20 Iconic Dishes That Define Seattle - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Mariah Carey has The Emancipation Of Mimi—Rainier Teriyaki has this. It’s a combo plate of all the things this South Seattle counter spot does best. Charred chicken thigh with a caramelized teriyaki sauce that hugs every bite, and golden gyoza with such blistered skin it's like they were put in a pottery kiln. Seattle-style teriyaki was invented a little further north, but this place serves it in its best form." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley, gabe guarente

Google
Very delicious, reliable chicken! I love the yakisoba chicken combo, but this time chose the standard combo, very good. The chicken was moist and charred perfectly with the sauce. I wish that the salad was served in the side container so I could have more chicken. The rice was very fluffy. I wish they served teriyaki sauce on the side but it was very well done. Will definitely get takeout again soon!!

Google
This is easily my go-to teriyaki joint in West Seattle! The food is great with huge, filling portions...if you've ever had the Teriyaki/Katsu combo you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. The employees are very friendly too. Would recommend with zero hesitation 😎😋

Google
New Terriyaki and Wok West Seattle Fast and quick Japanese style food. Perfect for those on the go. Easy for Lunch. Lots of Dinner options as well. I ordered the Chicken Yakisoba... a timeless favorite. I always accentuate the dish with the hot chili sauce. This dish works very fast with chopsticks 🥢... Scarfed down my noodles in minutes very good. Better choice over the many fast food chain restaurants...

Google
BEST in the city. Only place I know of that has coleslaw instead of the typical mid-level iceberg lettuce salad. The coleslaw really, truly elevates whichever menu item you choose. Get all your teriyaki/chinese staples and standards here. It's all excellent.

Joe Lessmann

Google
The best teriyaki in Seattle, hands down. Spicy chicken is THE BOMB!! Gyoza, too. Also, get an extra cabbage salad on the side. Great for the next day. :)

Iconic Thibodeaux (Iconic Thibodeaux)

Google
Reasonably priced, the food slaps, and it came our relatively quick. We had the sweet and sour chicken wok and the Ramen soup. Everything was great and came out hot. Cool little spot.

Google
Was walking across the street to buy Subway when I caught a whiff of the teriyaki chicken here. It smelled delicious 😋 I could not resit and had to try it. The lady working was very friendly and 10 minutes later I was eating very delicious and tender teriyaki chicken 🐔

Google
Hands down the best tofu teriyaki I have ever had! My boyfriend and I eat here at least twice a month. The service is great and their food is fantastic. See you guys next week!

Yelp
Szechwan Beef $17.95 + Substitute Fried Rice $3.99: So good. After the first time we tried this place, we came back the same week because we couldn't stop thinking about. The sauce is amazing. Honestly if I could just have the sauce plus the fried rice, I'd be in heaven. The beef on my last visit was quite tough, so I do hope that was just an off day. I always forget to ask if they could do the fried rice without peas, since that's my only gripe with it. Pork & Skewered Prawn Teriyaki $18.95 + Substitute Fried Rice $3.99: I don't eat prawn but I tried the pork, and it was very tender. Especially compared to the beef I had this visit. The teriyaki sauce was tasty too. I think we asked once if we could build our own combo, but the answer was we had to stick to the pre-set combos on the menu. It's hard for me to stray from my Szechwan beef and it's not part of any combo. I do think in the past we've tried General Tso's chicken, Mongolian Beef, Chicken Teriyaki, Beef Teriyaki. But I haven't repeated any of those. I do want to try subbing yakisoba noodle for $3.99 next time. ***** My Star Ratings: 1 Star - Terrible. Just thinking about it makes me angry. 2 Stars - Meh. Unlikely for me to return. 3 Stars - OK. Open to coming back, but wouldn't go out of my way to. 4 Stars - Yummy! Will definitely return if I haven't already. 5 Stars - AMAZING!!! Would plan my day or even a trip around eating here.

Yelp
Their Oriental Chicken Salad with cabbage and dressing on the side is still amazing. They may have changed ownership but still have a large menu, plenty of indoor seating and great food portions. I have left overs.
google avatar

Alice W.

