The New York City Ballet enjoys a reputation for excellence, reinforced by ticket prices that suggest one is purchasing not merely a seat, but civilisation itself. What follows, predictably, is something closer to a well-funded free-for-all. Winter coats of heroic proportions are allowed into the auditorium, blocking aisles and emergency exits, despite a cloakroom that appears to exist largely for decorative purposes. Latecomers are then ushered in while the orchestra is already playing — not as a brief lapse, but as a recurring feature, rather like an unscheduled second cast. Phones glow, plastic-wrapped snacks crackle, munching of crisps clearly audible and Tchaikovsky competes gamely with a mid-row picnic…with no intervention. The interval brings queues of Olympic ambition, followed by the inevitable late returns and the same unwelcome results. Pre-ordering refreshments for the interval— apparently attempted only by our family despite being the obvious cure. The queue for the ladies’ toilets is not a mystery of crowd psychology, but of arithmetic - provide more! All credit to the orchestra, who played beautifully, and to the dancers, whose performance was truly excellent. Their discipline, commitment and artistry were evident throughout. Sadly, the combination of audience behaviour and organisational distractions proved so persistent that it became difficult to fully absorb and enjoy the quality of what was happening on stage. Overall: Prestige, it seems, has replaced stewardship. Two stars out of five.

Beautiful place. Highly professional athletes. I just wished we did not have to print tickets (in 2025!) + they had not allowed people who are super late to get in making a lot of noice and flashing us with their phones.

The All Ravel evening at New York City Ballet was pure poetry in motion. Each piece felt like a living painting—elegant, hypnotic, and emotionally rich. Probably NYCB is OK, but definitely not matinees for kids. Please don’t make the mistake of going there expecting it to have anything to do with a regular performance. What we saw felt more like a ballet school presentation rather than a full professional show, with students from the ballet school on stage. The price was quite regular though:)

Saw somebody’s interesting rendition of “The Nutcracker” at David H. Koch Theater on 12/17/2024. I’d hoped to see more actual ballet and less tomfoolery. The performance fell short of my expectations; I believe the Chamberlain School of Ballet in Plano, TX puts on a far better version of The Nutcracker (child performers) with classic ballet and beautiful costumes. I expected more from NYC Ballet … that’s all.

Their performances are so beautiful and definitely worth seeing. They feature both traditional ballets such as Swan Lake and the seasonal favorite the Nutcracker as well as new works by contemporary choreographers, so there is something for everyone. The David H Koch Theater is very nice as well, so you will have a beautiful space to enjoy your performance. Go see the ballet!

So... veteran of hundreds of Nutcracker performances. My favorite ballerina told me that the individual audience member is more important than any reviewer or critic, so I am not afraid to give my opinion. This Balanchine's Nutcracker was a disappointment. Here's what I loved: Spanish, Merlitons, Mother Ginger, and the Pas De Deux (the only one!) with prince and sugarplum, and in general the orchestra. Now here's what was not to my liking: first, the 4th tier was never below 80 degrees, no ventilation. I don't like smelling my neighbors. Second, who gave you permission to change Tchaikovsky's score? Moving the Sugarplum Fairy dance is weird enough but there were sections completely changed. And no chimes to start the battle! But the worst: when music is playing, someone should be dancing. The very beginning, when we should be introduced to the Drosselmeier, was curtains down! Snow started with a whole sequence of a bed moving around the stage, and no Snow Queen! She is as important as Sugarplum. Party scene, where to start? Nobody should be sitting on the ground that long. only during the (missing) puppet show. No Clara solo. Harlequin and Columbine is a pas de deux. Party and Battle - almost no dancing except for the grand waltz. What else? Clara didn't dance much and was missing a shoe! Arabian is also a pas de deux and supposed to be sensual. Dancer was great but she is not supposed to be jumping around. I keep an open mind when they advertise it's different, like Joffrey's Chicago performance where it's tied into the world's fair. I was expecting a very traditional Nutcracker with the correct score.

The Nutcracker was absolutely amazing! Seeing this in person was a must do! The venue was amazing and very organized. The bathroom line was terrible. The seats C107 & C108 were the best in house if you ask me. Definitely do this if you come to NYC.

