"Lobster is a big deal in Newport. A group of life-long local fisherman built this shack as a type of co-op to sell their fresh catch directly to the public. The Lobster Shack is fully stocked with wild-caught crab, conch, and lobster, obviously. Feast on fresh catch cooked every way imaginable: lobster bites, bisque, cakes, and finally the best lobster roll to be found in Newport. If you’re craving a taste of Rhode Island from afar, you can have catch live shipped overnight to anywhere in the US, or why not try to recreate the Newport Lobster Shack experience at home and cook from their aptly named cookbook The Fisherman’s Table."

Delicious Lobster Roll and Lobster Bisque. Fast service and reasonable prices.

David Chitanava

Google
One of the greatest lobster spots! 🦞I had a medium-sized twin lobster dinner that came with coleslaw and corn. My friend had a Lobster roll and Lobster bisque. Everything was delicious, the service was quick, and prices were reasonable. I just wish they had a better option to wash hands as the existing one is challenging and doesn’t really work as it should.

Cute spot to sit enjoy a lobster roll and have a nice view of the harbor

Love the atmosphere and the ambience. Very grassroots. The fried lobster was delicious. The lobster roll was very generous and fresh.

Google
Best Lobster roll I have tried during our visit to RI. Amazingly fresh lobster, served perfectly. Great views at the picnic tables. By far the freshest Lobster I've had.

Google
It’s fresh! It’s delicious! The best thing after lobster roll is lobster roll with a view. I recommend this place! My mother is very picky when it comes to lobsters. She approved this place! I HIGHLY recommend!!

Google
Food was amazing!! View was nice to look at and I can not wait to come back. Perfect little place where the boats come in.

Google
Called before swinging by to purchase Lobster meat to bring back to NY. I was greeted with a very friendly answer and an offer to put together an order for me. Arrived 10 min later and had an easy pay and pick up. Friendly family and the freshest seafood you could ask for. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Immaculate vibes. The interior is spacious and so beautiful on a sunny day. Our server was efficient. The food was okay. I thought the lobster tasted yummy, but the buns were a poor vehicle for the lobster. Calamari was tasty but after the 5th piece, you start to really feel the aftertaste from the bread coating hit. The only way to mask it is to eat more calamari!

Yelp
This was our 4th lobster experience while on our motor coach New England fall foliage tour. Our tour guide had our driver pass by so we knew how to walk over from the transit hub nearby. My sister's friend who's a New England local said this was a must go to for lobster rolls. Don't need to tell us twice. The five of us made a beeline over. The shack is a food truck. Picnic tables under canopies. Order & pay at the window. Then wait for your orders. We got there around 12:30pm. The line moved fairly quickly. The five of us ordered the traditional lobster roll with chips and bowls of lobster bisque. No sharing by me this time. I'm happier having my own lobster roll. Generous portions of lobster on a decent toasted bun. Very fresh. The lobster bisque was creamy and contained bits of lobster. A great meal had by all.

Yelp
This spot was absolutely amazing!! We spent a very rainy weekend in Newport and were thankful for the Lobster shack and its corresponding hooded area! We ordered a bunch of lobster rolls, French fries and chowder. Everything was cooked fantastic and was flavorful. The food came out super quick and he folks that work there were super nice. Have recommended this spot to a few people already- big, meaty lobster rolls with flavor !
google avatar

Yelp
A great little spot located right on the water and definitely suited our craving for the infamous New England Lobstahhhh Rolls. These lobster rolls definitely didn't disappoint! Mixed with celery and sauce on a soft roll it was exactly what we needed. The atmosphere was great seeing the fishing boats coming in and out and enjoying the Newport Sunshine. We also had a cup of soup , clam chowder which was great. Don't expect this to be a cheap meal though, we spent about 50 dollars for two lobster rolls, a small cup of soup and lays potato chips. I'm sure that this is normal pricing in New England but we were not ready for that!
google avatar

Yelp
Food: we had the clam chowder and lobster bisque and some fries. It was def tasty! Just enough for a quick snack. Service: the service was good. Order at the window, then they call your name to snatch it up when ready. Ours only took a few minutes. Ambiance: this was right near the pier so it felt very true to the freshness. Seagulls and sparrows try to join you but they were respectful that day lol there's bench style seating and it's fully outdoors. Def a good spot to stop by!

