"New Helvetia Brewing Company announced that they are facing the very real prospect of eviction and closure due to the lingering impacts of the pandemic. The business has fallen behind on rent payments partly because of escalating costs and diminishing revenues post-pandemic. They are now serving food alongside their beers and encourage customers to visit." - Lauren Saria

First time here. IPA was decent. Server was friendly. As someone who likes food with his drink I was a bit disappointed with the lack of food options. Ordered a taco plate. Tasty but pretty expensive for a small amount of food.

Google
Fantastic beer, comfortable atmosphere with friendly land park and midtown locals and excellent staff. Also very dog friendly! If you haven't stopped by and tried New Helvetia beer lately it's worth a second try, their craft has changed, evolved and improved dramatically in the last year and a half. It used to be one of my favorite spots to being the pup cause of the comfortable laid back neighborhood atmosphere but these days the beer quality and decent prices are right up there for reasons to keep coming back. About half the days of the week they have food trucks parked out front or in the back area and most of the local restaurants will hand deliver next door if you call in and ask them too. It's also family friendly so kids welcome. Looking forward to going in later this week for a pint.

Definitely one of our places in sac for beers. Fantastic staff, solid beers, food location

Sac Town’s hottest bar is New Helvetia. This place has everything: Twinkling lights that make you feel like you’re stuck inside a snow globe. A trivia night that challenges your brain while you sip on a drink that’s part science experiment, part tropical vacation. Get ready to post that Insta story with their wall of fame that whispers, ‘Legends drank here.’ And yes, there are people, always ready with a smile that says, ‘Welcome to the family, but first, let’s take a selfie.’ If you’re lucky, you’ll catch a glimpse of the mysterious poetess with her curly mane, reciting verses that make you question reality, or just the amount of beer in your glass. The bar counter’s as long as the list of ex-lovers you definitely shouldn’t call, and it’s topped with festive decorations that make every day feel like a holiday. But the real treasure? It’s the ‘Trivia Night’ paper that doubles as a treasure map to the heart of this wonderland. So, grab a pen, a pint, and a pal, because this bar’s bizarre bazaar of delights is the night out you never knew you needed.

As I walked in attempting to dust off the chill of the day I was met with warmth, but not only that in the way of temperature. The smell in the air was that of beer brewing mixing with the smell of a bar that we all know and love. It wasn't just smells that were in the air that night but also sounds. There were orders being taken in haisty tones, seriously serious sounding hushed conversations, laughter here and snorts there, salutations being delivered some happy others sad, and possibly a gulp or two. An environment dynamic as this one I have only read about in books... As I was completely immersed in my surroundings I was pleasantly surprised when my beer arrived, then my next, and then my next. New Helvetia fires on all cylinders and im pretty sure there's at least twelve of them. Having gone to and enjoyed many breweries, calling this one my favorite is a monumental accomplishment. Thanks to my father for taking me out for a pop or five!

Google
Great red beer. Great wheat beer. Great pale ale (not pictured) what more do you want? Fast service and a bar? Free Wifi? Yeah, they got it. A food truck? I would give this place five stars just for being a good brewery/tasting room, even if there were no food option. But I am looking at a mobile pizza purveyor, and I didn't try it, but that 'za looks fresh and delicious.

Joaquin Mier

Google
Where are the delicious smoked ribs? Good beer but the food was way better when BBQ was there.

Marilyn Hernandez

Google
Delicious! Enjoyed food and beer flight. Molly Red was my favorite!

Yelp
Cute and local. Love sitting on the patio especially at night. You can even reserve the patio area for larger parties at no additional cost. Food truck in the back serving up some lovely tacos with great vegetarian taco option, too. Watch out the salsa is literal fire, in a good way! Thunderbeast west coast ipa for the win. Give it a shot, cheers!

Daniel S.

Yelp
Great Beet! I had the coffee stout and the brown ale. Both are excellent. My partner had the midtown janky. It was a not too sour tart cherry beer. We had some street excitement. A collision right in front. The cars are not driving away. Fortunately no serious injuries. Remember, drive safely.

Andrea P.

