First time here. >Beef with broccoli Lunch special with fried rice & egg roll = on point . - staff can seem somewhat abrasive but overall it’s a takeout spot with limited seating and bar with 2-3 stools Definitely some of the better local Chinese food as locals can attest !

Google
New Shanghai Bistro Tates Creek Centre is a hidden gem. It's located right next door to Kroger and several other businesses in that Strip Mall. It has a very quaint look and feel to it. It's my go-to whenever we are shopping or visiting friends/family, in the area. The lady who takes your order is really friendly. She wants to know everything about how you want your food(i.e. spice tolerance, dislikes etc). So, if you're a picky eater, this is a spot for you. What surprised us was the fact that there are pictures of, I'm Assuming, every single dish they serve, on their wall. I have never seen that before. That was pretty cool to see and look at. At least you knew what that dish looks like or supposed to look like. Now, on to the food. Y'all it's HOT, so make sure to blow on it. DO NOT do what I did and just popped it into my mouth, immediately. For the record, I was HUNGRY! Everything we ordered was good, fresh and the stuffed to the rim. Some people reviewing this place, complaining about the prices; but you're getting double the portion..duh. Each plate can easily feed 2 people. You'll have leftovers for sure. There was a review from Ty-Ah May claiming the lady was racist against People of Color, claiming she wrote the 'N-word' on their receipt. Well, she is NOT! Heck, I'm a Person of Color; as well as, the rest of my family and she was nice to us. So please, disregard ALL of those negative reviews and try this place for yourself. They are open every day except on Monday. So plan accordingly. So, if you're in the Tates Creek area and have a hunger for Chinese food, head over to New Shanghai Bistro in Tates Creek Centre.

My first time going was today during lunch. I went because I walked into a co-workers office and the entire office smelled absolutely delicious. I immediately asked them where they got their food from and both people in there had just gotten food from this place and told me what they got. I proceeded to go. I ordered the General Tso Chicken and it was absolutely delicious and so was the fried rice. I am someone that loves GOOD food so it has been hard finding places here in Lexington that are just absolutely delicious to me and this place was! Even as Im sitting here eating it semi cold (dont judge...or do, idc) its still good. This is my go to Chinese restaurant now. So happy I found one so soon! Will definitely be back! And the lady was a good time. We had a great conversation!

I’ve ordered many times from here. On my Birthday, I called to place an order for family of 6. I was told, “this is going to be over $100… you come in and place order” then she quickly hung up. I was prepared to pay the $100, but they won’t get a dime from me again.

Google
Not the best presentation inside, but I'm not eating the pictures. Don't let it distract you. The food is amazing. Best Chinese food I've had in Lexington. I had the Ma La Chicken Spicy.

Google
I called to place an order, a woman answered and told me to wait one moment. After a brief moment of silence she came back and I said I wanted to place an order for delivery. She said something I couldn’t quite make out, said “ hola como estas” to who I presume was a customer that walked in, and hung up.

Google
We enjoyed the friendly conversation and the food was fantastic! Our daughter is very particular on how she likes it and they made just the way she likes it. Perfect! 😋

Google
Not impressed with food. Condiments por quality. My egg roll was greasy ad bad. Sesame chicke was ok.Fried rice was very good. No fortune cookie with meal. Order person hollers loudly when your order is ready. I ate there so this was unpleasant. Portions were huge, enough for two!

Yelp
Their lobby is filled with photos of all their menu entrees which is kinds cool. Some guys were using them to place their order. This must be a Midwest thing because I have not seen this in the Southwest area such as Arizona and California. The No 1 Chinese Restaurant in Martinsville does the same thing. I ordered my usual Pepper Steak with Onions and Bell Peppers with steamed rice, an order of Boneless Spare Ribs, an Eggroll. Overall the quality was much better than I am used too. The Spare Ribs seemed like a better cut of meat, less fatty, and more meaty. The egg roll was not greasy and very tasty. The pepper steak was equally good. Not too many bell peppers and plenty of onions the way I like it. From the time we called in the order until we received the food was really quick. And for a Christmas Day holiday their business was pretty brisk. The woman that takes the orders and dispenses said orders is very accommodating. Our granddaughter likes fried rice with only scrambled eggs in it, no veggies. Their only question is how many eggs would you prefer. So she loves this place and I have to agree with her.

