Exhausted after a loooong night shift at work, I went to the Hudson location yesterday for a latte. I was looking to support a smaller business rather than hit up the Starbucks down the road. I got the newtella Latte. It was honestly the worst latte I have had in many, many years. Like spectacularly bad.
I strongly recommend the management taste it and make adjustments. It had absolutely no flavor at all besides bitter coffee and rancid coffee bean oil. I think it is just a glop of actual nutella in the bottom of the cup, but that just isn't enough flavor. I stirred it, put in additional sugar packets, it was just unsavable. On top of that, the espresso was bitter and acrid. Tasted like the machine desperately needed to be cleaned and adjusted. The only positive I can say is that the milk was well frothed. Thick and frothy without being scalded, so I don't think it was was the baristas fault, I think it was a combo of the recipe and the espresso machine.
Service was pretty meh as well. I waited in the main ice cream line, and asked what was in the newtella latte, and was told I was in the wrong line and that they didn't know. Acted irritated with my stupidity that I didn't know it was the wrong line. I changed lines to the coffee line, and asked again, again a shrug was my answer. I said "well I guess I will give it a try". On the menu it was labeled as $6. The cashier wrung it up and it was just short of $9 for one latte. I was surprised, and said "$9 dollars?" Again, irritated "yes". So I paid the $9 thinking, at the same price as JP Licks espresso Frappe, its probably pretty great. Then I took a sip...
Next time, sadly to Starbucks I go.
