Google
(Reposting my Yelp review) Hi everyone, Royal Bakery was owned by my grandpa, Isaac Monroy, for several decades. He was well known, respected, and loved in the community. Unfortunately, he passed away just 3 days after his 80th birthday, on September 30th of this year. My grandpa loved nothing more than providing his delicious homemade treats and bread to his loyal customers. If you happen to see this review and are able to, please swing by and try something out! My family could use as much support as possible right now, and my grandpa's only wish was to continue the legacy of his prized bakery forever. Thank you to the thousands of customers who've enjoyed my grandpa Isaac's company and baking over the years. He deeply loved every one of you, and this legacy wouldn't be possible with you all.

I purchased one of their cakes from a local grocery store... It was red velvet , I must say the cake looked very yummy and I couldn't wait to get home . to my surprise when I cut into the cake instead of tasting red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting I was eating red velvet cake with a vanilla buttercream frosting , which gave the cake an odd taste..... Word to the wise if you going to make a red velvet cake and you're not going to put cream cheese frosting on it you come out better not making it at all !

Tested peanut butter cookies, fresh and yummy... HOWEVER, upon purchasing RIGHT AFTER, the packaged cookies were NOT fresh, stale. Unfortunately, had already left store when opened and 'tried'to eat.

Google
Simply THE best bakery in S.F. for hard crust Italian style sourdough! I wish more restaurants knew about it! But don’t forget to try the rest!

Google
Great San Francisco sourdough bread and more. Family owned and operated, low tech, cash only.

Google
Absolutely the BEST bread in the City! Which pretty much makes it the best bread ANYWHERE!

Google
The bakery seems to be struggling. These days, it seems to be a disorganized store with poor systems that sells stale bread.

Yelp
my family has been getting bread here for over 40 years. In the last few years they have gone down in quality and service. I put in an order for Easter Sunday with one of the women who works there. My order was not there when I went to pick up. She is always tired and sleepy. She doesn't know how much anything cost. Another woman that works there said that I could pick up my order on Monday. How crazy is that. Easter is already gone by then.

Yelp
Shut down! Without any notice, Royal Bakery is no more. Too bad. Does anybody know if they'll re-open?

Yelp
I recently tried Royal Bakery for the fresh bread goods. As much as we all try to avoid carbs, the freshness of newly baked bread wins over store bought anything. Plus buying local is where it's at in my city, I prefer smaller family businesses that make fresh goods over big box stores. I stocked up on a couple pistoletas, small rolls perfect for mini sandwiches. I also got a fresh foccacia bread and 5 lb bag of bread crumbs for cooking. I use bread crumbs as breading for chicken, fish or chile rellenos. Fresh bread crumbs make all the difference. My nephew loves the banana bread here, seriously I've seen that kid eat an entire loaf by himself. It must be good.

Yelp
This bakery has the best focaccia bread. My family has been getting our focaccia bread every Christmas for many years and it is delicious!

Yelp
It's midnight and Chong and I follow our noses to a doorway emitting a fabulous aroma and freshly baked sourdough. "WTF, ARE WE JUST HELLA HIGH CHEECH????" "NO BZ, THERE REALLY IS FRESHLY BAKED BREAD COMING FROM THIS........ro-yal....ba-king CO." I said as I read the large painted letters on the building I live and breathe excelsior, I'm one of the tragic few that lived here for far too long. I would pass by Royal Baking Co. everyday and never know where the entrance was or if they were even open. I finally found the opening and learned the store hours! I felt like I unlocked a secret level in a video game or something. The following events reminded me so much of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Chong and I walk closer to the door and we just inhale deeply and kept squealing "OMG THIS SCENT IS THE BEST IN THE WORLD". it drew attention towards us and the sons owner came out and entertained us, asking us if we wanted a tour of the mini factory but we reluctantly declined. He gave us 2 personal sized pieces of sourdough, warm and fresh out of the oven, at midnight. Chong and I have the best adventures.

Yelp
Recently moved to the area and I heard so much about their churros I decided to check them out. I stopped by during the week and nobody was at the counter. 2 minutes later a lady appears and says "no churros today, only Saturdays. Sometimes Fridays." I go back in a Saturday with my sister and nephews super excited. Again no one was at the counter. Finally a lady shows up and in a rude voice says "no churros today!" Heart broken we all went home and will not be coming back....

Yelp
I'm very disappointed in this place. I have ordered bread here for years and almost without fail there has been a problem with them getting my order right. On Wednesday of this week I asked them for 4 loaves of bread that they have shipped in from another bakery. Without fail they only got me 2 loaves. It's not rocket science it's just bread and I like to support the small businesses in my neighborhood. Looks like I'll have to find a new spot. Goodbye Royal bakery.

Yelp
Hi yelpers, The costumer service is bad. La senorita que atiende por las mananas tiene muy mal trato, es ruda y malcriada. Deberian contratar a alguien con mejor costumer service.

Yelp
When I'm in the area I come by Royal Bakery for one thing and one thing only... their churros! They are fantastic! I know it's hard to screw up a churro but they are a step above any other churro I've ever had. I feel bad that I haven't eaten more items off their menu but those gosh darn churros are just so good! Let's just say this, I NEVER just order one.. or two.

Yelp
Long reign. Around for a few decades under multiple owners. Will be around a few decades more if they keep making so many kinds of breads, generous turkey sandwiches and huge chocolate chip cookies all with great service. Everything felt like royalty.

Yelp
Looking for the best sourdough bread in San Francisco you will find it here. Not only is the sourdough great but if you are looking for a good foccacia bread and don't want to drive to north beach this is the spot. Go early in the day or you will miss out

Yelp
Came in here as I was waiting for my food a couple doors down. Got a pound of Biscotti. They have quite a few variety of biscotti. Wil return to try other stuff

Yelp
I used to like the baked goods here but I stopped spending my money here when they took their gorgeous, historic art deco building from the 20's and painted an enormous (like 50-75 feet long), tacky, amateurish version of the Last Supper all over the art deco details. It's such a violation of aesthetics and history, as well as an affront to anybody who doesn't happen to be a Christian. As a non-Christian I don't feel welcome here anymore.

Yelp
Lived in the neighborhood as a kid. Still trade here when I can. I call ahead to buy tomato foccacia for the freezer. I just set aside 6 sheets for pickup later. I knew one of the founding owners. He almost talked me into working here but decide to go another direction. The dedication to quality baked goods remains in its veins.

Yelp
Excellent churros and biscotti, fresh baked rolls and and bagguettes. Coffee is sometimes hot, sometimes not, which is why I take off a star, and the breads are great, if all you like is white bread - I miss the selection of good tasting, whole wheat bread.

Yelp
