A Guide to Boston’s Community Fridges - Eater Boston

"Charlestown has a community fridge as of late 2021, organized by and located outside of NEW Health, an affiliate of Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston Medical Center; the fridge is part of NEW Health’s Food Insecurity Program. The fridge accepts donations of whole fruits and vegetables as well as commercially packaged refrigerated and frozen foods. Monetary donations are welcome here." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal, Terrence Doyle

I had my first eye exam there a year ago. The front desk staff was quite friendly. After an assistant checked my eye pressure and found it normal, they used a bright light to examine my eyes. The doctor then returned and performed another bright light exam. The final result was a suspected diagnosis of glaucoma. Really? The most important thing was that after the bright light exposure, they forgot to give me a pair of cheap sunglasses to protect my eyes. After stepping out into the sunlight, I felt dizzy and my eyes were very uncomfortable. Such mistakes can cause eye damage. I'm afraid to go back there. I only just learned today that I need sunglasses after an eye exam. My mom and I went for an eye exam, and she ended up wearing the protective sunglasses. Such a mistake is truly unforgivable. I give 3 star for the front desk staff.

I was charged for a “no show” despite being in the hospital and having my mother let the dentist office know I could not make the appointment days in advance. New Health had said that I couldn’t attend my cleaning because of the blood thinners I was on at the hospital but still charged me for not showing up. As someone that has moved around Massachusetts growing up, I have been to many different dentist offices and this one is hands down the worst one.

The location is very large it has a second-floor extension. At the Adult Medicine Department, the nurses and doctors are fantastic! Very caring and thorough. Most of the receptionists are very helpful and kind. Some of the receptionists mostly the men are kind of rude. In one incident the male receptionist stated he couldn’t hear me and that I sounded like a robot but that was incorrect because he heard me just fine. On another incident, I called to double check on an appointment and I said thank you and he hung up on me right away, not closing the conversation nicely. If some of the receptionists could be trained more efficiently in customer service I believe it would be an even better and safer environment for patients.

Although I think Dr. Chribuoga & a lot of the nurses here are amazing and I’m thankful for all the great service I’ve gotten since 2015 when they opened I have no words to describe the experience I just had. I come from the south shore and unfortunately got stuck in some traffic. They have a 15min policy. I literally walked in at 2:15pm and the person saw me by the time I talked to the attendant it was 2:16pm per my cell phone and the front desk staff said it was 2:18 on their clock. They refused to see me because being 1 minute late from their 15 minute grace time even though I called them ahead of time and everything to let them know. It is so strange that they would be so petty for being 1 minute off especially when the person saw me walk in and they had a person in front so I probably walked in even before 2:15 and was just waiting in line and even more strange to say my timing was off then I had the phone in front of my face and it said 2:16. I have 2 babies and the staff knows my whole family they know how difficult it is for me to be seen and they want to be petty because I was not at their window by 2:15 because I was waiting in line? That’s just 0 customer service and completely unreasonable. I understand having a policy but it is unfair you will tell me I can’t be seen if I arrived within your policy and was just waiting in line. If you’re going to care for patients then you have to be gracious. I know I’m not the only person in the world with kids, but if the person is already in line and still within your policy it’s such a jerk move to say whoops you’re one minute late and not at the window better luck next time. These are people you’re talking about not robots, not animals. you claim to be a family practice that’s not family friendly and this is inhumane. Literally where is the compassion and your empathy - it’s literally 1 minute off because I was waiting in your line. If you’re going be this strict then have your answering service warn people because the patients that have been with you since you opened didn’t get the memo. I will not be involving myself with any organization that is this petty. Update : I sent a message to the practice and no one even replied to me. This is such a bad impression and to me this practice is no longer what it used to be.

Terrible experience. Dr. called me two weeks after a regular check up even though a follow up was scheduled. I accepted the call because I assumed she had important news that couldn't wait until the follow-up. The Dr. did not give me any important news that needed immediate attention. After I hung up, I thought maybe the call was a mistake. The following month I received a bill for the phone call. I made many attempts to reach someone to explain the situation, but I was not able to speak to anyone that might be able to help. This was not just a problem at New Health, but the billing department at MGH was useless!! After several months of trying to resolve this, I contacted the MA State Attorney and filed a report. Finally, the charge was removed from my account. I will seek out a different practice, one not associated with MGH.

This is literally the cleanest, most friendliest doctors office I have ever been in in my life!

I went for the first time to the Dental clinic. I could get an appointment very quickly, the staff is very nice and competent. Jennifer Hernandez, my hygienist, was super nice and professional. She explained to me what she was doing and her cleaning was actually super gentle. My previous experiences in France were quite brutal! I could get Dr Abdul Aziz to check my teeth and x-rays. She detected something wrong with one of my tooth and got me a referral to get it checked further by a specialist. I guess that's what you want when you go to the dentist : getting the service you came for and getting professional advice.

I was charged for a visit and the doctor never showed up. I sat there for 45 minutes and had to leave for another appt. The doctor called me to apologize and then decided to make that phone call an office visit and charged me for it. I find this to be a very unfair practice and I thought I should share. Please make sure you review your bills and your charges when you are visiting this facility.

Yelp
Nice facility and a great substitute while we've been long awaiting for the Northend Waterfront location to be completely renovated. This Charlestown location can be quite far from downtown Boston, hence a bit inconvenient, but it was a necessary and welcoming substitute for getting your regular six month dental checking every six months -- again, since the Northend Waterfront location is undergoing some restructuring/reconstruction. Front desk staff are very friendly, friendlier than the Northend, I must say. Overall, highly recommended!

Yelp
This is such an amazing place. My hygienist is the absolute sweetest person. I've met with two different dentists and also love them equally! It's rare to find an entire dental clinic that is so competent, up to date, and enjoyable to go to. I used to have an extreme fear of the dentist, as I've had many bad visits in the past. Once I changed to this place though, I actually look forward to going. My dental health has improved significantly since attending.

Yelp
I absolutely love this clinic. The clinic I grew up in would make people wait months for an appointment. When I transferred to New Health they gave me an appointment the next day. The nurses are amazing, you can tell they know their stuff. They took me in as if I had been going there my whole life and fixed every health issue I had. Highly recommend
