London’s Best Chinese Takeaway | The Best Chinese Restaurants in London | Eater London

"A family-owned diamond in the rough on the main strip of Green Street around the corner from Upton Park station. Shanghai Chinese has the look of that typical old-school neighbourhood Chinese takeaway joint, and has actually been around for over 30 years. Open for day and evening service takeaway. Portions tend to err on the large side, the flame-kissed stir-fried chop suey comes with an abundance of fresh vegetables and actually crisp shredded crispy beef is the ideal balance of sweet, tangy and salty. However, the deep-fried selection is the name of the game here, with well-seasoned salt pepper fried chicken wings and shatteringly crisp gigantic pancake rolls — both perfectly greaseless. —AH" - Jonathan Nunn

The food here is poor ordered through a food delivery site as the reviews were 5 stars. But this was not true the food was tasteless and salty. There was no flavour at all and food very oily. The egg fried rice was with no egg and just soy sauce covered plain rice. Sweet n sour chicken was sickly sour and the black mean sauce was watery. Dont order from here you will be disappointed.

HAVE NOT REVIEWED A TAKEAWAY BEFORE but had to take a moment to say how TERRIBLE this place is. Food was 3o mins late, cold, and incredibly poor. Somehow both bland and disgusting, and smelt off. Both of us felt sick for hours after eating what little we did before the rest went straight in the bin. Even the prawn crackers were poorly done. A new low

Delivery was really bad, came an hour late. Called us when the order was due to arrive and said our address didnt come up on the Sat nav although it does for us on the TomTom and Googlemaps. Ended up having to go downstairs and find the guy. Food was warm, crispy noodles were not crispy. The spring rolls were not crispy either and the complimentary prawn crackers were stale as if they fried it the night before. Felt like I was eating cardboard.

With all this plastic rice stuff going around I wouldn’t put it pass this shop as their rice is hard and really dry compared to any other Chinese takeaway I’ve had the sweet and sour chicken is extremely bland. would never order from here again. Waste of time and money.

New Shanghai might look a bit shabby from outside but don't let that fool you. I've always been impressed with the food here and it's always fresh and quickly prepared. They can rustle up a meal in 10 minutes flat, it takes me that long to get the pans out of the cupboard and turn the hob on. There aren't many Chinese takeaways in Tooting but you only need this one. It's better value than its nearby competitor as well (who shall remain nameless). Check out the shredded Chilli Beef, I get it extra spicy.

I have always rated this Chinese Takeaway but last night was a dissapointment. The hot and sour soup, which has always been fantastic, dark in colour, thick peppery and vinegar was orange, consistency was not as thick and and it was more of a chilli taste as opposed to the peppery taste. Singapore noodles were very bland. Salt & Pepper Ribs had a sugary sweetness to them. Don't know whether they have a new chef in but I was not impressed. I will give them another go. It's a real shame.

If I could give 0 stars then I would but unfortunately I can't. Took 2 hours to arrive, food was cold and nasty, chicken balls were soggy, the mini spring rolls were rock hard and cold. Will I ever order from here again? NO! Would I ever recommend this place to anyone? HELL NO! Just a rip off

Terrible service, made an order on just eat after a postcode search confirmed it, then 10 minutes later they cancelled the order with no email or update at all, so when I eventually called back an hour later the lady told me they are closing soon so can't take orders, then told me it's outside of their delivery range of 3 miles it's actually exactly 2.9 miles which is why it came up on the postcode search. Then continued to tell me that it's just eat's fault.... Will never be ordering from these guys again. Would have given 0 stars if possible.
