One of the best cocktail bars we’ve been to in our travels! My husband and I love finding a nice cocktail bar for an evening when we travel and we loved it so much we came back the next night and would’ve come a third night if they were open on Sundays! The cocktails were incredibly original and so well balanced. Everyone was kind and helpful, and the space had such an awesome vibe to it. It will definitely be our go to spot whenever we’re in town.

fabulous little basement speakeasy behind a mostly hidden bookcase door. every drink was fantastic and the service was excellent. it's pretty small so expect a crowd if you go late

New Society Speakeasy in St. Louis is a hidden gem, blending vintage charm with creative cocktails. With dim lighting, cozy seating, and a prohibition-era vibe, it’s perfect for an intimate night out. The bartenders craft unique drinks that impress. A must-visit for cocktail lovers seeking something special.

If you’re looking for a hidden of hidden bars, here you go. Tucked behind a bookcase and in the basement of Monstera Mezcalera, you descend the staircase into mostly darkness, lit only by creatively curated flavors in your glass. The menu changes often but they keep stalwarts which have proved the test of time. You’ll found their house old fashion, manhattan, and daiquiri are classic but flavorful (the best daiquiri I’ve ever had, like Hemingway and his cats dropped out of the ceiling and helped them make it). The Birds cocktail was great, names for one of the paintings they currently are highlighting. Pro tip-don’t try to eat the origami crane, it is just paper, not a flavor blaster Will definitely be back. Make a reservation through tock.

The new menu is now just a far left-wing political rant on every page. Like left of left field. The left fielder is sitting in the 12th row catching foul balls. If you love politics with your cocktail then this will be your favorite spot ever.

Exactly what you would expect from a ‘speakeasy’. Fun hidden entrance and dark/moody atmosphere. I think the lighting was perfect, the underlighting at the bar makes it easy to read the menu. The menu itself was so thoughtfully and beautifully put together, loved the artwork for the mushroom cocktail. We tried four different drinks, I think the Kernel Sanders was the winner. Service was on point as well, as soon as our first drinks were getting low we were offered a second. Some may find it a bit expensive, but the quality was worth it. Look forward to our next visit.

Chris and the team made this a wonderful experience! Some of the most unique and amazing cocktails I’ve had anywhere. Will definitely visit again.

Chris and Mac are wonderful people who gave the most outstanding service. My husband and I went for my 40th birthday after a nice dinner and the atmosphere and drinks were just the vibe I wanted, we love trying new things and this place makes you do that! And honestly we rarely get good service and the service, friendliness, and just overall company from Chris and Mac was so great. Can't wait to bring people back!

Yelp
Located inside of Monsterra and Mezcal. I tried 4 drinks, and they were all delicious and creative. They're strong, so you get your money's worth. Service is impeccable. Bear and Dani were funny, kind, and attentive. The vibe- everyone looked beautiful, people were laughing, and chatting. A gorgeous spot that is romantic.

Yelp
Booked reservations for some after Valentine's dinner cocktails. Our dinner ran late, but we were just next-door. I came in and asked Mike if we could arrive later and he was very accommodating! Our experience was excellent. They had a Caribbean theme going on for the month of February. This featured a lot of specialty island themed drinks. Chris, our server, was very helpful brought awesome energy and served us well. There seems to have been a spike in the number of new speakeasy themed bars, such as this. However, I would say this one has have the most creatively inspired cocktail menu of them all! Tip: Be sure and arrive early so you can hang out in the main bar called Monstero Mezcalería. They are also a top-notch bar with a lot of creative flare!

Yelp
One of the coolest and chill speakeasy in St. Louis. For one the service is crazy good. The owner personally gave us her personal recommendations for the drinks and they did not disappoint! I honestly forgot the name of mine but it was very good and you can taste the liquor. I did get a second drink the old fashion and it was really good as well. Will definitely be back for more!

Yelp
Been wanting to hit new society for a minute and what an experience. You walk through the book shelf in Grand Spirits and are immersed in a unique, one of a kind speakeasy in the basement. A lot of speakeasies have a very 20's vibe which is great. New society is a smorgasbord of eras. It is rustic, historic, contemporary, and whimsical. So many vibes meshed into one beautifully designed concept. The bar program is great. Inventive and culinary. Everything seems to be based--in some part-- to food which is awesome. The grilled cheese and orchard and the seed were our drinks. The grilled cheese was so unique. Notes of caramelized onions, brie, and sourdough. The apple oil atop the drink offered fantastic aromatics with every sip. Orchard and the seed was boozy, yet bright. The lemon paint and raspberry dusting along the rim elevate this drink a lot. The workers were awesome. Interactive, accommodating, and they all seemed to be having a ton of fun. Also, tons of camaraderie amongst the group which was really cool. I can't wait to get back. You can always order a classic here, but why not step out of your comfort zone and trust the work the bar team has put in place? Dare to be different, New Society has

