Mensch’s Deli Is Open in Suburban Chicago | Eater Chicago

"I observed that New York Bagel & Bialy is both listed as a contender in nearby Skokie and the source of the bagels served at Mensch’s, making it a local supplier and point of comparison." - Naomi Waxman

Today was my first time in this shop it will not be the last. The workers first off were very nice and helped me figure out what to get. I made my own pastrami sandwich on an everything bagel, and mannnnn that was one of the best pastramis I’ve ever tasted. I can’t wait to go back. Legit demolished this in the car. 🚙

These bagels are SO.. much better than anything you can get at any of the grocery stores around here: Whole Foods, Jewels, Dominics, Costco,, etc. Super when fresh but they also last a long time in the freezer, ready to reheat. Sometimes a little bit tight on parking here.

Only take cash. The bagels are really good. Worth going out of your way to eat here. I think it was better than some bagels I had in New York. There's no dining space. Fresh cream cheeses are in large tubs and single ones are Philadelphia . They also have good pastries

Absolute gem. Delicious, crazy cheap. Great bagels, donuts melt in your mouth. Mostly take out.

Love everything about this place, even the confusing line once you enter. It goes counter-clockwise from the door to the coolers in the left and then up to the counter, in case you are pre-planning your menu. Be ready to wait a little if you go at busy times, but so worth it!

I recently visited this spot and tried the Nova Lox Bagel. While the bagel itself was fresh and well-toasted, the salmon was a letdown. Nova lox is typically known for being less salty than regular smoked salmon, but in this case, it was overly salty and overwhelmed the other flavors. The toppings, like cream cheese, capers, and onions, were well-balanced, but the saltiness of the salmon really detracted from the overall experience. I also decided to try the apricot cookie, but that turned out to be a mistake. I was surprised to learn it cost nearly $5—far more than I expected for a single cookie. Unfortunately, the taste was disappointing; it was so unpalatable that I couldn’t even finish it. The texture was dense and off-putting, and the apricot flavor was barely there. It felt like a waste of money, and I left feeling dissatisfied. The prices were reasonable for the bagel, but the quality didn’t fully match my expectations. As for the cookie, it was overpriced and not worth trying again. Overall, a mixed experience—there’s potential, but the execution fell short.

Fresh and delicious food. Got 4 bagels and an 8oz of cream cheese for less than $10. If you’re in the area, give it a try!

Really good bagels. They have them nice and warm even the cream cheese. Tried the meat sandwich and it was delicious, juicy and flavorful. A but pricey but that’s every where now. And they only take cash.