Came here to see the NYCB a few times. And this time was absolutely amazing. I ended up seeing the Nutcracker and it was fantastic! At the David H Koch Theater, we saw the New York City Ballet perform George Balanchine's The Nutcracker. Of course I have seen a performance or two of The Nutcracker over the years, but seeing The Nutcracker, in New York, at Christmas, is a pretty amazing experience -- beautiful costumes, talented dancers, and the classic music. I saw the nutcracker during Christmas week and the show was as magical as I expected! The costumes were beautiful and the dancing was out of this world, I recommend everyone to see atl east once in their life time. As for the Lincoln center, there ought to be some training for the staff. The ushers were yelling at people during the performance for sitting in the wrong seats, and they looked like children at that! It was very uncalled for and distracting. One of them also went on for a long time and even while the performance was starting back up again, just very unpleasant. There also is not a great bar, which was pretty surprising, only beer wine wine and light refreshments. Worth bringing your own bottle of water. Other then that a marvelous show!

Nothing says Christmas in New York quite like the New York City Ballet's Nutcracker. All the dancers were splendid but Isabella LaFreniere as the Sugar Plum Fairy & Aarón Sanz as her Cavalier were brilliantly divine. The mice--looking more like rats--were suitably terrifying. The Candy Canes, and especially David Gabriel, were astonishingly athletic. Thank you, George Balanchine.

Every time I come here, I'm reminded of why I love NYC. As the home of Balanchine, NYCB has good programming, and the current cast of dancers is fantastic. Now they have Alexei Ratmansky in the fold, a massive boon to the company. The NYCB orchestra is also excellent. I prefer the State theater to the Met. Whereas the Met has a more glamorous lobby, I love the State Theater's more understated, cool modernist aesthetic; it's more intimate, and it also has generally better sight lines than the Met.

I went and saw the Copland Dance Episodes at the New York Ballet. We got the $30 under 30 tickets. We were far up/back in the audience, but I actually preferred it because we got to see the entire company dance. I feel like you would miss some of the choreo that happens in the back if you were on the floor. It's such an amazing theatre. The lobby is great too with a cool interactive chandelier display. Had a great time at my first NYC Ballet performance!

Went to NYCB with my mother, to see Swan Lake. They're not messing around...you have to show a photo ID and proof of vaccination before you are allowed into the building, and masks are required, too, This is a beautiful space. Seats are comfortable and slightly angled. We sat in the orchestra. Ushers were pleasant and helpful. The bar has been reopened, after being closed for quite a long time. Balanchine's Swan Lake is slightly truncated, but still a wonderful performance. The music (Tchaikovsky) was lovely. Both the Mommy and I dozed off during the first performance, which was dancers in leotards leaping about the stage, to a somewhat tinkly score, but we did not nap at all during Swan Lake. Photographs are not permitted during the performance, just during curtain calls.

The NYCB offers a $30 under 30 deal where individuals under 30 years of age can snag $30 tickets to select shows. I think it's a great deal if you can get good seats, usually in the third or fourth ring. I went to see swan lake which I believe is one of their more popular shows and got rush tickets same day at the box office. I was pretty impressed with the seats, I don't think there is truly any bad seat in the theater since they are all stacked pretty well. I would recommend going to the box office because the process to get verified for $30 under 30 is very tedious online and the website for selecting seating & tickets hardly works.

We just saw the 2023 New York City Ballet Nutcracker performance at the David Koch Theater. What a huge letdown that was, despite of the raving reviews from the art critics. For a ticket price of $214 per person, I was expecting to see a performance by the renowned NYC Ballet. Instead, the entire production was made up mostly by amateur young students of local ballet school dressed in fancy costumes, and simple stage backdrops with no frills. The production has casted a shadow on the NYCB's reputation as an elite ballet company. What a waste of $650!!!

