Bookmarked this after seeing the great yelp reviews. I was hanging out with a friend from the area and realized that I was 5 minutes away from the place. Came in around 6:30pm and it was mostly empty. Bartender wiping down the bar and 3 other guys sitting at the bar. It's pretty easy to miss. There is no sign outside that says anything about this place being open, let alone a bar. I went looking for street parking because I wasn't sure if they owned the lot next door (they do and you should park there). But the 575 over the door told me I was in the right place.
First thing I did was ask for a menu. The bartender heard it as "Can I have a Smithwick's?". When the beer showed up, I pointed out the confusion, got that one on the house.
Not that the beers were expensive anyway. All imports were $5 a pint and domestics were less. Remember Coors Light being $2.50. Decent selection on tap. They have bottles too, and a full liquor selection.
Bartender pointed the chalkboard menu on the far wall out, I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. Now that I'm looking at other people's pictures, I wish I had remembered to get bacon. The burger took awhile to come out. I'm pretty sure the bartender/cook just made the patties, because I could hear the sound of him forming and patting them down.
Hefty burger greeted me about 20 minutes after I ordered. Most likely a little over half a pound, with melted yellow american cheese on a poppy seed bun, pickle chips on the side. It's a damn good burger. Tastes like one made at someone's house, not some burger patties that were bought preformed. He doesn't skimp on beef, the patty is about an inch thick. The fries were surprisingly good as well, very hot, crispy, and don't taste like they've been frozen. For all I know, he could've just made them from scratch too. Good value, about $7 for an order of fries and a burger.
I would definitely return, especially in the summer, with my motorcycle and a cigar, to relax on the sweet looking patio I saw in the back.
