come back. Trust me, it is well worth the wait.

Yelp
We ordered takeout this time, but we normally dine in. Ordering was easy and we didn't have to wait much longer than we would have if we'd ordered in the restaurant. The food was all packaged very neatly and of course, tasted amazing! My only critique this time is that neither of the main dishes were very crispy. We ordered dim sum items and orange chicken and sweet and sour pork. We'll be back!

Yelp
I eat here periodically over the years and the servers have not changed. This is why I am disappointed. I sat and requested a dim sum menu. The head server recognized me and asked if I would have my usual (even though I don't come that often), and that made me feel welcomed--- but that's where it stopped. The shumai was tainted and I immediately felt sick. Suddenly, the server could not communi

Laura G.

Yelp
Poor service. Went into the restaurant to order take out, waited more than 20 minutes. I finally went to go check and my order was sitting on the table for a five minutes. Then to find out he didn't get my order right. So now I had to wait an additional 10 minutes. For my wait I asked for a soda on the house. Got home and seen that I paid $18 for vegetables with shrimp not worth the price. Where's the rest of it? No broccoli and very little cabbage, carrots.

Yelp
I came here for dim sum / lunch on new years days. The restaurant was super packed!!! Every time I've driven by here it hasn't looked that busy, but it was so busy on new years day. They seated us pretty quickly even though they were packed, they did warn us it would take about 20 min for the food to come out because they were so busy but we had no problems waiting that long. We ordered many items from the menu, beef rice roll, egg on top of beef chow fun with gai lan ,siu mai ( beef dumpling ) , tripe, hau gau ( shrimp dumpling ) , hong shau rou ( shanghai braised pork belly) . The beef rice noodle came out first and it was so delicious and such a large portion!! If I had known the food was going to be such large portions we would have ordered less. The siu mai and har gow were also huge. The steamed tripe was so fresh and soft. I also really enjoyed the beef chow fun with the egg on top. It was very tasty and the egg was smooth and savory. We really enjoyed our meal and cannot wait to come back.

Yelp
My go-to spot for dim sum. I usually go shortly after opening at 10:30 so it's pretty easy to snag a table. But it usually gets moderately busy by noon. There are tables for both smaller and large parties. The service is prompt. They have a decent dim sum menu and also have another extensive menu for larger plates. My sister and I usually split 4-5 dim sum plates and end up spending about $25 each (with tip). Our favorites are the harkow, siu mai, fried shrimp balls fried sticky rice and pork belly. Everything is served fresh and hot. It's always a satisfying meal.

Yelp
Craving some dim sum for the new Lunar Year that just passed on Wednesday, Year of the Snake 2025! Ordered to go since there's been a bug going around lately. I usually go to Imperial Garden but there was a convenient online ordering I used to order for my parents. My mom said it was just as good as any dim sum restaurant here in Fresno. She really liked the hot and sour soup because there's more ingredients inside the soup. I had to order myself some dim sum also but it was so busy that I couldn't order the same items as I did for my parents. It's that busy so the food has good traffic flow. I ate there once a while ago and they have the large round family size tables with the spinning lazy Susan in the middle. Dim sum for the new year is always a must for our cultural celebrations to bring on luck, wealth and prosperity.

Yelp
We tried as much as we possibly could off of the dim sum menu. Favorites were the soup dumpling, noodle rolls, pork belly, deep fried Shrimp rolls and the salt and pepper Shrimp. The combo chop suey Chow mein was also flavorful. You know the food is going to be good when they have the large tables with the lazy Suzanne in the middle and traditional Chinese decor. We went on valentines day and despite how busy they were we still received excellent service. New city Chinese is definitely worth trying and after years of wanting to go I'm glad I finally did.

Yelp
The CHINISE food here is AMAZING compared to the bay area. Portions and size of dim sum are HUGE. Everything tastes great. Such a large selection that you can try something new every time. There's a mistake in DoorDash tho. Their half order and full order duck is same price. I ordered Duck meal - bomb so gooood Shu Mai - pork dumplings HUGE and flavorful Har Kow - shrimp dumplings, must eat as don't taste good next day Fried rice - good can't fail this Run don't walk! No pics because my fat self ate it all before i could remember!