Saw Romeo and Juliet tonight. Started at 7:30pm sharp and ended at 10pm, with a 30-minute intermission starting at 8:30pm. It was very pretty and oddly relaxing, a meditation of sorts. I enjoyed the dancing, but it was made up of the same three moves, so I wasn't blown away. The highlight was all the young performers; how are they so coordinated? The Koch theater is gorgeous with a cool art display in the middle, but the line for the bathrooms were so long that I waited for the majority of the intermission. The ushers were chill, so much so that they didn't notice when my friend and I moved from the balcony to one of the front rows. But I actually very much enjoyed the balcony seats, so I suggest them if that's what you're going to buy.

"Founded by George Balanchine, this dance company performs to a range of classical & modern music." - (source NYC Ballet's website) "The Nutcracker" is my first and only ballet performance I have seen and find it absolutely splendid and grandeur for quality, costume, set design, choreography, dance technique, particularly Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's masterpiece musical score. NYC Ballet performs year-round in David H Koch Theater (formerly New York State Theater). I am enamored with Act II of Sugar Plum Fairy and Nutcracker Prince's dance of such graceful movements, elegant steps and both synchronized and well coordinated and The Waltz of the Snowflakes. The children dancers are well trained and choreographed. I absolutely LOVE performance arts and live events as it is culturally enriching and mentally permitted me to temporary be in another world than the reality world I dreadfully and laboriously live. I remember watching it on TV in my childhood in the 1980's on PBS Thirteen TV station and was immediately enamored with Tchaikovsky's music score. "The Nutcracker" is a worthy must see performance as it is a traditional holiday classic ballet. There is a NYC street named "George Balanchine Way" at West 63rd Street after the founder George Balanchine.

The New York City Ballet was one of a kind. I attended the ballet on a particular night. I scored $30 tickets during the ballet's art series night: https://www.nycballet.com/artseries/. A ballet, art installation (the balloons are so dope) and a dance party with free beer was a great way to spend a Friday night. Focusing on the dancers: I'll be honest, I was surprised this company was so diverse. Of course, there was a fair share of lily-white women, but all ethnicities and colors represented. That made for a beautiful experience. There were three acts and two intermissions. As a person not well-versed in ballet, it was a fantastic experience. I quickly picked up on the themes and was amazed by the dancing, the music (the live orchestra was everything), the costume and the dancers, themselves. There's something to be said about people that look like they thoroughly enjoy their jobs. The art installation featured so many biodegradable balloons that converged in the main lobby of the David H. Koch Theater. It was a spectacular sight to see by the Jihan Zencirli, a Turkish American visual artist. Lastly, the party was a delight. A nice mix of the 90s, early 2000s and today. I would have been more than satisfied with just the ballet, but the entire experience was notable.

I attended Sleeping Beauty on February 18, 2023 - the matinee. It was magical. The staging and the set were amazing, the choreography was impressive (ironically the Balanchine-choreography for the "garland" dance was lovely, but I think not my favorite set of dances). Costumes were spectacular. And the dancing...wow this is an amazing company! I was transfixed. Didn't hurt that I had incredible front row seats. We could see the orchestra, which lent an unexpectedly delightful aspect to the experience. They were amazing and the conductor was fascinating to watch. Truly an all-around amazing experience that was worth every penny!

On Sat Nov 30th I Enjoyed a matinee at the NYC Ballet to see The Nutcracker! This was my first time without my Dad so this was a happy / somber experience going alone. The performances were great! I just felt like they were holding back maybe it was because it was a matinee, so I wondered if I came to the eight o'clock show would it have made a difference? This review was for the NYC Ballet on Saturday October 6th, 2018. It was my first time and I loved it. We sat 3rd ring seat A19 - that's front row, third story and a little off center, however we saw perfectly. If we were in same seats but second tier I think it would have been better for my mother because she could see better. As for the show: this is coming from a late 20 female point of view who does not practice ballet but appreciates the art of it... The four shows were the exchange (New Neenan), in Vento, Judah (New Reisen) and The Runaway (New Abraham). The exchange is what you think of when 'ballet' comes to mind. Elegant and beautiful dancing to classical music (a little too slow for my pace) In Vento had a little more emotion, it was good. Judah was full of vibrant colored costumes and the dancing was more energetic. Enjoyed it. But The Runaway...Kyle Abraham is undoubtedly my favorite choreographer of this show. The music was modern and fun (Kanye...like what! Yess) - the costumes were funky, the dancing was sassy but still graceful. Almost everyone sitting on the edge of their seats leaning forward. It was a must see and I hope there are more like this to come!

