Highlights

Open since 1993, New York Deli started off as a way for us to bring a piece of the Big Apple to our community here in Pinehurst. Originally from Long Island, we missed the flavors of home and noticed just how many New Yorkers live in the area. It was then we decided to start serving New York-style sandwiches, bagels, and pizza as an ode to the city we love. Focused on convenience, you can order our dishes ahead of time or pick something up here and be in and out within 10 minutes. Either way you'll be getting hot, fresh food with products straight from the city, itself.

We went to buy a dozen bagels yesterday and they said they’re only selling them individually. We were there at 8am, not even later in the day. So we ordered them in advance for the next day and picked up this morning only to find out they are not selling smears in containers so we had to drive somewhere else to get them. We live in nyc and have a house down in Pinehurst and was hoping to make this our bagel place but clearly not. Any New Yorker would be offended by their lack of prep and customer service.

Google
This place is wonderful!! Everything is made fresh the meat are all boars head. The cheese is all boars head. You can’t beat a better sandwich. I suggest this place to anybody.

Alexander Brown

Google
This is the greatest sandwich place on the face of the planet. 15+ years goin there? Try the Bronx Bomber.

Google
Hands down the best bagel sandwich in Moore county. It’s so hard to find an authentic NY bagel but man this place has nailed it. Freshly sliced provolone to order, perfect everything bagel seasoning, bacon is out of this world, eggs are delicious. Do yourself a favor and stop by. Fast friendly service, they remember your order and it’s clean. Also who doesn’t love some NY deli nostalgia? You get a dose of that when you walk in and it’s like stepping into a deli in the city. Always consistent.

Google
I saw all the bad reviews so I wanted to say we loved this place! The food was great and the black and white cookies were amazing! Staff was nice also. We are gonna make make this a regular stop!

Google
This place was filthy. I should have walked out as soon as I walked in. I was hungry on my lunch break and let my hunger take over rather than walking out. I ordered a BLT and saw the SUPER DIRTY rag on the cutting board where they prepare the sandwiches. Not only that, but the cutting board itself was filthy like a blackish gray like they never replaced it in all their years in business. They wore gloves, but would handle the register and writing orders on receipts then proceed to directly handle the food. I went to the bathroom and it was.. not clean. Came out of the bathroom and right in my face was the blackest water sitting in a mop bucket right outside the bathroom. Change the water once in a while.. I was surprised to read that even 12 years ago that this place had the same issues (on yelp). I can't believe all this time and they have not changed the way they operate. Only thing you should get if you come here is the chips at the front and BOTTLED drinks on the side, as I feel like they don't clean their soda machine. Oh also, they have a garbage can inside that is a normal street garbage can and a smaller garbage can with garbage piled high. They don't upkeep this place and I'm surprised they are still in business. Do not come here. I will be very surprised if I don't get sick from here.

Google
Delicious! Half the family is from NYC and this little deli is a favorite. They have limited hours and do things their own way which I respect. It takes years of work to get there. It's hard to find a good rueben sandwich around here. Highly recommended.

Google
Ordered two sandwiches---a Reuben and a Philly cheesesteak. The Reuben was very good; the Philly cheesesteak was not. Although it had quite a bit of roast beef, the cheese was a cold lump, the peppers and onions were more of a spread, and the entire sandwich was cold. Coupled with their blaring TV, it was not a good experience.

Yelp
Best BLT I've had in a long time!! I am from Jersey and just tried this place after moving to NC from NJ 3 years ago. Delicious

Yelp
Great service. Good chicken salad sandwich. I didn't get a picture because I ate it too fast

Yelp
Hubs and I stopped in for lunch. There is a rather large sandwich menu, most of which seem to be hot. I found that a little unusual, but decided on a basic turkey with cheese. The turkey was tasteless and the cheese smelled off. I didn't eat much of it. Save your money, go to Circle K and get something out of their refrigerated section. You'll thank me. The ambience consists of some battered outdoor furniture with a TV blaring Fox News at everyone.

Yelp
The place stinks. I don't know why they call themselves a New York deli, and certainly not.

R. G.

Yelp
Everything said below and less. Dirty, noisy place. Got a chicken parm sandwich today . You could have put the chicken on half of the roll it was served on, and no sauce. 3.00 for a bottle drink ridiculous. Waste of money, unfriendly people, never again. Don't know how this place stays in business . Plenty of other better choices in adjacent shoppers centers.