Yelp
Lots of teriyaki, yakisoba, fried rice, and wok special options. They have plenty of tables for dine in. It seems like most people get their food to go. Tried the Friday daily special - chicken teriyaki and chicken katsu served with rice and wasn't impressed. The chicken teriyaki was drenched in teriyaki sauce and was too salty and the chicken katsu tasted dry. If I were to get teriyaki from here again I would ask for teriyaki sauce on the side.

Yelp
New favorite teriyaki spot in west Seattle! Teriyaki sauce was delicious, great ratio of chicken to rice to salad (the salad is slightly dressed with a yummy sauce/dressing) and a generous amount of chicken! Not to mention all for the best price I've found in town. Nice customer service and you can dine-in if you want. I will be coming here probably once a week. Devoured it too quickly and forgot to take a photo.

Yelp
I was in the mood for some good Chinese food last night, and regrettably West Seattle is lacking in that. I have had some good meals from New Teriyaki & Wok over the years, and I decided to try them again. I ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken and Mongolian Beef Combo and also an order of Pork Fried Rice. Very impressed. The food was extremely flavorful, and it was fresh and hot, and the portion size was perfect. The hostess at the front was very friendly and she was coordinating several orders. Thank you New Teriyaki & Wok, the food was phenomenal.

Yelp
super good Teriyaki Beef - i love Beef Teriyaki and this place has my favorite version, it's soooo tender and yummy! the service is quick and friendly. i like how clean it is and how there are a lot of places to sit :)

Yelp
We came here due to the good reviews I've read on yelp but either the reviews are fake or we had a bad cook yesterday. We ordered the Mongolian Beef and the Chicken Teriyaki. Besides that the meat was dry in both dishes, the flavoring was very bland. Won't come here again. The search for a good Chinese restaurant continues....

Yelp
Love this place. The food here is amazing and the people are very nice. You can order ahead and pick up or dine in. The restaurant is clean and it's right next to the Thriftway, so there's easy parking. I really enjoyed the food here. The tastes are so strong and it's not salty. Overall, this is definitely my go-to Teriyaki place in West Seattle

Yelp
Ok, this is technically the closest teriyaki place to my home, but I honestly think it is also the best in West Seattle! I've gotten takeout here many times and we used to dine in during the "before times". For ordering, I usually stick to the classic, Chicken Teriyaki. You get grilled chicken teriyaki, two scoops of white rice, and an Asian salad. I have also tried the Chicken Yakisoba, which is also good, but you don't get a salad. They have a very large menu, so there is something for everyone. Besides teriyaki and yakisoba, there is also fried rice, bento, tempura, soup, egg rolls, gyoza, etc. I really like this place because the staff is friendly, you get the food quickly, and the portions are generous. I would recommend this place to others.
google avatar

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
I love the fried rice and egg rolls. Yum. I always ask for the rice with no peas and they always deliver

Ryne B.

Yelp
Very, very good takeout teriyaki. Plenty of sauce yet still crispy and a large portion for some leftovers. I'll be back! Much better than Grillbird, the place up the street
google avatar

Alisa E.

Yelp
I love this place. They have consistently good teriyaki. I either get the beef or chicken teriyaki with extra meat. It's always tasty and there have been no quality issues in the 9 years I have been ordering from here. I have an issue with other teriyaki places using fatty poor quality meat so this is my go to place in West Seattle. This place uses quality meat and not a bunch of fat on the beef. They are fast, cheap, and consistently good. I also highly recommend their yakisoba.
google avatar

Becca S.

Yelp
Love this place, its my go to for West Seattle Teriyaki. They work very quick and the food is great.

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Here's a suggestion - if you don't like too much sauce on your dish then it will be best to get em on the side. I ordered a teriyaki combo and it had way too much sauce on the meat. The sauce blocks out the taste of everything else. The rice was okay. The cabbage salad was okay.
google avatar

Athena B.

