2025 Update: Newman's never disappoints! The veggie omelet with well done home fries, rye toast and a side of turkey sausage was on point 👌 2023 Original post: First visit and it didn't disappoint. I ordered the veggie omelet with home fries and turkey sausage. Everything was tasty and the service was warm & friendly. Will definitely go back! 2023 Update: a few weeks later I went back and had the fluffy pancakes and they were delicious!

Everything I’ve ever ordered from here was so delicious! The older gentleman that usually takes my order is so polite and makes sure you get what you ask for. The younger gentleman is very polite as well and does a wonderful job as well as the cooks. Keep up the good work guys!

I stopped in here for the first time this morning. The staff was very friendly and sat with me to take my order. It was very nice. The restaurant does not serve pork, so do not worry if you have restrictions. Non-meat fare is available as well. I thought the food was good and the potatoes were well seasoned. I recommend trying this place and would return

Home Cooking with great people. Breakfast was not expensive, for that I say leave a good tip because you'll be glad you ate there.

Delicious food! Quick and friendly service. Delicious food... In case you missed that the first time. Great prices, too!

Google

CLEAN YOUR PROPERTY! Trash, drums of oil and crap everywhere. All the surrounding buildings are starting to find cockroaches because of this dirt bag business. CLEAN YOUR PROPERTY. My next call is to the city/health. I SUGGEST LOOKING IN THEIR BACKYARD BEFORE YOU EAT. I GUARANTEE YOU WILL TURN AROUND AND RUN!

Yelp
Food was tasty ( vegetarians should beware of possible bacon in the breakfast potatoes. ) Service was amazing although a little leisurely. Definitely a hole in the wall in terms of ambience. A nice resource in this food desert.

Yelp
This small business is really nice and homey. I found out about it on Uber Eats; the service was quick and good. I went in person today and it's an old school juke joint vibe. There's a pay phone inside and the man working reception was very pleasant. I got the waffle which had a great texture and my mom loves their salmon croquettes and grits. I'm coming back to dine in and will def order on Uber Eats again.

Yelp
Leave your pretense behind and go enjoy well made food served with friendly care. This is your secret spot in Germantown for excellent breakfast and brunch options. I particularly enjoy the international omelette.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots to grab a quick local breakfast. I stay locally so I take my friends when they come visit

Yelp
Very good food and service. Not really a cute sit down and eat ambiance. Take out was great!

Yelp

Yelp
Great food every time I order! The pancakes are amazing. I loved the turkey scrapple and homemade tea.

Yelp
Ordered 3 breakfast platters a was highly disappointed. Grits were undercooked, turkey bacon was undercooked, turkey scrapple was overcooked and greasy, eggs were overcooked. Will NOT order from them again!!!

Yelp
My daughter ordered Mother's Day breakfast for me and the food was AMAZING! Everything was fresh and the portions were shareable! I will definitely be ordering again and again! #Supportblackbusiness

Yelp
Listen here, this Black owned spot is good and the cost is right!! Located on Germantown Ave, the team of men cook your food with love, you can always hear some soulful music playing, and the older gentleman who answers the calls is always pleasant. The place may look a little dingy inside, but please don't judge a book by its cover. It's delicious and cost efficient. Can't go wrong after Sunday morning church. And they give a discount for teachers, beauticians, and possibly healthcare. I love supporting them and frequent there a lot.

Yelp
Ordered delivery and the only sent half of what I ordered. Was told there was nothing they could do and that if I wanted it I would have to drive the 15 minutes to them to pick it up. The food that was delivered was disgusting. The pancakes were soggy and did not come with butter or syrup. You'd think it would be common sense to put these in the bag, but no. Guess not. The order came with scrambled eggs and breakfast "meat". Both were cold so I just threw them away. I could have just given it to my dogs for their breakfast, but they deserve better.

Yelp
I ordered via Uber eats and as you can tell from the photos my pancakes aren't fully cooked. I called the store immediately and the man apologized and said he didn't have a driver to redeliver but I could contact Uber for a refund which never happened. This was the second incident I had with them regarding a order...needless to say I won't be back...EVER!

Yelp
Newman's honestly is trash. Pained me writing this. Do not sell a Salmon omelette and use 2 dollar canned bumble bee mush salmon. Then charge $13. That's trash. No love in that right there. That's just cutting corners and it's blatant. "You are what you serve"

Yelp
Newman's is my breakfast go to spot. Food always hot and tasty. Pancakes on point.. Mr.Bill (owner) always pleasant. No pork served at spot only turkey and beef products so no need to worry if u don't eat swine!!!

