I have been going to this restaurant since it was a small, hole in the wall, over 30 years, always with a long line. Several years ago they expanded including adding a patio area. I still like sitting in the original area. You are greated with chips, salsa and bean dip. They take your order and 5 minutes later, your food is being served to you. I had the Super Burrito, steak and my daughter had the bean and cheese burrito. Everytingg was delicious. Top notch. You wont find any Mexican food better anywhere in the area. The food along with 2 sodas came to only $17. These days a meal at a fast food restaurant cost you over $20. Here, you get free appetizers, delicious food and you are served, not going through a drive through. Go here. I promise you won't be disappointed.

8.3 💥 I was in the mood for some Mexican food and decided to try out New Mecca Cafe and this place did not disappoint. The service was awesome, the atmosphere was vibrant and the food was delicious. I love the portion of food given and the chip bean dip was perfect. If you are in the Pittsburg area check this place out. 💥

Google
Solid American style Mexican food. I ordered the crispy chicken flautas with the side, rice and beans. The highlight for me was the chips and dips that they bring out before the food. Would definitely come again.

Delicious food and genuinely the friendliest service! Every bite was flavorful, fresh, and authentically prepared—we’re still talking about it. Even the half-portion was generous enough for leftovers! What made the experience even more meaningful was the beautiful artwork by Acosta on display. It’s deeply personal, telling the story of my friend’s grandfather—his heritage, hardship, and heart. It adds such richness to the atmosphere and reflects the authenticity of this place. An unforgettable meal in every sense. Highly recommend! 🙌

My husband and I patronized New Mecca today to purchase some Mexican food to watch the 49er game. Huge disappointment 😞. I ordered the New Mecca Special Plate #3. Horrible! The Chile Relleno had a big hunk of cheese in the middle( appeared to be frozen and not cook throughly). The 2 ground beef tacos tasted like the meat was soaking in water( no flavor). My husband's large deluxe nachos, he stated that they ""suck". We drove from Antioch to Pittsburgh. We get home to eat our food and watch the game. After taking 2 bites I immediately called the restaurant to speak to the manager. He offered that I drive back to the restaurant, miss the game, never offered to refund my money, and stated that I can order something else 🫩. Why would I do that? I was introduced to New Mecca back in 2023, the food was decent. Today was our first time going back after a couple of years. Huge disappointment. I Will never return. They just lost 2 good patrons! We are huge foodies.

New Mecca Café has a long history in the community and I’m happy I finally got to try it! From the moment we sat down, we were treated to their famous bean dip, which was so good we couldn’t stop eating it—we went through multiple portions! For our meals, I ordered the Lengua in Ranchero sauce with a side of rice and beans, and it was absolutely flavorful—the meat was tender and soaked up the perfect amount of sauce. My son had the chicken flauta, which was crispy, well-seasoned, and delicious. My daughter ordered a quesadilla, and she ate it right up—always a good sign! My wife went with the chicken tacos, and they were perfectly crispy and packed with flavor. The portions were generous, the flavors were spot on, and the service was warm and welcoming. I really enjoyed the experience and finally getting to try this place!

Google
This is one of the staple restaurants in the area and rightfully so. This is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant. The food, the quality and the quality of service is always great and reliable. The staff here is so kind and friendly. The food is amazing, and for my fellow vegetarians, a restaurant we can eat at! Both the rice and beans are vegetarian which isn’t always common in Mexican restaurants so I appreciate that. This is one of those restaurants that you just keep coming back to :)

Google
Wow! Spectacular Mexican food, especially the free bean dip & the Police Special.

Yelp
i came in with a friend for a good hamburger! i had lived around this area in Pittsburg about 10 years ago, and it definitely has developed in this area these past years, with much more restaurants and spots opening im glad they still have their great bean dip, and customer service was nice from the jump. i ordered a classic cheeseburger, and it was delish!

