Sma5h Review - Rainier Valley - Seattle - The Infatuation

"At this smashbuger counter between Rainier Valley and New Holly, you’ll hear the grill sizzling as soon as you step foot inside. The beef patties are a bit thicker than usual for a smashie, but they're juicy and well-seasoned nonetheless, going well with the crisp trio of lettuce, tomato, and pickles. And everything here is halal. They have a few variations on the burger, but If you like onions, get the “super smash”—there are huge meaty chunks of them cooked until translucent and sweet. And while you can skip the limp fries here, the restaurant has also nailed a rare Seattle-born chopped cheese that finally wouldn’t make a New Yorker point and laugh." - Kayla Sager-Riley

I love this building and all the good that comes out of it. The church my uncle goes to rents space from the New Holly Gathering Hall and the space couldn't be more perfect for the church. It's beautiful inside and out, as well as really spacious. Took my nephew's to the church that rents space in the building, for an Easter Sunday celebration that turned out beautiful. The day was beautiful, they did an Easter egg hunt outside that was wonderful. Although the space wasn't designed for an eating space, there was still enough space to set up, serve and have tables for everyone to eat. They hold workshops for the community and have many other community organizations using the space for wonderful things for our community. Overall, great place.

It's showing its age a little, but still a beautiful event space. Sound system is good enough for most purposes and a competent DJ can deal with any extra hookups needed. Full commercial kitchen and plenty of parking. We had a memorial in the space. I had never noticed the two sinks in the back of the hall. People brought flowers and having the work space and running water in the main event area made it very easy for the person handling the bouquets. If you're considering a venue for a group of several hundred, it's worth looking at New Holly. Reasonable rates and their staff does the setup and takedown of the chairs and/or tables - a great service IMO.

I visited the New Holly Gathering Hall and fell immediately fell in love with this venue. My first impression of it was a big "WOW, MY KIND OF HALL". The stage was very large and spacious and I loved the smooth wooden floors. The hall was huge and I loved the acoustic. My only regret is that I should have accepted the other previous invitations that I got. Parking was easy to find. I totally enjoyed my visit, and is highly recommending it.

The AC was not working and we were at a wedding. It was too hot to do anything. The windows did not open and nobody informed us of this until we got there.

Dropped off a catering order. Staff was pleasant, the facility was clean and the bathrooms were tidy. We'll recommend this venue to future clients.

Yelp
A great location with neighborhood views, access to public transportation and several amenities. We attended a Baha'i Naw Ruz (New Year) Party, here and loved the space for its large room, easily accommodating 150+ guests. They allow for outside catering, have tables and chairs set up for you, and offer AV equipment for projecting videos and using the mic. There are sinks and small counter spaces available as well as a large, slightly raised stage two steps up for performances and performers. Overall, a nice space!

Yelp
DO NOT RESERVE YOUR WEDDING RECEPTION HERE. We made our down payment and signed all the paperwork in October 2018 for our October 2019 wedding. But they've had so much turnover (about four event coordinators since then) that we JUST found out today--6 weeks from our wedding--that they lost all our paperwork, they scheduled another event ending at 1 when my wedding is at 2 (when the heck are we supposed to set up?!?!), and that maintenance will be limited because it is weekend hours. NONE OF THIS is what they told us when we originally reserved the space. Back then, they said we'd be able to set up at noon at the latest, there wouldn't be an event that morning, and the maintenance guy said he would be on hand all day. You deserve better! Don't go here for your reception!

Yelp
I've been to many events at NewHolly both as a guest and a customer. The facility is clean, spacious, and easy to find. A parking lot is available but can fill up quickly, depending on the size of your event and other activities that may be going on. There is an upstairs and downstairs but the hall itself is on the main level (or upstairs). On one side of the building, there is a lounge area near the bathrooms. It is a very clean, well kept space to sit and chill out away from the action. On the other side is the gathering hall. The hall itself has beautiful wood floors and large windows. If your event requires darker quarters, the shades can be drawn easily. Right where the windows are, there is a stage that covers the width of the hall. There are stairs all the way across and two accessible ramps up each side. The stage can fit a variety of needs and they have a podium and other tables that can be set up there, depending on your needs. I've been to most events where round tables are used. Other sets can be with chairs only. There is a sink on each side of the back of the hall as well as areas to hang coats, which I think is a necessity in Seattle. The staff is fantastic! They are flexible and easy to work with in order to meet your needs. I have to say that aside from having things set according to a floor plan, they recognize that it is possible you may have last minute changes and are very accommodating. Before you enter the hall, there is a hallway that can be set as a check-in area. I find that really helpful as people don't get clogged right inside the doors. If you're looking for a facility, you should consider NewHolly. They have tons of information on their website about cost and such. A great facility run by great people. Who could ask for more?