Yelp
Second time in the store and disappointed both times. Ordered a Taylor Ham sandwich 'pork roll'. They gave me one slice of pork roll. I called them and was told that is what their sandwich is, one slice. No thanks NY deli I will take my business elsewhere!

Yelp
Went in for the first time this week. Got a pastrami Reuben and wife had a pizza slice. Food was good and service fast. 4 stars. BUT TV blaring fox news full blast loud, we sat in back corner and couldn't hear each other. 0 stars. I'll give you 2 for serving good food in an unpleasant setting. Got a good thing going, but back off a little.

Black W.

Yelp
First, they make your sandwiches with their bare hands. And their hands don't look clean. TV was way too long for the small space (and it was Fox News). Good selection of chips and the bottle water was refreshing. People serving seemed a little grumpy.

Yelp
I am a local! (60 years) I stop in NY Deli... at least twice a month. My favorite.. Central Park, heated! Love it! I love that it's small business, family owned, and the huge menu. (though I stick to what I love) Love the service. Love the food. It's fun to just chat with folks there, and listen to their accent! Worth walking in....

Yelp
The sandwiches we had were excellent. Very much reminds me of New York. The lady at the register was friendly. We will definitely go again to try other sanswitches. Went back for lunch again and it was excellent. As good as any deli in NY

Yelp
Everything you need to know is, if you order a hot sandwich, they microwave it. Ok. They put it in the microwave. WTH? No. Just no. And good luck finding a clean place to sit. If you must eat here, just get some chips, it's the only thing they don't touch bare handed. I saw an employee take cash from someone, and go to making food without stopping to wash in between. Harris teeter makes a much better sandwich right around the corner.

Yelp
Poor service, overpriced, poor sandwich and very low style and poor cup of coffee!! Thanks but no thanks. Good bye for ever.

Yelp
I want to save anyone from going here. Been a few times and it's as if they do not want your business. They never have bagels and pride themselves on hating southerners. Not sure why they are down here.

Yelp
NY deli fare is good. I originally gave NY Deli 4 stars before I had a chance to eat at Lil Dinos. Hate to say it, but better sandwiches can be had just across the street at Lil Dino's.

Yelp
I ate here one lunch while visiting Pinehurst. We went there during peak lunch --around noon, and though it was a bit busy, they were very efficient in getting their food out. This is a cafe style restaurant so soon as you walk in you are ordering. Like I just said, the staff was pretty efficient so you better know what you want when you walk in --they didn't seem to have too much patients for people who wanted to read their menu. I ordered a deli-style roast beef sandwich with a side of chips. The sandwich was regular grocery store deli meat with a nice fresh roll. There were no bells and whistles with this sandwich and it was no more than what I could have made at home. The restaurant itself was a bit seedy looking --both inside and out. The walls, floor and even tables had a very greasy, grungy feel to them so I tried not to think about what the kitchen area was like. Just as probably could have been expected, the bathrooms were no more cleanly than the restaurant itself :) I'd say the prices were pretty expensive for a lunch, especially considering what we got: two sandwiches, drinks and chips. It cost about $20 for the both of us --none of which goes to the cleaning crew... The next time I'm in Pinehurst I probably won't be visiting this place --though there really didn't seem to be too many choices in the town.

Yelp
Forgot to say the twin towers sandwich is DIVINE I highly recommend it! Food is great! Anyone who says anything about the customer service has clearly never been to a real New York deli.

Matt H.

Yelp
The most authentic NY Deli this side of Long Island. I love their sandwiches and NY style bagels and eat here several times every week. The owners are the nicest people in the world. They are proud NY'ers and Love America.

Lara B.

Yelp
Fresh yummy food. I could've taken a little more Roast Beef on my Mustang Sally. But it was delish. Daughter got the Italian Special and it was great. Super friendly and super fast! Check 'em out.

Yelp
Employees are arguing in the background. Really obnoxious. Wish I had got my meal to go.

Yelp
Very nice people, excellent sandwiches, and fast service. Our son and family just moved into the area and we just discovered this deli

Steve B.

