Where To Eat Biryani In LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Chances are you’ve driven past an India Sweets & Spices at some point—this tiny Indian market has locations from Culver City to Northridge. But that’s not to say it’s not some mass-produced mini-chain. Each location is independently owned with its own style and character, and most sell hot food items prepared in small takeout counters at the back of the store. At the Fairfax location (just south of Little Ethiopia), it’s all about the biryani. There are several different kinds on the menu ranging from paneer to shrimp, but we like the chicken best, which arrives moist every time (no easy task for a slow-cooked dish like biryani). We prefer to order it spicy, but just know that the chefs don’t hold back on the heat." - brant cox

Homely cooked food and great hospitality. All the parathas are super awesome and are quite filling. I highly recommend this place for those who want to experience the authentic north Indian parathas

Google
This place is heaven for desi people, they sell groceries but also have their little restaurant inside, you can eat all things here from dosa to smosa, cholle bhature to sarso ka saag. These guys are really friendly. Specially uncle aunty ji, they are very humble. Apart from it they sell sweet too, man i buy sweet everysingle time whenever i visit there.

Not recommended.. Maintenance is very bad

Google
Very very very rude owner. My family and I have been shopping here for years but recently had a very bad experience with the owner/man behind the counter. We bought an ice cream bar for my 6 year old daughter that upon opening had black spots on the top that looked like mold. I complained to the owner and said we would like another ice cream for her because I will not let my daughter eat dangerous mold looking ice cream. He angrily snatched the opened ice cream bar from my hand and threw it as hard as he could back into the freezer and angrily told/yelled at us to pick another ice cream then pay the difference for the new one. No apology for the very horrible behavior or for the moldy ice cream that could have been dangerous for a child to consume. Shame on you owner for this horrible behavior of yours. I can say I have never been treated more rudely by anyone at any store as badly as that man treated me that day.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this little market as we initially were here for autozone next door. Decided to see if there were any goodies waiting to be eaten. Yes!! Head to the back of the shop and they have a whole menu of items available. Friendly and inviting service! Inside the market are tables and chairs to sit and enjoy your snacks or meals. We got some samosas, sweet lassi and mango lassi and sweet peda. Samosas were hot and fresh served with the traditional dipping sauces. Dough was light and crispy, filling was packed with flavor we loved the spice on it. My only complaint is I wish we got more! Would definitely return in a heartbeat.

Yelp
Amazing deserts and great service! The rasmalia is very good and so is the dohsa. Will come again!

Yelp
This place is soooo yummy. It's a small grocery store that sells sweets and snacks. They also have light vegetarian meals! I'm obsessed with their pani puri and samosas. I ordered a mango lassi but the kitchen was closed :( luckily the clerk was nice enough to blend me up a fresh one! My Indian friends wanted their information as soon as they saw my photos.. a good sign in my book!

Yelp
The service is always fast and very polite people working the front and back. I always come here for the Samosas but all of the traditional market ingredients are fresh. And not like what you would find at your typical grocery store.

Maggie S.

Yelp
Visited twice They have improved a lot Go there one a week for masala dosa Other fresh vegetables also They have sweets but try to resist those

Subodh S.

Yelp
Best place in the town for fresh hot Samosa and Jalebi! Friendly service.

Yelp
New India Sweets & Spices has been a staple in this shopping plaza for a long, long time. I've peeked in before, but immediately exited because I felt slightly intimidated. I came here last Monday, and I'm so glad I did. The main space functions as a supermarket for all of your Indian ingredient needs, however, I was in it for the snack counter which is located at the back of the store. I ordered 4 samosas - each one was priced at $1.50 - so cheap! And good! They were filled with potatoes and bits of peas - while they came in a brown paper bag, the samosas were piping fresh and made to order. They make for a good snack if you happen to be in the area. I'll be back to try the other items on their menu.

Yelp
If you're looking for delicious and homestyle, Indian food, then "New India Sweets and spices" is your final destination in Daimond Bar. Everything they made is so delicious, specially their sweets, you won't find kind of Indian sweets in this neighborhood. They are the best !

Yelp
Indulge in incredible samosas, and on specific days, savor the irresistible delight of freshly made Jalebi - truly a treat worth experiencing!

Yelp
(Pre-COVID review) I remember when my Indian coworker would come here often during her lunch breaks to purchase samosas for us and boy were they delicious! Growing up in DB, I have been lucky to have so many Indian restaurants and stores in the area but I never came in here to purchase samosas on my own until a few months ago. I ordered 4 samosas at the counter and they freshly fried them for me. Love, love the sauces that come with it. The aroma of the samosas filled my car as I was driving home. The size and the price of the samosas are great and I always want to purchase them whenever I am in the area. New India Sweets & Spices is a store, but also sells prepared food, along with lots of items in the fridge and freezer. There are items here that one may not find in other supermarkets. The Ross and the Sprouts used to be one big K-Mart store, and the other stores in the parking lot, near DB Blvd were not there before. There also used to be a dry cleaner located in between New India and ACE. This plaza has undergone through so many changes, but New India & Spices is still here! The parking lot has also changed, which I am not a fan of but usually there are a few parking spots available right in front of the store.