Yelp
When my friend and I go out to lunch, he always insists on coming to this place. I don't know why. The service was fast and friendly but the food? Not good, not good at all. There's two sides to the restaurant - the booth side which has some nice wooden booths and the other side which is, minimalistic to put it nicely. No sign of it being a Mexican restaurant with a minute amount of Mexican decorations, no music and/or TV stations. The chips are bite-sized which is nice, the bean dip was solid as they put red sauce and cheese on top but the salsa was mediocre. He ordered a combo meal, which he liked. I ordered the compadre meal. The presentation was sloppy as the burritos (I didn't know they weren't wet or covered) weren't rolled with any sense of pride as they were loosely rolled then thrown on the plate. Inside there was shredded chicken (dry), pork or beef (dry) and chorizo with egg (very dry). The burritos were simply the filling and tortilla - no cheese, no sauce, no pico, no meat drippings, nothing - just dried fillings. I should've requested some sour cream, queso dip or more salsa to put on them but I didn't. The beans were okay and the rice was slightly better. The rice was the best part of my meal by default, because everything else was just shy of terrible. They have canned sodas. I had a MUG root beer. It's a 30 minute drive to get here and for the life of me, I don't understand the appeal. I'm sure my friend will insist we come here next time and if I can't convince him to go somewhere else, I'll try something else on the menu. Maybe then I'll find something that resembles good Mexican food. If it was just me, I would actively avoid this place.

Yelp
This place is always on our "stop" list here We love the feels and it is a stable in the community. Collective agreement is that the place has changed over time. The food is not what it used to be and was disappointing:( It was great to run into one of our favorite servers and she makes the experience. The ambiance has changed over time as well

Yelp
I had a fantastic experience at the new Mecca Cafe! The waiters are incredibly nice and friendly, making you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. The place is spotless and very clean, which is always a plus. They also have bathrooms that are well-maintained and clean, adding to the overall comfort. It's such an amazing little spot with affordable prices, making it perfect for a quick and delicious meal. Today, I tried their grilled cheese, and it was absolutely amazing! Definitely a place I'll be returning to. Highly recommend!

Yelp
It seems that the Mecca is taking customer feedback seriously and is adjusting accordingly. I went back today and the flavor was much closer to the classic taste. I heard from the owner as well and they definitely appreciate hearing from the guests so they are aware. This is a mark of a great business. I'll be back again soon. (I also tried the enchiladas rancheros for the first time- YUM).

Yelp
I am updating my review from 15 yrs ago. I have eaten here several times since my last review and I must say the food is back to being delicious again. The service however can be a lot better. Our waitress wasn't very attentive, but that can be an easy fix by management. I love how they expanded the restaurant even bigger and there are 2 different dining areas you can be seated at.
google avatar

Ashley W.

Yelp
You truly don't know what you got till it's gone. Born and raised in Pittsburg and didn't appreciate the Mecca right down the street until I moved away. Now I'm a state away and somewhat glad or else I'd be eating here frequently. The best parts about the New Mecca: local eats, several options, have it your way, and the best bean dip! They had great service, checked on us frequently, let us customize our dishes, and were very patient with the family and two loud and wild toddlers. The tastes and vibes were great, no place like home with the good eats of the New Mecca.
google avatar

Geena B.

Yelp
I love the vibes in this restaurant. It definitely felt like walking to an establishment with lots of history. If only the walls could talk! We came here with a larger party around 9pm. We got seated quickly and were given lots of great suggestions on what items were most popular. SO and I got the flautas plate and one of the combo plates. Everyone loved the flour tortilla chips and the bean and cheese dip and salsa we enjoyed from the beginning of the meal. I'd love to come here again and try more things!
google avatar

Nadia M.

Yelp
I made a order on the phone for pick up and when I got there, it was a totally different price than what they quoted me on the phone then I got nachos and they weren't good. I didn't like them. I don't know. It was just a weird beans and they're weird and I normally get like the vegetarian nachos and these weren't that great the service it was OK. The Ambiance is a little outdated I would say but the service was just OK to me. I don't think I'd go there again.
google avatar

Deb L.