Yelp
Had a nice Dim Sum brunch on a Saturday morning in November. We arrived just as they were opening and there were a few other people seated but as we got closer to noon-it started to fill up. This is definitely a local favorite. We had 3 dim sum dishes, all good, but my favorite was the potstickers. I'd like a few other of their dumplings next time. The pork bun wasn't my fav but Ben enjoyed it and said it tasted like most bbq pork baos. Very friendly service. The dining room is large and has a very elegant, large party vibe. I'd love to bring a big group here to celebrate.

Zeb K.

Yelp
We had a big party and they easily accommodateed us with a same-day reservation. We sat in two big tables but they were right next to each other. This was greatly appreciated. The crispy beef was disappointing because there was too much sauce. While it was tasty, it was very soggy. The shrimp dumplings had a lot of shrimp. I was surprised it was more shrimp than just wrapper. The salt and pepper squid/calamari was crispy. It was so yummy. I would come back just for this. The surprise dish was the sticky fried rice. It tasted as good as it looked. My niece stopped eating the regular fried rice ordered for her and ate just about all of this one instead. It was the highlight of our dinner. I would definitely come back to try other dishes. I would reorder the salt and pepper squid and sticky fried rice.

Yelp
We came here because we heard they changed of chef and ownership's. Man, the food is amazing, the amount of food is sufficient. The restaurant is nice and big, it's a little of out dated but it's still good. Highly recommended

Yelp
We love to eat soup during the cold winter season. There is just something about the warm, flavorful taste of the soup. For the first time I ordered the War (sp) Wonton Soup from New City Chinese Restaurant. Restaurants usually have a unique interpretation of soups you order. This restaurant version of the soup was very hardy. Lots of shrimp, chicken and multiple vegetables. The broth was rich, tasty and strong. It fit with the restaurants version of the War Wonton Soup. It's a very filling soup. It really took the chill out of a cold evening. Yum!

Yelp
The Chinese food and dim sum are solid! Service is always good and friendly . Ambiance is what you'd expect from the outside looking in I would regular this place despite living a-ways from this neighborhood I recommend!!!
google avatar

Clarissa B.

Yelp
The food here is always good. My regular order whenever I'm in Fresno is: Shanghai dumplings (2 orders with a side of red vinegar), 1 order steamed bbq pork baos, 1 order egg custard baos. I first ate here during undergrad and for the next 5 years. Love it!

Yelp
Really enjoyed Sunday dim sum. We tried a variety of dishes, and everything was spot on. Service was exactly what I want at a place like this, the food was delicious, and the temperature inside was comfortable. I could be wrong, of course, but I also got the impression that everything was made in-house. It's quite common for places like this to outsource their prep or even just buy frozen stuff. We'll definitely be back, perhaps again for dim sum, or maybe to try their other dishes.

Yelp
We decided to try New City as one of our new restaurant spots, and it is VERY satisfying in so many ways! They share a parking lot with red lobster, so at first, when we pulled in, we were a bit hesitant because it looked busy. When we walked in, we were greeted and sat immediately. They have many seats available and large tables for parties. They handed us multiple menus to look through. The dim sum menu was easy to read and view. The menu is very big with a wide selection to choose from. I ended up getting the #1 lunch specials with pork chow mein, pork fried rice, 3 chicken wings, and an eggroll. The meal also came with my choice of soup. When the food arrived, it was piping hot with steam still coming violently off the plate. I absolutely LOVED that freshness! Everything was so delicious and flavorful. Portion sizes are large, and prices are good! I'd love to come back and try their dim sum! It's worth the stop and every penny!

