The 20 Best Restaurants In Amsterdam 2024

"If you’re gearing up for a heavy day of biking and need a good source of fuel, come to New Draver and order a plate. While you can still get the usual nasi, bami, and roti, the best stuff from the constantly-changing Surinamese menu are the Creole dishes they specialize in. The moksi alesi, or“mixed rice,” is a favorite with meat and sometimes beans, while the Surinamese national dish of pom is a slightly sweet casserole of grated pomtajer, a root crop, mixed with chunks of chicken. If this is actually the end of your bike route, get a shot of their liquors infused with a house blend of spices to help you digest." - paolo espanola

When in Amsterdam you have to have Surinamese food. We had roti here, and it was incredibly flavourful, authentic, and delicious. Beyond the great taste, the service was excellent; the staff were so friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was also perfect, really adding to the whole dining experience. If you're looking for delicious Surinamese food with friendly service and a great vibe, this is definitely the place to go!

People are really nice and feels like a down to earth non hipsters/gentrified. Serves mainly as a gathering place for the Surinamese community but everybody is welcome to try their delicious home made food.

Food is really good. Real Surinamese home cooked food. The atmosphere and the overall look of the restaurant were less impressive. Service is good but not as professional I would like to have seen in a restaurant. The restaurant has real potential to be a real restaurant if this family-owned business stepped their game up. The only dish that really disappointed was the Fiadoe cake. Tasted nothing like the real deal.

I passed it a few times before I decided to give it a try. The reviews were mostly positive. Well, after eating fast food and food on the go while traveling, this was exactly what I needed. A home cooked meal!! I looked up the country, as I wasn't familiar. The pictures all looked good. And it was! Small local, mom and pop restaurant serving delicious food. The young lady there helped me with the menu and I ended up getting a delicious stewed BBQ pork dish, white rice, shredded green beans and sweet plantains! I'm incredibly satisfied. 😋

Delicious Surinamese cuisine, tasty and fresh food served quickly, satisfying plate size, ability to share your food with friends. The atmosphere is really friendly and familial. Highly recommend, give it a try!

Real Surinaamse homemade food restaurant. It's so good that all the Surinaamse people I know come here! It's maybe a bit pricier. But that's because it's made with love and it's so worth it! Here is no place like this! Strongly recommend it here! Staff is also very friendly and the menu is mostly different everyday! Unfortunately no pictures of the delicious food because I always it so fast! But I'll try to update next time I'll get my food there and do remember it.

Google
First time eating Surinamese food so I have no reference but I was very happy that this was the place I tried it. Family restaurant with very kind staff who helped my friend and I choose things since we didn’t speak Dutch and had never heard of anything on the menu. Menu changes daily and it seems everything is fresh depending on what is available. Service was a bit slow but nothing too bad. Food was fantastic, we really regret coming here on our last day because we would have been back if we had more time. I got a rice with dried fish and my friend got noodles with chicken. Both flavorful, not greasy or over spiced. Very much recommend

I ordered a dish of fried rice with a roasted chicken quarter on top. The rice was really, really good. Loaded with veggies and had a light consistency and a wonderful flavor. It tasted very fresh. The chicken was baked almost to the point of fall of the bone. Flavor was that of baked chicken, though good baked chicken. The side of homemade hot sauce was awesome and I used every last bit of it. The reason for 4 stars is because I ordered a campari and soda with a splash of soda. I was charged for the campari, and the sprite, and the soda, all separately. This is a very small, authentic restaurant so maybe I'm being petty about the drink. Otherwise this place is first rate!

Yelp
Food was good, but the owner/manager took advantage of the fact that we were tourists and didn't know much about Surinamese food, so asked us if we "trusted her" to pick the food. No prices were listed. We ended up with a lot of food but our bill for 3 was 150€. Completely unjustified for a local hole-in-the-wall place. Beware

Yelp
Amazing and delicious. Food for the soul at its best. Amazing crowd and down home vibes. Can't wait to visit again.

Yelp
This is hole in the wall, local place. But their food is spot on. I had the chicken roti, and it was perfectly seasoned. The sauce was excellent, and the hot sauce (on the side) was divine. Just be aware that no one here speaks English, so brush up on your Dutch.

Yelp
This is a very good restaurant that is in a great location. The food was very tasty and delicious. I got green curry chicken and rotini, Which was really good. The bartender was very friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend this place you want an authentic Caribbean experience.

Yelp
Rudd Gullit has been known to frequent this place, and there's a bronze-coloured bust of him in the front part of the restaurant to prove his connection to this place. Rumour is that he might even own the joint but I don't mind. The place is about Surinaam food, not the mildly toxic Chinese-style sort of grub found everywhere in Amsterdam, but more the original South American sort of cooking - basically, the real stuff. It's not a big restaurant, and the wines are rather naff but the food is really quite tolerable and very cheap for Amsterdam. For less than 30 Euro, the two of us had beers, a huge soup, followed by a large plate of herbed chicken in some sort of Surinaam curry sauce and rice. The taste is rather different, mainly because they replaced potatoes with cassava and they also used some herbs which I can't quite place. Overall, it was a good dinner and the only downside is their rather liberal use of monosodium glutamate to season up their dishes, a habit also rather too common with other non-European kitchens in this town. The ambience isn't too fancy, just a simple restaurant which has (polite) children running about the old tables and chairs, with nice friendly service and the added thrill of the chance to bump into Rudd himself one day.
