Reasonably priced for lunch. Come with "Old Fire" soup which is tasty that young kids nowadays do not know how to gather the ingredients for it's cooking. Good simple traditional old-fashioned Chinese dishes. Fresh & Fast. We had steam chicken which is soft & tender. Server changed our dirty plates, a rarity at lunch time. Good place to take your parents so they can rest an off-kitchen day. Good quality is consistent and decent serving size.

Very happy and satisfied. Great attentive service and staff were very friendly. The portions are huge and the price justified. The flavor and cooking technique was spot on and serve as a model for great Monterey Park Chinese cuisine. The 2 for 1 lobster for $11.99 w purchase of 3 entrees was a great deal!

Everything is delicious and portions generous. Great value for authentic Cantonese food...and if you are adventurous...there's frog, turtle, abalone, geoduck clam on the menu. Highly recommend!

Food here is good. I did find the bread for the Peking duck a little hard. Noise level wasnt bad for a Chinese restaurant because the have small partitioned off rooms for larger group.

Pretty good place and very good food. Some very good deals to be had here especially when they have the BOGO lobster special. The fish we got was kind of unexpected. I originally thought it was more of a stir fry as opposed to actual fried fish. But that’s my own problem for not asking. Service was good yet ok at the same time. They always seemed busy and disorganized. It was hard to get a waiter at times.

Very good Cantonese style family meal! Beef dishes are well prepared as well as other categories. Price is good for generous portion. Best deal is bogo lobster, $11.99!

First time coming here for dinner. Was seated right away. Many parking spaces. The food was good. Nothing out of the norm for your typical Chinese food. No free rice or soup. I think that's most places now. I guess inflation? If you want rice, they do charge by per person. The dishes were a good portion. The workers was quite attentive.

Such a taste of nostalgia with classic Cantonese dishes. I've always passed by this spot but finally had the chance to pop in to try their lunch specials. It's located in a plaza right next to 99 ranch market with plenty of parking. Ambience is nothing special or out of the ordinary -- just your classic no frills Cantonese restaurant. Service is as expected and honestly what I'm used to at Chinese restaurants so I have no complaints -- food came out promptly, no one was rude, but also no one being overly nice. Food: great deals on the lunch specials with a big meal. Comes with rice and soup of the day! - Soup of the day: dried bok choy soup that reminds me so much of my grandmother. It has that nutritious, sweet taste from the vegetables that doesn't feel too heavy - Peking pork chop: the flavor was good (classic sweet and tangy and savory flavor). I just wished that the pork was crispy -- the batter had softened a lot from the sauce - Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce: a classic dish, generous portions, took all the extras home - Seafood chow mein: chose the "dry style" with gravy. Had expected the bottom of the chow mein to be crispier from being pan fried but it wasn't... not sure if it's because they didn't do an adequate job of pan frying it or it just sat in the gravy too long. Otherwise the seafood was good although the squish was a bit chewy for my preference Overall, such a great deal for the portion of food for the price. Can't help but have a soft spot for Cantonese food :)

Haven't been here since childhood and see they have changed name/owner but still a great lunch deal. Some dishes are hit or miss but solid for the price. Started off with the complimentary soup and had good flavor. The eggplant mince pork with garlic was one of my top dishes there. Flavorful and soft eggplants. Shrimp with scrambled egg cooked perfectly and had flavors from the green onion. The braised pork belly was tender and tasty but personally not a huge fan of the layer of fat on it. Pork rib with spicy salt was fried crispy and had manageable fat ratio for me. Black pepper beef had soft meats and strong black pepper flavors and went will with the mushrooms. Sweet and sour fish had good sauce but the fish was soggy and there was no crisp to it at all. The scallops were very salty for me and had to eat with rice. Decent place for Chinese lunch special. Got the live fish tank around the restaurant. They have their own parking lot here but do get busy during rushes. Good service. Would come back for their specials. They also have lots of dishes with pork intestines if that is your cup of tea.

Location was easy to find, plenty of parking and staff was extremely friendly. I came here with some friends and enjoyed some dinner. We ordered a whole Peking duck. I thought the amount you got for the price you paid was decent. The duck was a little dry, but it came with the chips! The fried fish with egg was ordered wrong (my mistake because I confused it with something else, but it was still delicious! I didnt try the eggplant, but my friends enjoyed it. Rice and dessert doesnt come with the meal, but they gave it is. The restaurant was quiet and it seemed like only the private rooms had diners inside. The main floor had like one or two other parties besides us so not too busy. By the time we finished, more diners showed up. I need to come during lunch time to try their lunch specials!