Yelp
Dim sum and service here equally are pretty good. I went here with family to get some dim sum on a Wednesday and it was not too busy and we were sat at the usual table that my grandparents usually sit when they frequent this place. The servers made sure to take extra consideration of my grandparents' usual requests including very hot tea and piping hot food, which in a lot of places they equally frequent, do not really care that much or go above and beyond to deliver it consistently. This marks good service which is a cherry on top for these type of places. As for the food, the dim sum here is probably the best in the area of Clovis/Fresno. It is definitely still superior to Seattle dim sum (like ???) but not as good as a handful in Los Angeles / Richmond, BC. Nonetheless, the rice noodle rolls are fairly solid, albeit the filling is a bit on the smaller end. The siu mai and the bean curd rolls have generous amounts of filling and sizable for the order. The chicken feet here is fairly solid, but there were only 3 pieces. I guess quality over quantity. The har gow is fairly okay and I am a little disappointed I haven't had a good har gow in any of the dim sum places here. We also ordered some entrees like spicy lamb which is quite spicy (not the numbing kind) and what's great is they gave us some spicy noodle appetizer that has a slight numbing spicy complimentary to the order. We also got the wet beef noodles which is a crowd pleaser. All the meat (spicy lamb, the beef inside the noodle dish) are fairly easy to chew and they put in generous amounts of them into the order.

Yelp
The service here is great! The ambiance is nice and cozy for all groups. The food a different than typical American style Chinese cuisine

Yelp
New City Chinese Cuisine is one of the top Chinese spots in town. They have large space that can accommodate large parties. They have dim sum options as well. For the food: Start the meal with hot bowl of Chinese soup. The winter melon seafood soup comes piping hot - add plenty of white pepper to this classic soup. The steamed chicken with soy sauce tender, juicy and fragrant. The green bean with XO sauce is tasty - even when requesting less salt and oil.

Fredo L.

Yelp
Service an food is upstanding the rice an sweet sour pork was on point love it recommended this dish
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
They put seafood in a dish without listing it on the dish. Very dangerous for those with shellfish allergies.

Yelp
Came here for dim sum. My expectations were met with the food and service. The venue was nice and clean. Tried the shrimp balls, chicken feet,01 sticky rice, turnip cake, spare ribs, shu mai, and more. Everything tasted good. The only thing that was a little different was the turnip cake. They're usually more crispy; this time it was more on the mushy and fluffy side. Plenty of parking on their free lot.

Yelp
We have enjoyed this restaurant many times. Their salt and pepper wings are the best i have found, my wife's go to is the eggplant shrimp, with a nice mix of sweet and spice - the eggplant is tender and flavorful in the sauce; i love the Mongolian chicken with large chunks of tender chicken breast and a not overdone with too many veggies. I recommend as a nice take away restaurant (we have never eaten in and have never tried what their speciality appears to be which is dim sum).
google avatar

Jun a.

Yelp
Ordered Siu Mai and Beef Noodle, food was ok though it needs improvement on the noodle dish. Beef was not the usual braised beef i usually get from other similar restaurants, the flavor was a little bland, the noodle itself was not that great. Siu mai can be better. The service was good. Didnt get the chance to snap some pics as i am rushing to go back to work

Yelp
The carpet in the restaurant did through me off for a second. But they do have Authentic dimsum. They even had duck tongue. Everything tasted good and we cleaned our plates. Very welcoming staff. Will definitely be back when in town.

Yelp
Food was great. Service was great, although we had a party of 20+. Amazing. Checked on us very often. Very spacious. We ended up getting 3 big tables in the back for our Dad's 75th birthday. You have to try everything. My favorite was the pork belly and the eggplant and beef. Everything else was still amazing. Left full with a lot of leftovers :)

Yelp
Make sure you NEVER go here on any Chinese holidays. They're open, but it would be jam pack with ppl. Otherwise, it's fine.
google avatar

Ian M.

Yelp
Let me preface by saying I don't eat dim sum often. This is only my second or third time. I was brought here as a guest with my uncle and his partner who is Chinese and who did all the ordering for us. We got like 8 or 10 dishes for four of us, and we finished almost all of the food. Every dish was delicious, from the porridge to the spicy lamb. I didn't interact with the servers or anyone else really. We stayed for a long time enjoying our meal and chatting. Loved it and hope to return.

Yelp
Food is great. Their steamed fish w/soy sauce is always my favorite.dim sum is always a treat. Service is always pleasant.Ambiance, friendly people.