Yelp
The service friendly and helpful, the ambiance nostalgic on the old original side and open and light on the new side. I have my favorites and they aim to please
google avatar

Gabriel L.

Yelp
I have been a customer for my entire 55 years and they charged me for salsa last night which has always been included....they told me I would have to pay for anything over six....I felt offended and unaporeciated....we have been loyal to this business and we like it like it's been....don't be petty to your loyal customers...what a shame....no bueno!!! GUILLERMO WOULD BE MAD!!!

Jamshid F.

Yelp
One of the worst food I ever had I can't stop using the RESTROOM It's been 24 hours and I feel like I've been living in the bathroom .... Contact Casa health department should definitely. CHECK THEM OUT ... .. This was the last place this was the only place I eat on Black Friday their steak taco corn Asada I had a single bite and I was disgusted and a wet super burrito ... I feel nauseous even writing this this please as where you take your enemies to This place need to be CLOSED
google avatar

Cheryl G.

Yelp
I've been introduced to New Mecca through work catering event. This was my first timing dining in and everything is delicious. The old school diner charm with all the classic Mexican dishes you love. My favorites are the crispy beef tacos, bean dip and enchiladas. I've always said you can tell how good a place is by how cheap there napkins are. This place does not disappoint. They open at 10am and are closed on Wednesdays.

Yelp
I heard about this restaurant from a local FB group in Solano County and since I had some business here in Pittsburgh CA I decided to come and try. I ordered the Chicken Taco, Chicken enchilada, and Chili Rellano with rice and beans. The food is exceptional with very large portions. I was so impressed that I ordered the Super Chicken Burrito to take home. I will definitely bookmark this for a future visit.
google avatar

Rosa P.

Yelp
The worst food ever not worth the money this was eggs rancheros eggs, overcooked and too salty

Betty D.

Yelp
Delicious Mexican food and a very friendly environment. Excellent customer services.
google avatar

Anthony D.

Yelp
Go to Taco Bell. Burritos are tiny. Smallest burrito I ever bought. My wife and I were excited to try this place for the first time. I was so disappointed to find that my 10.95 burrito was smaller than my 6 inch iPhone. Spent $30 here too and left a tip. Never coming back again!!! Stay away
google avatar

William D.

Yelp
I have been eating at this establishment since 1977. The Mexican restaurant litmus test for me is the chili rellenos and literary have ordered the dozens of times. I have not found a spot that makes them better than these. Thiers are hand dipped, lightly battered, and covered in sauted bell peppers and onions . Effing delicious, the Mrs & I believe we have ordered this meal 40 plus time at the Meeca over the years, the best! Pro tip: Ask for the flour corn chips(not on the menu)

Matthew C.

Yelp
The ambiance resembled a nostalgic 90's era. I think this restaurant aged gracefully. My waitress had a positive attitude and seemed very nice. Now the food was solid. I'd give it 8.5/10. The rice and beans cooked well. The enchiladas were the best for me. For the price? You can't beat it.

Yelp
Haven't visited the Mecca in awhile. Decided to go for lunch with my wife. Still the same grubbin food. I wish the outside dining was open but it's all good. Maybe it is, it just wasn't available when we went there. Other than that, go there and enjoy a Pittsburg staple
google avatar

Jerry G.

Yelp
Always a good hometown feeling been going here for 30+ years food's always great. I always get my favorite chicken Asada and people drive miles just to pick up the Chilaquiles.

Yelp
Came here with my family for lunch on Sunday. It is a cute place downtown and the outside and interior is just like a retro diner. The place was busy, but there was an open booth we were able to sit at. The seating is separated into two rooms and there are bathrooms on both sides. They give you two different kinds of tortilla chips with Pico de Gallo and gravy with beans as the dip when you are seated. I ordered the beef quesadilla with a side of rice and beans. Of course after eating the chips and salsa and asking for seconds, I was pretty full by the time our food arrived! The quesadilla was stuffed with beef and cheese and the sides were generously portioned. I couldn't finish it so I took it home to eat for dinner! The Super Burrito was huge and definitely enough to share or take home for later. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating when we had to switch out an order from it being too dry. Tip! If you want chicken as your choice of meat in a burrito or quesadilla, don't get the grilled chicken. If you want something with sauce, get the shredded chicken! Overall a great experience and everyone enjoyed their food! Will definitely be back again!