Yelp
I have been coming here for many years and I would call it... average. The lady that owns it is always working the register and she is very nice and always remembers me. Their menu seems to be quite a bit more extensive than most Chinese places I go to. They have many options and the food is fast and good.

Amelia R.

Yelp
So nice, best bourbon chicken in town. Fav Chinese spot in Lex. Highly recommend. She remembers so many peoples orders as well!

Yelp
I was dog sitting my grand pups in Lexington and was craving some Chinese. This place is right by my daughters house. The owner is the sweetest lady and so friendly and happy. I ordered vegetable pad Thai and egg rolls. The pad Thai was filled with veggies and the sauce was yummy. They do not have indoor dining right now but the carry out is open and going strong.

Yelp
I've had some bad chinese before, but this is absolutely the worst chinese I've ever had. All the people rating it so highly have probably never had the opportunity to have real chinese food. General tso, crab rangoon both tasted amd smelled like dirty, old seafood. The dumplings had more dough than filling and were just chewy. The shrimp fried rice was the worst part about it. I called to let them know that the food was just.... awful. He said they make their food fresh and maybe it's because my taste buds didn't like the food... what? I asked him what we can do about the food and he said we cant do anything. Seriously the worst chinese food I've ever had. Do yourself a favor and find another place.
google avatar

Joy V.

Yelp
I've given this spot several chances and honestly I'm not going back. The 3 maybe 4 times I've tried it I have been disappointed in customer service and the food. I'll stick to my fav.

Yelp
This is our weeknight "go to" Chinese when we dont have time to cook or go to grocery. Convenient location in Tates Creek Center. I don't know how, but the owner at the front desk knows our order even when we have not seen her for 6 months. Szechuan Chicken Combo Platter and Szechuan Chicken Combo Platter with cashews are our go to dishes. Fried rice and eggrolls are great too. Give them a try.
google avatar

Callie L.

Yelp
Menu is very misleading. There are multiple locations. Somehow a platter at 7.99 went to 21.99 when subbing chow mein. My order was a platter with an egg roll 1 order of chicken on a stick And crab rangoons Somehow my order was 39.99. I asked if she could explain how it was that much money, she didn't explain, just said chow mein is extra. Then said "do you want it or not?" I said please explain how that is the price and the hung up. We were just trying to try a new place. Guess not
google avatar

Suzanne D.

Yelp
Good food good service Love the hot and sour soup. The house looks mein is wonderful

Dennis L.

Yelp
When you look at the menu on the Yelp app you will see a menu that is probably 5 years old. The current prices are double from what this menu lists. I ordered food based on this menu and thought my bill would be $11.00. When I went to pick up my order the bill was $25.00. And to make it worse, the chicken was terrible!
google avatar

Krista M.

Yelp
Love this place! Super friendly and very good allergy friendly. Thinks I love: chicken chow mein, egg drop soup, egg foo young, mei fun, and moo goo gai pan...The lunch special rocks! Great portions for a great price. Every time I call in a carry out order, Wendy recognizes my phone number and remembers my food allergies. She is amazing! Food is always hot, fresh, and so yummy!
google avatar

Brooke J.

Yelp
The food is you average Chinese fare. Nothing amazing but not terrible either. Egg drop soup was lackluster. Just be aware...when you click on "full menu", the photos of their menu are not current pricing. Didn't realize they were from 6 years ago and was a bit shell shocked when we got the total for the order when we picked it up which was about double what we were expecting. Would recommend going to their actual website for current pricing.

