New Moon Sushi

My granddaughter and I love to try out new sushi places wherever we are. (She lives in St. Petersburg and I live in Texas but travel together and meet up whenever we can.) We both agreed this may be the best we've ever had! So fresh and tasty! So, so many choices. And the service was OUTSTANDING!

Went here for the first time with my family. We were all pleased with everything we got. Nice little spot for some sushi cravings!! Overall, great place Id definitely recommend it for sushi.

This was my first time going to New Moon Sushi. I have heard great things about it from others, but wanted to experience it myself. Service was prompt from when we were sat. A couple minutes to glance over the menu and we were ready to order. I had the Lakeland Roll and Spicy Salmon Roll (pictured) and my fiancee got a house salad with Shrimp Shumai. The Shrimp Shumai was sweeter than we expected, but was good. Because of the sweetness, I definitely recommend sharing. I did not have the house salad, but the better half said the dressing was great. The Lakeland Roll was the star of this show though. The Lakeland Roll is served warm with cooked shrimp inside. Outside is eel sauce and krab. I probably could have easily ate another Lakeland Roll if I hadn't ordered the Spicy Salmon, but I always try to get a special roll and regular roll. The Spicy Salmon was nothing to write home about. A well constructed roll with a slight hint of spice. I would have had it a little spicier for my taste, and I am heat adverse. Overall, a fantastic meal for under $50 including tip for two.

Great sushi spot. Fast service and good food. I got the sashimi and nigiri combo, and the teriyaki steak. Dinner entrees come with ginger salad and your choice of onion or miso soup.

This place is delicious. The lunch special bento boxes are also reasonably priced and very tasty. I got the beef box ($13) and it came with soup, salad, rice, gyoza, spring roll, and the beef. I could have eaten at least 3 of the boxes and ended up eating a snack after I left, so don’t assume that you’re going to be full after eating it, but it’s definitely worth it. The atmosphere is nice and the people are friendly. Enjoy!

Love this place! Always good food and great service. Definitely recommend the shaggy dog roll, Tuna tartare, and ask about the spicy tuna hand roll.

Stopped into New Moon Sushi this morning and the sushi platters were excellent super fresh fish with clean, precise cuts, warm lightly seasoned rice, and crisp nori, all plated beautifully with a nice mix of nigiri and rolls. Everything came out quickly and at the right temperature, the flavors were bright and clean, and the variety made it easy to share. Service was friendly and efficient, the dining room was tidy, and prices felt fair for the quality. Simple, delicious, and exactly what I was craving easy five stars.

I love this place! The prices are extremely reasonable and much lower than other decent sushi places in the area. Also, there's like four pages of sushi choices and almost half of them have cooked or vegetarian options. There's no way you can go here and not find a sushi that you really enjoy. This is the best place to go for someone who's new to sushi and they're not sure about All the ingredients that are new to them. I was just blown away that there were so many options for cooked sushi items and how fresh and quick they make everything. Everyone in the restaurant is extremely friendly and they are very accustomed to to go orders so you don't have to worry about it taking longer because you ordered to go or having inadequate packaging.

Really tasty and fresh options. Service was fine. Even the California roll had a great fresh taste. The selection of sake was good and the menu with descriptions of each was wonderful. Really liked the "sandwich" sushi and hubby liked the items on the chefs choice. Would definitely come back again.

Strong recommendation. From our last visit, service was excellent as we enjoyed six rolls, edamame, salmon teriyaki and ahi bowl. The spicy edamame really sings and is worth the upcharge. We really liked the Godzilla roll, the dragon roll was a close second. Really, all the sushi rolls are pretty good and great for sharing. The salmon teriyaki was amazing, again. No restaurant in Lakeland does salmon as well. It's perfectly char-grilled & their teriyaki really works in the dish. The ahi bowl looked good, but my son wasn't sharing! The New Moon seems to improve each visit for us. If you're into craft beers, try some of the imported craft beers from Japan.

Great service, food came out quick and was fresh. The only downside was they didn't have sweet tea.

Walked in at 830pm on Tuesday the 25th and the greeter advised they were already closed. On the door it listed 9 pm closing . Six people standing around doing nothing . I guess the owner is not interested in making money . This is not how you run a restaurant business. I will tell everyone I know that this place is Garbage and will never go here. The owner better figure it out be better figure it out beforefore they go out of business.

Sushi was ok. Service was outstanding. The restaurant was clean. Unable to sit at the bar due to take out and other items on it. The price seemed high. Would I go back? Good question.

Visited here after also trying every other sushi spot in Lakeland. This was the clear winner for us. Every roll we got was very good and service was great as well. Will probably make this our local go-to.