Yelp
Honestly, IF I could choose one, and ONLY one, restaurant to eat out at in Fresno, this would be it! The type of selections possible, the bounty of veggies, the portion sizes and the value are unmatched. And the food is mostly excellent! The service is great, it's quiet and roomy enough that you're not feeling like you're breathing direct fumeage from others nearby. You can actually enjoy other's company here, have a conversation without TVs or music blaring! WAY important to me. Every meal I get here is balance with a ton of fiber in it. My plates are like 80% vegetables which is EXACTLY how I mostly choose to be eating. It's nice eating meals that you know aren't affecting your health in terrible ways that do accumulate over time. Perfect for workout days or recovery, the menu here is so varied that one can never get sick of it. My only wish here is that they'd offer a brown rice option. Old or New, this IS the City I most like eating at! -G

Yelp
Why is the second time not as good as the first time?Tell me why? Tell me why? I was looking forward to their specials on the board. But half of the things were fading. I could only make out the pork belly with taro. That is what i ordered. Pretty presentation. Surprised it came with bok choy. The taro melts in your mouth. They might have braised it for a while. Generous portion. We got three dim sum dishes for dinner. All piping hot. Chicken feet, a tiny spicy tripe, and bean curd wrapped veggies. All our dishes were super sweet. Stop using so much sugar in your dishes. Except plain old boiled chicken. Wong fay gai. Great ginger sauce, chopped to the smithereens. We ordered snow peas, but they weren't in season, so we got gai lan as substitute. It was so fresh and crunchy. Why does central valley have the best veggies. This dish came with chinese sausage and dried meat. It was delish. I got my veggie fix. Great service. For all that food, it was under $90! Great on the pocket book.

Yelp
Hot and sour soup was very good. Broccoli beef was just okay. They were very nice and allowed me to order the lunch portion though it was slightly past 3 pm. The owner seemed very nice.

Yelp
I tried New City again after a long absence. I was a frequent customer before and a little after the pandemic started. The owners sold their restaurant at this time. The new owners' food wasn't as good as the previous owners. Yesterday, I decided to give them another chance. It is apparent that ownership has changed once again as there are different employees, and they have new colorful takeout menus. The menus appear to have many new items available, with many seafood items. They still have a "Chinese" and "Americanized Chinese" menu. My Hot and Sour soup tasted exactly like I experienced in the old days. My Shrimp with Mixed vegetables combination had great flavor and texture. Overall, I was very pleased with my food and experience. I will return very shortly to try other menu items!

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised about dim sum quality in Fresno. Most dishes were except for two: the shrimp rice noodle which was very nicely done aside from too few shrimp. The steamed Cha siu bao was not enough fluffy dough as other places and the meat was a bit tough. Other than these two, everything else great. Shrimp dumplings, chive shrimp dumplings, siu mai, egg yolk "running sand" bao, sticky fried rice. Very friendly and attentive staff. Price is decent/higher end for the area but maybe because there are few dim sum places. Look forward to coming back to try their dishes.

Yelp
Great fast service and huge delicious portions always make this place a great lunch or dinner or dim sum on weekends!

Although never dined here before, i did pick up and delivery thru uber eats. From my experience, Nice ambiance, food was great. Customer service was good.

Yelp
Pros: Food. Ordered an array of dim sum; fried chicken wings, siu mai, steamed pork buns, steamed egg tart buns, sesame balls, fried shrimp dumplings, potstickers, duck etc. I can't remember it all Menu item : beef and broccoli Birthday dessert: coconut taro gelatin (cold) Service: fast because it was slow in the restaurant@ 2pm on a Saturday. I personally enjoyed all the food and would eat here again. The Duck was especially tender and skin was crispy! Con: table side manner from one waitress was not as friendly as others, but she literally was trying to get the order and move on. My husband did not think she was rude. It's all in perspective. Ambiance: Dingy and old looking. There needed to be air circulation because it was stagnant and warm. Extra: plenty of parking all around the restaurant. Check off paper menu for dim sum so you can mark off what you want before the waiter/waitress comes.

Yelp
Family had an amazing first experience. From the Flower tea to the Singapore Noodles to the Shrimp Dumplings, everything was a treat. Everything was served hot, and the staff was attentive. We were fortunate to dine on the Winter Solstice, so the atmosphere was celebratory. We'll definitely return, and just may have found our local favorite restaurant.