Yelp
Sometimes you just don't feel like going to market. How many times I've passed Shanghai Bistro without a thought to try it. Recently, a friend recommended it, so I decided I may as well call for take-out. My order of Pork Mei Fun was ready in about 30 minutes. A little Soy Sauce and Sriracha, and my chopsticks were digging in. Pretty good for a quick meal. It was a goodly portion, and I have enough for tomorrow. So, next time I'm lazy and hungry, I wouldn't hesitate to head to Shanghai.
google avatar

Judith R.

Yelp
When dinner turned out to be a bust, I put in a call to Shanghai with an order. 10 minutes later I was picking it up! Loved the sesame chicken. The Mongolian beef was way to spicey for my taste, but that was my fault-I should have asked for mild. The beef was very tender. Great experience.
google avatar

Rob M.

Yelp
Best Chinese food in Lexington hands down. I go at least once a week and am always satisfied with the enormous portions. Love this place!!! I

Yelp
They're honestly hit or miss. I've lived close to this location for a while now. The first few times I've eaten there it's been pretty good, but since Covid hit the food has been a little off. I normally order the shrimp lo mein and ask for it extra spicy, but they haven't been adding too much spice here recently. I've also tried their spicy chicken and general Tsos chicken and again has been less than stellar. Fried rice is very d grade and so is the hot and sour soup. Egg rolls always good though. Hope they step it back up soon!
google avatar

Captain M.

Yelp
Food was mediocre and very expensive. We could have gone to PF Changs and had a better meal for the same price. My wife is a little blonde girl from Versailles and makes better chinese food. I doubt we will go back.

Yelp
Yes, it's a pretty typical Chinese takeout type of place. Actually, I'd say this place is a bit above average. It's located in Tates Creek Center, beside Kroger. They do have a few tables, so it's not all about takeout. They do not offer delivery. If you don't know what to order, just look around at the pictures of the tens dishes that they offer. The lady working the front line was super nice but not like intrusive friendly. While I sat and waited for my food, several regulars came in and she was personable, knowing their orders before they blurted them out and one woman even gave her a hug when she entered in. I accidentally tipped over the soy sauce while waiting for my food and asked for a rag and she, without making me feel as a burden, came over and cleaned it up herself. I ordered the beef and broccoli from the dinner combo menu. $8.15 for the big portion of beef and broccoli in addition to fried rice AND an egg roll, was a super good deal. I literally made two meals out of it. The beef quality was above your typical Chinese takeout place. My husband ordered chicken pad Thai and it too was a big portion but wasn't listed on the combo menu, but the price of the egg rolls are only $1.25 each. The only sidenote is that they don't have ice, fountain drinks or courtesy water. They do have bottled water and even a large variety of soda and teas served by the bottle. Again, keeping in mind that their clientele mainly consists of carryout orders.

Julie M.

Yelp
A local restaurant my husband and I frequently order from. I like the selection and service. The amount of food they serve you is definitely worth it and it's delicious.

O G.

Yelp
Food was really good! Owners are nice and this is not affiliated with the other Shanghai Bistro in Hamburg shopping area in Lexington. Totally different restaurants.
google avatar

Kyle K.

Yelp
This place is amazing! My wife and I have been going here for years now and we are never dissatisfied. If something is ever missing or anything of the sorts, they make up for it the next time tenfold! The owners are amazing and always friendly regardless of how busy they are. They inspire us to be the loyal customers we are!
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
Leaving 1 star because the Chinese lady yelled at me blaming me for not understanding her. I said man I speak and read perfectly good English. Maybe it's not everyone else that messes orders up maybe you learn English and you'll have less issues!
google avatar

Christian C.

Yelp
Every time we.order from here the food is consistently excellent. For rake out Chinese it is some of the best Chinese food in town.
google avatar

Robert C.

Yelp
This restaurant has the best staff and always hits a home run on the food. When your looking for the standards or takeout Chinese food they are above the standard. Plus did I say how nice and friendly the staff is.
google avatar

Shannon C.