Was actually meaning to go to our regular spot but there was no parking and the wait was too long so ended up resorting to Yelp for a similar place. So glad we did because it led us here. Very low key place / not fancy place. They have live fish tanks with sad looking crabs, fish etc. Immediately found parking and was promptly seated with no wait. A few sectioned off rooms for private events. Staff is nice and helpful. In fact, I looked over to get a server's attention for some napkins and a Chinese lady at a table next to me saw my eyes needing assistance so she waived over a server for me. I was shocked at her kindness and nodded my head towards her direction, thinking wow what a nice lady, never experienced that before. Well turns out she was at a table with nine other lady friends of hers and was probably the owner of the place, since she later got up and picked up someone's tab to ring out. It then all made sense why she was alert of other customer's needs. Anyhow, me and my cute date ordered the fish maw soup, steamed tilapia ($15/lb, not live), and beef noodles. Everything was very tasty, well made, especially the steamed tilapia- it was one of the best I've ever had. The smallest is about 1.5 lbs. They also offered complimentary dessert, which I did not like. It was a sweet bean dessert. Great meal. Will definitely be back to try other items. Lots of other options such as clam, oysters, live seafood- geoduck, king crab, lobster etc,, hot pot, frogs, lamb, duck, abalone, bird's nest soup $52-56, and much more that typical Chinese seafood places offer. Low key yummy food.

Food up to this point was okay. This fly maggot was cooked along with my Chinese broccoli. And I almost took a bite of it. Disgusting. Prices are outrageous too, and the owner was pushy and rude from the moment we arrived. Dish was removed from the bill but was charged double steam rice. The chow mein we also ordered was abandoned when the maggot was discovered too. I know I may upset their loyal customers but it is what it is. Will never return. I'm sharing this so the restaurant can get their act together. People can get sick eating unsanitized food.

My Mom wanted to come here for lunch to thank my brother for his help with a project. Thank you Bro and thank you Mom! We ordered 7 dishes since there were only 5 of us. When we have more people, we would order double the number. 7 was perfect! There were a couple dishes that were from the dinner menu which was fine. Their complimentary soup for lunch was amazingly tasty. Yum, they do it best! No other restaurant makes it as authentic as they do. I would order that soup to-go any day. Portions were huge. Of course, prices have gone up, but they are justified with the increase in portions. I felt like we were eating dinner portions at lunch prices. Best bang for our buck! All our dishes were very flavorful and tasty. You can't go wrong with any of their dishes really. Staff was very accommodating and attentive as always. They know us from back in the days when they were under the biz name "New Lucky". This restaurant was my Dad's favorite place to eat. We've been customers for more than 2 decades. Sometimes chatting with long-time locals in the Chinese community really does lead you to hidden gems like this. And!! This isn't the usual Cantonese seafood banquet style--it leans more toward Teochew flavors. If you only order the "young people's popular dishes," you might totally miss the real soul of the place. 【Roasted Hanging Chicken】 I originally wanted to order roast goose, but was immediately stopped because everyone said their hanging chicken is the must-get dish. The skin is super crispy and fragrant, and the inside stays juicy and glossy. I tried my best to capture how it really looks--it's so flavorful and tender! 【Salted Egg Yolk Pumpkin】 Thick salted egg yolk coating on the outside, and soft, glutinous pumpkin inside! It was my first time trying this style. 【Clams with Black Bean and Chili】 Available on their lunch special menu~ Very rich savory flavor, great with rice, and the clam pieces are big. Honestly, even coming alone, this would be such a good value. 【Garlic Crab】 This one definitely deserves a "wow!" Super meaty crab, with garlic and chili fragrance hitting together. Unlike many places where you bite in and get all shell fragments, every piece here is packed with crab meat! Perfect for group meals. 【French-style Beef Cubes】 I still remember the first time I came to LA and realized you could order French beef cubes at Cantonese seafood restaurants late at night. I've always loved it, though after I got into spicy food I stopped ordering it for a while. Their version is so good--the mushrooms and beef are both incredibly tender. 【Lucky Fried Pork Ribs】 Very much like sweet-and-sour pork! They even place pineapple underneath. Sweet and tangy with a crispy coating--kids at the table would love this. 【Taro and Ginkgo Dessert Soup】 My first time having this as a finishing dessert. The taro pieces are huge, like scoops of ice cream! It also has white fungus, red dates, and ginkgo nuts. On a winter night, this hits the spot. Aside from the flavors, they also have great lunch specials! From 12.99 to 15.99, with over sixty dishes to choose from, plus rice and soup included. Lunch special hours run from 11 AM all the way to 5 PM--such a blessing for working people! I added the menu at the end for reference. The place gets super busy, and you can tell most customers are seasoned regulars. There's really so much to discover in Los Angeles! Beyond new and trendy spots, old-school Cantonese restaurants like this remind you that the charm of comfort food never goes out of style.