Yelp
We visited this place on our visit to Sacramento. The burger was amazing! Great environment with fun games to play while you visit and very friendly staff!

Robin T.

Yelp
Fun place with a great family vibe. If you're not a beer drinker, the ciders are really good!

Linda M.

Yelp
The beer is ok. I feel Like I'm in a teenagers room with the lights and decor. The personnel aren't the friendliest either. Just the whole atmosphere is boring no personality.

Vickie L.

Yelp
KC Kombucha on tap!! Can't wait to go back and try the Ramen! Excited about the new menu and hours!

Nathan Z.

Yelp
Great beer on the edge of the Land Park. We had some tastings and settled on a solid coffee stout to drink. Light snacks are available (chips & pretzels) and you can BYO. Dogs are good outside from what I observed. The environmental highlights would include clean, bright, low key, and friendly (service and clientele). Beer quality was consistently good across the types. I am not into super hoppy beer. I thought the IPA's were well balanced and the aies were not over hopped. A tip for sitting outside, if the car wash across the street is open sit out back. It can be a little loud. After it closes there is some good people watching out front.

Heather S.

Yelp
Cool atmosphere. The beer selection was good. Staff was friendly and helpful with recommendations. The French fries from the food truck were tasty!

Olivia P.

Yelp
my fave lil neighborhood bar in the whole wide WORLD!!! so much fun, the bartenders are the most amazing folks :-))))

Brian G.

Yelp
Came here to hangout with friends after work. It's a cool brewery along Broadway with a decent selection of interesting beers. The bartender here was very friendly and let me try a few samples. I ended up getting the peach cobbler, which had an incredible aroma and was quite good (coming from someone who isn't big on beer). They don't have a kitchen but have food trucks on a rotating schedule, which weren't there on the day I went unfortunately.

Michael B.

Yelp
I don't know why people are sleeping on this place - it's better than Oak Park Brewing and Urban Roots! Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Many bike racks out front. Good variety of beers and they're really good, even hard seltzers!

Marcie H.

Yelp
Went in to try this brewery. Waited for 5 mins without being acknowledged. The only time the person behind the counter said anything to me was when I walked out.

Bythenameof J.

Yelp
New Helvetia has a nice (off the busy street) back patio. This is a big benefit for me because cars and car noise is something I'm always trying to escape. I don't hate cars, I just don't want them dominating my experience of the world thank you very much. The staff (owner operators) are great. Perfectly friendly and knowledgeable about what they offer. This place is now a co-op, which I also support and find to be a great model for business. I hope they are successful and enjoy the feeling and knowledge that no single person will be getting rich and keeping most of the rewards for themselves. I'm anti greed. I love coming here with my dog and having a beer, or bringing my wife and little kids and having snacks from the food wagon in the back. The pretzel is 8 bucks. I just had a Friday 5 dollar beer. The beer is good. The beer is solid. They have a couple funky styles. Like a Düsseldorf Altbier. Excellent. I became a co-op member and will benefit from a small discount on stuff they sell. It also gives me the warm and fuzzies having contributed to this place that I like. I wanna have more reasons to go there and meet people from the neighborhood. The building is kind of old and weird and cool too. It's got a good vibe. I like the funky brick walls. It feels somewhat gritty. I like gritty. It feels authentic. Did I mention the spicy Asian fried chicken sandwich? Eat it. You won't regret it. Dog friendly, Kid friendly, Friendly Friendly

Bill L.

Yelp
This is my local so I'm kinda biased. I'm a big fan of the Molly, Buffalo Lager and the Homeland Stout. Finally got a chance to try their new(ish) kitchen. Having the Mac and Cheese. It's terrific! More saucy than most (I didn't know this was something I liked till today) A little bit of spice. Just right.

G R.

Yelp
Service great! Beverages on tap had a good range of brews. The food is the reason for returning delicious smoked bbq ribs or brisket Mac n queso. Ambiance was inviting.

Emily C.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this spot for a little while and learned they had $5 flights on Fridays, so it was the perfect time to try it out. I'm not the biggest beer person I will say, but I'm a sucker for a good vibe which is why I still enjoyed my experience here! I didn't love any of the beers and neither did my guy, but we enjoyed chatting in the warm ambiance of the lights and bustling environment inside. I'd definitely come back again if/when they have a sour or cider on tap!!