Yelp
I have not ate here for quite some time... And our dinner did not work out at home today with all the extra heat we didn't feel like cooking so I decided to go here because we have been here a few years ago I think and enjoyed it. But I did not enjoy it today it was very sugary. I ordered the chicken breast teriyaki and I asked for no rice and extra cabbage when I got it I had extra teriyaki sauce and extra salad dressing for the cabbage and they were all so sugary that when I opened the to-go container that it was filled and covering the chicken and the cabbage with liquid. After a few bites I actually had to take the chicken out and run it underwater to get most of it off and got a bit of a stomach ache from eating so much sugar. If you do come here possibly ask for your sauce on the side if you're not into a lot of sauce or a lot of sugar

Yelp
Broccoli beef is good Chicken chow mein Whit meat chicken teriyaki All great a little pricy
google avatar

Yelp
Best hidden Gem in west seattle. I both want to tell everyone about it, so they stay open, and not tell anyone and selfishly keep it all to myself.
google avatar

Jake T.

Yelp
Burnt beef. Bland food. Something weird underneath the beef making it look like a bigger serving. Will not go back.

Yelp
Okay, so I've found West Seattle to be lacking in great Asian food of any kind, but I was hardcore craving gyoza so I looked around DoorDash to see whether anything looked promising. Saw this place and decided to give it a go. I've now ordered it twice and it has earned a forever spot on my list of local favorites. The flavors are fantastic and the portions are generous. The gyoza and egg rolls are both delectable. I've tried two different main courses (pork fried rice and spicy chicken teriyaki, if I remember right) and those were both very good and I had leftovers of the fried rice because they gave me so much. All in all, if you're looking for a great teriyaki place, your search is over.

Yelp
This is the WORST TERIYAKI EVER! A very busy place, however the woman taking orders doesn't like to answer questions. The website I went to is the reason I went there. Advertisement on website is very MISLEADING! PRICES ARE TWICE AS MUCH AS ADVERTISED. First time going there and the woman taking orders - very unfriendly, speaks English very clearly, yet speaks Korean when speaking to cook. FOOD QUALITY IS POOR, THOUGH A VERY POPULAR BUSY PLACE! I paid $20.00 for a combo chicken breast and beef teriyaki. The chicken was like dried chicken leather, the beef was full of gelatinous substance and had a lot of ligaments and the entire order was drowned in far Too much red teriyaki sauce - JUST WASN'T GOOD AND NOT EVEN HOT YET ALONE EVEN WARM - DISGUSTING!!! MADE ME SICK TO MY STOMACH AND I WAS SO HUNGRY!!! I tried to capture the image of the menu on their website but it wouldn't allow it, however this is the website: https://www.google.com/maps/uv?pb=!1s0x54904119963d1ec3%3A0x67a06b4857149272!3m1!7e131!4s!5sNew%20Teriyaki%20!15sCgIYIQ&%20Wok&hl=en-US&imagekey=!1e2!2smOPJOd4iwwl7bl7EpCc0pg If the prices on the website were correct, then the saying is true: "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!"

Yelp
Just picked up this food first time trying this place. The food looks like it is meant for a dog or a cat. I got the honey garlic chicken. It is basically a pile of breading. Not much chicken whatsoever. Will not be going back. Very disappointed.

Joel E.

Yelp
Amazing! Customer service is great, food-service means that this team will perfect your custom request. I had a general Tso's dish which was coming in at 100%, on flavor. Not a monotone blah-blah taste at all... joyous colors in that General Tso's dish from New T&W. Considerable variation to the sweet heat that their sauce puts together. Bring on the four stars!!!! There's a reason this place has been a local, non-chain, popular favorite in West Seattle for five years (2022) and counting... It's because it's nondescript from the outside but the food is top notch. I've visited and I saw various to go order clients, coming and going... during my wait early for my food. The whole place is spotless, and after Covid is defeated it's going to be full of diners.

Yelp
For close to home, this is our go-to teriyaki location. They also have a few other items that are outside the teriyaki restaurant spectrum, so you have a wide array of delicious choices. We prefer their chicken options. Nice staff, fast and always polite. Order over the phone and avoid the service fees of food delivery apps if you can go pick up.
google avatar

Hai T.

