We have season tickets to the New Theatre in Overland Park, and a big part of why we return year after year is the pre-show dining experience. It’s elegant, relaxed, and very high quality—nothing about it feels rushed or casual. The food before the show is exceptional. Everything is thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and consistently delicious. It feels refined and intentional, more like a well-run restaurant experience than anything else. The quality is obvious, and it sets the tone for a classy night out. The shows themselves are always strong. The productions are professional, well cast, and engaging, and the intimate layout of the theater makes every seat feel connected to the performance. Service throughout the evening is polished and seamless. The staff is attentive without hovering and clearly experienced at managing the flow of the night, from dining to curtain time. Everything just works the way it should. The New Theatre isn’t just a place to see a show—it’s a complete evening experience. Between the refined pre-show dining, consistently good performances, and excellent service, it’s easy to see why we committed to season tickets and why we continue to look forward to every visit.

Watching Jersey Boys at the New Theatre & Restaurant in Overland Park was an amazing experience! The cast absolutely nailed the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons — the vocals, the energy, and the iconic songs like “Walk Like a Man” and “Big Girls Don’t Cry” had the whole audience hooked from start to finish. On top of the fantastic show, the entire dining experience was top-notch. The Italian Margarita was refreshing and perfectly balanced, and the espresso martini was a rich treat. We loved the desserts — the turtle cheesecake with chocolate and caramel drizzle was decadent, and the toffee butter cake was warm, buttery perfection. What really made the night extra special were the waiters. They were friendly, attentive, and incredibly efficient. Despite serving a full house, they made us feel like we were their top priority — always checking in, refilling drinks, and making sure we were comfortable. You could tell they enjoy what they do, and their great attitude added so much to the overall atmosphere. If you’re looking for an incredible show paired with delicious food and outstanding service, Jersey Boys at New Theatre is a must. Can’t wait to come back!

This is one of the places that you can go with friends, or a perfect date night! The food and service are unmatched! Highly recommended! We came and watched Clue! The show was better than one could imagine! The cast were captivating and they put on a splendid show! We will come again, for sure!

My first time visited to see Rumors, starring Alley Mills, and had an incredible experience. The show was lighthearted and fun, perfect for a date night. Alley Mills delivered a fantastic performance, keeping the audience engaged and entertained throughout the evening. The food was amazing! The buffet-style dinner was well-maintained, with four lines to ensure everyone was served quickly and efficiently. The variety and quality of the food were excellent—something for everyone to enjoy. Drinks were also top-notch, and the service was friendly and attentive. I had a wonderful time, and I’ll definitely be back for future productions. Highly recommend this place for a night out!

GREAT FOOD AMAZING SHOW LOVE LIVE THEATRE SHOWS 😻 This was my second time here I’m a pescatarian and the options are great for vegetarians even I would say. Loved the desserts! Servers are so polite and helpful. Shows are always so fun to watch!

This is a wonderful place! I was at such a performance for the first time and I was absolutely delighted with everything that was happening! The waiters' service was like in the most expensive restaurants, our Katie was charming and kind! Our wishes were fulfilled instantly. The salad that was brought to us was simply the freshest! A large portion. Amazing warm bread, which was served with the salad, was in a basket, wrapped in a napkin! Everything was also wonderful in the buffet - a wide selection of dishes, the food was fresh and moderately hot, everything was delicious! The pasta in a delicate raw sauce, spinach, chicken in batter, delicate puree were especially good... Polite waiters and in the buffet were ready to help. The performance was charming, cheerful, bright! The most important thing is the festive atmosphere that reigned in the hall! A funny plot and very professional acting, excellent voices and excellent music. I would like to wish for something, but there is nothing! Everything was perfect! I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart everyone who gave us this holiday!!!

It was an amazing experience. The food was very good lots of variety. The dessert was fantastic, super delicious. There are lots of different drinks to try, such as a peach Moscow mule and their teas and coffee's. It was absolutely gorgeous inside and outside as well. It was super well ran, and the process was super easy. I absolutely loved the show it was so much fun. There are lots of great little jokes and fun things to laugh at. And to top it off, the staff was amazing, our waitress Alexis and her assistant were so kind and caring. And extremely attentive, too. Will definitely have to come back and see something new. Overall, it was an amazing experience and extremely greatful I got to participate.

First time in. Cash money looked super beautiful! Door open at 1800 hrs. Place was packed. Tom was our waiter. He was excellent. Salad was great. Dressing was even better. Food was good. Nice selection. Good drink pours. Nice desert. And then we have the Jersey boys! Excellent show. Will I return. Yes.