Yelp
While in Newport, we ate at the Newport Lobster Shack not once but twice! We made sure to get there as soon as it opened on our first day in Newport and had our fill of lobster rolls and lobster bisques. Due to their popularity, we did not expect that we would get to eat there again a 2nd time, but we were glad we were able to. Our first time at Newport Lobster Shack, we ordered a couple of lobster bisques and lobster rolls. The bisque was creamy, and the consistency was super thick. Think Campbell's Chunky line's clam chowder thick. This really comes down to personal preference, but if this consistency is too thick for you, you can always water it down, pop it in the microwave at your home/hotel, and stir it a bit, for a looser, thinner bisque. The lobster rolls, at $32 each, are served in 6" buns, but these buns are generously stacked with large chunks of lobster pieces. They know their customers want more lobster than bread, which I can definitely appreciate. I can guarantee you won't find portions like this in any restaurant for this price. The lobster roll was very filling, and the lobster was tasty and fresh, and that's because their lobsters are dock-to-dish. On our last day in Newport, it was Memorial Day Monday. It seemed people thought the shack was closed for the holiday, and so did we. We decided to test our luck, and to our surprise, the shack was opened! And there was no line! We got more lobster rolls, and since my husband liked the lobster bisque so much, he got that again as well. This was definitely the better choice than brunch fare and costs less. You pick up your order and eat at one of their picnic tables on site. When you're done, you clean up after yourselves, and that's that. You don't have to leave a tip.

Yelp
They were having a lobster blowout sale for the end of the year. All lobsters, no matter the size were $12 a pound. Got 6 for about $98. We ended up getting almost 2 pound of meat after we broke them down! So so good! Will definitely go back next year to try their lobster rolls. Lots of parking and off the beaten path so you dont have to deal with Newport traffic.
google avatar

Joann T.

Yelp
Food truck/shack style with a few outdoor seats. The lobster is delivered directly to them from the fishermen on the shore. Definitely the best lobster I had in Newport by far. The lobster bites were perfectly crunchy & delightful. It's a must get item.
google avatar

Sarah N.

Yelp
The Newport Lobster Shack is a cute place to grab some seafood. Rather than a restaurant, it's more of a food truck with a shaded outdoors seating area right by the water. The service is super quick. The food itself was alright. I didn't think the lobster roll was outstanding by any means. I actually enjoyed the calamari a lot more.
google avatar

Rebecca C.

Yelp
They have their own parking lot! Seating is covered patio right by the water and it's absolutely lovely to see the waterfront with the boats in the water! The lobster is definitely fresh, but for the price, the amount of lobster you get isn't really worth it. Other spots have more variety of meat, from claws to tails, but it may have been because we ordered the chix size. The calamari was honestly such a hit! Fried with light coating and came crisp and fresh. Lobster roll comes with a bag of chips. The server was really nice!

Yelp
We stopped by here on our short getaway to Newport, and it was a pleasant place to eat for lunch on a Saturday. The free parking for customers is super nice, and they have nice seating and tables for customers to eat comfortably while viewing the harbor. Service was great and food came out quickly. My only gripe is the price. For the 32 oz lobster roll that you can see in my pic, I had to pay $32 dollars. Everything else was super expensive and my meal came out to be a good $60-70 dollars.

Yelp
Order your food from the food trailer and find a seat (picnic tables). They will announce your name when your order is ready. Seating is outside in the shade. Some tables are next to stinky trash cans. A nice view of the harbor. No restrooms to wash hands, but there is hand sanitizer. Lobster Roll was not that impressive. $20 for small. The hot dog bun was stale and crumbly. Nasty cheap white bread. The cold lobster salad was bland. $8 clam chowder was very delicious. Creamy with just the perfect amount of seasonings. Comes with a small pack of oyster crackers. Service was good. Food was ready very quickly. Chips that come with Lobster Roll is Lays potato chips. Prices are high for what you get. Overhyped for the cruise tourists. I would highly recommend Luke's Lobster in Bowen's Wharf. The Lobster Roll was so much better there.