We love coming here!! We also love bringing family and friends when they come in town because there is a lot of seating that can accommodate everyone. The portions are pretty good size and everything is family style. The staff is very kind and often checks up on you often. Our favorite things to get are the eggplant, tofu and pork chop. We also love the orange chicken here! There's plenty of parking outside and great private rooms if you want more intimate setting, the staff is also very accommodating if you have any dietary restrictions or wanna make any changes to any of the dishes. They also have amazing lunch specials available!!

Legit canto food, and they even gave us free tong sui even though I got food to go. Would definitely order again either in person or take out. Even though traffic took me an hour before I could dig into the heavenly food, it still tasted scrumptious. I can just imagine how delicious it would be if I had the food fresh. Got the: 1. This is a restaurant tugged at the corner of W Garvey Ave and and McPherrin Ave. Plenty of parking. The restaurant looks clean and bright. At first glance I thought this restaurant was going to be pricey. I couldn't be more wrong. Their lunch specials were very reasonable. Their prices starts from $12.99 to $16.99. Lunch includes a dish, soup (which was very good), rice and a pot of tea. The portion was generous and every dish we ordered was delicious. Our server was Ah Cheok (he didn't have an English name). He was very attentive to our needs. He refilled our tea, rice and soup without being told. It was just him and another lady counterpart and both of them took care of around 15 tables (they were full capacity and I can see why). Overall we had a really great lunch and we will be back whenever we are in the neighborhood.

Lunch special is such a good deal! For $15.99 i got a large plate of duck and tofu. Hot tea. A big bowl of white rice and a big bowl of soup that could have served 3 people. The interior is classic Chinese eatery. Fish tanks in one side of the room. Lots of space for big groups. Service was fast and no nonsense. The food is solid, not amazing but all good. My soup could have been hotter. But for the price this place is great. Big parking lot with free parking.

Very generous family size portions. Everything was fresh tasting and served hot. Speedy table service. However, they said reservations are required for groups but that wasn't explicitly stated anywhere.

After karaoke on the Christmas Day, we looked for a place for dinner. Taste of MP is close by and it was so packed at 7 pm. The wait for a table of 4 was not bad. The hostess gave us the menu so we can order first and once we have the table, the food would be served. Good suggestion! We ordered the XO sauce scallop, shrimp in black bean sauce, filet mignon with mixed mushroom, sauté pea leaf and the E-fu noodles. Everyone enjoyed the dinner and we had leftovers for lunch. Like any Chinese restaurant, the service was fast and pricing was reasonable. We will come back for my delicious food for sure.

I think this place should get a strong mention due to their string beans. Nice subtle flavor, good wok-he. The lunch special price/portion is a great ratio. This time, the clams were too sandy, with at least 3-4 not open. The servers were courteous and food came quickly.

This is our go to chinese restaurant for special occasions and weekend dining. The best chinese restaurant in LA!! The manager really takes good care of regular customers!! Live seafood and specialty dishes and even lunch specials are all so delicious! Price is reasonable for the quality of food. So if you like authentic cantonese food, this is the place

We came here for mid-autumn day dinner. It was just the two of us but there was plenty of families around, so the festive atmosphere was wonderful. We got pretty simple dishes: yang chow fried rice (we always get this at Chinese places), sweet & sour spare ribs, and salted fish eggplant (my fav Canto dish while growing up). The portions are pretty big, service is fast and welcoming, and they gave us 糖水 some red bean dessert at the end. My husband drank the whole serving pot because he has a sweet tooth. We had the leftovers for lunch the next day, and it was so good! Love this traditional place with hometown vibes, we recommend!