I was so very pleasantly surprised, I'd consider this a bit of a hidden gem. Now, I didn't like the show I was there to see, but that's neither here nor there. For a somewhat hidden away and not highly advertised place in a suburb, this was way better than I expected! The settings were nice- it seems they recently refurbished a lot of their things. It really did feel you were at a quality place. The salads were good, and with quite good dressings- I suggest mixing them for your own combination, I found this delicious. The staff was attentive. The food was just so much better than I had imagined, very impressive for food served on a buffet. I couldn't get enough of the fried fish, it really was just excellent. Tended, flaky, flavorful- they definitely know how to produce quality food in large quantities, and that's not always easy. These days, I hear "buffet" and tend to immediately expect less of the quality of the food- that wasn't the case here. I tried a little of almost everything on the buffet and didn't find anything I didn't like. I also had crème brûlée for dessert- it really was nice to go into intermission and have a sweet treat. [You do pay extra for dessert.] Honestly, I've seen and disliked the play that's on, but if someone invited me.... I'd go back just for the food. It's definitely an older crowd there- if management sees this, y'all have to start advertising to late 20s-early 40s. It feels like there's a ton of people totally missing out. We're over our club days and want things to do that involve good food.

Updating my review to again let people know what a gem this KC place is. We saw Jim O'heir in Nobody's Perfect, which was very entertaining. The service is excellent and runs like a well-oiled machine. The ambiance and seating is cozy. The bathrooms are well kept. The food, I still have to say, needs a little improvement if one wants to eat healthy or has a health condition. The starter salad was good, however the main buffet has much fried food. I don't eat beef or pork and the other protein options were battered & fried chicken or battered & fried fish. Bummer. The vegetables were nicely prepared so I filled my plate with these. If you like beef and/or pork there were a couple of nicely prepared options. The beverage selections are ample with a nice choice of wine. The desserts are extra and looked delicious. Again, what a gem here in KC.

This is one of the best bargains for food, drink & entertainment in KC. I believe any seat is a good seat . It always proves to be a very fun evening !

We have season tickets and are always impressed with the delicious food choices, the serving staff and the yummy desserts never disappoint! We shared the chocolate chip sundae and the ice cream was sweet and the cookies were also good. Oh and by the way the show, Alone Together was hilarious!

Shows are fun and it's fairly nice inside with plenty of room and every seat is pretty good. Food is just average at best. Service is good as well. Had to go 3 stars since the food is just not there.

Outstanding event every time i go. The meal is buffet, get as much as you want many times its open. The servers will bring you bread basket to your table, salad & drinks if you wish to have any. There is always a feature drink to the theme of the event. You can order your dessert before the play begins to have it arrive at half time. Every seat is great. This past time i brought my 82yr mom she likes to seat about mid way, which is row 9 table C area. Check the map when ordering. It's a great gift certificate gift to give. Darn, no pictures this time. Check the website.

Lovely date night! Yes, it's a little expensive, but it makes for a very fun and unique night. The service was GREAT! Tons of friendly help at New Theatre. Also - the acting! We LOVED the murder mystery show. They did such a great job. These actors clearly love their work! We definitely brought the average age in attendance down a few notches. Lol. But we still really enjoyed it. **BONUS TIP** - if you have a night free, you can head over to New Theater right before the show starts (7:30 start time in the evenings I believe?), and get in for a super discounted price (without dinner included). Something around $25/pp. But you can still opt to purchase dessert and drinks if you'd like!

Went here once for dinner and a show. It was very entertaining and the food was delicious. It is served buffet style, but there is wait staff for drinks. I highly recommend if you are looking for someone to take visitors.

We always have a wonderful time. The shows are awesome and the food is terrific. The atmosphere makes you feel like you're having a special evening. I always bring out-of-town guest to the New Theatre & Restaurant.

Great entertainment venue with a dinner buffet that will satisfy nearly every taste. A great value--there are specials that take the cost down to $40 per person. Worth a try if you've wanted to enjoy theater.

The shows are fantastic and the food, although repetitive, is also very good. The disappointing aspect is that the chairs are in disrepair and they've tried to remedy this with ill fitting/lopsided seat cushions.