Michelle C.

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal Mexican restaurant. The food was so good and so authentic I couldn't get enough. The ambience is really cool with a newer and older part and beautiful details throughout. This would've been a 5 star review if not for the service. We waited a considerable amount of time before even getting our drink order in and they weren't very busy. Otherwise this place is one of my new favorites!!
google avatar

Meg P.

Yelp
I grew up eating here. The food and vibes are always amazing!!! Best chips and bean dip ever! And don't get me started on the pork burrito dinner with a salad (my dads absolute favorite when he was alive) Absolutely amazing and highly recommended.
google avatar

Pricilia A.

Yelp
I have been going to this restaurant for 40+ years. The quality has always been great. My go-to is the ground beef tacos ... Nice and juicy and delicious

Sheila S.

Yelp
Always comforting to me as I have been eating here since I was little. Never disappointed in the food. (Burritos, enchiladas, tostadas, soups, bean dip, flautas, Chilaquiles just to name a few!) Depending on how busy it is, it might take a bit to get your order. But staff is always friendly. And hey, you have bean dip! Again, depending on how busy it is, it could get loud, but you came here for the food so enjoy it!
google avatar

Yelp
Exactly what I expected every single time. A family go to for all occasions big and small. Whatever you need catering take out whatever these are guys always so good!

Catherine B.

Yelp
I live the New Mecca. This business has been in the same spit over 70 years. Prices are very reasonable. Food is terrific. Never disappoints. The staff are friendly and efficient There can be a wait as they are so popular
google avatar

Jannie L.

Yelp
Please bring back the original hot chile sauce!!! We always enjoyed the original recipe. New management!
google avatar

Rhett R.

Yelp
Stopped by here Friday night. It wasn't too busy for a Friday. The food was good, but the service was absolutely horrible! We waited a long time to get menus, have our order taken, and get our bill. I don't know if it was just our waitress because it seemed like the others were hustling. I also don't like that they are not using all of their space for tables. Covid is over and they have not returned to normal functioning. This used to be a great place and now it's just mediocre.
google avatar

Olga R.

Yelp
The New Meca has been located in the heart of Pittsburg throughout generations. They served Mexican food, as soon as you arrived the waitress serves you salsa, bean dip and chips at no cost. The service it's ok,nothing impressive, they got our order correct, however once they served you, they don't come back to check on you for refills or anything. They do stay busy with locals and regular customers. The food is ok, I had a chimichanga and the meat was tender but burned ... they don't offer aguas frescas, they only carry can sodas. Parking is outside on the street.

Amber E.

Yelp
Service was poor and food was awful. We had a party of 8 and when dinner was finally served, 1 plate had a hair in it and the then another dinner was completely forgotten about. Most of the waitstaff were very rude. I grew up coming to this place for over 20 years and it is not the same. Unfortunately will not be returning
google avatar

Jessica D.

Yelp
I'm updating my review just to let this place know you guys are seriously still the best!!! BEST CHICKEN TACOS IN THE CONTRA COSTA! We order catering anytime we have a party and you guys always out do yourselves every time!! Thanks again! Until the next party!

Tamara P.

Yelp
Never been so disrespected. We were told could not be seating without are full party even if ordering for my daughter who was coming in from school who came in as we were told couldn't be seated. Been going for 40 years will not be back!! Disappointed
google avatar

Kirk K.

Yelp
Food does not taste the same as it did 5 years ago. Something changed. I prefer Cocina Madina in Antioch.......sorry

Uncle G.

