Yelp
This is a great greasy spoon, no frills diner, serving totally decent breakfast food that, as other guests have mentioned, is absolutely on point. The house hot sauce is delicious. Where Newmans really shines, however, is in its gumbo. I have exacting standards, having lived in New Orleans for a time, (and eating gumbo at least once a day, at that.) Newmans gumbo definitely lives up to my gumbo expectations. The roux base is spicy and a good consistency, and there's a great mix of fillings- he doesn't skimp on the shrimp, andouille, and other gumbo necessities. The portions are plentiful, too!
I've always felt like a local here and have had wonderful, laid back lunches. Bill Newman, the owner, is a sweetheart, and I feel good about supporting his business. It's a good, casual atmosphere with one stellar dish and several other totally serviceable ones.
