New Saigon Restaurant

This is my go-to Pho im Bakersfield. I have been coming to this restaurant for many years now. Great food and service. I am a traditional Pho connoisseur, always the house pho, house fried rice and an iced coffee 1/2 the ice 😊 on this occasion my daughter ordered a milk tea with Boba. It has a comfortable Vietnamese cooking, I have always been treated very well by everyone working here, Recommended for you pho fix for sure!! Can’t beat the buy 3 get one free deal either!!

Friendly and quick service. Love the family feel here. Recommend the chicken noodle Pho with large tender slices of chicken breast. The steamed dumplings, shrimp and pork spring rolls and house noodle salad were excellent. We were treated to a complimentary dish of tapioca pudding which was sweet and comforting. The green tea is loose leaf and flavorful.

We used to always go to the Pho Vy next door, but one time it was too busy and I was starving—so we decided to try Saigon instead. I’m really glad we did. The house special fried rice and house special noodles were both delicious, but the real surprise was the durian ice-blended milk tea—absolutely amazing and something you don’t see everywhere. Great food aside, the service was fast and friendly, which made the experience even better. Definitely coming back.

Very friendly staff with good quality pho. Reasonably priced. I always order take out chicken or beef pho. Broth is always delicious. They are generous with add-ins too. Always fresh.

The service and the food was excellent. Wanted to have Vietnamese food before driving to Las Vegas and we were pleasantly surprised by this place. Even the owners came to check on us. We will definitely be coming back if we’re ever in Bakersfield again!

The exterior environment waves failure of the government on the poor really overshadows this restaurant even if the interior is outdated old-school warm relaxed 80's Vietnamese inside. The food was surprisingly really good don't judge this book by its cover overall very happy with the food, service and cleanliness.

The food was great! The service was great too. My server was very nice. Within five minutes of ordering, the food came! The atmosphere was authentic, too.

I ordered beef lemongrass vermicelli, and it was a larger portion and vegetable spring roll, too(👍). The vermicelli didn't taste like lemongrass noodle because it didn't come with their liquid lemongrass sauce. However, the food was okay, and there was no spice chilies sauce.

Their pho is so yummy :3 Service is nice and quite quick. Owners are always kind and friendly

Popped into this place for the first time. Place is fairly large and because it was raining, it was busy! We were seated right away and the staff came over immediately to take our drink order. The menu has your basic and popular dishes... pho and rice and vermicelli dishes. The phones a very rustic and tasty broth. If you're used to clear lightly flavored broths this one may surprise you. We ordered the pho with all the meats: rare beef, brisket, meatballs, tripe, and tendon. We also ordered the pork and shrimp spring rolls and crispy egg rolls. They were just okay. The spring rolls did not have any flavor whatsoever. The pork and shrimp were bland. The shrimp also had fu it jink on it so I took out the rest of it and don't eat it. The crispy rolls were a tad mushy on the inside and did not have any pizazz! The restaurant is a bit musty, outdated but functional. The bathrooms needed cleaning. It seems like they don't check them often because someone had a blowout and it was messy! If you have to go... hold it. I wouldn't say the bathrooms are clean and inviting. I've cleaner bathrooms at Arco. After all this, the owner offered a tapioca and coconut milk dessert in the house. The dessert was made with mung beans and unfortunately, it tasted as such. Not a huge fan, but now I know. If you go, enjoy!!

First time inside. Not the best scenery but good service Unfortunately right after we ate and sat there we witnessed a roach on the wall. Very disappointed I will not be going here again. I even took a video because the roach wouldn't leave If I may add, the PHO VY next door is the best. They are closed on Wednesday so we took a chance! Never making this choice again!

This spot is a must visit! Tried their perfectly seasoned, steak pho, complete with fresh fixings, and beyond delicious. We also loved the shrimp spring rolls and the tasty peanut sauce they came with. We enjoyed the complimentary Vietnamese tapioca dessert. Don't be fooled by the location, the restaurant is safe, cozy and very much worth the trip for fast service and amazing, traditional food. Just a heads-up, the large pho bowl is huge, so order wisely!