Yelp
Food is not the same as it was a few years ago. Such a disappointment. So many other great Mexican places around. It's not the Mecca you remember. We ordered the #1 chicken combo. The chicken was DRY as hell and had hardly and flavor. The taco shells were stale tasting. The chili relleno didn't have the flavor and consistency it should have. The only good thing was the salsa that comes with the chips and salsa. The chips themselves are also not good. The inside was not that clean and there were at least 8 tables that hadn't been cleaned off of dishes. Go somewhere else.
google avatar

Anthony S.

Yelp
Amazing, authentic Mexican food. This place has been around longer than I've been alive and it still tastes as good as it did when I was a kid. I've been craving it for two weeks. Looks like a quick road trip to Pittsburg!!!
google avatar

Maria C.

Yelp
Service was awesome she went out of her way to bring bean dip without sauce cause my wife is vegetarian which she loved the potato tacos. My food was very good . I even bought salsa and chips to bring home. New Mecca might have been an old diner back in the day. Very nice place we will be back.
google avatar

Mario D.

Yelp
I used to come here a lot when I was a kid with the family. My father knew the original owner, and I loved the memories. I've been craving their chilaquiles for a while now. My favorite and nobody does it like them. We had a family day out in Pittsburg, and we had to go here. It's nice to see that it has expanded for more room. We sat at a booth on the original side of the restaurant. Still has that old familiar look and feel to it. They brought out salsa, bean dips, corn, and flour tortilla chips, so good. I ordered the Carne asada fajita chilaquiles (full size). Wife ordered Carnitas super burrito and son ordered hamburger and fries. Ohh man, taste just as I remembered it! By far, my favorite chilaquiles! Can't find any other place that makes it this way. Perfection They haven't changed a thing with the food, and I'm glad they didn't!
google avatar

Jnova B.

Yelp
Very very below mid, they don't have horchata, their salsa is gross and the food was gross. Never ever coming there again.

Joyce S.

Yelp
I haven't been to New Mecca in years (I just don't go out to eat much, not anything to do with the restaurant). What a pleasure and enjoyable time we had! From the time we walked in the door and were greeted nicely and immediately seated. The service was excellent, we were brought chips, beans and salsa almost immediately upon sitting down. Drinks order taken and came quickly. We ordered and were brought more chips and salsa in the meantime, our meals came very quickly and the food was delicious. We ordered Chile colorado meal, chimichanga and Chiquita combination. The food was excellent and we all brought leftovers home. I ate mine this morning (burrito and enchilada, from Chiquita meal) am completely full once again and again it was delicious. Prices were very reasonable, did not feel like we were paying an arm and a leg for a mediocre meal, but very little for an excellent dining experience and food!
google avatar

Butch B.

Yelp
Great service Delicious food recommend the tacos thier flavorful nothing can Compare.
google avatar

Lina N.

Yelp
They have the best bean dip and the best tacos in the world. I've been going here since I was a kid.
google avatar

Alicia M.

Yelp
Haven't been here since I was a little girl... my aunt use to bring me & my sisters here when we visited her... I've been living in the Bay Area now for 3 years & I was craving Albondigas... I immediately thought of this restaurant... I was not disappointed... brought back lots of memories & the Albondigas was just what I needed!!!
google avatar

Richard M.

Yelp
Old town Pittsburg. The Mecca has been around for around 65 years. Food is still like I remember it very good. I'm been coming to the Mecca since I was 15 years old that's 60 years.
google avatar

Eisha K.

Yelp
Not my speed. Tries the bean dip and it wasn't for me. Seems like locals enjoy it. I took food to go but service was good.
google avatar

Tootie A.

Yelp
Hands down the best authentic food in the Bay Area!!!! I've been going here all of my life and I've never been disappointed.
google avatar

Angelin R.

Yelp
I have been coming here for two decades. I no longer live in the area, but when I come to visit friends I always stop by The Mecca. The bean dip is always perfect and the service is friendly. I come here for two things: potato tacos and enchiladas verde. They are both always consistent and delicious. I look forward to my next trip!

Rani B.

Yelp
It was a great restaurant once but now no ambiance or service. Food quality & taste just not there. I was quite disappointed we had been going there for over 25 yrs. Not a welcoming experience anymore. Loss for the neighborhood.