Yelp
Just ordered Mongolian beef.. This tasted like eating cardboard and absolutely bland no flavor at all. I immediately toss the rest of it in the trash after one bite. For 16 bucks I expected a bit more out of this. Absolutely horrible!
google avatar

David J.

Yelp
Pretty standard teriyaki place - got the chicken breast teriyaki. It was 2 meals for me - seemed like 2 fairly big (but thin) chicken breasts, 2 scoops of steamed rice, and what I think was some kind of cole slaw - which was unexpected but I liked it as a nice contrast to the rest of the meal. This place won't blow your mind but it's a solid option and you get a good bit of food for the money. And they were quick! I ordered at around 545 and it was ready within 10 minutes.

Yelp
I have been blessed to be born in Seattle. Seattle has teriyaki on almost every corner and our teriyaki shops are just so dang good!!! LA has tacos, Portland has donuts, Seattle has teriyaki. And I honestly, I never knew this until I went to school in Tacoma. I am an alum of PLU and I can confidently say that Tacoma has TRASH teriyaki. Tacoma teriyaki shops are sparse, low quality, and not appealing. It was this stark contrast that made me realize how good Seattle has it in terms of good teriyaki. What do I mean by this? Well... when I think of teriyaki places I rank them into tiers. My least favorite teriyaki shop in Seattle is in a higher tier than almost every single teriyaki restaurant that I have been to outside of Seattle. Now, with that context out of the way. I am a huge fan of New Teriyaki and Wok. I really only get one thing here (hence the 4 star rating), but I have had many things that are quite good! I appreciate the family feel, great service, flavor of their dishes, and how large the portions are! My favorite/go-to item is the house chow mein. It's amazing! The noodles are always perfect, the cuts of the protein in the dish are perfectly sized, it is a huge dish, and I'm never dissatisfied after ordering. All-in-all I highly suggest giving this amazing place a try! It is tucked away in west Seattle, but definitely worth taking a trip past the broken bridge.
google avatar

Rachel H.

Yelp
Get the spicy chicken teriyaki. Mix the creamy side salad with the chicken and rice. Get addicted to it. Don't miss the chicken fried rice. They cut the chicken up into little pieces so you can get some with each bite.
google avatar

Andy K.

Yelp
My favorite teriyaki spot in West Seattle~ It is conveniently located next to West Seattle Thriftway, gas station, BECU ATM, Dominoes, McDonalds. They got some competition right next to them but, they win my business 99% of the time. I have tried pretty much everything on the menu and it never failed me. My top picks are, chicken teriyaki, general tso chicken, chicken yakisoba with a kick(spicy). I love the recent renovation make over. Kudos to the business owners~ In summary, great food, friendly staff, reasonably priced, great location. Please go give it a shot!
google avatar

Marco D.

Yelp
Consistently great teriyaki, we've come here many times and enjoyed the food every time. Especially the lunch combos always come with lots of yummy meat. Just know that if you order the General Tso's chicken, which comes advertised "with steamed broccoli" you will get about one tiny floret and if you want more you should order the side of broccoli for $3.50 :p
google avatar

Linda S.

Yelp
Gatewood was the neighborhood of the week. Another teriyaki hole-in-the-wall strip mall joint. But it's all new and shiny and clean! They ask to see your vaccination card, which I appreciate. The food is delicious! I think they put chinese five-spice in everything. The broccoli beef was cooked well, although the meat had too much cartilage. The brocolli was soft enough to absorb the sauce. The only thing is, they use bamboo shoots, which were kind of nasty and I pushed them aside. My son had yaki soba and I was a little jealous because it was so good.
google avatar

Shweta T.

Yelp
Delicious! I ordered dinner here in late December and it was one of those nights. The food was delicious and we wanted to go back just a few days later, but it was a day that they were closed. The real star for me was actually the rice and cole slaw ('salad' on the menu). The slaw dressing had tangled with the rice and it was just so tasty. I would order again from here for sure, and the portions are generous enough for two meals.

John C.