The pho was so good here, it has so much flavor and it was piping hot which I love! Quality of the meat that they use is also great! Doesn't have any stringy fat. The lady here is so sweet and very attentive, this place gives a homey vibe.

We came here on a Sunday morning. It was our first time at this resto. We thought of giving it a try since we love Pho and egg rolls. We tried house pho and egg rolls. It was flavorful though a little bit smaller portion than the other Vietnamese restaurant we have tried. I wasnt able to take a photo of the soup since we were excited to eat lol. It was really good! My son also ordered the fruit tea drink, it was way too sweet or concentrated, hope they can put some more water. Moreover, the service was fast and the server was nice. He gave us a complimentary dessert at the end; it was a hot tapioca, it was tasty and not too sweet. Overall, I recommend this place.

Great family run restaurant, outstanding food and service. Cat Fish is excellent, also ordered pork chop and pho with chicken, delicious! Highly recommended, very friendly staff explains dishes and helps in any way. Thank you for a great experience serving our 6-party table. Serves much bigger groups with ease!

This is the best pho place in town! The flavor of the broth is amazing and can't be beat. The vibes in the restaurant is cozy and relaxing. Dat is usually our server and treats us like family, but the whole staff is really friendly no matter who is serving us. Service is fast, and the quality of the food is amazing. We travel pretty far regularly just to eat here and will continue to do so!

Rice plate pork chop, beef and pho soup. Spring Rolls are delicious . They have complimentary dessert which most places do not do.

They are pushy, and could careless about you or how long you're waiting, I even told them an hour before I needed it and it was still 40 minutes late!! Inside is dirty and cluttered, I'd hate to see the kitchen if the dining area is partial storage, this restaurant is on Union Ave and 3rd,I believe a Dollar tree was in same location...many of my Asian friends seem to like the food. Personally there are better Vietnamese food places in Bakersield

First and foremost: the location of the restaurant is.. well, sketchy at best. It's located in one of the worst parts of town. However, if you can get past that, get ready to experience good, authentic Vietnamese food. I ended up coming here on a whim after seeing the reviews of this place and was not disappointed in the slightest. The service was good and attentive; very typical of a Vietnamese restaurant. I ended up getting their large, rare steak phở and their crispy pork eggrolls. The ambiance of the restaurant was very typical, old-school Vietnamese. Very much on par with restaurants in SJ/OC. The eggrolls came out quite fast and tasted great. They came with a sides of lettuce and dipping sauce. Better than most places in town for sure; filling was good and tasted well. The phở came out piping hot, almost enough to scald my mouth (which I prefer). In terms of presentation, it came out with a plethora of green garnish which I felt amplified the look and taste of the soup. The broth had very deep flavors and tasted great even w/o the typical extra garnishes that one could put (e.g. sriracha, hoisin, lime, etc). The meat was very tender, and the noodles seemed to be of higher quality than most restaurants in town. Added plus for them having chili oil and chili sauce on the side, as I've yet to see that at any other restaurant in town. Prices were reasonable given the portion sizes they gave me. Again; I'd say the phở here is on par with Vietnamese restaurants in San Jose/Orange County. Outside of the sketchy location of the restaurant, this is hands down the best place for Vietnamese food in Bakersfield; I'd say this is the epitome of hole in the wall. I will definitely be coming back here.

So authentic. I ordered pho at the restaurant. The flavor was very good, not too salty. I ordered a bunch of other food to go and they were also good. - the shrimp salad was very good. It would go very well with shrimp chip - got my coworkers the bo kho and she liked it - seafood egg noodles. It wasn't bad, it's just the fact they use actual fish instead of fishball so the fishy smell was strong - banh canh was good too. - caramelize cat fish was great. I didn't know but it came with desert as well. It was refreshing to eat it cold in this hot weather . Will definitely come there again and stock up some food

The BEST Pho in this city. I would say the Pho here compares to exceptional Pho in the OC. The Bun Bo Hue is legit, not too salty. The baked catfish is super delicious as well. Service is efficient & ambiance is an old school asian vibe w/ a fish tank in the entrance.