Margo V.

Yelp
Such a fun brewery! I like the feel of it....quite open for such a small space. There is front and back patio seating. The beer is always really good. They also have Kombucha on top from KC's Kombucha.

Emily W.

Yelp
Great beer. Great food. And the BEST staff ever! They are always so friendly. I also always appreciate how helpful they are. I am always overwhelmed by all the choices and they take the time to explain the differences so you can get the perfect brew.

Mike C.

Yelp
Great place in an area you wouldn't expect. Excellent selection of beers, and being more a porter and stout kinda person that's saying something. Server was friendly and very knowledgeable, prices are reasonable, ambience is perfect -- we were there mid-afternoon on a Friday, so virtually empty and yet it still felt comfortable and engaging. Had a minor hiccup with the bill, which I didn't realize until later...a few Facebook messages back and forth and all was resolved with minimal pain and suffering haha. Well worth your time and money, and we'll be sure to spend more of both here in the future!

Jess L.

Yelp
Very, very chill brewery. Lots of great options on tap plus a handy fridge with bottles and cans to go. The decor is simple and nostalgic. There's a shelf of board games and some snacks, including chips. I got a glass of their limited edition Fog Door, and I loved its citrusy punch. It was great perching by the window and watching the after work rush.

Inez V.

Yelp
Walking distance to the lane park area. My husband and I went to check it out. He enjoyed the beer! I enjoyed the seltzer. We played a few rounds of connect 4. We saw they also had a Jenga. It was a very chill spot to grab and try a drink.

Rebecca S.

Yelp
My husband and I went to New Helvetia last Friday and were really impressed with the new food offerings. I had birria tacos which were fantastic - as good as some I've had in San Francisco, but much more reasonably priced! My husband had the Fried Asian Chicken sandwich - big, moist and spicy. We also got a side of fries, which were also really good. And only $5.00!! The beer was good too, but we expected that - nice to have some tasty and reasonably priced options to go with it now. Check it out!

Patrick R.

Yelp
Really love this place. It's like the cozy version of breweries. Their location is directly on Broadway street here in Sac but it is easy to miss as signage is minimal. Overall they are very inclusive of everyone! Which is amazing. They push our phenomenal beers and my favorite is the Pla-to! Setting wise they have a indoor seating seating that is roughly 400 square feet. Along side a really comforting outdoor seating which makes you feel like you are downtown sac. Nice and quite, best place to relax and get away from the hussle and bussle. Bathrooms are super clean which is a big plus. Food wise you can grab a new service of a location kitchen or grab a food truck which Is normally Wings Mahal or Hapa Pizza. Both great beer options. Def visit for a beer or two and enjoy a local Sacramento experience.

Russell S.

Yelp
Came here on Sunday for the first time. Was greeted by Branko. He delivered great customer service by recommending all the beers that was on tap and definitely was resourceful . Definitely will be back!! The $5 flights was to die for

Mr B.

Yelp
New healthy shirt. You never let me down. I'm weathering the storm inside. Thank goodness no trees hit the building here.

Samuel K.

Yelp
Solid beer and a nice relaxing atmosphere. I love beer history and California history in general so I love the historic items and maps displayed around

Gail B.

Yelp
New Helvetia Brewing has great beer and now great food. Just had the bacon jam burger and it was fantastic! Meat cooked perfectly and the fries were crispy and light. Ordered it on-line and it was hot and ready when I arrived 7 minutes later to pick it up. Highly recommend.

Jack P.

Yelp
Updated. I stopped in after several years to revisit and I have to drop a star because the bar has been raised.

BK O.

Yelp
Great beer, great deals, and great service! I love that they have $5 flights every Sunday and that they are a dog friendly environment! I come every week!

Marissa C.

Yelp
Didn't stay long, but looks cool to grab a beer. We stopped by after dinner to pick up some night caps and ended up taking Dave home - a 6 pack of sours. The bartender was nice to let us taste Dave and Karen to compare which we liked better before we purchased a pack. Both were on the lighter side for sours, but still enjoyable.