We went for a dinner party hosted by someone else. They mentioned that there's no reservation fee for the private room which sits 2 tables (20 people) comfortably. The food is great and service is quick too. We were there for about 2 hours and no one rushed us. The room is nice since we were able to carry a conversation easily without the outside noise. But at the end of our meal, other guests showed up. We didn't mind since we were leaving anyways, but it would be nice for the restaurant staff to give us a heads up.

For now I'd give this place a 3.5, but in looking back on other people's reviews and pictures maybe we could've ordered better. This place is located on its own lot with private parking but during lunch rush it is packed! The streets near by are also packed, but you might get lucky with parking across the Main Street. They have a couple of private rooms of various sizes along with a medium sized main dining area for regular diners. Don't expect peace and quiet with your meal during lunch rush lol. Was here for a celebration and appreciate the blocked off private room. The majority of food we ordered was based on the recommendation of the server, in looking back we may have had more luck checking Yelp. The best dishes were the filet mignon (flavorful sauce with lots of mushroom and onion) and deep fried calamari. The crispy noodle chow mein was good too. We didn't enjoy the whole fried chicken much; the fried rice and honey walnut shrimp were pretty standard, don't think I'd order those again. We will see if we end up coming back again. Maybe, just to try different dishes during the lunch specials.

I came here with the family for lunch. We were lucky to find available parking spaces since the lot wasn't too big, and it is a busy spot for lunch. Interior is very nice, and they have rooms if you want to have a private party. When we sat down, they gave us a big bowl of soup while we looked at the menu. They have lunch specials for selected items. We ordered the Yang Chow Fried Rice, Honey Walnut Shrimp (a must when we eat at a Chinese restaurant), Seafood with Bean Curd, and House Special Chicken. Portions were big, and there was plenty of leftovers. It came with white rice, so we didn't actually need to order the fried rice. The food came out faster than I thought they would. The food was delicious, especially the bean curd that had meat in the dish. Honey walnut shrimp was a real hit. Chicken was so-so, not as flavorful as other places. Overall, service was good, and price was good for how much food there was.

My family and I have been coming here since it was New Lucky. The staff are so welcoming. The food is delicious and affordable. I love the Beef Chow Fun (dry style) and Chinese Broccoli with Oyster Sauce. The inside of the restaurant was clean and the staff worked quickly. We got our food about ten minutes after we ordered. Overall, this restaurant is a must-try and I would definitely recommend.

My family and I recently came here for lunch and really enjoyed our meal. We arrived on a Saturday morning shortly after they opened at 11 and we were the first guests seated. They have a large parking lot. We routed via Google Maps and were looking for a restaurant called New Lucky Seafood Restaurant, but I guess Taste of MP is the new name. It's confusing that both are listed on Google. Thank goodness the Chinese name is still the same, otherwise we would've driven right past it. The restaurant was a bit smaller inside than I expected, more long than wide, and had a bunch of private rooms. There's no dimsum here, only ordering dishes, which is exactly what we were looking for. Somehow it's really hard to find a Cantonese restaurant where you can order dishes for lunch. They offer lunch specials everyday from 11-5 pm ranging from $12.99 to $15.99. The regular menu is huge and has a wide variety of beef and seafood dishes, including live seafood like fish, crab, and lobster as well as "fancy" stuff like abalone and bird's nest. For the 4 of us, we ordered 5 dishes total, 3 dishes from the lunch special menu and 2 from the regular menu to share (* marks our favorites): Complimentary pork bone soup - really appreciate having a bowl of hot soup to start the meal. We asked for seconds to end the meal as well * Pork belly with preserved vegetables ($15.99) - good mix of less fatty and more fatty pork belly pieces, flavors were really good and went well with rice Kung pao chicken ($13.99) - okay but nothing amazing Chicken chow fun ($14.99) - chicken was well flavored but rice noodles were pretty bland * French style beef stirfry ($22.99) - beef was flavorful and super tender * Live dungeness crab stir fried with ginger and green onion ($22/lb for $55 total) - can't beat live crab!! They only charged us for the dishes and not for the tea or the rice. We had a ton of leftovers at the end of the meal which we took home and ate over the next couple days. Overall we were very satisfied with this spot and will definitely come back!