Yelp
I returned to W. Seattle before COVID ordering a large bowl was satisfying. Now, the bowel is petite in size, and the price has gone up. The vegetables had water chestnuts which were my first ever in a teriyaki bowl and I lived in a few states (WA, OR, CA, AZ). Yes, there is no competition in W. Seattle for a Teriyaki, but I will travel the extra miles to get one. The gas I spend is the same I will pay for a petite bowl of Teriyaki.
google avatar

Frank B.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in West Seattle to grab fried rice... Really flavorful rice with nice nuggets of chicken throughout the box. Like I'm mining for chicken gold and hit the jack pot plus loads of real flavor for your taste buds. Teriyaki Chicken isn't bad either and you have a expanded menu of other items to enjoy. Lunch time specials do exist so look at the wall menu behind the cashier for your choices. If your thirsty they have fountain soda and a bottle & can selection if the refrigerator for you to grab. Everything is moderately priced with large servings. Location is wedged between McDonalds & ThriftWay so should not be difficult to find. Enjoy the meal.
google avatar

Dominic H.

Yelp
Love this place. New management and fast and friendly. Seattle teriyaki at its finest.
google avatar

Kjerstin R.

Yelp
I got the chow mein teriyaki combo with fried rice. I liked the teriyaki but thought the rest was just okay. Granted, I did order it like fifteen minutes before they closed. I will come back and give them another try and go at a better time.

Arielle D.

Yelp
Sadly in my ten years of eating here, the food quality has reached a low. The General Tso's used to be my favorite out of anywhere in Seattle, by far! But the last couple of times have been less and less good, and today I'm finding it hard to even want another bite. It's no longer crispy, flaky, juicy, and covered in sauce on the outside - it's now half as sauced with nearly no visible breading with zero crunch or flakiness to it. The chicken itself is also drier than a bone, and far too chewy. It almost has the texture of jerky. I'm adding a star for the egg rolls which are still good. Overall, maybe the other menu items are better, but I hope they change this recipe back to what it was.

Toni R.

Yelp
Okay, I don't write bad reviews, but I am annoyed of the price I paid for the most awful meal I have ever ordered. We ordered the beef teriyaki and Mongolian beef. The teriyaki was not the same texture of any other teriyaki I have ordered anywhere else, and they make you pay extra to make it spicy; that's a first. The Mongolian beef was just shreds of dry meat with no flavor. The onions were also very dry. I cannot get over how dry it was. The tempura shrimp ordered were once frozen. I know that because they taste just k=like the ones that you can buy from Costco. Those items and one can of soda . . . over $70!!! I get this is W Seattle, but seriously . . . Get your teriyaki somewhere else.
google avatar

Evan S.

Yelp
Fair. Food not as described - a dish with steamed broccoli included exactly one puny and sad piece of broccoli and the container favored rice instead of the main dish. This is just standard teriyaki stand fare - nothing at all stand out or even close to it.
google avatar

Frank C.

Yelp
Hands down the best Teriyaki spot in West Seattle! The customer service is very good. The food quality is top-tier, and the portion sizes are very very well. All the staff and work place followed all the Covid protocols and extremely friendly to customers. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone coming to visit West Seattle or is a local. The only sad part is that they are closed on Sundays.. no worries definitely recommend!
google avatar

Sebastian N.

Yelp
I haven't eaten all of the teriyaki that Seattle has to offer quite yet, but it's hard to imagine anything much better than this place. The chicken had a nice char on it which gave it a smoky flavor, and the teriyaki sauce wasn't just sweet it had some deep notes to it. The one negative I'll say is that our coleslaw was drowning in dressing. We also got the udon soup, which I can't recommend enough. It's like the best chicken noodle soup ever created. I told my wife that it's what I want next time I'm sick. The dude at the counter was a little but gruff, but it was clear he was in the weeds. Coming back to this place for sure.
google avatar

A.R. W.

Yelp
Food is a little below average and expensive. The teriyaki is better than the wok dishes, but chicken is dry and the beef is tough. The gyoza and egg rolls are obviously commercial and bought frozen. The wok dishes with vegetables are mostly celery with bland sauces. The fried rice and yakisoba are also nothing special.
google avatar

Fred N.

Yelp
I love this place! I stick to the basics, but I'm so glad to have good teriyaki in Morgan Junction. Very large menu, so lots of choices.