Jaime C.

Yelp
Nice location off of Broadway. They offer a good selection of beers and a delicious coconut flavored Kombucha. We attended a going away party there and sat in their open air patio area. They offer a few games for entertainment and nice wooden tables/benches with string lights for a nice ambiance.

Shaneel R.

Yelp
Really enjoyed there first ever Guinea pig event . Staff were very friendly and nice . Loved the vibe of the place . Place has a cool look to it and absolutely loved the kombucha! Can't wait for the next event.

Madison N.

Yelp
New Helvetia (not to be confused with the font Helvetica Neue) is my favorite place to grab a beer and a lunch/dinner during this pandemic. They always have a great line-up of food trucks in the queue (check their Instagram for dates and times!) and their beer is obviously fantastic. Their outdoor seating is well-spaced and I've never felt like i had to sit particularly close to another person. Also, if you are comfortable eating outside, don't miss out on their seltzer slushies! A perfectly refreshing treat for hot Sacramento days. I also recommend the Midtown Peach and any of their Kindred Spritz seltzer's - the mint mojito was my favorite but all of them are really good.

Courtney P.

Yelp
Wrapping up a day of exploring (and drinking) our way through Sacramento, we found ourselves at New Helvetia Brewing Company. An inconspicuous little gem off Broadway, we enjoyed a few pints while playing Clue. The atmosphere is pretty mellow, almost nondescript. But they have plenty of board games and TVs. The prices are fair and the pours are hefty. A nice option to have nearby when the mood for a good beer strikes.

Kristin H.

Yelp
Favorite local brewery! In the heart of the Land Park neighborhood in Sacramento, I love it because I can walk there and stumble home. Super family-friendly, which in my book is a huge win. Occasionally they have food trucks, so you can also enjoy some food with your brew. They have a game room attached to the back which has a ping-pong table and huge Jenga. Pretzels at the ready. Now the important part - the beer. Some amazing brew coming out of the spot - mystery airship 4.0, Shandler Bing, cotton & pepper, all so delicious. Bonus: car wash across the street. See what I'm getting at? The usual annoying Car Wash Wait is made tolerable by a beer, just hop across the street.

Brian K.

Yelp
I'm a fan of the beer, the location, and the free pretzels! The staff does a good job too! I wouldn't forget you guys. The beer at New Helvitia is interesting, flavorful, and completely calorie free! Haha! Calm down ladies. The last one was a blatant exaggeration. Their beers are worth the extra calories IMO. Their stouts are robust, smooth, and full of character. One actually has coffee in it. I wonder if it will keep me awake? I like the casual vibe in the brewery. You can walk in back and see the Brewing equipment up close. There's a great patio with a giant Jenga game. Ping pong too! It's good fun. Good spectating too! The beer-fueled patio games get pretty sloppy as the night progresses... Kinda like your mom! New Helvetia is great beer-drinking, Jenga-building, ping-pong fun!

Vikki S.

Yelp
What a nice brewery! It's indoors with AC or heat. Parking is very limited. Once you get in it's nicely decorated, the bathrooms are clean and cute! We tried the Thunderbeast and man for an IPA, it didn't disappoint. I wanted to try the stouts but I had to drive. I'll definitely have to come back! The workers were extremely friendly! There was a food truck parked outside! I definitely recommend this place if you don't want to drive in traffic during the commuter rush! Come in and drink after work! :). Wait for the traffic to die down! You will have a great time! There were some nicely named craft beers! Definitely one of the nicest breweries in Sacramento but yes parking will be a challenge.

Cindi W.

Yelp
Excellent beer highly recommend it. I love the homeland stout and I had a pale ale that was divine. It is a great brewpub and you can get your car washed across the street. Oh hey don't drink and drive savor the flavor and take it slow Ok visited again a year later and yes the Homeland Stout is dope man. Yeah it rocks. I had Buffalo Craft Lager. I tasted the milkshake mango ipa sounds gross but it is great and it's not a fruity beer cause I like my beers hefty and strong not fruity. I did try mystery ship anniversary ale quite good also. Man, Land Park and Oak Park areas have excellent brews so come on bay to cure what ales ya!!!