Best Pho in town. I've been coming here for 9 years now and it's never disappointed. I recommend the rare steak pho and fried dumplings

I ordered a large 33 (with everything in it) , and the wife had a small 32... Didn't have to add any sauce or anything. The soup is clean and flavorful! Meats and veggies are fresh! One Of The best pho joints I have ever been to! I wish this spot would come up to Seattle! Oh, the wait staff are different here - they actually do more then just dump off your noodles! They ask how you're doing, how everything is, they actually care. UNHEARD OF! Definitely recommend this place. Will be back if I'm ever here in town again!!!

Came on a chilly Sunday around 6 pm after spending some time in Sequoia National Forest. We were in between Pho-Vy and this place (they're literally right next to each other) and decided to try New Saigon due to some of the reviews and the pictures. Im sure Pho-Vy would have been excellent also but we were extremely happy with our choice. We were promptly greeted and sat, there was no wait and only one booth was taken. Later on a family sat in another booth but the restaurant was virtually empty. The inside is pretty nice with cool wooden furniture and a bar and an aquarium. The booths are large and comfy. The service was friendly and fast by the 2 employees working in the front room. We ordered the crispy egg rolls, the charbroiled beef rice vermicelli, and the large house special noodle soup pho. We also decided to get 2 Thai teas, one with boba and whipped cream and the other with whipped cream. We completely demolished the food even though there was so much and completely stuffed ourselves. The egg rolls came out first and were crispy and meaty and larger than I expected. They didn't have a fishy taste like I do taste at some other restaurants. It came with your typical pickled carrot and radish, lettuce, and cucumbers. The pho broth was sooooo flavorful and rich. There was plenty of meat inside since the house special comes with all the beef types. It came with your traditional bean sprouts, basil, and jalapeños. We also added the hoisin, sriracha, chili sauce, and chili oil. The charbroiled beef was excellent. It was sooo savory and sweet, thinly sliced, and tender. It went perfectly with the green onions, peanuts, lettuce and noodles, you want to get all the flavors in one bite! The Thai teas were decent size and tasted delicious, can't go wrong. I liked how they gave you the option to add whipped cream. Final bill without tip was less than $50. A delicious meal and great experience for a good price. It has definitely set the bar higher, would be bacon

The food here is always so good and authentic! The pho has a rich broth and I usually pair it with the spring rolls with the peanut sauce and it is such a good combination! you can tell it is a family owned business and that they take their time in choosing quality ingredients. Service is always fast. I never wait more than 10 minutes to order and for food to be brought to the table. it is in the sketchy area of town however the quality speaks for itself and whenever I have the time and gas, I always choose to come here over anywhere else!

This is one of my two "Go-To" places for authentic Vietnamese food. My favorite thing on the Menu is the grilled Catfish. Note that you have to order this at least 3.5 hrs in advanced and it is a 7-8 lb crawfish that can feed 5-7 people. Comes with ample greens and spring roll rice paper to make rolls. Highly highly recommend this catfish. (You can call a day ahead to order) They have strange hours so call ahead to make sure they are open. There are also happy hours where you can buy 3 and get the 4th item for free (you can mix and match). Other dishes to try are the Pho, Bo Luc Lac, Korean BBQ Ribs with Rice, and Charbroiled Chicken. As a side note, they use a decent amount of MSG so for some people it may not be suitable, but the flavor is definitely there :D