Yelp
Great food. Good service. Reasonable price. Call before you go to make sure kitchen is open. That would be my only advice.

Yelp
This is our go to place for Samosas for years. Vegetarian specials are great. If you like spicy foods, they do it well. They have a good variety of sweets as well.

Yelp
I was craving good genuine Indian food. I also needed a few spices. What I love about Indian stores is that you can get large quantities of good quality spices for about 1/4 of the price that you would pay for a small quantity at an American grocery store. When it comes to Indian cooking supplies this place does not disappoint. They have anything and everything you can imagine for cooking good quality Indian food. The shop even has a produce section of items that you will need for Indian cooking. The store has a wide variety of Indian cosmetics, Incense, cleaning supplies and hygiene supplies. I do suggest that you know what you want before you go into the store. The staff was not very warm or helpful. I asked a few questions in my quest to find tandoori spices, raw Garam masala spices and flour for a good Bahji. I really didn't feel that the very short answers that I received sufficed. The owner of the store referred to the chef in the back. The owner did not know how a few basic Indian dishes were to be prepared Or what spices I might need for those simple dishes. He couldn't even point me in the right direction on the shelves. When the chef came out of the back, I felt a vibe that he did not want to be explaining anything to this amateur cook before him. He gave me some very short nonanswers and went back into his kitchen. The store has a large frozen section wrapping around the side and back with frozen samosas, Pecora's , curries, Vindaloo, sweets, ice cream's , take home dinners. For the most part the prices are about what you would pay at a restaurant for the same exact thing. But I will say the frozen entrees we picked up to take home we're good. But I strongly suggest you avoid their ice cream. The textures and the flavors everything about it was wrong. Like really wrong. We purchased 3 half pints of the cardamom, mango, and A third I can't really remember right now they were all very bizarre and I would never buy them again. And trust me when I say that good quality Indian ice cream is better than certain nighttime activities with a partner for alone We tried out the stores vegetarian deli. I ordered a plate. It had basmati rice, a curry, Channa Bhatura and yoghurt. The meal also came with a freshly made naan. I added a few samosas and spinach bajhi? I really wanted to enjoy the meal. I found that a few of the items were so heavily spiced that it overwhelmed my palate and I really wasn't able to taste The other elements on the plate. The dough surrounding the very spicy Samosa filling was very thick and dry it had no seasoning. I was hoping for a light flaky wheat dough. Overall on a scale I will give them a meal about a 3. I have to say that I do find this store a bit intimidating I shop in Indian stores all the time. I really didn't have a welcoming experience here. We ordered a half a pound of Indian sweets from behind the counter to go. the price was nine dollars. And sweets were OK they were not the best that I have ever had. They were passable. Some seemed like they were stale. I looked at the receipt for the excursion at home. I discovered that I had been charged at the beginning of the receipt for the box of the deli sweets and at the end of the receipt for the same box of sweets. We had only ordered one half pound. The next time I was in town I attempted to talk to somebody on the staff about this I had the receipt with me and that conversation basically went nowhere. We were not refunded or offered a solution to the challenge so the good lesson for me if I shop here again is to double check the receipts before I leave the store. There were some really really good things about this shop and then there were some memorable things. What works and what does not work for future shops. The best thing is the deals that you can get on spices and pulses.

So I was introduced to this place by a friend who wanted to grab some samosas for the road , I had never had samosas before and now I have them on a weekly basis they are cooked to order,Hot ,Fresh and delicious. I also had this very sweet drink (mango lassi) It's like an Indian party in my mouth . The cashier is very friendly and sweet . Thank you so much guys !

Yelp
I absolutely love everything about New India!! Great food Awesome customer service & they have the best natural hair oils!! The best coconut oil & the incense I've been buying here for years!! It's always a wonderful experience shopping here

Aman B.

Yelp
I ordered Bhatura chana. Channa was served stale. I threw up after eating. I wonder once they cook , how many days they serve. They don't see the mold on top layer so they continue to serve they use them all? Paid $6. Charge more but they done serve stale. Don't make people sick

Kanika S.

Yelp
My family and I were traveling back from sacramento and we decided to stop here based on the previous Yelp reviews. The food here was amazing plus we got to do some Indian shopping.
google avatar

Mussa S.