Mark R.

Yelp
A wonderful Sacramento small business with a big line-up of delicious craft beers. This is my go-to brewery for the aforementioned beers, cheerful staff and relaxed atmosphere. They are deeply involved in the local community supporting open dialogue, live music, artists, local groups and other local brewers. I've been a happy member of their growler club for years. They are open for grab and go hours and several days a week for outside socially distanced dining and drinks thanks to their partnership with some tasty food truck offerings.

Beau C.

Yelp
Nice stop just down the road from Oak Park Brewing so decided to stop in. Good decision. Had a couple really good beers. They were slammed busy but still managed to notice we were there and got our drinks in a reasonable amount of time. They were having a guac competition with the local restaurants so we got chips and dip at no additional cost. Not much seating inside but hey have a comfortable patio with lights and a giant swamp cooler. In fact one of the servers who first greeted us and apologized for the wait, found us on the patio. Said she wanted to make sure we got something to drink...nice...Ended up parking a couple blocks away in the neighborhood behind them but was well worth the walk. We will be back to get a growler next trip.

Jenny P.

Yelp
I may have just found my new favorite brew. This really shouldn't be legal in the lower 48. Ginger Elizabeth Chocolates, the shop, right? We've all been over there to spoil our Moms or to lessen the sting of a particularly bad Monday. New Helvetia has a hand crafted Ginger Elizabeth Chocolate Porter... The Mystery Airship 2.0. Dark Chocolate richness on the palate and a surprisingly multi-layered bouquet and a satisfying finish. If I sound pretentious I don't even care. Wow. So there's more to New Helvetia than just this naughtly little beer, though it was quite obviously my favorite thing of things offered. I also tried the Homeland Stout, as I'm a Stout and Porter kind of gal. This beer was also awesome in its own way. Didn't have the overpowering strength that stouts tend to have; I found it more refreshing and balanced. This was the spot chosen for UYE Book Club III, sparsely attended, but still enjoyable. I was grateful for the opportunity to get to know fellow yelpers Katie and Sara a little better. Katie even spoiled me with a birthday brew of my choice. The Sacramento Yelp Community truly is a gem! New Helvetia is a good place to hang out with people, and very dog friendly. We visited with a pug and a westie on the back patio and witnessed the Great Toppling of the Giant Jenga. They also often host fun events. This past Sunday was a Guac Off, in which we were to try 8ish different types of guacamole with some chips and pick the top 3. It was free on the condition that you had to vote. So vote I did. My last reason of reasons to come here is the friendly employees. I was interested in the process for my new obsession, and the nice Keeper of the Taps was kind enough to tell me the story and answer my questions. Thanks, New Helvetia! p.s. Parking? Try the neighborhood one street down. That's where I found ample space. I believe that would have been the corner of 18th & Burnett.

Michelangelo S.

Yelp
*Bingo!* It Doesn't Get Easier Than This! SITREP New Helvetia has a really nice variety of local brews for a good price. Their hand-crafted options are truly unique, but more importantly than that, they are engagingly diverse, so much so that I have been with a friend that could NOT find something they like. MY FAVORITE FLIGHT Speaking of which I've had great flights when there, which have included the following, to wit: * Buffalo Craft lager! Smooth, Refreshing, like a Prairie Field soaked under a citrus Sun * Molly American Red Ale! More body, more taste, and yet still light * Homeland Stout! This was a pleasant foundational brew, and is it was, this was the featured foundation that all the *Coffee*-brews were based upon during this Beer Week 2015. Good stuff too; and, * (916) Pale Ale! My favorite any night of the week, and the one that brings me back to New Helvetia FOOD TRUCKS Food! Yes, Food! Various food trucks come on out and fill your belly to soak up the wonderful brews, so don't forget to bring cash for whichever truck is being featured on a particular night! MASS TRANSIT SAVES THE DAY (FOR ME, ANYWAYS!) *Bejeezus!* For those you of a little remiss about making the trip in the car, New Helvetia is literally just a couple blocks down from the Broadway Station on the Light-Rail Blue-Line. Seriously. I just jump on at 12th & H Streets near my home in Midtown and *zoooom* on down to Broadway, And-Then-I-AM-SET, to meet up with friends after work or for later in the evening, without having to worry about getting DUI'd. (Not worth it!) So this certainly makes the choice for me to hit up New Helvetia. [Sorry, Yolo Brewing Co., I love you, but it takes too much planning to try to get to you if I don't want to drive. And for that matter, that goes for you too, Track 7, though I can hit you off the Blue Line too, but *jesus*, you're a much harder hike from there.] THE LOWDOWN New Helvetia - It's what's for (with) dinner!