We arrived early in hopes of getting a close parking spot as my mom doesn't do well walking long distances. Mission was accomplished as we found a spot almost directly in front of the door. I did 4 stars because the access into the building wasn't super friendly for a person not in a wheel chair but walking with a cane, etc. The venue set up was great. There was a lounge right inside that held about 20 people while waiting on the doors to open. This was certainly appreciated as the heat has been a little on the hot side this past couple of weeks. Entry into our seats went smoothly, and I would say it was very easy to find our reserved spot. Andres was a wonderful server. He was not only attentive but made sure to give us the breakdown on how the buffet worked, what time it opened, and what happened at intermission. I was surprisingly pleased with both the food selection, food quality, and the flavor. And those glazed carrots couldn't have been more tender and sweet. My compliments to the chef. Moving on to the main attraction. The show Dreamgirls was outstanding. I absolutely loved the performer who played Effie and Jimmy. The singing talent displayed throughout was unmatched. I would definitely go again. Please check it out while it's here. You will not be disappointed !!

Great place for dinner and a show. Food is always great. Staffs is friendly and provide great service to their guests. Ambiance is business casual. It used to be that men had to wear a jacket to get in. These days, it's more relaxed in dress code. Plenty of parking. Not a bad seat in the house.

They execute a flawless experience. The show was world-class, I'll be back before it closes. The cast is from across the country. When you arrive, there is a card welcoming you with your name on it. The buffet offers a wide variety of options, with plenty of veggies, meat, fish, bread, etc.... The service is top notch with a head server ( Tony is Awesome) and back server. Deserts are delicious and I loved that they brought me a full pot of coffee to enjoy before the first act.

Hey Everyone, Hadn't been to NTR since before the pandemic. I returned to see Dreamgirls and it didn't disappoint. The food is still great although there seems to have been a tweaking of their famous 'glazed carrots'. Didn't have the glaze or taste of the fabulousness that I remember, but still delicious & satisfying! The quality and variety of food continues to hold strong as well as the superb service and ambiance. It was a very pleasant experience. The many theatre goers were warm and friendly except for one rude man that wanted to be ugly and salty because he had difficulty getting to the bread station. You know it's always one that attempts to rain on your parade, but Thanks be to GOD I had my umbrella honey and his ignorant behavior did not mess up my evening. All in all my time spent there was enjoyed with wonderful company and incredible entertainment. Hats off to New Theatre for continuing the legacy of excellence at its finest!

This place totally ROCKS-- especially when they do musicals! And the food is ALWAYS GOURMET & DELICIOUS!

This venue is tucked away from the main streets and there is a huge parking lot. I stopped by not to see a show but to get a gift card for my sister. The entrance area was clean. There was no wait, and I was able to get to the ticket area right away. Customer service was great. the lady that helped me was patient and she answered all my questions. I let her know the tickets I was buying was a gift and she put them in a pretty red box. I've heard nothing but great things about this place and I really want to see a performance here and I will keep it in mind next time I am in town.

I escorted a group of 25 senior adults to a matinee performance of the mystery comedy thriller, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN on January 31, 2024. The group sales department is so easy to work with, and makes my job run so smoothly. The food at the New Theatre and Restaurant is always good and they get us through the buffet lines in record time. The seating for the show is excellent, and we always have a wonderful view of the stage! The food from the buffet is always good and plentiful, and my senior adults always enjoy the variety of selection. We have seen many productions at the New Theatre, and I've always been very pleased with what we have seen. I plan to bring groups for all of the future performances that the New Theatre has this season! If you are a group tour leader, and are looking for a good value for your dollar this is the place!

Best night out experience in the KC Metro. Great shows and buffet food is excellent. Wait persons are friendly and helpful. Great price for dinner and live theatre!

We saw "Newsies" last night & it might just be the best show we have seen at NTR! Excellent music, dancing, singing, acting & casting! The food & service were awesome! We had a great time celebrating 38 years of marriage!

This place is awesome!! Where else you going to get a great meal and an amazing show for a date night? I love this concept. Food is good I like the buffet concept but it is a tad difficult for the traffic and flow with the narrow stairs and isles. However, people figure it out and most are thoughtful of helping those who need it. Our waiter Robert was awesome we needed nothing as he was so attentive. Our show we saw was the Hank Williams show and the songs were great and loved the plot. We need to look into season tickets!

The service was amazing. The food was good, not great. I really didn't like having to go through a buffet to get my main course. The venue is very nice and modern. I'm still trying to decide what I thought of the electronic background of the stage. It is different, that's for sure. The cast was SPECTACULAR! The musical was good for the most part. The finale was lacking, and the music was not memorable.

"Newsies" is a super musical showing now. As always the food is great, too. The dancing is great, the singing, also. All of the singers are good, but Eric William Geil (Jack Kelly) and Julie Pope (Katherine Plummer) are outstanding!!!