I've been away for too long. Used to know all the dancers in the Co. New faces, new generation. I attended a performance of Sleeping Beauty last Sunday. The production is beautiful, faithful to Petipa. Full of dancing children. The audience was full of Little Ballerinas and Princes. All well behaved. They were laughing at the Second Act fairy Tell characters Puss in Boots & Red Riding Hood. The main roles were excellently danced by Megan Fairchild & Joaquín DeLuz( he brought the house down with his variation). She was delightful as Aurora and has a commanding technique as well. During intermission there was a talk answering audience question and showcase of costumes outside the seating area. An artist display, Santtu Mostonen's Metarmorphosis digital on the 1st Floor Promemade was a pleasant addition. I will come more often to see the company

Love love love! The New York City Ballet is everything I imagined it to be and more! We saw the Nutcracker on December 26. I was so pleasantly surprised that NYCB would play the Nutcracker past Christmas - most other dance companies stop playing first week of December (DC, San Diego for example). As this schedule often conflicts with school finals, I often had to pass up the opportunity to join in on the holiday festivities. I have never been so wowed at the costumes. We were seated on the fourth ring and even there, we could marvel at the sparkling, gliding, cloud-like costumes on stage. The children dancers were so impressive and in sync - they added to the magic of the production. I think Balanchine's choreography of the pas de deux was my favorite. The Christmas Tree was so incredulous that my friend and I engaged in an active debate as to the mechanics of the Christmas tree on our way home and settled on magic as the only explanation, ha! The venue is quite lovely as well. There is a subway stop right outside so you only have to brave the winter night for 2 minutes. I think this is one of the quintessential New York holiday experiences you should have, whether it is with friends or family!

This was my first experience at the ballet, and I loved it! The performance took place at the David H. Koch Theatre at Lincoln Center. The snacks are priced as you would expect at any theatre event. Be advised that you can only bring water into the actual theatre so give yourself time to arrive and have a pre-show snack if necessary. I have attended many live performances and being 5'8" and taller legroom is extremely important. Lol. These rows were perfect. Most people could pass by without me even having to turn legs sideways. Now on to the actual performance... The ballerinas were exquisite! They were light on their feet. Showed fantastic balance and control of their bodies. I was in awe. As soon as the first performance began the audience was silent. You could hear a pin drop! Such respect for the art form and the experience! I would love to see the American Ballet Theatre again. It was also great to see Misty Copeland perform! Experience the ballet at least once!

My family is so happy to be back at the ballet after being away due to COVID-19. What can you say about the best ballet in the world? My family saw Swan Lake two weeks ago. It was just wonderful. We returned to the ballet this past weekend. Our favorite part of the show was Slaughter On Tenth Avenue (Richard Rodgers.) FYI, the COVID protocols were well-enforced: masks, proof of vaccination, and photo ID. One more reason why we love it at the ballet.

I'm sure the New York City Ballet is incredible, but when I came to the Koch Center to see The Nutcracker, I was thoroughly disappointed. Only afterwards, after thinking about it, did it make sense. It was a fantastic show for children, but anyone with an appreciation for ballet might not enjoy it as much. My usual dining companion and I both fell asleep in the first half multiple times. There was essentially no ballet. It was all story-telling, and even that could've been cut shorter or had more elements so it would've been more interesting. Even the second half pretty much had only 30% ballet and 50% gimmick and 20% storytelling. I was really only impressed with the Sugar Plum Fairy (green) the centerpiece of The Waltz of Flowers (pink). Overall very disappointing. It was cute but that was basically it. The only real technical parts comprise maybe 5 minutes of the entire production.