Yelp
I ate here while visiting my family. This place has no resemblance to a deli found in the NY area. Sandwiches are really cheap and not worth the price. I agree with "Mark T.", the cold cuts are no better than what you would find in a grocery store. The potato salad was terrible with the potatoes not being cooked all the way--rather "crunchy". I went to complain about it and this lady manager comes running out of the kitchen screaming and yelling and created quite a scene. She actually followed us out into the parking lot in a rage. Never experienced this type of behavior. The place is not very clean and needs to be closed for cleaning and an complete overhaul. I actually got a splinter from the fraying wood on one of the tables! I might try this place, again, on my next trip to Pinehurst. Maybe they will make positive changes for the better. Maybe they could take a trip to NYC and observe hat is going on and duplicate it! Right now, my advise is: DON'T GO!

Yelp
Always great food. Boars head meats. Sandwiches are like a picture in a magazine , beautiful.

Yelp
You're supposed to make your customers happy with their order, right? Today, we had a terrible experience. We ordered two bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches on Kaiser rolls and one bacon, egg and cheese on bagel, and one bagel cream cheese. When we got back, we noticed that the two bacon, egg and cheese on Kaiser were actually sausage, egg and cheese. So, we called them to let them know our order was wrong, and the lady on the phone saying she repeated us when making our order and that we said sausage. All we asked was for the correct sandwiches and she said "what do you want me to do about it"? She didn't apologize, offer to make us new ones, or even give us a refund. This is NOT making a customer happy. If they were smart, they would know the customer is ALWAYS right. They are losing business. GO BACK TO NY.

M R.

Yelp
Dirty, place bathrooms filthy no soap men's room cleaning buckets nasty black mop. Doors blinds floor dirty nasty. Nice owner friendly. No business, tables all need cleaned. Have a outside residential garbage can in side.

Neil A.

Yelp
WARNING!! Let's just add to the shitty service and attitude of this bunch of trash. Food is horrible. (My friend got to eat his sandwich while I argued with the owner about my sandwich.)Can't make a sandwich for their lives. Trashy owners and worker who put their hands all in your food and then argue with you when you complain about it. Stay far away from this whole in the wall cockroach infested shit place. Didn't even get to eat there as I was cursed out by the owner for asking for my refund when they put their hands in my food. Doesn't even deserve the one star that I'm forced to give -10stars

Yelp
Never disappointed in the quality. It's simple and the staff is always pleasant and efficient. It's just a tad over priced in my opinion. Great little lunch spot though.

Yelp
Wonderful deli and very enduring local restaurant, wonderful Boars Head meats, and incredibly attractive prices...if you want to get away from the corporate style restaurant, this is it! Open early for breakfast too! Owner is loyal to the customers and employees, some of worked there a decade...hands on for sure and that makes for a great experience...wishing NY Deli a wonderful US Open surge!!!

Risa S.

Yelp
I happen to absolutely love this place! I've been coming here for 5+ years and now that I am working just around the corner I make it a point to come once a week to get my fix. NY Deli slices their meat (which is the absolute best: Boar's Head) fresh to order. I've tried multiple items off of the menu and have never been disappointed. Favorites include the Villager and the NY Club. The staff is super friendly to me, however that might be because I come in so much. Reasonably priced -- especially for Boar's Head. They are consistent and delicious and most definitely one of my favorite sandwich places in town!

Al W.

Yelp
This is my crave lunch place. Its fast, and amazing. Just like mom makes them, but WAY more to choose from. Comes with an authentic NY accent. Perfect for lunch on the go. It is family owned so you see the same people every time and by now they know my order by heart! Awesomeness!

Kimberly M.

Yelp
The Deli has great bagels WHEN they have them. I do not understand how a bagel place can run out of bagels consistently before 9am. They pride themselves on getting authentic bagels from NY, yet they really should focus on learning how to make a bagel so they can provide bagels to their customers.

Harold M.

Yelp
First of all very nice people who run it. Now... I ordered a roast beef sandwich and got a slice of roast beef. Where is the Beef?!?! Not exactly a stellar sandwich. Went back and got a rueben and the same deal but microwaved a bit tooooo long. The sandwiches are made with minimal love and/or effort. Being new to the area I see a lot of minimal effort put out in the smaller owner/operator shops. May be the economic times we live in? I dont know. If you need a sandwich... Meh is about right

T L.

Yelp
My family went to this deli for breakfast. My daughter saw the woman not even wash her hands, grab several slices of bread for our french toast and head back to the kitchen after handling money. After being severed our french toast we noticed a long, brown hair in between the slices of my husbands french toast. This place has a rating of 85 posted in their facility and I can see why! I wouldn't even rate them at an 80!!! None of us even ate our breakfast, threw everything away and walked out!!
