Wizard’s Beer Festival Coming to Boston - Eater Boston

"An orchard owner in New Salem (which is in Western Massachusetts, not near the North Shore’s Salem) is launching a new arm of the business: 92-year-old Carol Hillman has run New Salem Preserves and Orchards (67 South Main St.) for 51 years, and she’s now running New Salem Cider, a new tasting venture aimed at making the orchard sustainable." - Dana Hatic

An outstanding, pastoral like setting and superb hard cider choices. Enjoying a flight of cider is worth the journey. This is a wonderful experience in a most inviting setting. The view of the valley as you enjoy the cider is a perfect setting for a relaxing time. The owner and staff are very friendly and welcoming. Absolutely recommend. 👍

A must see family farm in the hills of Massachusetts. I bought a jug of the hard cider which was superb. Misses Carol was very knowledgeable on all the products they had to offer from Apple Cider to Rhubarb. I highly recommend stopping by and experiencing a good old family farm.

What a gem of a place. Peaceful, great cider, dog/kid friendly, and the owners are kind. The views are spectacular, landscaping is gorgeous! By the way, the owner is 97 yo and running around like she's in her 40's! Recommend place to visit if you are in the area or not. You won't be disappointed!

Ah, New Salem Cider. My partner and I have been so taken by this place since we first visited a few years ago. Anytime family or friends visit from out of town, this is one of the first places we take them, especially in fall. We love it so much that we were married in their orchard overlooking a 30-mile view of our beloved Quabbin Reservoir this October. Time moves slower here; it’s difficult not to feel the stress melt off your body the second you walk onto this truly stunning & antique property. Whether visiting during the blooms of spring or colors of fall—world class drinks, rustic snacks, culinary ingenuity, classic architecture, desktop views and a team of friendly, creative & hard-working people define this place as one of finest must-see stops in the whole of southern New England.

Google
Amazing experience, cider is amazing! I Loved the variety of flavor concoctions options! Chilling in the old barn/museum taste testing with the owner was a fun experience. What a beautifully maintained property, right on Nick! Will definitely go back next time I'm through here. On your way out of town be sure to stop at the Quabbin observatory a few houses down the road. That really puts it all in perspective. Thank you!

Yelp
Such a great place tucked away off the main road. Great to stop off and enjoy their cider. Sandwiches and cheese too. Always a pleasant woman to take your order. If you are lucky a fire might be lit outside, view of the Quabbin is beautiful

Yelp
It's as pretty as it looks. The cider is great, the views are amazing, and it a short drive from another great place, the New Salem Art Museum and Academy.

Yelp
A perfect afternoon, drinks, view, low-key, family-run. A real slice of New England culture.

Yelp
Very nice hard cider farm. Your served out of an old barn, so the tasting room is outside. Dress appropriately. Beautiful views, especially in the fall. Only negative is that they don't seem to rotate their ciders, unless I missed it. I've been there spring-summer-fall. We were there just after Mother's Day, and the ticks were horrendous. We were there about an hour and we had at least 10 on our legs between the two of us. They should have it sprayed. So just be aware if you bring any pets or small children, which were there.

Yelp
Such a welcoming and relaxing property! Grab a sandwich from the New Salem General Store up the street and bring a blanket for a picnic. The hard cider is delicious and comes in a variety of flavors. Our favorite was the raspberry beret, a sweeter cider with a beautiful pink hue. A fresh hot cider donut is basically perfection.

Yelp
This is the best cider I've ever tasted. The orchard is a beautiful place operated by a beautiful lady and her children. The view of the Quabbin valley is worth the trip alone not to mention cider donuts. They also serve a variety of hard ciders preserves and apple butter. You might even enjoy on of her children's books she authored.

Yelp
This review is only for their Apple cider syrup. It is fantastic. Tart and sweet, this syrup packs a little punch to pancakes and French toast. But if you're adventurous, it makes a great sweetener for cocktails, drizzled lightly over cheese, mixed with your favorite spicy jalapeño or Chiles-the possibilities are endless. I used it to finish a bread pudding and people are still talking about it.

Yelp
They offer four different Cider's. They are excellent! Get a flight of 4 or a nice glass of any to enjoy. If you are driving on Rt 202 near New Salem MA and like Cider, you have to stop. Only a half mile off Rt 202. The Cider Donuts are also outstanding. They sell 32 oz glass growlers to go that are already cold. Bring a cooler. And yes, if around lunch-time, stop at the General Store right on Rt 202 for a sandwich and then head to this place to relax and enjoy. Can't wait to make the trip again to experience the best of New England.

Yelp
Everything about this place is outstanding; the products, the setting, the vibe, the people. This was our last stop on a Pioneer Valley autumn daytrip. I've always loved the town of New Salem, driving through feels like Children of the Corn. There is one road to nowhere; before the valley was flooded to create the Quabbin Reservoir the road would have led to other towns, which now no longer exist. That road to nowhere is where you'll find New Salem Preserves & Heritage Cider. They have four varieties of hard cider, and you can also buy their own sweet cider, apple cider vinegar, cider syrup, various preserves and dahlies by the bunch. I brought home a growler, some vinegar & cider syrup. We stayed for a glass of hard cider by the firepit, along with a giant pretzel and some amazing homemade mustard. They make cider donuts but had run out by the time we got there late in the day. The views of the reservoir are incredible and the people running the place are friendly and hospitable. A Best of New England kinda place.