EVERY family gathering, seems like my older sister really likes this place. They provide such great service for our family and if not busy, they would give us the room as well. We usually order lots of items for a group of 8 and gets quite full here. The dishes that I love the most is the filet mignon and also their honey walnut shrimp !! I think this what's to be the best honey walnut shrimp I ever had compared to anywhere else. Trust me, I eat also of honey walnut shrimp dish! Beside this dish, we also got a fried fish which I really liked! I would also say the plaza is huge and parking is easy and if there isn't there's plenty of street parking and we didn't have any issues with it. I would also suggest to try their dessert that they give after the meal a bit sweet for me but my family loves it! Next time, I would want to try their Peking duck.

My friends and I were craving Chinese food, and we settled on Taste of MP. Ordering is easy in Cantonese or Mandarin, but sometimes there may be mistranslations. The entrees that we ordered meets standards but wasn't the most tasty. Watercress Soup: Our group understood the description as fish balls, but these were more like dough-heavy fish patties. They tasted quite weird and a tad sour. The taste also blended into the soup, and it was not tasty. Yang Chow Fried Rice: This was a tasty dish, and the salted fish made this nice. It was a tad too salty, but overall no complaints on this one! Salted Fish with Eggplant: On first sight, this dish looked amazing, but after a few more bites, it got old real quick. The eggplant has no skin, and it is quite limp, making it awkward and too mushy to eat. Salt and Pepper Pork: This dish is a staple, but the one served here was quite mushy with not enough fry. Additionally, it didn't have much of the salt / pepper taste, and this was not a hit with us. French Style Filet Mignon: This dish was very mushy / slightly overcooked with little sear. Overall, it was quite salty and sweet with not enough of a kick from the pepper / spice. Green Beans: Like the other dishes, this, too, was mushy with no crisp. The waiters were present and attentive, but the food itself was not impressive.

Went to celebrate my wife's Birthday with friends & family; we were greeted with a smile and welcoming feeling. The service provide was top notch and the food was outstanding. The ambience is superb; with everyone providing us nothing less than VIP service. Thank You to the management and servers for providing us with excellence. We will definitely be back.

When you're coming with a large party, don't hesitate to try this place! Chinese food is always better with more people; more dishes, more variety! My favorite dish here is the chicken soup. Tastes so good and comes in a big enough pot to go around! If it's busy, it can definitely get a little loud. The restaurant is on the smaller side and the staff can get busy. It's better if you go with someone who can speak Cantonese/Mandarin to flag down the staff.

Wow, the whole crispy piglet. Everyone loved (party of 20)...I tried a piece and I could see why-- skin very crispy, meat succulent...it comes with the head so don't freak out. It's Cantonese style cuisine and proof you got what you paid for head to tail. We were in a private dining room (free!!)...and the area is flexible so can be adjusted to accommodate (we were only two tables) ....my 97- year-old aunt loved her surprise bday banquet ....instead of a package banquet menu (of course they have preset menus) My cousins ordered just favorite foods....but the highlight was the roasted whole piglet. Everyone also enjoyed all things seafood...including a shrimp and candied walnuts dish. By how fast the platter emptied, everyone loved the French style steak with button mushrooms. For birthdays, they also served a bun in the shape of a peach. Very pretty, the paste inside resembles the stuff inside a sesame ball, but not sweet. The place isn't fancy, but the food is authentic and your tummy will be happy. Highly recommend. The owner comes around personally to greet you and gently chastised you for not coming around more often....I don't know how to say in Cantonese " I'm bicoastal and sometimes I'm in Boston." But it's nice she remembers me from when I organized my own moms milestone bday banquet there...from at least three years ago!!! Damn, she's got a good memory!!

I ate at this place with other coworkers for our Christmas lunch and the food was so delicious that myself and another coworker went back here the following day. The first day I was here we had our office manager order the food since he is Chinese and has eaten here before, he suggested that we order different types of dishes and try a little of each and I am glad that we did and so was the other ten coworkers. It was my first time ever to try ToFu and it was delicious. I had never eaten it before, but I am glad that I tried it. Also I had tried the Eggplant and that too was very tasty at this place. I had it before and it wasn't and probably that person didn't know how to properly prepare it. We also had several other dishes and one was the scrambled eggs with shrimp and that was very tasty we also had the string beans with chicken and there were a couple of spicy dishes and I just have never been able to handle spicy food. All the food was really great tasting. In the beginning the meal comes with soup and tea is at no charge and also white rice. All of us just drank ice water. I highly recommend this place to others.