Tino P.

Yelp
Cool spit...but THAT Buck & Sadie's food truck tonight amazing. We will follow them to other breweries I hope!!

Rebekah T.

Yelp
I like to make the most of quick trips out of town by researching the very best of what we like in that area. I found that a couple new breweries had opened and wanted to do a mini beer tour of Sacramento. First stop was the New Helvetia Brewing Co, which I can't say without thinking of the font name, Helvetica. There was a food truck parked outside, yet we were saving our appetite for our reservation at Heat Shabu Baru, which is practically across the street. We ordered up a full sampler from the bar, which was served on a wood board shaped like the state of California. We love sampling local craft beers. Above the bar are many ribbons that were recently won in state beer competitions. The brewery is cool, has great beer, a fun vibe and a nice outdoor patio. Sometimes you just need an ice cold beer to go along with sunshine and good times.

Nickie D.

Yelp
Very enjoyable brewery. The bartenders were super friendly and accommodating when I was trying to figure out what beer I wanted to get. I also loved how they decorated the location. The place wasn't big but when I went, there was plenty of seats available. PS - There are also games that you can play while you enjoy a beer here so definitely recommend checking this place out with some friends.

Cindy S.

Yelp
I've been to New Helvetia a few times now but what finally sparked my interest to write my review was the special porter they had this past weekend for their 2nd anniversary. The Mystery Airship-2nd Sighting" Imperial Chocolate Porter collaboration with Ginger Elizabeth was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. If it were available by the growler I would have totally got one! The porter was super smooth with a full, rich chocolate flavor- absolutely DELICIOUS! (I really really really hope they make this porter again.) New Helvetia has a great range of beers on tap at reasonable prices. I tend to prefer darker beers in general. The guys at the bar are super nice and can help you out if your debating on what to get. If you need a snack, there is a free pretzel machine at the end of the bar and if you get really hungry check the schedule for a visiting food truck. New Helvetia is a lot smaller than some of the other breweries in Sac but they have ample seating inside and on the back patio. There is also a shelf with a bunch of board games for entertainment.

Katrina M.

Yelp
Very nice place to hangout with friends. Pretzels are provided and water is self serve, when ch is great!

Lynn H.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place!! But I didn't really care for it. I really liked the spot they have. Nice bar space, nice indoor seating, nice back door seating... So it's a cool atmosphere. I opted for the taster, which held a lot of beer. I think you get 8, 2 oz pours of each. They were running low so I got 2 of the special pours in a 1 oz pour. The red was OK. Everything else was meh. I didn't really care for the beers. I did enjoy the fact they had a bunch of board games. That was pretty cool. They also have a variety of food trucks that come by. So you don't have to feel hungry after you guzzle a bunch of beer. I am really hoping they step up their beer brewing game. I like the spot enough that I would probably come back even though I didn't like the beer.

Marlon T.

Yelp
I didn't really think Sacramento would be a brewing city but after spending a lot of time here, beer-producers are practically everywhere and New Helvetia is a great example! I had a jolly good time here with some friends enjoying their brews, pretzels, and games in their back patio. We played big lopsided Jenga and Battle of the Sexes. Their back patio is honestly a nice place to chill especially if you have some non-human companions. It's not the nicest layout with plenty of exterior layout improvements that could happen, but the shanty-ness adds some charm. The staff was nice, the restrooms were clean, and most importantly the beer was good. I mean, it's a straight up decent brewery in the heart of a developing part of Sacramento. I'd for sure recommend coming here for your brew needs on a crawl of the pub type.