Did some volunteer work at CAPK this morning sorting canned food in time for the holidays. After finishing earlier than expected, I really worked up an appetite. Since I'm on the east side of town already, it was perfect timing for some brunch. And for me, nothing sounded more comforting than a hot bowl of pho this morning. Pho Vy was still closed so I tried New Saigon (or as the menu stated Tan Saigon) which was conveniently right next door. Happy to report, this was a good rebound. As my other review stated, I always preferred Pho Vy among all other pho shops in town. But little did I know that New Saigon's pho is, dare I say it...better than the competition next door. There are a few things I am very particular about when eating a bowl and this small bowl of house special pho, item #32 seems to check most of my requirements. First, the broth must be piping hot and clear. Before adding any condiments in, I get in there with a spoon and just enjoy a few sips of the broth that should have the right balance of traditional spices and flavor from the simmered beef bones, oxtails and flank steak. Secondly, there should also be a nice noodle-to-meat ratio. The rice noodles in this bowl were perfectly done and not mushy. The thin slices of beef were still somewhat rare which were perfect because the piping hot broth cooked them nicely. There was a nice balance of brisket slices, tender tendon, lean flank, tripe and beef meatballs included. Lastly, a nice full plate of fresh garnishes should accompany the pho. Nothing worse than a restaurant serving a twig of basil and some dull sprouts. Fortunately here, they don't skimp on the fresh basil, jalapeños, bean sprouts and limes. Total price of the meal including my iced coffee was a dub. Which is a great price for a meal considering that's gonna sustain you for much of the day until you have dinner. It's a pho-nomenal deal! Update: Went back on a different day to see if the flavor of the pho is different. Have to report that the flavor, presentation and portions of the pho were consistent both times I went. The flavors were still the same so they've gained a repeat customer for sure. Also tried the beef chow fun and steamed dumplings this time around and both dishes were delicious also.

Their broth is much cleaner and more flavorful than Pho-vy next door. It is a bummer that they close early on some days though. The hours posted on their website are not the hours that they are open, so call ahead if you plan on going

- Locale Destination - It's on Union Ave and 4th st in Bakersfield. It's in a big shopping center. Ambiance: typical mom and pop. Menu: wide Service: attentive Parking: plenty - Gluttony Expedition - Sweet & sour soup: a bit too sour for me but not bad. Big portions. Catfish: it's a bony fish, so you might think it's hard to eat. Not bad. - Conqueror's Deduction - It's a decent Vietnamese mom & pop shop. Good attentive service.

Back again for a bowl of pho and still delicious as ever. Authentic broth, comes out hot and tons of ingredients

I ordered pho soup and was a bit disappointed. The soup was warm not hot and they did not offer spicy . Way too much salt , did not taste authentic in my opinion. The service was good , waitress was attentive . Ambience was quiet and peaceful . I would not recommend or go back simply for the food quality

The food is OK, and service is good. But then I went to the restrooms. Take a look. Obviously no one bothered to clean the restroom since the Vietnam war. How could this pass inspection?!?

my favorite pho spot in town! i've been coming here for years and they never disappoint. Today, i switched it up and tried their Bún bò hué for my to go order and let me tell you.... it was DELICIOUS! the noodles were bouncy, the broth was flavorful with just enough spice! i'm not sure what the meats were but i finished the entire bowl. Their hospitality really represents a family owned restaurant. 10/10 recommend

My girlfriend and I came in on a Sunday evening after hiking at the National Sequoia Forest. After reading good reviews about New Saigon and their broth we decided to experience it for ourselves. We arrived and were greeted/sat immediately. There is a lot of indoor seating area, spacious booths, and traditional decorations throughout. Since we were 2 of maybe 10 customers our Thai tea, house special pho, charred pork, and egg rolls came rolling out fast! The broth of the pho is by far one of the tastiest I've ever experienced, very savory flavorful, and quenching for a soup lover. The ingredients were plentiful and the meats were cooked well with great variety. I liked the egg rolls, there were a good amount and prepared with a crisp texture! Just when i thought our meal couldn't get any better out came the charred beef rice vermicelli entree. The fresh ingredients and steamy meat were the perfect mixture for a real sweet and rich dish. Overall I couldn't really pick a favorite between the 2 main entrees we ordered. Sadly we live over an hour away and probably won't be back soon but I won't forget about some of the tastiest Viet food I've had. I think the service here was very fine, quick, and considerate. we were offered a spare bowl to share our soup, frequently checked on, and didn't have to wait long to pay! Prices are fair, restaurant is pretty nice, and food is amazing *drops mic*

You can't go wrong with Pho Vy on Union but this place might be close to topping it. This place has a nicer dining area than most local pho spots. Would recommend this spot as my first choice for pho in town for a combination of things I will add. I ordered a large combination pho with spring rolls. They don't skimp out on the meats like most places tend to do. They also asked if we wanted some tapioca as dessert which is a plus!