Because NYC Ballet was offering $30 rush tickets for people under 30 years of age and a guest of any age, I decided to bring my less than 30 year old guest (the theatre checks ID) and procure two tickets for Sleeping Beauty. Although I enjoy ballet tremendously, especially the classics, I felt the full-length performance of SB was a bit long even for me. If my vision was correct, Princess Aurora seemed wobbly at times. Even my less than 30 year old guest said, "I'm glad I saw it, but it felt like the dancers were doing the same thing, but in different costumes." During the wedding scene of Princess Aurora and Prince Désiré, we finally saw some variation when the fairy-tale characters (guests) danced at the wedding. Playing the music of Tchaikovsky, the orchestra performed beautifully and helped my enjoyment of the ballet. For $30, we were seated in the 4th ring which sounds far away (and it is), but there didn't appear to be a bad seat in the house in this gorgeous theatre. Normally, the price is $60. For a night out, this was a great deal. Just make sure you and your guests enjoy ballet.

Best dance company in New York, maybe the world?? Love that they perform very classical Balanchine; I personally am a Robbins gal so tend to go to those performances the most. I enjoy mixed-bill performances where we get a taste of old and new. Personally wish they did fewer Peck ballets.

Had an amazing night at the opening of Paul Taylor's American Modern Dance production on March 15, 2016. The performance was absolutely astonishing. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. There were even times the entire auditorium was laughing due to the choice of music. I was in row B of the orchestra center stage. This particular auditorium was the David H. Koch Theater, which holds 2,586 seats. Lincoln Center is rich with history, being able to walk around the area was very exciting. The staff was very nice and accommodating. I recommend going out on the balcony for a spectacular view of the courtyard/plaza. Heads up. . . they up-charge everything, (glass of wine: $12.00, chocolate M&M's: $5.00)

2018 Review 79/100 Incredible. There is a reason this company is so well-known. Reviewing for their performance of Swan Lake. My mother and I attended during out last trip to NYC. They hosted a panel with some of the dancers at Julliard prior to the show, which was super cool to attend. And the performance itself was incredible. We very much enjoyed ourselves. I would love to go back and see another performance.

This was my first time watching a professional ballet and let me tell you, I WILL be back! My sister and I watched the Nutcracker here and we had a blast! This is the best place to experience ballet for the first time! Always arrive early on time, if you don't, you might have to wait for a appropriate time to enter, for example on a break, or when they are changing the set! They also have a break in between, and have snacks to purchase and it wash CASH ONLY so make sure you come prepared!

We just saw the Nutcracker performance at Lincoln Center. It was Gad AWFUL! If you enjoy seeing small children that are not in sync traipsing like lead across a stage in recycled costumes-- lose their shoes during the performance and continue dancing with one shoe while the other foot is barefoot -- and then when they go backstage the shoeless child is not even provided a second shoe until the 2nd Act. The adult performers were performing at first level with minimal jumps and very easy choreography-- and yet still manged to trip and fall no less than 3 times-- awful-- save your money

Ballet is such a beautiful art form and sport. If you're 29yrs old and under, you should purchase the rush tickets for the day of the performance. That way you'll save a couple of bucks. From my experience, the rush tickets will get you a seat in the 4th ring. If you're purchasing 2 tickets, you'll most likely be seated to either the left or right side of 4th ring. If you are only purchasing a ticket for yourself, you might get a seat in the center section. Many of the ballets are perfect for kids. There is a lot of story telling going on, and it is very easy to follow. Plus, there is a live orchestra for each ballet show. I just saw A Midsummer Night Dream. The set, choreography, and costumes were very beautiful. I arrived late and the ushers quietly let me since in the back orchestra, row W (my ticket was for 4th ring). Sitting in orchestra was interesting, but I prefer an overhead view. Jewels is fun. Even though it lacks a plot, it is a very enjoyable ballet as there is a large group of ballerina's and danseurs on stage. Plus, there are 2 intermissions, so you'll have more time to stretch out your legs. Swan Lake is a must see. The music and the theatrics are just amazing. The costumes are lovely. You can really feel the emotions being portrayed from each dance sequences. The Nutcracker is a classic. Fun and entertaining for the Christmas season.