This wasn't our first option, but we ended up loving the food! It was delicious, tasty, and the interior gives off a banquet style Chinese restaurant reminiscent of the 90's and early 2000's. It's definitely off the beaten path a little bit, but worth a try if other restaurants are too crowded

This might be my go-to Canto restaurant in SGV now. They serve family style Chinese food, pack the food leftovers food for you, and even serve dessert after the meal! They do charge for white rice per adult. Apparently they've switched owners several times, so I hope they can still stick around. This place is special because half of the interior got converted to private rooms separated by floor-to-ceiling dividers. The other side is the kitchen and glass aquariums with live sea creatures (lobster, fish, etc). I highly recommend coming here with at least a group of four. That way you can order a minimum of four dishes to try - seafood, beef, pork, and chicken! I'm too poor for market priced lobster, but I was satisfied with everything else on the menu.

We ordered to go this time. Diced filet mignon French style (very tender), minced beef soup ( lots of beef),chicken with garlic sauce (hmmm, this is okay), shrimp fried rice (good but very few, was only 2/4 filled of the container), and eggplant Szechuan style (love this dish). I phoned in our order and the person was very nice. My family enjoyed the meal except each of us got a few spoonful of the shrimp fried rice.

They were so bad that my mom sent back a plate...that's almost unheard of for her...it might have been the 1st dish she's ever sent back...and I have yet to experience her 2nd. Their plain bone in chicken is VERY good here. My niece and I spent the whole day gorging on different types of food since she was only here for 2 days and we told her mom that we would only eat a few bites and dinner and we couldn't stop ourselves from eating more than we planned to. Everything we ordered tasted pretty good and the portion sizes were nice and big. They're back on my mother's good list again!

Came to celebrate my wonderful daughter birthday. The food is delicious and service was excellent. Lobsters dish and steam fishes were BIG hit. Highly recommend this restaurant We will come back again.

Still love this place. Tonight (it's Monday) I called in my order around 740pm and I ordered the chicken w garlic sauce, the braised tofu w brown sauce, and of course my honey walnut shrimp. I didn't pick it up until around 9.20pm and I'm glad I came late cause I think that's when they were starting to die down and Lina and a few other of the workers were soooooooooo nice and she was apologizing for not being able to hear over the phone earlier cause it was so busy but I didn't mind and they even hooked me up w some extra goodies without me asking and I am so thankful for not only their delicious food but their kindness :) it was Lina and another lady and a guy, wasn't able to get their names. I got so much food from here today that on the way back home my car wouldn't stop beeping because it thought my food was a whole passenger even when I took some stuff off it. Delicious as always, I inhaled a huge bowl of it as soon as I got home in under five to ten minutes i couldn't wait, I couldn't even wait to put my purse/bag down and had it across my shoulder while I inhaled the whole bowl standing up. Yes.... I am so satisfied.

This was my first time coming here for lunch and I gotta say I was pretty impressed for what you get. Taste of MP falls into the category of the old school Cantonese Chinese restaurants that include free soup and free rice. These kinda of restaurants are a dying breed and I'm glad this one exists. Compared to other restaurants that offer free soup and rice, this one is one of the most high end ones. For one, the free soup was actually really good and the free rice was fresh. I've only tried the lunch specials but everything I ordered tasted very good. The portion sizing big, I would say one entree per person on your table if you have big eaters. My favorite is the braised bean curd with brown sauce. It's not too sweet and not too salty. The string bean chicken was a hit. It was crunchy and crispy. It was the first dish in our table to get devoured. We ordered a lot of high protein low carb items and it worked out great. Service here is decent, the wait staff walk around quite often in case you needed anything. The staff helped us pour the soup in our bowls initially. The interior of the place isn't run down but it does have like a high end Chinese restaurant vibe from the mid 2000s. Don't expect like a Haidilao interior. This place does have private rooms in case that's something you want. Parking for the place is pretty easy. It has a very big lot. Caution of the curb exiting to Garvey, it's a bit steep so you need to be careful if you have a low car. Overall, I recommend this place. The food is good, the price is good (for our economy), interior is decently nice, and they also accept Credit Cards. For the lunch specials, it's hard to beat.