Yelp
I absolutely love this restaurant! The owners are the kindest and the food is delicious. The steamed dumplings and hot and sour soup are my favorite. I can make a meal of it. Every time I order, my food is ready ASAP and very hot. I can take it home and it still needs time to cool. Another favorite is the general tso's chicken. I also love their lo mein and crab rangoon. So many choices, so much food and such a good price. But it's honestly the friendliness that draws me back every time. The owner knows my order every time I call and I don't even need to tell her what I want anymore. I recommend this restaurant to all of Lexington. This place has been a life saver to me and if you need a bite to eat and friendly service, this is the place for you!
google avatar

Kara R.

Yelp
I love this place always get my order correct it ALWAYS hot !!!! When I call she ALWAYS knows my order . Treated like family no matter what !!!!! I usually get sweet and sour chicken , large shrimp fried rice , crab Rangoon , and general tsos chicken .
google avatar

Lauren R.

Yelp
I live right down the street from this place and thank goodness for it. It is pretty standard American Chinese takeout but it tastes great and is priced well, especially for lunch! I have tried several different dishes (usually spicy) and they're all good. And the owners are very friendly! Highly recommended swapping the eggroll for hot and sour soup.

Nicole N.

Yelp
if i could give zero stars, i would. the WORST customer service, ever and this was our first time ordering here. my husband went in to order us some take-out. he only had a certain amount in his account which was fine because the total was less than the amount he had. he hands his card over to the lady, and she proceeds to say it declined. he had her try another time because AGAIN, the total was less than what was in his account. she takes his card to the back, and i assume proceeded to TIP HERSELF. my husband checks his account and it says ZERO DOLLARS. she was very fucking rude when he questioned her, asking him, "do you even understand english?" when he speaks perfect english. EXCUSE YOU??!! ALSO--if i people are ordering take-out, you do not tip yourself. customers CHOOSE to tip you based on their service and/or experience. we will not be coming here again.
google avatar

Machone L.

Yelp
The lady is always so polite and knowledgeable. The food is amazing and fresh. I love how they have the pictures on the wall to give ppl a visual of what the food looks like instead of just reading it off the menu
google avatar

Chad G.

Yelp
Our go to fast Asian spot. The kindest employees and the best food or it's kind in Lexington.
google avatar

Diane K.

Yelp
Best Chinese food in south Lexington! I haven't been by in a while and wanted to try something new. I ordered the chicken egg foo young combo that comes with an egg roll and rice. Everything was simply yummy, fresh and hot. Portions are more than generous so the meals are a good value. The staff, especially the young lady who works out front, is always friendly and welcoming. I won't even try another place for Chinese food!
google avatar

Jaycee C.

Yelp
Legit as hell. The service was quick, fresh cooked food, I suggest the steamed rice over fried just because it's much fluffier. You won't be dissatisfied, my family will be making this a regular spot.

JE Z.

Yelp
This is my all time favorite Chinese place around! I don't live in lexington anymore but I get it about every time I come to town. Great portions and pricing. Great customer service. Crab Rangoons and egg rolls are the best around! Always crunchy!

Amelia V.

Yelp
I love their bourbon chicken, best I've ever had. It's always consistently hot and delicious. The owner is extremely nice to me and my boyfriend and knows our orders by heart. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Alesha S.

Yelp
This Chinese place is pretty good! We ordered our standards to compare Shanghai Bistro to other places we frequent: Lemon Chicken and General Tso's Chicken. Lunch specials are served 7 days-a-week, and include an egg roll or soup, fried rice, and the entree for less than $6! The fried rice is tasty, but as a hapa, is not to my taste. The Indian fiancé loved it though! General Tso's chicken is crispy, nicely flavored, and tender. I liked the egg roll but the fiancé didn't. They didn't give us any sweet and sour sauce for it, so next time I'll be sure to request it. The Lemon Chicken is great! The breading is a little bit thick, but the flavor of the meat overall is delish. The lemon sauce is okay (Carrie Lee's in Michigan has the best sauce so far). They give steamed veggies underneath the chicken, which was a nice surprise! We'll definitely be back to try more dishes!
google avatar

Alexandria L.