Yelp
This place was a highlight of my trip to St. Louis. So glad I stumbled upon it when we were in Tower Grove. The ambiance is definitely very dark and cozy and I loved how creative their drinks were. My friend has food intolerances and our server was knowledgeable about what she could and couldn't order, and with their creative drink menu there are a variety of ingredients. If I lived in town I would want to go all the time to try all their drinks before they change (I'm just assuming that they change up their menu since it was based on art, but that might be wrong). Great concept and it was so fun tasting drinks you couldn't get at most places. Some drinks are on the pricier side - my husband got one that was $25 but for the most part they ranged from 14-16 dollars, which for the level of care that is put into each drink, felt like a great deal.

Yelp
I love a hidden speakeasy bar! The wine and cocktails selection is amazing. I love drinks that tells you a story and/or a theme. This location gives you both with these drinks, ambience and themed stories. The customer service is great; they check on you, help with selecting your order. I love the lower hidden lounge!! I didn't get a chance to try the food options but I will be back to visit.

Yelp
This place is SO interesting. I don't want to say too much because it's a really cool experience and their menu is super unique. I promise you'll find drinks here you've never seen or heard of, and you may never again. I recommend eating before so you can spend some time here trying a bunch of different drinks. There's so many cool options. Check it out for yourself!!

Yelp
Wow. I've told so many people about this. I've been wanting a real speakeasy in St. Louis so I was very excited to see this place open up! It was really great when we arrived and were directed down the stairs and the party closest to the bookcase was so shocked there was something there. The basement probably isn't very exciting then the lights are all on, but the ambiance and experience are beyond cool. The bartenders are so friendly and chatty. The drinks were superb. Really, I keep telling everyone the apple pie drink was like liquid apple pie. How?!?!?! This definitely is a special treat and if I have friends come into town I would try it out again, but it's pricey, especially for St. Louis, so not a quickly outing!

Yelp
Alot of really unique options, delicious foods. It was nice that each res is a 90 minute booking, so plenty of time to drink and chat. MacKenzie, our bartender was amazing and we received a celebratory bday drink too.

Yelp
The Ultimate Speakeasy in St. Louis Looking for an intimate cocktail experience? Featuring one of a kind libations, creative concoctions, and over the top presentation, this basement speakeasy in the middle of the city is the vibe you're looking for. @newsocietystl located inside @grandspiritsbottleshop on @southgrandstl Stellar Indulgences: -Apple Pie with Fireball cotton candy was one of my faves! -Pumpkin Three Ways- literally 3 different drinks featuring the versatility of pumpkin. Yelp
I think New society has become my absolute top 1 among all of the craft cocktails places in all St. Louis. First of all, it's a speakeasy so you know it's gonna be a unique experience. When you enter from South Grand, you will see a separate bar/liquor store called Grand Spirit. At first, I thought they offered the same menu but turned out, they had a different selections of drinks for that area. You can grab a drink while waiting for your table. I made reservations in advance because we had a party of 5. You can do it via their website. It's $2.5 per person to deposit for the reservation. The employee explained to me that unfortunately they had people taking their cups and things at the bar, hence the deposit. If you only go with a smaller party (3 or less), I think walk-ins are fine. Since the bar is located right on the south grand, parking is on both side of the street or you can find a spot in the neighborhood street around. If you come after 9pm, there are plenty of spots. I'm not going to spoil the fun entrance to New Society. Once we got to our table, I was immediately entranced by the cool ambience. It was smaller than I expected but very cozy. The music matched the vibe and I enjoyed it very much. What really stood out to me about New Society was their mixology. Their drink menu was so unique and well thought out. It was a culinary experience as much as a mixology one. I ordered the Mashed Sweet Potatoes and I absolutely loved the different nuanced flavors. Price wise, I don't think it is higher than your average craft cocktails. I think it's definitely worth it. I cant wait to come back and try out more drinks from them.

Yelp
I ended up finding out about New Society on Tock. We made a spur of the moment reservation for cocktails at 10 PM. This was an interesting cocktail spot. They had very unique experimental cocktails that didn't taste like anything I had tried before. Even the menu was detailed, explaining each drink and what one can expect from the drink. We tried a few different drinks - the one With the shrimp, Kernel Sanders and La Vida loca. All the drinks were distinct and lived up to the expectation. The place itself can be a bit hard to find. It's located in the ground floor inside a wine bar. Definitely worth trying it if you like trying unique cocktails.

