When my friend and I go out to lunch, he always insists on coming to this place. I don't know why. The service was fast and friendly but the food? Not good, not good at all.
There's two sides to the restaurant - the booth side which has some nice wooden booths and the other side which is, minimalistic to put it nicely. No sign of it being a Mexican restaurant with a minute amount of Mexican decorations, no music and/or TV stations.
The chips are bite-sized which is nice, the bean dip was solid as they put red sauce and cheese on top but the salsa was mediocre.
He ordered a combo meal, which he liked.
I ordered the compadre meal. The presentation was sloppy as the burritos (I didn't know they weren't wet or covered) weren't rolled with any sense of pride as they were loosely rolled then thrown on the plate. Inside there was shredded chicken (dry), pork or beef (dry) and chorizo with egg (very dry). The burritos were simply the filling and tortilla - no cheese, no sauce, no pico, no meat drippings, nothing - just dried fillings. I should've requested some sour cream, queso dip or more salsa to put on them but I didn't. The beans were okay and the rice was slightly better. The rice was the best part of my meal by default, because everything else was just shy of terrible.
They have canned sodas. I had a MUG root beer.
It's a 30 minute drive to get here and for the life of me, I don't understand the appeal. I'm sure my friend will insist we come here next time and if I can't convince him to go somewhere else, I'll try something else on the menu. Maybe then I'll find something that resembles good Mexican food.
If it was just me, I would actively avoid this place.