Yelp
A really lovely spot for a late lunch on a sunny yet windy afternoon. The food was overall really fresh and made to order, so expect to wait a couple minutes! The two sisters (one was in charge of the ordering and one in charge of prepping the orders) were both super nice! The owner (I presume) and some other worker went out of their way to ask people, who were sitting at the tables near the waters, if the wind was too much, and if so, they could roll down some plastic cover curtains things to solve that issue. 10/10 service and care! Specifically on the food... Lobster roll - 9/10 - a good amount of fresh lobster meat with not too much mayo, which I appreciate! Wish the bun came toasted or more toasted; couldn't tell if it was or not Fish and chips - 8/10 - crispy hot fish that came with a plateful of fresh fries, nothing too special about it, but it was hot and fresh Lobster bisque - 10/10 - creamy and well seasoned bisque with a few big pieces of lobster, one for my favorite lobster bisque of all time Overall, it was a really good experience and would def recommend for others to try if you are ever in the newport area! If I ever come back to Newport again, this will be on my list to must visit again!

Yelp
Amazing! Would def go there again. Food was great employees were friendly, food cooked with passion.

Yelp
2nd time here. Great lobsters. We ordered lobster dinner which had 2 1.25 lb lobsters corn and coleslaw. Lobsters are out of the world fresh. We also tried the clam chowder which is very flavorful. It sits right next to the pier and you feel the fresh air.
google avatar

Yelp
Numerous locals recommended this lobster shack as the best in town. The lobster tasted extremely fresh, however our buns werent toasted, buttered or anything. We still enjoyed & would recommend

Yelp
This is an absolute must if you are visiting Newport ! This shack is run by local fisherman and is right next to the pier where all of their boats and supplies is docked. It is a small walk up shack where you can order food to go or to dine. We opted to eat there as there are picnic tables that overlook the water. The fresh seafood and the view doesn't get much more authentic than this. The staff were so friendly and answered our questions about the menu with a smile. We got the "chick" sized lobster rolls and a cup of lobster bisque. Of course for lobster you're going to pay a decent price but compared to neighboring restaurants this place was a deal! The lobster rolls were different than what I have had in the past as they were served cold almost like a shrimp salad (lobster rolls I've had before in Maine have been warm with lots of melted butter). Nonetheless they were still delicious and packed on lots of fresh lobster meat. The bisque was heavenly - just rich enough to be decadent but not soo rich that it was too heavy to eat. Overall we absolutely loved this place and I highly recommend it to any traveler! PS: they offer free parking on premises , we didn't know this and paid for parking nearby so don't make our mistake !

Yelp
Our FIRST lobster roll!! We adored this place! Cute location for pics & a very very yummy lobster roll. We will be back! Highly recommend this place for locals, cruise ship guests, and all tourists.

Yelp
Very quick and efficient ordering process. The lobster roll was good and tasted fresh. There is nice shaded outdoor seating available right by the water.

Yelp
I would say that a visit here is a Newport necessity. I was torn per usual as to which soup to choose because I usually always go for the clam chowder but this time one of the girls working the window said the bisque was the way to go. I'm so glad I tried it. The flavor was delicate and absolutely unforgettable. I've had soo many lobster bisques and this wasn't too thick- the consistency was perfect. I think I may have detected a bit of sherry. It was great! I do think it could've been a little hotter. We also tried the fish and chips (cod) and it was super fresh and also quite delicate despite being fried within an inch of it's life. The opportunity to sit outside on the pier made the experience.

Yelp
Coming here will make you feel like a rich bitch without breaking the bank for great seafood. There's no way hubs and I would head home and not eat lobster anything when we visit New England. Just no way. Since our hotel was right in the middle of tight, tourist hotspots in Newport, coming to this shack a bit away from that hustle and bustle, was a huge relief. The folks here have almost spread the net wide to bring the very best in Fish+Chips, Fish sandwiches, bisque, etc at the Shack part of it. As if that wasn't enough, they sell fresh Jonah Crabs, live lobsters, etc on the Market side. Our fried Lobster bites had a nice batter that didn't take over the sweet meat. Lobster bisque was topped generously with meat and had a terrific texture. I would've enjoyed it a tad more without the sherry(?) that overshadowed all that glorious lobster. My lightly battered Fish sandwich already came with tartar I didn't know about and asked for just a bun and voila- used my existing fish with a new bun. Thank you! I mean- these folks took the humble fish sandwich and elevated it to another star in their menu. My own personal gripe was not being able to order a Buttered Lobster Roll- because they don't make that kind. And if you know me here, I have a big issue with lobster and mayo.... TOGETHER. It's not you Newport Lobster Shack- it's me. Seriously. Hubs enjoyed his lightly mayo lobster roll in all its glory though. Service was super nice, our meals already came with chips and ordered some soft drinks. No fuss eating on picnic benches. All this for $84. Newport Shack is turning out magic and eating all this seafood right on the dock before driving down home only said, 'New England'.