Not authentic Bun Bo Hue, they took Pho brooth and make it spicy. I taste nothing like bun bo hue. Not recommend this bun bo. The plus is the place looks clean.

Food quality is delicious! Plenty of staff available to assist. Chicken Pho is my go to!!! Loaded with Thai basil and other fixings. Taro boba was recommended by staff, it's become my current obsession!

This restaurant needs to have servers that approach every customer as their long-lost friends with a very friendly attitude as we have not seen at this restaurant previously

Late lunch stop before heading out to Vegas. We haven't driven to Vegas for a long time, found out HWY58 has replaced the local route through the town in Bakersfield which cut down approximately 30 minutes to Vegas, without traffic should just take 8 hours from the East Bay. This was a Mom and Pop type of restaurant in a rough neighborhood (we were skeptical about the location), nothing fancy, comfy bench, spacious. Service was good and attentive, the owner chatted with us (probably she heard we spike the same language), offered us tapioca dessert and asked if I needed my drink to go and gave me more ice. My hubby had the beef stew egg noodles soup was a bit too sweet but not too spicy, the egg noodles had good texture. I had the beef combo rice vermicelli soup, the vermicelli was very good, silky, smooth and I could see each strand of rice noodles, not sticking together, good rice flavor. The soup was a bit oily, tasted less herbs than other Vietnamese restaurants where I had back in the Bay Area. The fried egg rolls, we both could taste some of the filling was not fresh, as my father always said: "if there aren't many customers or no customer in the restaurant at all, the ingredients might not be fresh". They need to pay more attention to the quality control, I thought that was a miss, because the quality of the rice noodles was really good. My hubby used the restroom, he told me the trach can was full but no one went to replace the trash bag, when the restaurant was quiet in the middle of the day. However, when we have ro drive to Vegas and must stop for lunch, we would give New Saigon another try, and chat with aunti (the owner).

a gem in the middle of nowhereeee. okay well bakersfield ain't really nowhere per say, but to a city slicker like myself it is. delicious, authentic vietnamese food. highly recommend the beef pho, tried my friends and the broth was complex in flavor with tender meat and fresh herbs. thai tea boba wasn't the best but pretty good. bun thit nuong or grilled meat over rice noodles with salad and pickled veggies was phenomenal. spring rolls with shrimp and pork were delicious and came with a peanut dipping sauce. very friendly service!!

5/5 large House pho: with basil, sprouts, sriracha, black bean sauce, maple chopsticks. The pho is flavorful, garnished with fresh green onions and cilantro, and pairs well with the thin rice noodles and various meats and tendons. I left very satisfied. 4.5/5 tapioca pudding: this was complimentary, and I'm not a big sweet tooth but this was a nice touch to finish off the meal. It's sweet, warm, tastes of vanilla and slightly viscous from the tapioca starch. 5/5 parking: plenty of parking in the plaza 5/5 service: prompt and attentive. Bring your check to the cashier.

Came here for the pho.. obviously. The workers were super polite and attentive. The place inside can use a remodel. However, let's talk about the pho the rare beef pho was really good. You can tell the broth had been made to perfection and the meat tasted fresh I would give the pho a 8.5/10. I also ordered spring rolls. They were mainly noodles and some shrimp. I've had better and was a little disappointed 2/10

We enjoyed everything we ordered, particularly the caramelized pork and egg rolls. The spring rolls were also fresh and delicious. The tapioca mung bean dessert is a wonderful comfort food. The service was friendly and efficient.