Walking up the cascade of steps past the grand fountain where Cher and Nicholas Cage (Moonstruck) turned and greeted each other prior to viewing the opera (La Boheme) that brought tears to Cher's eyes, brought chills to me as my wife and I paused to absorb the moment. Somewhat similar, the relationship between Dr. Coppleius and the doll Coppelia, was brought to life on the great stage of the NYC Ballet. Gazing around the theater, it was apparent that this would be a sold-out performance. Many children with parents in tow sat quietly as if they had been briefed by the special performance they were about to witness. As the conductor's wand made it's way downward, the chanting melody, that is clearly the overture of Coppelia, spread it's magic throughout the audience. During this amazing presentation, colorful and authentic costumes of the Austro-Hungarian province were displayed as dancers swirled, leaped, jumped, and twirled to the music and choreography that is Balanchine and Danilova. Lead dancers, Sterling Hyltin (Swanilda) and Andrew Vedette (Frantz), captivated the audience with their amazing and fascinating feats of dance, enhancing to perfection Leo Delibes's musical score. This performance also consisted of a score of young children whose ballet skills captivated the audience within Acts II and III. All three acts of Coppelia portray non-stop interaction between the musical score, the dancers, and the synopsis. Overall, the performance is a feast for the eyes, ears, and the emotions. Coppelia is a must see for all ages and the NYC Ballet at Lincoln Center provides that, and more so, and will fill your senses long after the curtain has come down.

Opening week of the ballet and we happened to be in NYC. Perfect. It was the most romantic date night. This was our first time at the ballet and Swan Lake was the ideal performance. The story line was funny and sweet. We were lucky enough to purchase tickets directly from the NYC Ballet website because private sellers were charging 2-3x as much for awful seats. We sat in the First Ring and dead center. After viewing the theater seating and reading reviews, we determined that sitting Orchestra may be too low for us. Our POV from the First Ring was exactly what we wanted. The performance itself was amazing. Although the story started slow it picked up after intermission. The dancers were animated and very talented. Come dressed to impress, with enough CASH for snacks & drinks, and a camera to take pics of the beautiful Lincoln Center. Empire Hotel is only a few steps away if you're looking to have drinks after the ballet. There are also a couple restaurants next to the hotel.

We saw the Nutcracker on Christmas Eve to a sold out crowd. The theater is beautiful and they have plenty of bar/drink areas to manage the crowd. Just like RCMH, you can take a picture beforehand with one of the dancers if you wish.

Reason No. 123 why I love NYC: The New York City Ballet. What a paradigm shift from the NYC craziness once you experience the New York City Ballet. The ballet allows your mind to be relaxed and meditate to soothing music from the orchestra. It is amazing how an entire story line can be interpreted through dance, facial expressions and body language without one word being said. All the seats in David Kotch are pretty decent. There are constantly new art exhibits displayed on the main level. Great shows and beautiful building.

A beautiful venue, they always have a selection of programs that are marvelous. As the Christmas season approaches, The Nutcracker is a must see show, to bring kids or a date. The interiors are absolutely fabulous, they have the most stunning ceilings,seating space is more than comfortable and they do have actually side balconies with single separate armchairs. The productions there are always visually impressive as far as sets and choregraphy, all the world famous ballerinas have been performing during all the years since it's creation. If you're in a mood for an elegant evening before or after a Champagne dinner, this place will take your breath away. ..

A friend who came to NYC for the first time asked what are the things she could do at night. I suggested watching the ballet even though I have never been to one but turned out that my friend is a big ballet fan. Somehow not sure what happened, but unknowingly, I bought the tickets for the next day on May 11 instead of May 18, and even splurged on very nice seats at the 4th row. I printed the tickets and tagged it on the board no noticing the wrong date. Hence it was a shock when we found out I got the wrong date when we tried to get seated. The manager tersely rejected our plead and informed us that the ticket was overdue and useless and there's nothing she could do. Imagine the disappointment, my debut to ballet and the highlight of my friend's 5 day trip here, not to mention 300 just got washed down the drain. Not giving up I wrote a letter to "Customer Care" that night, explaining the situation and requesting for NYCB to alter the ending to our encounter and redeem myself for causing such a huge disappointment to my friend. I also called the box office the following day to explain my honest mistake hoping that they can give a any tickets available on that night which is my friend's last night in NYC to no avail, the same reply that they can't help me as the ticket was past due. Then at 2pm, I got an email from Customer Care who informed me that it's not something they usually do but that they are making an exception for me and would place 2 tickets to be picked up that night!!!!! We just can't believe that. That night was my first time watching ballet and I was in awe. The choreography, the music, the movements, such strength and grace, totally blew me away. Especially the finale of Western symphony, it was absolutely wonderful, the color and sight was so captivating and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole show. I would like to take this opportunity to compliment on the Customer Care for its kind gesture. Not only did we get two tickets, we ended up with two very good seats on row K. Thank you thank you NYCB Customer Care, you do CARE about the customer!!!

