Had dinner here and was pleasantly surprised! Started with the papri chaat which was perfectly tangy with just the right balance of flavors. For the entrée, I tried the paneer tikka masala with onion naan it was absolutely delicious! It was not Indian spicy level but still yummy and flavorful. Went in with low expectations but left full and very happy. Definitely worth a visit!

I aggressively recommend, if you ever want anyone to try Indian food for the first time take them here. They won't disappoint.

I was looking for some flavorful food because I was struggling to eat the past days. Their food was so good, I had chicken tikka masala, and I ate it until I was stuffed and then took some leftovers home. The naan with pistachios and coconut is delicious.

Their Tandoori Spicy Chicken 🍗 absolutely 💯 slaps! It may be the best chicken I’ve ever eaten! Excellent service! Warm & welcoming atmosphere! Ordered storefront customer pickup but will absolutely be returning to dine in! 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND🔥🤙🏾

Consistently excellent. Been coming here since they opened. Their menu is expansive and cooked to order. It’s always piping hot and big portions. The rice pudding deserves special mention. Friendly helpful staff & quick service. The dining room is small but cozy. Street parking but I’ve never had trouble getting a spot. New Era just keeps getting better. It’s my go-to. Always.

Had a great lunch here today, ordering the garlic naan and shrimp with curry. The naan is no joke. Light, flavorful and great and spooning up the curry. The curry wasn’t too spicy (I went medium) and there were plenty of shrimp in the dish! Awesome lunch, thank you!

I originally ordered my food to go, but after seeing the atmosphere I decided to stay and eat in. I’m glad I did—the food was absolutely amazing! Every bite was full of rich flavor and perfectly prepared. I’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for authentic, delicious Indian cuisine.

Great food every time, friendly staff, always hot and fresh. No complaints. I recommend the butter chicken, chili fish, chili chicken, garlic naan, and mango lassi.

I want to love this place, but the food is only ok and I have never had much success with timely takeout or delivery. Tonight, it took over 2 hours to get food delivered, and I live about 5 minutes drive away from the restaurant. Their online ordering system does not provide any order confirmations or updates, so you're left in the dark about whether or not your order even made it to the restaurant or when to expect your food. Not the place to go to if you're hungry and want food in a predictable or reasonable time frame.

Out of all the Indian food spots in the area, this one is by far the best--not just in my neighborhood but probably in all of Philadelphia. In my opinion, it even surpasses Tiffin (which isn't bad, but as a chain, it has a more limited menu). What makes this place stand out is how well they live up to their name, "New Era," by incorporating Indian culture into every dish while also offering something fresh and unique. Having visited both North and South India, I can say they've managed to honor traditional flavors while also catering to broader tastes in a way that feels rare and innovative. As a pescatarian who also eats lamb and turkey (but not beef, chicken, or pork), I'm thrilled by their variety of salmon and lamb dishes--something you don't often see, especially with salmon, which isn't as popular in India. The Salmon Kurma is one of my favorites, blending creamy and aromatic spices beautifully, and the Lamb Tikka Masala is just as impressive. They also offer a great range of naan and roti breads to pair with their dishes. For the quality of food, what you pay is worth every penny. While they're a fantastic option for dining in (the ambiance is quiet and a bit on the romantic lighting side), I often order and pick up, and the service is always excellent. This spot is a gem for Indian cuisine lovers, especially those looking for something beyond the usual offerings. Highly recommend!

Really good Indian food. The lamb biryani was exceptional, malai chicken was great so was the spicy naan. The staff are cordial and warm. Very welcoming, small restaurant but has on street and off street parking.

The food was delectable and even though I was picking up takeout, felt seen and heard.

I've never dined in, so I can't speak to the ambience, but all of the food that I've ever ordered has been very good. Our favorites are butter chicken, tikka masala, saag paneer and we've had a few of the salmon dishes too, and all of the naans are wonderful. To round out your meal- you've gotta try a mango lassi!

Had a taste for Indian food this past weekend and came across this place. I called and placed my order and headed there. The restaurant is under an apartment complex across from the R7 train station so don't drive too fast because you'll miss it. Parking, street and there was a sign pointing towards the parking lot of the apartment. Atmosphere, low light and cozy. Service, the gentleman was very nice. I found out that they deliver. Food: 1. Vegetable samosa and they were fried just right and were nice and crispy. 2. Lamb Tikka masala. The lamb was a little tender but lacked flavor. The masala sauce is what saved it. They gave about 6 chunks of lamb however I wish the lamb cuts were smaller so that I didn't have to take time to cut the pieces smaller. 3. Gulab jamun which were delicious! The balls were small though. They gave me so much sauce that I had plenty left after eating the balls. How I wish I had more balls. 4. Garlic Naan. You can't have masala without the Naan. It was soft, warm, garlicky and delicious. Overall, I enjoyed my meal and will definitely be returning to try something different. Enjoy!