RUDE FRONT STAFF!!!!! My husband witnessed a poor couple talking to the blonde woman in the box office. The man had broken his leg since they originally bought their tickets, and they didn't realize that their seats required climbing several sets of stairs. He said he couldn't put any weight on his broken foot at all and their seats required climbing several sets of stairs (the show was sold out). This couple tried explaining what had happened but the lady behind the ticket window was extremely rude to them, so much that the husband had to take over the conversation and tell the woman that he didn't appreciate her rolling her eyes at him!!!!!!!!! Then she laughed at them and said they should have realized there would be stairs!!! What a rude and unsympathetic way to treat your customers. I bet those poor people will never be back and I don't blame them!

I haven't been here in decades! I believe it had to be in the 90s or early 2000s. I came to see Noises Off. A great performance, by the way. The upgrades they've made since then are absolutely stunning! The lighting is beautiful. I'm upset I didn't know about the lounge ahead of time. I would've come earlier to experience more than just taking pics in there. I know better for next time. The food is buffet style, but not a huge hassle. There are 4 lines on each side, which have the exact food, so there is no need to cross over to see what's on the other side. This setup is very efficient. The food tasted very well. Someone in the kitchen knew exactly what they were doing. Nothing was bland and was seasoned to perfection. The food timing is perfect. The buffet was open an hour before showtime. Dessert is distributed during intermission. My friend and I came to see Dreamgirls. Usually, there aren't many performances that draw people of color out, but this one did. I truly hope there are plans for more culture friendly projects to broaden the audience reach. The performance was good, though it wasn't what I expected. I thought there would be power house vocals. They didn't quite reach that status, but good nonetheless. Overall, it was a great experience. If there are more projects offered to my liking, I will definitely be back! The Hubby and I went here on a date last week. This place tends to skew older but we absolutely had a blast. The Elvis impersonator was hilarious and really put on a great show. The backup singers were phenomenal. The band was great! Now let's get back to the important thing... the food. The buffet style food was delicious. The service was outstanding. Michael our server explained everything to us and really made us feel welcomed. The whole staff did a really great job working as a team. Make sure you arrive with plenty of time. Once you get seated they will take your drink order and bring out your salad. The buffet is open for an hour. There are 4 lines to the buffet and everything is very well organized. Desserts and drinks are extra. Dessert's are brought during intermission and that's usually when you settle the checks. I paid for an added package that included a ballon and card since we we're celebrating an anniversary. They ask you to come business casual dressed. Overall we can't wait to go back to see another show.

The play was excellent! Donny Most was not there but Victor was so good in the role that Donny was not missed! Story was very good, acting even better! Food was great as always, had good server, Rocco! Very nice evening in wonderful venue!

I love the new theater and restaurant.... I wish there wasn't a wait list for the purple section or I would have season tickets, row 4 seat 7 and 8.... The show was superb, the service was exquisite, and the food was out of this world,.. and oh yes don't forget the dessert, over the top...

New Theatre is an absolute must-do! Catch Me If You Can starring Jimmy O'Heir was one of the best shows I've seen, and in such a beautiful theatre too. We were in the very front row on the left side of the stage, which I thought might be too close, but I actually preferred it to be right next to the actors. About 1 hour before the show, the buffet opens (beware the lines are pretty long) since everyone is grabbing food at the same time. I was very very surprised at the quality of food. There were a decent amount of selections and I loved everything that I tried. The Penne Pasta, Fried Chicken, Fried Basa, and Prime Rib were my favorites. The table set up is fancy dining, with house salads and cutlery there when you arrive. We also paid extra for dessert which is brought out during intermission--- the Chocolate Cobbler was huge and super sweet. Highly recommend a visit to New Theatre if you see a show that you'd like!

ENOUGH with Elvis and The Dream Quartet shows! Bring in some more timely shows. People 55 and under do not share your never-ending nostalgia shows. Food is great, hardly a bad seat in the house. Best wishes.

The Shows are extraordinary. The food is always great and desert is the best. I love The Newsies, it was so much fun and fabulous singers and dancers. I felt like I was at a Broadway show. The staff are the best and very helpful. Service and on time and they are always smiling.