Man, the food is good here. Located on one of the main strips on Valley Boulevard in Monterey Park lies this gem of a Chinese restaurant. There is a lot and plenty of street parking. I will say that they are swamped on weekend evenings, so expect a lengthy wait. I do not know if you can call and make a reservation. Almost all the tables are for huge parties, too, so the people eating here are going in with a large party to have a long, fun meal, meaning tables don't flip all that quickly. Staff was perfectly fine, though with so many people to feed, the numerous servers do seem pushed to the limit no matter how many of them are working. But, let's discuss the food. The kung pao chicken is white meat, in case you are wondering, which I love. The taste is excellent. The dry sautéed string beans with pickled olives and pork are also truly fantastic. The house special crab was a deal at $22/lb. and starting at 2 1/2 pounds, which was enough for the missus and I. They seemed to only have red wine by the glass when I went, even though I would've preferred white, but the pour was large, which is a bonus. The only dish I was underwhelmed by was the yang chow fried rice. It was good, but I prefer my fried rice made with dark soy sauce and this is made with light soy sauce, which leads to a much more delicate but in my opinion blander flavor. Also wish they had potstickers and/or scallion pancakes. I'd like to try the squab lettuce cups next time. All in all, I was very impressed with the flavors and quality of the food. I will not hesitate to come back, but probably will do so on a weeknight instead of the weekend, or at least come early on a weekend. Definitely give them a try!

Went here for dinner around 5 :15 pm on a Friday so there is no wait. It's your typical Chinese restaurant with all time Chinese favorites. Everything tasted authentic. Server Tony was very pleasant . Serving size is plenty and we have lots of leftover . Our bill was $66 for 3 dishes plus tip. Dessert is free. The restaurant is spacious and clean . They have private rooms .

Every time my family is in town, we'd crave the chicken soup. It's so good that we would get some to head back home with. The egg yolk crusted pumpkin is also really good! This place is a 10/10 for price, quality and service! Bonus point for the free peanuts as appetizers!

Disappointed!!! We took our father here today to beat early Father's Day crowds. My father is in a wheelchair, and as soon as one of the waiter saw he rudely said "you didn't tell me you have a wheelchair" and implied that he would need to turn us away. How is this acceptable? He simply just needed to move the foldable wall to create more space, which he did begrudgingly. He had an attitude the whole time. On top of that, the food is below average. Save your time and energy and give your business to the other great restaurants in the area.

This place is outstanding! Great food and most importantly great service. Staff was very friendly and accommodating to our party of 12. Attentive and patient which is usually not the case for most Chinese restaurants. All of the dishes tasted great. Some included: XO Chow Mein, filet mignon, deep fried tofu, string beans with garlic, honey walnut shrimp, fish filet with black bean sauce, just to name a few. A couple of the dishes I ordered weren't exactly on the menu, but they were flexible and made it the way I asked for. This may sound weird but I always look at how clean or dirty the carpet is. Some restaurants are just disgusting and I feel like I can smell the carpet while I'm eating. Haha. But this place was clean. This will probably be our new go-to spot when we're going out as a big group.

Tasty Cantonese food for a very good price! Warnings: they no longer have any traditional chile oil. Sriracha only- which I don't ever use with Cantonese food. Our party of 5 ordered the pork belly over greens, whole fried fish, mixed vegetables with lotus root and wood ear mushroom, beef with wide noodles and bean sprouts, sweet and sour pork chops, and eggplant with minced pork. The eggplant was my favorite. If you grew up with typical Cantonese American dishes, then this is a very nostalgic, homey and dependable place to dine. You will leave stuffed like we did! This place has changed ownership but the food is just the same. The main difference is the private party rooms that line one wall. Solid prompt service, easy parking.

This restaurant is all-around great for an affordable dinner with delicious classic Chinese dishes. I think every dish I've ordered has come out hot and tasty, which is a rarity for most Chinese restaurants. From the beef filet mignon to the pea sprouts, everything was full of flavor with the perfect textures as well. One of my personal favorites that I don't see often at other restaurants is the Fried Pumpkin, which has a nice chalky-textured, pumpkin-flavored dish that will leave you wanting more. The space isn't huge but there are a couple of private rooms, I believe. All of the staff is super friendly and parking is pretty easy, although can get crowded at times.