I had the chicken vindaloo and it was delicious. The host was very kind and it was worth the wait. They have a nice selection of drinks and I would definitely come back just for the garlic naan. Perfect way to end a good hike!

Not sure why this place has such rave reviews. As an Indian this restaurant was a huge disappointment. Maybe we ordered wrong. But then again we ordered the basics of Indian cuisine. Yellow tadka Daal, butter chicken, chicken biryani. Now the yellow tadka daal, which is lentils is one of the easiest dishes to prepare, was lacking in flavour and the tadka (tempering) was absent. The butter chicken was decent, Americanised and on the sweeter side, also butter chicken is traditionally made with dark meat, this was white meat. Lastly for the biryani. Super disappointing, it was a very confused product of half cooked spices, under flavoured rice and overcooked pieces of chicken. This place maybe a good choice for people who don't know Indian cuisine is, but if you are an Indian/Pakistani or Desi, give this place a miss.

This place is run by some of the nicest people anywhere, so I don't love having to leave a less-than-stellar review, but I didn't enjoy my meal. With high expectations due to reviews here and on Google, and with a significant appetite, I ordered the veg curry, the chicken kabob appetizer, and a tandoori roti. I found the curry very oily and tomato-heavy, with vegetables that had a frozen texture (at least the cauliflower, carrots, and broccoli; probably not the peppers). As for the chicken, it was spiced in a way I found unbalanced (it seemed notably heavy on coriander). It's possible I ordered poorly and/or caught them on an off night. Also, almost everyone else has reviewed this place highly, so maybe just ignore me?

Unfortunately food quality here was not good. I am Indian myself and the food was filled with heavy cream. Chicken was dry. Lamb was undercooked. Dal was burnt and then cream was added to it. Bharta had cream as well in it which made it taste nothing like what a baingan bhartha is supposed. Indian food is supposed to be better than that. A lot better. Sadly I Would not recommend this place.

Delicious food and large portions! My friend and I came for lunch on a Monday and we ordered the chicken tikka masala and paneer vindaloo. So flavorful and the spice was just right. Also the service was great. Will be coming back!

I've eaten at so many Indian restaurants in the past 20+ years and I truly do not understand the positive reviews about this place. However, I felt like I needed to give a review so others will not get as disappointed as me. I ordered the mattar panner, samosa chaat, lamb korma, and saag. The mattar panner was very sweet, lacking flavor, and had a small amounts of peas. The samosa chaat tasted fine but nothing amazing. The lamb korma, like the mattar paneer was so sweet as well, lamb overcooked, and lacking flavor. Do not get medium spice as it is basically mild. The saag was average to below average. It is surprising that I didn't taste a lot of spices in any dish. Overall, all the dishes lacked flavor, heat and were too sweet.

This is THE BEST Indian food I've ever had, and I find it to be very affordable for the quality and quantity of the food, and it's always hot and tastes fresh. Staff is also always very friendly.

I saw this on yelp and decided to try it. I love it! It's down to earth, friendly, generous portions and delicious!! I went with my husband and adult child. We all loved it. Would definitely go again!

While visiting my daughter at her university we were looking for somewhere to eat. We searched Indian food and found New Era. It turned out to be an excellent choice! The restaurant itself was small and cozy. The server was friendly and the food ... delicious! Our party enjoyed the food and great conversation, not once feeling rushed to leave. I'd definitely go here again when in the area.

I absolutely love takeout nights from New Era and recommend to anyone in the area and beyond. Although I come VERY often, I usually get the same couple of items Butter Chicken, Lamb Biryani, and of course Tikka Masala. One of these days I'll try something new but you honestly can't go wrong here. When I have visitors from out of town, I always recommend this spot and strong positive feedback. Great place in Chestnut Hill.

Yum! My husband doesn't really like Indian food but he loves New Era! We haven't dined in yet but the takeout service is exceptional! We would continue to order from them.

Found this place while visiting grey towers. What a nice, clean place. The food was amazing! Everything fresh, hot and flavorful. One of the best we've had. Highly recommend.

Omg! Honestly, this review writes itself. The food was amazing. My best friend, nephew, and I came here after a little park outing, and I was pleasantly surprised. I got the lamb curry, aloo gobi, an order of samosa, and an order of naan. My best friend got the butter chicken. So first things first, everything is made to order, so when I say fresh, I mean FRESH! Nothing was overly spicy or under seasoned. Just right. Just perfect! Honestly, i wasn't expecting much that, but they overshot my expectations. The only thing i would complain about if I had to complain about anything is that it taste like they may bake or air fry the samosa. The service was also amazing

Look at these chunks! I'm in the middle of eating this but had to say how delicious it is before I slip into a food coma. Everything arrived piping hot, perfect, and 45 minutes sooner than expected. The sagg is *chef's kiss* and there are SO MANY CHEESE CUBES. I died and went to cheese heaven. Note that this place means it when they ask about spiciness! I ordered everything medium and it's right about where my comfort limit is - if I'd gone up I would still be dead, but not in cheese heaven. Also - not only was everything early and perfect, they also slipped in a free rice pudding. That was so generous; thank you folks! I'm so glad you're here and hope you like the neighborhood.