What a grand establishment.. Came here to see Swan Lake, what an amazing show and the New York City Ballet was such a wonderful venue. I count myself very lucky to have visited. Swan Lake was breathtaking and we were lucky to have been in the presence of principal dancer Veronika Plant, a phenomenal performance. If you are in NYC you MUST attend the NYCB.

It's Valentine's Day, so where do my boo and I go? To the Romeo & Juliet ballet, of course! Tickets were only $29, as advertised in AMNY. We had good seats and I'm glad I've taught the play for so many years...otherwise I wouldn't have fully understood some parts! My boo dozed off for some scenes which is understandable, since we really wanted to hear SOME dialogue! I know, I know...that's not how the ballet rolls. Other than that, the scenery, props, outfits, etc were all beautifully and wonderfully played out.

Saw All Tschaikovsky compilation composed of four combinations. Got there early for the First Position discussion, which was to take place at 7:40pm. Not sure if it was being held in a separate room or not, but there was no discussion in the main theatre. A bit disappointed. I'm only commenting on the dancing and not on the music. The first was Divertimento from Le Baiser de la Fee. It was a fun routine to open with and the dancing was beautifully done and overall was more complicated than some of the other combinations. Pas de Deux was the most impressive and complicated ballet dancing of all combinations. Bal de Couture was the most visually stunning combination. The costumes were designed by Valentino, and it looked like the elaborate and classy designs were deserving of his name. The dancing was not as complicated as the Pas de Deux, but it told the story and complemented the costumes perfectly. Diamonds had a great story and the dancing was amazing by the duos. Beautiful costumes and set design for Diamonds. Nothing bad to say besides possibly missing the First Position discussion. Nice theatre - not too big, not too small. If you are a ballet dancer or enjoy ballet, you will not regret going.

Because of my membership through IDNYC, I was able to see a rehearsal of "La Sylphide" for free. From telling the dancers to gesture bigger to telling them which marks to hit, it was really insightful to see the tweaks the director was making along the way. This particular ballet isn't my favorite, but it was a great experience to see the New York City Ballet for free. The theater is ornate and lovely, but I don't agree that all seats are great for viewing the stage at the David H. Koch Theater. And word to the wise: These seats likely aren't good for bigger people -- at least not in the fourth ring, but I can't speak for the other sections. I have the hips of an adult woman who enjoys food and doesn't work out daily. My hips were right up against the hard sides of the seat.

If you're 31 years old or older, you must boycott this theater because they will upcharge you just because they assume that millenials are more important than you. I went here in my city for saturday afternoon and upcharged me just because I was a middle aged woman and my experience was ruined by a bunch of entitlement brats ages between 13-30 talking and playing on their cell phones during ballet, and I had trouble hearing the ballet performance. Advice to the owners:Stop discount young millennials simply on the basis of their age, it needs to be replaced with $30 for patrons of all ages making below $2000.00 a month and require them to bring proof of income. Some twenty-somethings and thirty year olds actually have more disposable income than a lot of middle-aged adults, and a lot of them are in less debt than some middle-aged adults.

The dancers coordination was below average. It was disappointing considering it is the NYC ballet. I thought this was going to be first class ballet and it just wasn't. The distance among the dancers, the lines, and arcs, and the general coordination was poor.

What an amazing ballet company. I enjoyed a wonderful evening watching the NYCB perform "La sylphide". So superb! From the artistic backdrops of their art production to the dancers and the choreography and the lovely orchestra. I liked the show from start to finish. It's ballet season. If you haven't attended one, you should go!
