"Hidden behind the owner’s main house in Rosedale, this pastoral tiny home delivers full-on cottagecore fantasy from the first chalkboard sign that leads under a trellis into a garden of ivy-covered paths, elegant outdoor cats, and a burbling brook, before you reach a gingerbread-house façade. After punching in our personalized door code, the blast of air conditioning met a high-arched ceiling and a skylight that floods the space and feeds the many houseplants; inside, a retro Frigidaire, a copper-plated French press, and a clawfoot tub evoke made-to-last craftsmanship and a welcome restraint in tech. We spun Dylan and Simon & Garfunkel on the record player for a Woodstock/Monterey vibe, stretched the narrow daybed into a queen, and pulled a handle above the kitchen to drop a projector screen—then parked in our little home theater to catch up on the ever-enthralling lives of those Mormon Wives. Mornings were for sunlight pouring through the skylight and snuggling into the soft-as-a-cloud loft bed; the desk overlooking the deck doubled as a casual workstation, and I’d tell future visitors to pack swimsuits for the hot tub framed with tea lights, perfect for unwinding to birdsong and flickering lightning bugs. It isn’t as central as a downtown stay and you’ll want a car, but Uber and delivery were simple and speedy, and the action is only about a 15-minute ride away; starting price is $338 on Airbnb." - Kat Chen
