While in Newport, we ate at the Newport Lobster Shack not once but twice!
We made sure to get there as soon as it opened on our first day in Newport and had our fill of lobster rolls and lobster bisques. Due to their popularity, we did not expect that we would get to eat there again a 2nd time, but we were glad we were able to.
Our first time at Newport Lobster Shack, we ordered a couple of lobster bisques and lobster rolls. The bisque was creamy, and the consistency was super thick. Think Campbell's Chunky line's clam chowder thick. This really comes down to personal preference, but if this consistency is too thick for you, you can always water it down, pop it in the microwave at your home/hotel, and stir it a bit, for a looser, thinner bisque.
The lobster rolls, at $32 each, are served in 6" buns, but these buns are generously stacked with large chunks of lobster pieces. They know their customers want more lobster than bread, which I can definitely appreciate.
I can guarantee you won't find portions like this in any restaurant for this price. The lobster roll was very filling, and the lobster was tasty and fresh, and that's because their lobsters are dock-to-dish.
On our last day in Newport, it was Memorial Day Monday. It seemed people thought the shack was closed for the holiday, and so did we. We decided to test our luck, and to our surprise, the shack was opened! And there was no line! We got more lobster rolls, and since my husband liked the lobster bisque so much, he got that again as well.
This was definitely the better choice than brunch fare and costs less. You pick up your order and eat at one of their picnic tables on site. When you're done, you clean up after yourselves, and that's that. You don't have to leave a tip.