Sean L.

Yelp
The food was delicious, the owners hilarious and the ambience very much like home. Please take a second to enjoy this neighborhood gem, I sure did.

Sonya S.

Yelp
This was my third time ordering from them and if I could I would leave a zero star. For the second time I was missing items but unlike the 1st time when the person answered the phone and apologized profusely and later sent the missing items this "manager" Lyric Lewis became extremely combative with me. I always try to patronize black business and sometimes it's difficult due to their lack of professionalism and understanding customer service. Mistakes happen which I understand and was willing to overlook them which is why I gave them another chance. I will never order from them again and suggest you don't as well.

Yelp
I never really go here because I've heard so many horrible things about this place, but I was being lazy and decided to order a breakfast sandwich from here. The sandwich did not taste that bad, but in the middle of me eating it I found a hair. I have never been so disgusted in my life. Save your money!

Yelp
I really hate giving this restaurant in my neighborhood a 1 star rating, but this restaurant was so horrible, I had to do it. Newman's Grill is a small spot in Germantown that served me one of the worst meals I ever had. I should've noticed a few glaring hints upon entering the place. First of all the windows were dirty with hand written notes plastered on them. In the dinning room, the booths were missing pillows as you have to sit on a hard, flat surface, plus there was a 19 inch tv sitting on a chair competing with a radio blaring at the counter. The young lady at the counter asked me could she help me, and then an old guy butt in with a Bubba Gump voice asking if I liked Gumbo. I replied no, because I was allergic to shrimp. Now I see why he asked me that, the menu was french fries, hot dog, hamburgers, hot sausages and breakfast all day. I ordered salmon patties with grits, scrambled eggs and coffee. No grits. WTF! any southern food lovers knows you have to have grit with salmon. SMH..., I ordered the home fries instead. The food was simply awful, the canned salmon was burned and old, the home fries were like a fried mashed potatoes, and the eggs tasted like they were broiled. I pulled a Chef Ramsey and went to the bathroom and tossed it up. Upon leaving no one asked if I enjoyed my meal. I think they knew all too well.

Yelp
This is a great greasy spoon, no frills diner, serving totally decent breakfast food that, as other guests have mentioned, is absolutely on point. The house hot sauce is delicious. Where Newmans really shines, however, is in its gumbo. I have exacting standards, having lived in New Orleans for a time, (and eating gumbo at least once a day, at that.) Newmans gumbo definitely lives up to my gumbo expectations. The roux base is spicy and a good consistency, and there's a great mix of fillings- he doesn't skimp on the shrimp, andouille, and other gumbo necessities. The portions are plentiful, too! I've always felt like a local here and have had wonderful, laid back lunches. Bill Newman, the owner, is a sweetheart, and I feel good about supporting his business. It's a good, casual atmosphere with one stellar dish and several other totally serviceable ones.

Yelp
My wife and I had a late breakfast here in early August 2017. The food was superb, we had cheese omelettes with home fries and wheat toast. The food was well prepared and delicious, nothing fancy, just very good food. I highly recommend this place!

Gwen I.

Yelp
Wow my first time eating here and the grits taste like I made them myself. Delicious! I am in the area every Wednesday and this will be my go to spot! Next meal...Grilled Cheese and Fries...yum

Yelp
i had not been here in a few years. decided to check it out. its right across from gtown high with plenty of meter parking. the staff was friendly and service was fast. i had fish and grits with gumbo to go. everything tasted good. prices were very fair. its mostly a breakfast and lunch place and you can order takeout. a new concept they are trying for weekend evenings will feature a jamaican chef offering carribean food. normal hours are 6am til 3pm or 4pm. closed on monday.

Yelp
Best Gumbo in town for lunch or even breakfast! For breakfast I have the creamy grits with their fish and grits entrée and then pour the tasty Gumbo over the grits. For lunch I have the Gumbo over rice. The Gumbo is flavorful and truly New Orleans style; the beef sausage, chicken, and shrimp are plentiful. Their breakfast pancakes and waffles are fluffy and heavenly. My other lunch time favorite is their chicken salad sandwich which is well seasoned and Super Fresh! Larry B. Philadelphia, PA