Coming from the 626 area with numerous options for Vietnamese cuisine, pho here is pretty good. I ordered a small bowl of rare beef steak pho & egg rolls. Could've used more meat slices. Broth flavor was on point. Yea there's MSG in the seasoning but that's everywhere though to enhance flavors. Size "small" is actually small. In my city, a small seems more like a medium. Call to order for pick up if you'd like. Next door is another pho spot "Pho Vy" but I haven't tried it. I recommend this spot for authentic VN cuisine.

This is a side-by-side review of Pho Vy and New Saigon. Since they were located right next to one another, I took the opportunity to get the same dish from both restaurants to compare. House combo Pho with extra tripe: New Saigon provides a substantially larger portion than Pho Vy. This applies to both the amount of broth and all the other ingredients provided. Other than that, the broth at New Saigon tastes better in my opinion. Vietnamese Coffee, Large: New Saigon uses a 24oz cup but Pho Vy uses a 20oz cup. The coffee at Pho Vy was also not as strong as the coffee at New Saigon. I prefer mine strong so New Saigon won this comparison as well. Traffic: I ordered my food at Pho Vy and then immediately went over to New Saigon to place the same order. There were 4 occupied tables inside Pho Vy and 3 carry out orders during the 15 minutes I waited for my food outside the restaurants. At New Saigon, there were quite a few carry out orders during the time I waited and I lost track but no one was dining in when I was there. Interior: The inside of Pho Vy is a single room restaurant with basic tables and chairs, not very well lit, and that's about all that can be said. On the other hand, the inside of New Saigon is partially blocked off with what appears to be overflow furniture from another restaurant. There were some tables to sit at there but it didn't really feel like the environment was very inviting. However, the wait for my food at New Saigon was only 10 minutes as opposed to 15 minutes at Pho Vy. Exterior: This is not a great part of town. I was approached by a strung out homeless person who asked me to hand over my food as I arrived at my car. I politely declined but my response was not well received. Best of luck to him. Stuff like this makes me wish California would honor out of state concealed weapon permits. Anyway... Conclusion: I'd go back to either of these places as the pho is quite good but would favor New Saigon over Pho Vy for carry out orders due to the larger portions. If ordering ahead is an option definitely try that to reduce your wait time in the parking lot.

There was a fly embedded in my shrimp spring roll. It was deep inside in between the lettuce and was chopped in half. When we told the employee, he said "why didn't you tell us sooner. The rest of your food was already made." Bad customer service. Made us feel like it was our fault when it wasn't. Also the women's restroom smelled really bad.

THEY ARE OPEN FOR DINE IN SO PLEASE GO SUPPORT THEM! I moved from Little Saigon to Bakersfield not that long ago and I've been trying to find a decent pho spot and I think I hit the jackpot! We ordered the beef pho, the seafood fried rice, the soft chow mein and the eggrolls and everything was amazing! Perfect portions for the price & the customer service was top notch the woman in the front was extremely friendly they gave us free dessert. They may not be located in the nicest part of town but I would recommend definitely giving them a try! We need to support our small businesses!

I'm new in town, this place is not the best but it was really good so it deserves a 5 star . They offered free tapioca dessert at the end and that was pretty good as well. Quick and good service, will definitely be coming back.

I heard about how good their food from a friend in this area after moving from LA I can't find any good pho that I love much here. Pho was so tasty Veggies rolls and chicken wings also delicious. I'll definitely come back for sure.

I was in the area visiting my boyfriend's family so had verrrrrrry high expectations for this place because I'm Vietnamese and it was their first time trying Viet food. The food was superb. I ordered the bun thit nuong for myself and they gave so much meat i ended up finishing my noodles first! The meat was well marinated so it had a good balance of sweet and savory. Everyone else was very satisfied with their meals. At the end of our meal we got complimentary che dessert and it hit the spot! Service is good because our waiter is polite. They have a promotion where you can get a free meal if you order 3 dishes. That was nice and everything was priced fairly. I'll definitely come back if I were in the area again!

The location may not be great but the food and service is amazing. No problem finding a spot to park. Workers were attentive. Food was served promptly. At the end of dinner, was asked if we wanted tapioca dessert which, I believe, comes with dinner. Our go-to spot for pho.