Yelp
Samosas are great . Price is good . Size is good . Taste is All there . Can't complain about the samosa . I didn't & wouldn't try anything else there 2 people on the register , the lady is super nice amazing people skills . The guy was bland & if he would have opened his mouth I would have walked out .
google avatar

Kuldip S.

Yelp
It is my favorite place for my snacks Spices lentils vegetables anything that has to do with the Indian sweets and spices this is where I go. The best part of this place is the owner is directly involved in all the operations and he will not miss any details to any sweets snacks with his experience of 20+ years in the kitchen he can tell right from wrong from entering into the store. Customer service and selection is second to none. From Prathas to Chats sweets to Chai and Mango Lassi check em out. They will not let you . You get your cravings satisfied with their authentic Indian fast food taste same as back home Punjab.

Yelp
I've been eating and shopping here for DECADES. This store is always fully stocked and their hot food menu is absolutely delicious and amazingly priced. By now I've tried everything on the menu and I've never been disappointed. They always pack the orders correctly and give a generous portion of food. As far as grocery, their items are always stocked, up to date and fresh. There are other Indian grocery stores who keep expired products on shelves but not here. I've learned recently the family who owns this place does a lot of service for the community at their local temple and are all around humble and loving people. I'd love to see an overhaul/update of the store, tables chairs etc at some point but whether or not that happens I think they'll continue to give great products and service for a great price.
google avatar

Divya A.

Yelp
Great service and fresh food. A neighborhood favorite. I recommend this for authentic Indian food.
google avatar

Yamini S.

Yelp
Not compromising with taste is the best I can say. You go to Artesia and it's nothing but disappointment. Here you can taste authentic Indian sweets and food. I am not going back to shops in artesia for food and grocery. This is it for me .

Al S.

Yelp
Poorly run and maintained operations at this place . Ceiling and the rest rooms in the worst condition yet they have a letter A on their window. Cook food quality is very bad . I will not return here

Yelp
I have been shoppnig from this store for many years and they're best! Fresh products and great customer service!!
google avatar

Michelle R.

Yelp
Best place to satisfy a samosa addiction! Really nice customer service, delicious food (especially the samosas), and you can shop in the store (which doubles as a grocery store), Sprouts or Marshalls while you're waiting for your food to be cooked. Everything is freshly prepared-- you can even see the chef in the background. I'm so grateful this place is open during the pandemic.
google avatar

Grace P.

Yelp
I got all I want! Paprika, Coriander, Cardamon Powder, Tumeric, Black Salt Power, Garam Masala, Cumin powder, Saffron, Curry Mild, Amchur Power, Masala Tea. The staff was very nice and easy to communicate with. The kitchen close on Mondays. I may try the kitchen next time.
google avatar

Rohit K.

Yelp
This place has been around forever. The food here is reasonably priced and the quality is very good for that price. If you want homestyle Indian food, this is the only place you'll really find the things that we Indians eat at home. Cleanliness could use an upgrade, but nice food.
google avatar

Alpesh R.

Yelp
Not a restaurant, it's an Indian grocery store but the food is amazing! Don't expect good service. You just order food and they give it to you at the counter. I have been coming here for past 13years, they have the best Parathas.

Divine D.

Yelp
What kind of business that hangs up on you when your still talking? There's no phone etiquettes. Can only imagine what kind of customer service they provide when you are their customer when they can't be nice to a potential new customer. I asked about it they are open for dine - in and she said yes but kitchen is closed and store is open and I had a few other questions and while I'm talking to her, she hangs up!
google avatar

Madiha M.

Yelp
One stop shop for all your needs. The food is good, chaats, samosas, jalebi, namak paray etc. Everything that we have tried from here so far has been good. Great customer service and good variety of products. This is my go to place for my desi grocery needs.
google avatar

Bhumi B.

Yelp
The owner of the store talks very rudely and If you ask anything else, you do not even answer properly.
google avatar

Victor T.

Yelp
This Indian market sells everything you can think of. If your looking for something Indian you'll find it here. They also sell food to go or to dine in. The taste is average. I do like the spiciness to it. The naan seems a bit soft. I like the thinner a bit crunchy naan.
google avatar

Restaurant K.

Yelp
Off top I got a masala dosa and thali special to go. I'm from up north used to live in so cal but it's really hard to find food like this out where I live! But must say this place is very very reasonably priced!!!! I was very satisfied to bad I leave town early morning otherwise I would be there once again!!!! Great cheap food fast!!!! Vegetarian food was great loved it!!
google avatar

Queycy G.

Yelp
The guy behind the counter was very helpful and nice. Store looked very clean and they carry quite a few organic ayurvedic products which was something I have been looking for in an Indian store.

Hameeda A.

Yelp
The owners, husband and wife team are the worst as far as customer service and manners are concerned. They are extremely rude, and uncouth. It's hard to decide who is more rude between them. I am glad another store opened nearby that carries fresh and unexpired goods and who are courteous and have excellent customer service. Hope people stop patronizing this store and their awful attitude.