My husband and I decided to try New Moon Sushi for lunch based on their reviews and we are glad we did. We are planning on coming back for dinner one night. We arrived soon after they opened and were seated immediately. They have inside seating and patio, and it's nicely social distanced. The servers were very sweet and were cleaning up constantly. They became busier as the time went on and had a lot of to-go business. It was quite cute inside. We had the shrimp shumai for an appetizer and it was delicious. It came out fresh and hot, and it was shrimp but not fishy. My husband ordered the miso soup and the Godzilla roll and I ordered the lunch special: 2 rolls (Orlando & Eel) and soup (onion/clear) for $10. The soups were good. The miso was typical, if you like it, you'll like this one. The onion/clear one was surprisingly peppery and I really liked that surprise. Everything was fresh and delicious. I had to add the picture comparing the sizes of the three rolls. The Eel was a normal size, the Orlando more of a typical "American" size, and the Godzilla? Well, it was truly a Godzilla-sized bite! I laughed at my husband trying to eat that one, and then he gave me a piece and laughed at me. As I said, we are looking forward to returning one night for a dinner date and having a cocktail from their bar with our dinner.

We recently moved to the area and tried it out. We noticed upon walking in that we are unable to sit at the sushi bar to eat... at a sushi restaurant. It's messily covered with all the takeout packaging supplies. We were seated in a very loud dining room with sports on the tv, giving us more of a sports pub feel. Not relaxing. The food is pretty good. We liked the tunacado. But they lost us by charging us $.50 for a side of spicy mayo for dipping. The waitress did not mention there would be a charge. Spicy mayo is not a luxury ingredient. We have never been charged for it anywhere else, especially when we are already spending $80+ on appetizers, multiple sushi rolls, and a sashimi dinner. We likely won't be back.

I just realized I have never reviewed this restaurant and I don't know how! If you are looking for a sushi place in Lakeland then you found it. I have tried multiple sushi restaurants around here and this is my favorite! My favorite rolls are the volcano, Philly, and the Lakeland. For an appetizer, the tunacado never disappoints. The only thing we probably won't get again was the crab rangoons. The cream cheese was all melted and soupy with a grainy texture so we won't be ordering those again. They are on the pricier end but it's so worth it.

Ordered the Tokyo Naruto roll, pretty good. Also had the Chicken teriyaki entree it came with a side salad with ginger dressing i believe it was called and onion soup. Everything was Delicious. My server was very attentive and recommended me a nice Sake. Restaurant was very chill and relaxing. If i'm ever in the area i'll sure swing by one more

The service was great and food was delicious! We got there right when they opened and by the time we left they were packed!

I've been here at least half a dozen times. Nice looking place. I like the vibe. Staff are friendly. They do takeout. Their sushi overall is fine. Imo sushi should be cooler. A little too warm for my liking. Still never got sick from it though. I would like if they added black seaweed to the menu and didn't grind up their fish super fine in the spicy rolls. Also tempura in a roll imo is better on one side instead of being mixed in. Tuna tataki is not the best. Need less time for sear, more pink, thicker slices and a crusted sear on the outside like a blackened pepper. Soy paper is an up charge, $1 I think. The soy paper needs to be rolled tighter or damp to hold the rolls together like seaweed. Chicken tempura could be larger pieces so not to be as dried out. This is not a cheap place so it's a little pricey. For the price and food I'd go to my other sushi place, but it's usually too far of a drive so I settle for this place. If they stepped it up a bit then I'd come here more often.

Tunacado was very good, I would come back just for that Sushi rolls were good. Service was top notch, our server was very pleasant and fast.

WOW. This place is bussin.... My favorite place in the whole world. Their ginger dressing is to die for, IF YOU don't get the spicy edamame then it's your loss. The flavors will melt on your tongue, soy sauce chili explosion. The rolls. I can't. I can't even fathom how delicious they are. Out of this world. Eat here or just don't i guess? But your missing out that's for sure. The hana roll, lakeland roll. To DIE FOR. Check out these pics. So yum. Tip: Dip your ginger in their soy sauce, for the most savoy bite. Yum.

What a great find! Sushi was absolutely amazing. They have a wide range of Japanese craft beer as well, who knew there were so many beers to choose from! I had the Hana roll which was amazing and the crunch salmon roll. They were equally so good. We also tried the Mexican roll and the mango tango roll. Did I mention they have a great selection of Japanese craft beer? I had a Japanese white ale, awesome. Definitely going back and you should give it a try.... my suggestion, Hana roll!!!