J H.

Yelp
I usually order chicken or beef teriyaki and one of the chinese meals, either almond chicken or cashew or mogolian beef. There is a huge selection and to have both Japanese dishes and Chinese is a lot of choice. I have came here on and off for at least 5 years, always delicious and prompt. Even though I only see the cook, who I think is owner and maybe one person at the front, it only has a few people taking the orders. I see some reviews about prices and service. For anyone looking for perfect posting on the web, I have never seen anything on web except someone taking a photo of a menu. Prices are expensive anywhere these days, so ask for price when you call if that is an issue. But I think each meal is very large portions and really like two. Delicious food in a small shopping area behind the Shell station. good food.
google avatar

Judson B.

Yelp
Ordered chicken and gyoza but it all tasted like seafood. Couldn't finish it. The people were kind and I as able to get a refund since I had only a few bites.
google avatar

Teran E.

Yelp
The best tofu teriyaki around. Perfect amount of sauce and the tofu is cut into the perfect size. They are always super friendly and I have been thanked multiple times for continuing to order from there during the lock down. They are great!

Yelp
I was having a craving for some Teriyaki and since W Seattle is now our new stomping grounds, I thought we should try out one of the many teriyaki spots available. Last time we had tried a different joint and taken it to go. One thing I've learned about teriyaki is that sometimes to go is a totally different package and feel from dining in so off to dine in we went. This location was in such an odd spot as it was way down California (to where you almost wondered if it was still 'on' California) and it shared its parking lot with a Shell gas station, Dominos and BECU ATM. So needless to say, the parking was a bit cramped and we had to wait for a car to leave to even get a spot. We get inside and it was pretty dead. They had menus behind the counter and some photos of some of the items blown up. I originally was going to order the shrimp fried rice & a small 2 pc of the shrimp tempura. My husband decided he wanted the shrimp tempura too so we got the 6pc meal instead of two 2 pc appetizers (not sure this was a better deal but that's another story). We waited for our food and just kind of hung out talking. The order took about maybe 10 mins or so and my fried rice & the shrimp tempura came out first. My husband had ordered teriyaki chicken but his didn't come out for a good 10 more mins (thought that was kinda odd). What caught me off guard (and why the low rating) is that my shrimp fried rice portion didn't seem that large. My husband thinks I'm crazy but I've ordered many a fried rice dish and usually have leftovers to boot. My plate was a smaller sized plate and I was able to finish it without having any leftovers. The other complaint was that my eggs within my fried rice were burnt. Not just like a piece here and there - the whole thing. I make fried rice at home when I have the urge and while it's not impossible to burn, it can be pretty hard to make that mistake if you are a restaurant. So it tainted the whole meal as it was practically impossible to 'eat around it'. The shrimp tempura plate was the same price as our other meals since it was a 'meal' and there was one scoop of white rice which my husband was trying to eat since the rice seemed a little on the stingy side with his chicken. There was some coleslaw/salad which comes with the teriyaki and tempura which had run and leaked all over the other food. It totally made the food inedible if you're not a fan of the sauce (which we're not). Overall, the fried rice wasn't fantastic for me and it didn't blow me away with anything else. I"ll mark this place as done on my list and move on to the next teriyaki spot to check out.

Yelp
Loved the Prawn yakisoba! It Tasted great and the flavor is amazing every time I went in

Tricia W.

Yelp
We went in there last night. We ordered five orders of chicken and pork Teriyaki to go. We left an $8 tip for our to go order. I asked for hot mustard and she gave us one tiny 1 oz serving of it. I then asked her if I could have a couple more since I had five orders. She actually scowled at me for asking. I said go ahead and charge me if you have to and that's exactly what she did charge me $0.50 for two little orders of hot mustard. After an $8 tip and ordering five orders to go I can't believe she charged me and our food was cold and her attitude was cold it was such an unpleasant experience I will never go back in that place again there's way better teriyaki place in West Seattle. You lost a long time customer.

Yelp
Seven years in West Seattle and I finally decide to try this place... love their food... I think this will be my regular place for takeouts... Parking can be an issue some nights