Tasty dishes with incredibly nice customer service. Stopped by here for some lunch specials. Saw a few novel things to try, including the steamed chicken and dates dish. Very good dish indeed! Even dishes we were already familiar with did not disappoint. We enjoyed the flavors but what really blew us away was the especially nice service from the staff. One of the waitresses noticed I really enjoyed the soup that comes with the lunch special so she brought out extra for us and later offered to pack some up for us as we were packing up leftovers, which we gladly accepted. How nice is that?? Definitely coming back when we're back in the area.

Celebrated the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Dragon with a large group at Taste of MP that did not disappoint in executing authentic Cantonese cuisine. Even with a packed house, the chefs were able to grind out delicious food in a reasonable time. As the party arrived, complementary peanuts and cucumber salad were provided as starters. We ordered a number of dishes for dinner that were highly enjoyable. Noteworthy dishes were the truffle chicken, a reasonably priced ($48) Peking duck, egg yolk coated fried pumpkin sticks and spicy eggplant. A couple of misses were the minced squab in lettuce cup which was bland and the overpriced ($144) whole steamed live red cod fish. To end the meal, a complimentary sweet red bean soup was served. Service was reasonably good as we were able to secure a private dining room for the group. There were a number of large parties including ours which could have overwhelmed the kitchen, but it was able to reasonably pace service throughout the meal to our satisfaction. The parking lot can get full quickly, but street parking is plentiful. Taste of MP remains a solid Cantonese restaurant that definitely should not be missed. I will certainly be back for an enjoyable and very satisfying meal.

I am giving this restaurant high praise because the food is fantastic and surprisingly for an Asian restaurant, the service is excellent. Few notes to set some context, even though I am ABC, I've traveled to Hong Kong, Macau, and various parts of Mainland China (Beijing, Shang Hai, Xian, Cheng Du, XiaMen, etc). Yes, I eat authentic Chinese food, but I still eat Panda Express. I am able to compartmentalize my cuisine based on location. For Taste of MP, I would club them to restaurants like Henry's Cuisine, Boston Lobster, Delicious food corner, and Top Island. Since I have given a strong feedback for Henry's Cuisine in the past, i am now giving Taste of MP the mantle as of 2025. For food-wise, here are my comments: I think the lobster is fantastic and is somewhat comparable to Boston Lobster. I would still argue Boston lobster or Newport may be better but not by much. Crispy Chicken - I would highly recommend this dish. The chicken is tender and the outside is quite crispy. Beef Cubes - this one is fantastic. My dad is much older now so he cannot eat hard texture. But the beef cubes are nice and tender. Fried Pumpkin with Dan Huang (egg yolk) - this is one is part of the chefs special list. This one is also delicious. Crab with Dan Huang - also part of chefs special which is what I would recommend as well. Kung pao chicken - we ordered this for my niece and nephew who are more ABC than I am. This one wasn't bad. Spareribs (jing du pai gu) - my wife (from Taiwan) typically hates these kind of Americanized dishes. She does not Ike the tangy stuff like sweet and sour or general tso chicken. BUT, she at the least acknowledges this dish was not bad so I give taste of MP kudos for this. Anyway, they have other notable items, but like I said this restaurant is fantastic. For service, the staff members are so nice. They also helped us put stuff away and change out our plates regularly. One side note is that you can reserve a private room if you have a larger party. In my case we had about 12 people so we called in advance to book a room. Just one note is that you need to spend over $300 (if i remembered correctly) for the private rooms, which is not a hard thing to do for a large group.

An old school Cantonese banquet place. The staff are super nice and the service excellent, though they are somewhat overworked when it's busy. The food is amazing. You can order roast duck as Peking duck whole, or roast duck whole or half which is the duck only with no buns. When ordered peking style I wish the skin was crispier, but the taste is definitely there. The roast duck is great. I always order chow mein with beef- Cantonese twice fried style (leung mein wong). The beef and string beans dish and the string beans with ground pork dish are both excellent. They give you peanuts to snack on as you order, and Chinese dessert at the end which is usually a sweet soup with mung bean or squash. Monterey Park used to have many Cantonese banquet restaurants, however many closed during covid. I'm glad this place survived (had a different name before, but some of the staff have been there for thirty years). Definitely would recommend!!