S P.

Yelp
It smelled awful as soon as I stepped in. The prices are higher than other Indian grocery stores, and they don't seem to have certain brands I prefer.
google avatar

Yashil V.

Yelp
This place has all your basic indian groceries and they sell other things such as festive decorations also. Their frozen food variety is very sad, they dont carry Chicken tikka! The sweets and chat dishes they make are also very average, going there to eat would be when its my last resort.
google avatar

Ze Q.

Yelp
Elders are very nice, but some of the younger males at the register have no customer experience qualities. They behave as though we are lucky to have an Indian store in the area. Sorry, but you're not the only store around. I go there if only if I'm passing by, but it's not my first choice due to to this very reason. It doesn't take much to be nice and friendly toward your customers instead of as if they are beneath you. It would've gotten a higher rating, but your customer service is not good.
google avatar

Swati T.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. They don't overwhelm you with al the spices yet keep it traditional. Love Love Love their samosas and dosa. Sweets are always tasting fresh. It is a hidden gem honestly. First time I went there was to grab a couple of spice jars and ghee but looked at the menu and realized it was so cheap. Gave it a try and nothing else's compares to their prices. Everywhere else now sounds like a rip off for the price you pay compared to here. I hope they keep their cook for a long time

KishoreKumar M.

Yelp
Very bad experience :( It's strange how people doing business can treat customers so rudely. All my wife requested "Samosa Channa Chaat" with Samosa in separate plate... and they rudely refused. It's ok if they don't want business, but they should know how to talk with the customer. Probably they don't understand how to do business. P.S. I don't see the gentleman who used to work here before. He was very nice. I hope he's reading this.

J W.

Yelp
I've been coming here for grub for over 10 years. Really great mom and pop. Customer service is weird with the younger gal at the cashier but all's good for the sake of authentic food.
google avatar

Imran K.

Yelp
This store is located in the large parking lot of Kmart. This is a large store and two wonderful people run it. I was able to found almost all the spices and foods , jams and sweets in here. Loved the Mango chutney Jar which was 3.99 awesome deal. This is close to my house and will have to come back. They had lunch special for 3-4 dollars per person. They also sell Indian sweets.

Peter S.

Yelp
ATTENTION.Filthy Unhygenic Store. When have they mopped the floor?, From the time they had the business, they have never disinfected the countertops and tabletops, mopped the floors, dusted the shelves. They have carried on their business in a filthy way they would have done in their country. While most of the American supermarkets delivering food wipe down floors, shopping carts, check out counters... owing to the corona virus epidemic, this store is remarkable that it is carrying on business as usual without taking any of the above precautions. I DO NOT KNOW WHY CITY IS SLEEPING WHEN IT SHOULD BE KEEPING AN EYE ON ALL THE INDIAN STORES THAT NOT ONLY SUPPLY GROCERY AS WELL AS READY-MADE FOOD IN PACKETS AS WELL AS HOT FOODS,AS IT IS DONE IN THIS CASE. I will report to City of Walnut! before someone catches listeria from this business.
google avatar

Tiffany C.

Yelp
The samosas here are only $1! (WHAT?!) Not to mention they're delicious any freaking time of day. We got ours freshly fried so they were piping hot in the little brown bag. Looks like a mom & pop sort of joint, which means that you don't have to be Indian to get good service, but it probably couldn't hurt either. They have literally everything under the Indian sun for sale here including frozen foods, but don't expect it to look as pristine as Ralph's or anything. I remember seeing that there's an $11 minimum for using your credit card, so be sure to have cash on you if you're just planning on a little bite.
google avatar

Ritika T.

Yelp
My parents come here a lot for their Indian grocery needs. They're typically very well stocked. The owners are pretty friendly as well. I've eaten here as well. At the back of the store, there are a few white tables. You order at the cash register and then sit anywhere there's a spot available. They'll serve you the food on paper utensils. So, it's a very casual environment to say the least. But, the food's not bad. I thought the rice was day-old though. As far as combination grocery store and restaurants go, I've definitely had better.

Yelp
This place makes me happy. On a whim my boyfriend and I decided to go grocery shopping with my mom while visiting my parents in Covina last weekend. It was a typical hole in the wall Indian grocery store...all the basic produce and goods....until I was pleasantly surprised with the fact that they also serve food. I decided to order a paratha and channa masala while I waited for my mom to finish shopping....and I am sooo happy I did because it was DELICIOUS. I also ordered a mango lassi which was one of the best I've had yet. I've already gone back 4 times since. The Puri is my favorite...I've been dreaming about it...The best part is that my whole meal cost less than $5...you can't beat that!!The people who work there are always very nice and helpful. I love this place!