Amber H.

Yelp
I was very excited for Chinese food. The restaurant was promising but the experience wasn't great. It was busy so the wait on the food was long. The food was only okay. The waiter was nice. Probably won't be back.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try dim sum and took on A LOT of recommendations and set my sights on New City. My mom and sister enjoyed it, my daughter loved the chicken salad, the pork buns were so sweet and delicate! The egg rolls were so crispy even when they had sat around the table for a long while. The shu mai was hearty and flavorful, and the potstickers were crispy and nicely filled. The only thing I didn't really enjoy were the shrimp dumplings because there was no flavor or seasoning, the only sauce offered was a very spicy chili oil so I wish there was something else offered with that. The taro dumplings were highly recommended and had a great crumbly outer texture, really amazing filling and such a delight to try. The prices are very reasonable for the amount of food and everything ordered looked as pictured which was so helpful. I do have other things I'd love to come back and try so this was a great first experience!

Raymond A.

Yelp
I will keep this simple . Worst food I have ever eaten in my life time. Both co workers had same food pork looked spoiled. Tasted way too off also for flavor. Just look at pics. One co worker got Mongolian and ended up with bubble guts!!!! Me I'm glad I didn't eat all the food. Chicken wings I ordered looked raw and tasted like either re warmed up in old frying oil. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

Ray L.

Yelp
Best dim sum and Cantonese cuisine in Fresno. On par with San Francisco and San Gabriel valley in So Cal. Prices are very reasonable and nice sized portions. Martin the manager is nice and helpful in putting together an order. He has your best interest in mind and won't upsell. favorite dim sum here are the har gow, siu mai, beef meatballs with cilantro, beef chow fun (dry fried) and for dinner the peking pork chops are my faves

ML L.

Yelp
Solid Cantonese cuisine, order three basic dishes. Each executed to near perfection, excellent "wok hey". Recommending highly. Didn't have opportunity to try out their dim sum since it was late at night close to their closing time, looking forward to trying that portion of their menu. Service was also excellent. Oh, bang for the buck was also high, hearty portions for pretty low prices.

Isabella Z.

Yelp
The food is amazing for the price, over all good place to just eat with a loved one. The orange chicken is so juicy and the shi mi (I don't know how to spell it) was big along with the buns. Over all if you want good food just come here and they treat you very nicely. Yes it's pricy, but it's very worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent. The turnip cakes were crispy, rice rolls were steamed softly. The Hunan lamb was spicy to the right degree. Friendly service, comfortable, family environment.

Adriane L.

Yelp
Mom loves the ginger scallops fish fillet dish and the grilled Taro cakes . We also like the Tofu Fillet Clay Pot dish and tomato Chicken Curry Chow Mein , the fried Pork Dumpling and Chicken Chow Fun dried cooked very very tasty they give good portions on the dishes. The service is great and location is great too! Half a mile from California State University Fresno

Cheri S.

Yelp
We ordered the Crispy Beef to go and it was absolutely mushy and really not good. We threw it away, and I called to complain. I was told that I would be able to get a replacement for free, but to ask for the sauce on the side. When we went to go pick it up this morning, after verifying that it would be a free replacement, we were told the owner said no. They only offered $3 off a $17.99 item that we didn't even eat. They do not honor their word, and I'm not sure I want to even order from there again.

Yelp
I came here on a Monday afternoon, after 4 pm to pick up dim sum to go. Plenty of parking and next to Red Lobster. The young woman who helped me was so friendly and patient. I ordered shui mai (4 pieces), chicken with rice wrapped in lotus leaves (2 per order), Chinese broccoli and seaweed salad. Took about 20 minutes. Make sure to check your bag for utensils and sauces (i had to ask since I am staying in a hotel). I loved everything. Shui Mai is probably the best I've eaten and I've eaten dim sum all over the US. Full of flavor, pork and well balanced. The chicken with rice also was delicious - fluffy rice with chicken, Chinese sausage and well flavored. Seaweed salad was cold and crisp. Chinese broccoli was a bit overdone but was still delicious. Very happy with the customer service and food. Definitely recommend and will return!