A hidden gem located in a nice residential area (Chestnut Hill)! Came here yesterday for Father's Day on Juneteenth (coincidentally) late afternoon with my pops. So glad they were open. Peaceful ambience and excellent host! They catered to our spice level and provided a splendid home cooked meal. The naan and roti were evenly roasted. Vegetable chetinad and mix veg (kadai) had good flavor and fresh veggies!! Chana masala had its own unique taste as well. Prices were reasonable. Will be back here again in the near future.

We order take out and delivery often, eat in less often. Solid pick in Chestnut Hill, always delicious food, kind employees.

I stopped by there for the first time several weeks ago for pickup and was pleasantly surprised how good there food was. I ordered the Saag Paneer, Butter Chicken, and garlic naan. All excellent. The staff were so nice as well. I forgot to order the chutneys and the green cilantro sauce. They went to the back and got all 3 sauces for me free off charge. I'll definitely be back.

I will only comment on the taste of the food since I carried out, also I only ate vegetarian so no comment on the meats. But this is not great for Indian food, we tried 3 different curries and the naan. All the currys were obviously from just a basic spice packet, and none of them seemed to have started from an authentic tadka base. The vegetables in the veggie curry were not cooked properly, most were overcooked and soggy. Their paneer is mediocre and the naan is way too thick and the garlic naan does not have an even distribution of garlic. I don't get how this place has such high reviews, nice guy in there but the food is simply sub-par for Indian food.

The food here is always good. We have tried more than 15 dishes from here and are never disappointed. The food is authentic. Highly recommended!!!

The food was very good and the server was very nice and friendly. We got the chicken chettinad and the lamb tikka masala and it was very filling. The portion sizes may look small but it was hard to finish.

Grew to love Indian food in the UK :-) but have struggled to find really good Indian restaurants in US... until I found New Era. It has a fairly basic seated dining area but the friendly and knowledgeable staff and delicious curry more than makes up for it. We drive a fair distance to get there but it's worth it.

Among the best Indian food we've had - rivaled but only one other place in Philly! Phenomenal for takeout, everything so fast hit and fresh. Can't recommend enough.

My husband and I checked this out last week and it was great! We decided to eat in - it's very casual as you can see by the pictures. They definitely do a brisk take out business but I've no issues with that. Server was very attentive. We ordered the Samosa Chhat as an appetizer- delicious. We took half of it home. Ordered the butter chicken and lamb roganjosh. Both were served hot and were delicious. Also got the garlic naan - superb!! I could eat it as a substitute for Italian garlic bread with spaghetti. I'll definitely be back.

This restaurant is a hidden Gem. The staff is friendly, great Food and service. you must give them a try. You will be satisfied.

So, we were initially in the mood for Ethiopian but leave it to Yelp to give us something we "might like". So New Era it is and let me tell yal! The food had my car smelling heavenly ya hear?! My stomach reacted so fast I didn't know where the noise came from. So that's the aroma. We ordered garlic naan (of course), the chilli chicken (to DIE for!), the Tandoori Salmon and the Aloo Gobi. The salmon was cooked perfectly. When I took the lid off the bowl- the way the aroma assaulted my nose in a good way... it should be illegal! The charred peppers and onions were a perfect touch. The Aloo Gobi was good but not enough veggies for me. The star of the show was the chili chicken. Sweet and spicy, grilled and tender, this app is a must have. I'm not sure how much more I can praise this place but the food is amazing. If it pops up give it a try you will not regret it. Can't wait until my next visit.

I'm in Philadelphia on vacation with my family and we were looking for a good place to eat when we stumbled on this place. We ordered so much and the food was amazing. Sagg Paneer and butter chicken was my favorite. All the food had spice and flavor and my mom is very picky when it comes to Indian food. She for the first time loved the food at a restaurant. The owner was very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this place if you're in chestnut hill

I just found out about New Era and ate there for the first time. There used to be another Indian restaurant in Chestnut Hill, Banjara, which we liked very much, but that closed a while ago. New Era, now the only Indian restaurant in Chestnut Hill, is certainly not fancy; in fact, it is quite plain, but the three guys who run it could not be more pleasant and accommodating; the food is great; the prices are crazy inexpensive, and it is BYOB! So what's not to like? They know that many Americans are terrified of spicy food, so they will adjust the spiciness to whatever you like, from most mild to most spicy. Mostly takeout, and they deliver. Highly, highly recommended.

Indian cuisine is an all time favorite for me. I usually am very picky and have high standards for the flavors and textures. And this place is a new favorite of mine . The service was excellent and the food was seriously delicious, tons of flavor. A definite must try!