Tried to eat here and the hours posted said 8:30pm closing time. Arrived at 8:15pm and offered to eat extremely quick and was turned away and offered to-go only. To the owner: I was planning on spending over $100 but perhaps the restaurant is doing well enough that you didn't need the business. I would recommend changing your hours to reflect actual closing times so people aren't being turned away after making the trip to your restaurant. It is very frustrating, awkward and embarrassing for the customer. That being said, I have no plans to return since the hours are inaccurate and I was rejected while there were other people still eating in the restaurant.

Delicious sushi and great atmosphere. Such a cool place to hang out with friends, have a social date night, or go solo. Love the names that they have for sushi! From deep fried, fruit, and raw sushi all of it is good!

Not many vegan options. My friends really enjoy the sushi, but I don't have many items to pick from.

I am a die hard Wasabi PC fan- and sushi is one of my favorite foods! So even though I'm loyal to Wasabi here in Plant City, I decided to drive to Lakeland to try out New Moon. They seemed to have a lot more options on their menu. We started out with a Tunacado... The waitress spoke very highly of it, and she was right- It was FANTASTIC! You MUST try it if you like avocados! We followed that appetizer with a godzilla roll, Mexican bubble roll, Tampa roll, dynamite roll and out of control roll. The first three listed are fully cooked rolls- and they were good, but they were just a tad bit bland to my liking. The Godzilla roll had whole deep fried soft shell crab which was nice! The Out of Control roll was our absolute favorite... It was just bursting with flavor! We finished off with dessert, a tempura fried banana with green tea ice cream. You can get red bean ice cream too. They have mochi and fried cheesecake if you're not a fan of bananas. Very tasty! Overall, service was super fast and friendly. The food is very good, depending on what you get and what you like. I would eat here again, but I'll stick with all raw rolls next time!

Have gone twice and I am very pleased with service and quality of their sushi. Very tasty. I would recommend to anyone looking for something new to try. I will definitely return. The beer is also nice and cold. Delicious.

Have not been here in ages! The teriyaki steak looked beautiful and the veggie tempura was done perfectly. The spring rolls were a great appetizer. Out waitress, Cathy, was very attentive and prompt. We will come back soon.

Ambiance was nice, the Miso soup is best here, and sushi is decent. Definitely need nicer menus the one I had I could barely read but the server helped. Over all a staple restaurant for Lakeland.

Absolutely delicious! So far I have had the Volcano roll, Lakeland roll, onion soup, and spring rolls. The variety is front to back over two large menus, display creative, they have an outside sitting area. Service both times I've been has been excellent. And, if you care about such things, their fountain coke is fresh.

Always love this place. It's our "go-to" for sushi. There's a reason it's always packed. They close on certain days/times & I get it, they need time off too, but why does it have to b when my cravings are at their worst. the tunacado! A MUST! Sometimes we go just for that. My husband & I used to share, after the first visit, we now order our own.

I decided to go to New Moon Sushi as I had a taste for sushi. I'm glad I did! My lunch was fantastic. I received great service from Hana, who was attentive and made sure I was taken care of. I started my meal with the two sushi roll lunch meal which comes with salad or soup. I chose the Chicken Teriyaki Box for lunch. The chicken teriyaki was served in a bento box along with rice, salad with ginger dressing, two gyozas and a spring roll. Yum....yum! My meal was freshly prepared and delicious. I ended taking half of my sushi home to enjoy it later. I'm looking forward to my next visit so I can enjoy the other items on the menu.

Delightfully fresh sushi and great service! For lunch, we had the Lunch Sushi and the Shashimi Sampler, and added 1 order of EEL and also Tamago. The Sushi was very fresh and very good! Our waitress was Courtney and she was pleasant & efficient. :) You won't be disappointed! Maureen

The sushi is outstanding. Always fresh which is important with sushi. The other offerings are great as well. Top notch tempura and the ramen is on point every time. Service is outstanding, always attentive and friendly. Atmosphere is perfect for a date or a family outing. This is probably Lakelands best restaurant hands down. Price is always fair to boot.

Sushi was great and my 2 friends enjoyed the vent lunches they ordered as well. Service was very slow so if you are in a rush I would think twice. Will definitely go back for another lunch sushi date with the girls. Mexican Bubble Roll-This was a favorite of the entire table and even though it has jalapeno it was not spicy at all to all 4 of us. No raw seafood. Chicken Tempura Roll-Can't really screw this one up but it was excellent:-) Fried Scallop Roll-Delish and also contained no raw seafood. Pink Panther Roll-Delish but spicier than expected as the minced tuna was definitely spicy but if u are a fan of spice like I am then u will love it, my daughter on the other hand did not like this one due to spiciness. This one contains raw tuna.