It's been a few years (like 18yrs-Holy smokes, Is that possible?!) since I've visited this place. I don't remember anything of my prior visit, other than I loved it and wanted to return. Finally an afternoon date night produced the perfect opportunity. The theater is beautiful! Really, it was a lovely visual with the lights and the layout. The service was excellent. Adrian took great care of us and was so personable. We had amazing seats on the second row center, but as I looked around, I'm not really sure there would be a bad seat in the house. The food was surprisingly delicious. I am not a buffet fan, nor would I ever search one out, so I wasn't expecting much. Boy was I wrong, yum!! Great options all tasting fabulous. We ordered drinks and dessert at an additional charge to the ticket price, but well worth it in the end. Chocolate cake!!! I'm drooling thinking of it again. The show itself was entertaining. The actors did a wonderful job in their roles. I love the theater. Overall, this is such a great deal for dinner and a show. Fabulous for something different and fun for date night. (Children under 7 not allowed)

I have lived in KC for almost 30 years and I have NEVER visited this place until this year. Now that I know how fun it us, we will definitely be back sooner rather than later. The show was so much fun and the food was legitimately tasty (especially for a buffet feeding this many people at once) - I was concerned about the timing but they are super efficient here. Table service was prompt and attentive. Our group of six had a blast (even the teenagers in tow)!

Well, the food was good but the main star who we were expecting paid money to see was not appearing. We didn't know that. There was no notification in advance. There was a sandwich board when we went in saying there were changes in the cast, but we didn't know what part he was supposed to be paying. I guess I assumed they would have said something when I got my tickets at will-call.

We are in the habit of gifting "experiences" as holiday gifts and decided to take my in-laws to the New Theatre to see "Come Blow Your Horn". I have never been to the New Theatre and was blown away by what a fun experience it is, especially with the parents. They absolutely loved seeing Hal Linden and Sally Struthers. The show was hilarious and it was thrilling to see a live performance with a packed audience. Our service was top notch, the seating was comfortable and perfect for a family member who has need of very few steps and stairs, and the food and drinks were much better than I anticipated. I'm not usually one to enjoy a large buffet but there were many options and the food was actually quite good. This is just such a fun thing to do together and the joy can be felt throughout the entire venue. It can feel a bit crowded when you're up and around but everyone is friendly and gracious so it's not much of an issue. Very pleased with our gift decision and so were my in-laws!

What a great experience! The buffet is 10/10. Food was excellent quality and so many options that everyone would find something. The talent on the stage is enormous and the audience is engaged. Also, I have say in many sections, and have yet to find a bad seat in the building. Overall, it's a great date night experience!

The food was as good as ever! This is only the second time in 14 years as season ticket holders that we have left during intermission. The volumn was so high it blasted us out!! It was so high we neither could discern the words to songs. We hope this will not be an issue going forward. If it is, we will discontinue our season membership.

We love New Theatre, and have been going for many years. We saw Squabbles yesterday, and it's one of the best shows we've seen so far! The cast was excellent, and the laughs were many! The food is always great, and we'll continue going as long as possible.

Musical was excellent, food pretty much as always, service was great. Only downside was the table chairs-seats, pretty much worn out.

We are season ticket holders and always look forward to our evening at the New Theatre. I've read several reviews indicating that it is difficult for older people with walkers to navigate to their tables. If that is a concern, please call ahead and alert the staff so they can assist you or find a more accessible table for you. I have found all the staff at the New Theatre to be very helpful and kind. They want your experience to be top-notch. Donny Most performed in Squabbles. The show was a delight. Donny's "still got it!" The supporting cast was excellent! We loved it! The food is always delicious! We look forward to having one of their decadent desserts! It is fun to see a diverse crowd, some casually dressed, and some dressed up, of all ages, enjoying the exceptionally talented, live entertainment!

Actors are so great! Shows are always so enjoyable! Food is great too but one suggestion--don't put bread baskets on table unless the party wants it. So much gets wasted. Same with salad dressings--ask before giving all 3?! And lastly, some of those chairs need some attention--they are getting squeaky! Overall, love the New Theatre though!

My boyfriend took me here to begin my birthday weekend. Being a former theater nerd, I don't know how I had never been to this little gem! I had an amazing time! Food, service, and production were wonderful. We went to see Always A Bridesmaid starring Morgan Fairchild. Upon arrival there is a birthday card on the table with a balloon wishing me a happy birthday, signed by the cast. We sat at the very top of the theater, it is more quiet and I thought it was romantic. I later learned this was requested by my boyfriend and I loved that they found something to meet his request. Our waiter's name was Andres. He was very polite and accommodating but, all of the waiters and staff had hands on deck. I felt like everyone was our waiter. We were asked several times how things were going. The spinach gratin, fried basa, cheese pasta, and chocolate cobbler were my faves. I couldn't stop eating!!! The warm bread served with salad was also delicious. I would definitely go back!

The comedy Squabbles with Donny Most & cast was hilarious! The food was delicious! The chocolate cobbler dessert was amazing, as usual! The staff is great! I have been to New Theatre multiple times and they do not disappoint! If you are looking for outstanding dinner theatre, you have to go!