Yelp
Excellent food, and memorable service. Everything on the menu is delicious and you're treated like family every time you walk in the door. The owner is an absolute delight and the crab Rangoon is easily the best in town! #1 pick for Chinese takeout in Lexington
google avatar

Angie T.

Yelp
Came here for the first time tonight. I was immediately greeted in a friendly way by the lady behind the counter (Lisa), even though she was extremely busy. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken dinner platter. It wasn't long before my food was ready, and it was piping hot. Everything is delicious and perfectly cooked. They give you A LOT of food, and it's all reasonably priced. I'll definitely be coming back!

Nancy P.

Yelp
Love this place! Great food and service! The lady that takes my order is sooo friendly and accommodating. I will travel from opposite side of town to purchase food from her.
google avatar

Marie C.

Yelp
Entrees are generous and tasty. The mushroom beef is my go-to, the meat is always tender and the mushrooms fresh. On the downside, the won ton wrappers they use for their appetizers or soups are thick and heavy, very chewy.
google avatar

Nick V.

Yelp
I haven't ordered from here enough to make a fully informed opinion. We only stopped in here because it was close to our destination down the road and we needed some soup and rangoons. The Hot and Sour soup was a hit, our grandmother loved it. The crab rangoons... I wasn't a fan. They weren't bad, but they were exceedingly sweet with little to no krab. I have worked at a Chinese restaurant and have made these before. To me it seemed like they overloaded on the creamcheese and sugar which are cheap and only a few sticks of krab (with a k) in the whole batch. As far as Chinese food in Kentucky, it probably ranks up there. I have so far not been impressed with any of the Chinese food in the state, but one day I am optimistic I will find a place that's edible. On the good side, the owners were actually Chinese. I speak a bit of Chinese and the owners/workers obviously do too.
google avatar

Beth P.

Yelp
Very good food fresh ingredients. I love the moo goo hair pan. Friendly staff. The egg rolls are the best in town. They don't deliver, but it's worth the drive.
google avatar

Allie L.

Yelp
Today was my first experience with Shanghai Bistro and I was pleasantly surprised! I called in a takeout order on my way home from work, expecting to have to wait a few minutes once I got there but my order was hot and ready to go in no more than ten minutes. The veggies were super fresh, the egg rolls were just the right amount of crispy, and the service was great.

Sherry S.

Yelp
Ordered online. Ask for no meat and received with meat. Called and they just pretty much yelled at me and I couldn't understand what they were saying. I had it delivered and she wanted me to come and pick up another one. Very very rude and hateful. With covid 19, you think they might be a little nicer. Trying to help out next time I will just cook myself.
google avatar

Dana R.

Yelp
Excellent food and a pleasant cheerful staff! Has been my go to Chinese restaurant for the past five years.
google avatar

Becca T.

Yelp
I really need to talk about this place. It is my absolute favorite Chinese restaurant. Honestly I eat here at least once a week, oftentimes more. It's a small business and the owner is amazing. They are super nice and the food is always fresh and delicious. It's not a sit-down place, but there are a few tables inside. If you've never tried it, I highly recommend checking it out!

John M.

Yelp
Terrible! When you walk in, its a mess. The woman that takes your order is rude. They do nothing to meet dietary restrictions. You can do better

Michael G.

Yelp
I had never been here before, but will definitely go back. The lady taking the order was friendly and the food was excellent.

Jason C.

Yelp
Best Chinese food in Lexington. Fresh good cuts of vegetables, large portions, nothing is from frozen even the shrimp are larger and better then you would expect in a combination fried rice or lo mein. Also the crab rangoons are awesome, I really didn't like crab rangoons until I tried these.
google avatar

Charlotte D.

Yelp
This is the real deal. Food is cooked FRESH! You can't beat that. Come and enjoy eat-in or take-out. One can call ahead if you choose, however, ordering in is just a short wait. Shanghai is family owned, just ask Wendy!