Great lunch option of two rolls and either a soup or salad. Always a hit. Faves are eel and Orlando rolls. Service is always friendly and fast.

Very disappointed. I have been a customer since Kay ran the restaurant originally and it was the best sushi in town. Went today and ordered sushi nigiri and sashimi. THE SUSHI RICE WAS NOT SUSHI RICE! It was clearly long grain rice, was not seasoned at all (vinegar) and fell apart immediately. Sprinkling some sesame seeds on regular rice does not make sushi rice. The sashimi was sliced incorrectly. They were thick chewy chunks instead of thin slices. I am not sure what we are and paid for but it was certainly not sushi. If you want a bunch of crazy rolls covered in sauces and toppings so you cant tell if the components are properly made, this is your place. However, if you want correctly made sushi or sashimi, do not come here.

You have to try the Louisiana roll!! The service is fast and ambiance is cool, they have a lot of variety is liquor!

We ordered pork gyoza and 4 rolls. Spicy tuna, philly roll, Lakeland roll and beauty and the beast roll. The menu is HEAVY on cream cheese rolls. I'm not anti cream cheese, but it's a little overkill on this menu. Also the cream cheese tasted weird. Maybe it's not the best quality or maybe it just picked up the odor of the fridge, either way it made each roll taste a little off. The spicy tuna was delicious! I'm thankful they actually seasoned the tuna instead of just drowning it in spicy mayo like other places do. Pork gyoza was very very tasty wish we had ordered 2, because 5 wasn't enough.

It's been 4 years since my last visit here. We figure that we would give it another shot. Some things are better left alone. The Tuna Tartar while ok was extremely small by any standard. The hot Saké was bland and not good at all. The Tempura Appetizer was ok, descent batter and good portion. The sushi and sushi rolls were just awful and didn't smell good. No idea how this place got a 4 1/2 star rating from Yelp. My recommendation would be to avoid this place if your looking for Sushi.

Wow is all I have to say. From the food to the service EVERYTHING was amazing! The menu is extensive, and they must have over 100 rolls to choose from! They have two different kinds of ramen to choose from too even though they're not listed on the menu! We went with the Shrimp shumai to start with, it was delicious and I didn't want to share. I also got the Louisiana roll and the pork based ramen! The Louisiana roll was hands down the best sushi I've ever had! It was full of shrimp, crab and crawfish! This was my first experience with ramen so I don't have much to compare it to, but what I do know is it was delicious! Full of flavor and a huge helping! I don't know how we did it after all that food, but we ended the night with tempura fried cheesecake which was also great! Can't wait to come back

I love this place so much I am there every Friday and look forward to my weekly sushi. The staff are attentive and wonderful.

My fiancé and I have been going here for years and the food never disappoints! The sushi is incredibly fresh and they occasionally get in delicacies (Uni, Tuna Belly, etc.) which is a nice treat! The atmosphere is relaxing and the restaurant is very clean. Our favorite server, Iya has left to continue her education but the manager is always willing to take care of us to ensure we get the best service possible. I highly recommend this place, again and again.

Came for my Daughter's birthday and everything was delicious! Service was great, good vegan options for my other daughter. For keto options, the salads were on point and loaded with avocado! Definitely recommend! Everyone left happy!

Color me impressed! Called in a take out order, had to try a couple times because the line was busy, but once I got through the employee was really pleasant. I was told it would take about 15-20 minutes, got there in 15 and they were bagging up my order. I think the employee was the same that took my order because she was just as nice in person and explained that she bagged my salad with the sushi to keep it from wilting with the katsu. Got home and I'm a little sad to report that I was too excited and dug in before snapping a picture. We ordered the Mango Tuna Roll, New Moon roll, spicy tuna roll, and chicken katsu with the onion soup. I LOVED the mango tuna roll and the new moon definitely had some pizzazz with the sesame oil. The onion soup was a really nice alternative to miso and so tasty! Overall really glad I stopped in. Very happy tummies. :)

I came here with some friends for dinner and it was great!! The food was super fresh, and tasted amazing! If you aren't into fish like myself, I highly recommend the yam yam rolls (sweet potato rolls) and their ramen! Both are super delicious!

The sushi I had was ok, but! The beers was pretty damn good! They had a lot of selection and it was it not your normal type of beers I tell you what! The beers was from Japan I believe! I enjoyed the beers more than the sushi! Prices of the beers was ranging from 8-13 bucks fair. Sushi was from 6-14 bucks not bad. Restroom was clean customer service was very nice. I would go back here for the beers!