Yelp
New Society Friday! Check out this speakeasy vibing spot New Society on South Grand open Friday & Saturday nights! The name "Society" In my recent travels, I've seen several spots with "Society" in the name. The term "café society" described groups of people and cliques who hung around in swanky cafés and bars in London, NY & Paris in the late 19th century like the 21 Club in NYC for example.

Autumn R.

Yelp
Caution: you need to have a reservation. Luckily they had a spot open but it came with an hour time limit before we had to head out. It really resembles someone's dark unfinished basement with comfortable seating and dim lights that made for tough menu reading. The shining star are their cocktails, some of the best in the city imo

Yelp
New Society is doing something no one else is. Their menu is 'culinary forward' which translates to drinks that taste like food. We tried Corn, BBQ and Beans and were pleasantly surprised by each. It tastes like a meal in a glass in a really fun way! The atmosphere is dark and moody and the bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable. There were too many drinks to try in one visit, so I'll be back!

Yelp
What an absolute underrated gem this place is for St. Louis. Nestled in the basement, behind a bookcase of Grand Spirits, New Society has only about 24 seats, so make sure to get a reservation in advance. We were greeted with a cute welcome drink and then had a while to peruse their extensive menu of options. Many of their cocktails are experimental and based on food items (clearly inspired by sustainability, history and ethical sourcing of food). At first we were a little skeptical about getting a drink called "Bean and cheese" or "BBQ" but wow were we pleasantly surprised. We had four cocktails between us and enjoyed them all. Plus for how involved the cocktails, are, the service is fast and attentive. Overall it is a unique concept and one of my new St. Louis favorites.

Yelp
New society is everything I want in a cocktail bar. I simply cannot say enough good things. Speakeasy vibes as you pull open the door via a bookcase in Grand Spirits, that leads to a candlelit staircase down to the bar. The space is dark, intimate, and absolutely beautiful. Everything is meticulously thought out, from the decor, to the menu, to the cocktails themselves. Absolutely love the stories written in the menu. So much fun! The drinks are amazing, and though they rotate out they make sure to keep the favorites from the previous menu on the next one. The favorites of the evening were most definitely the charcuterie board, and the unbiased love. The staff was attentive, and knowledgeable. I absolutely cannot wait to go back!

Yelp
The basement speakeasy under Grand Spirits had a very eclectic layout and decor and a very chill vibe; minimalistic with great music. A perfect hangout spot. Very few tables, so reservations are needed on weekends for sure. Your reservation gets you about 90 minutes of time on busy weekends; longer if there aren't reservations behind you. Cocktails range from twists on old classics (Manhattan, Daquiri, Sazerac) to very inventive / experimental flavors and textures. We had the Tunnel Vision, Daiquiri, Kitchen Sink, Sazerac among others. We enjoyed everything we had. Service was attentive and informative as well. We did not try the food. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
This place is a fancy south city basement, but not in a bad way. When you think speakeasy, I feel like this is what should come to mind. It's well decorated, but there's no hiding that it's a basement. It's kind of interesting the juxtaposition of being in a basement and being served some of the most interesting cocktails I've had in a long time. The service was awesome. The cocktail menu is creative and was a bit of a mindbender for the taste buds. The food was okay, but not the star of the show.

Yelp
Fantastic and unique experience! As a huge fan of speakeasys and tiki bars, it's great to see a sophisticated, themed experience like this. After accessing the entrance through a hidden door inside Grand Spirits, you descend into what private subterranean bar. The lighting is low and moody. The decoration is spare. But that's because the real focus is the menu and the cocktails. Both are super creative and you can tell much thought was put into the naming, the preparation and the story behind each drink. The staff is also too-notch and very friendly. Will definitely be returning.

Yelp
Bespoke cocktails were amazing. I tried 5 total and my absolute favorite was the La Vida Loca...strawberry foam topping was phenomenal!!

Yelp
IF I COULD GIVE THIS BAR 6 STARS I WOULD!! Vibes? Immaculate. Staff. Incredible. Menu? Singular. Atmosphere? Sexy. Come here.

Yelp
Wonderful in concept, but poor execution. No website or phone number, which I guess was an intentional move to create mystique. The drinks are actually very good, but the setting is rather undesirable. It's in a basement with low ceilings and no light. Only candles and subtle lighting underneath the bar for the mixologists. If there was mold or dirt (which there honestly might be?) you can't see it. The menu is barely legible due to tiny faded font and such poor lighting. If they could spruce up the atmosphere to make it more sultry (and visible) it could be better. I worry about customers falling down the rickety stairs upon entry, honestly. Love the talented people behind it all, but it just seems like they rushed it without investing the funds to make it really pop. We left wondering if they even took time to think it through. Hope it evolves into something more.

Greg M.

Yelp
A very creative and fun menu! The deviled egg sliders were great, and the Charcoochie board cocktail was insane!!