Yelp
This place was extraordinary. No frills, outdoor patio / picnic table seating, reasonably priced lobster with friendly service. I loved the diversity of lobster dishes. You could do fried, boiled, lobster roll. And the fried lobster was BOMB. There were nuggets (knuckle, tail) and strips (the piece of the tail above the digestive tract that are chewier). It was lightly breaded and oh so good. The family ate there and we got a nice smattering of stuff...and then I took an order of nuggets and an order of the strips to go. I regret not ordering two of each to go.

Yelp
Awesome sandwich. Had my first lobster roll today! Served with spicy mayo vs butter. Long line but it moves fast, there folk working here are friendly and fast. They have it together here !
google avatar

Lily C.

Yelp
Solid seafood shack food. I had the Lobster bisque and it had nice flavor and texture, not too much Sherry which I hate, plus a little dollop of fresh lobster on top. Husband and daughter had the Fish & Chips. Very fresh but they were both looking for a little more "batter". It's lightly floured and deep fried. So if you're looking for a battered, Fish & Chips, you may be disappointed too. Cole slaw was delicious, as were the fries. Nice & skinny. It hit the spot. Fair price for solid seafood, especially in the heart of Newport.
google avatar

Christian S.

Yelp
If you're a lobster lover, this is the place to go in Newport! Unlike some of the tourist traps in the wharf, The Newport Lobster Shack is the real deal. My criteria for a good lobster roll is simple: it must contain tail meat and the lobster rolls here are loaded with both tail and claw meat! The lobster is super fresh and flavorful and not overly dressed or dripping in mayo. Also, a trip to The Newport Lobster Shack isn't complete without ordering the lobster bites. It's literally a full lobster tail cut into bite sized pieces, deep fried, and served with spicy mayo. Need I say more? The line can be long but don't let that discourage you - it moves quickly. Plus, there's nothing better than enjoying some fresh seafood while overlooking the boats in the marina.
google avatar

Bruce P.

Yelp
Aside from an expensive whole lobster dinner they only offer deep fried lobster pieces. No wine or beer. Served on paper plates. I'd rather have the lobster roll at Reefs. Probably best to buy your whole lobster here yourself and prepare it at home.
google avatar

Mark D.

Yelp
My sandwich had over 2 pounds of lobster in it. it was incredible. They have a little seagull named Charlie that comes to the tables and plays with the kids. Great time.
google avatar

Martha H.

Yelp
Lobster was delicious. Enjoyed the meal along with the view by the water. Service was quick and took less than 5 minutes.
google avatar

Norma P.

Yelp
If you are looking for authentic right off the boat, they know the name of the fishermen, lobster, then this is the place. It's where the well-worn, hardworking lobster boats and the large yachts meet. The lobster bites are to die for. No shelling, just delicious lightly battered, make your summer lobster. This is the place for people who have eaten lobster their entire life and those trying it for the first time. ENJOY!!!!
google avatar

Steph S.

Yelp
Tucked away next to the water is the lobster shack. Saw recommendations online and it was worth every penny. It's a food truck that serves lots of lobster and seafood. It's a bit pricy but soooo worth it! The lobster bisque and lobster bites were so fresh and delicious. Food came out fast and we sat outside on the water eating. You can tell why this place is crowded. Despite its location more away from everything people still come for the food! They sell live seafood as well for those who want to bring home. Worth a trip I promise!

Mary C.

Yelp
This place was recommended to us by our local host. It's just a food trailer with walkup ordering and picnic tables. We thought the food would be much better than the location indicated. It wasn't. The lobster bisque had very little lobster and it was lukewarm. The squid rings were cold and greasy and too chewy. My husband had lobster strips that were mostly breading. What a disappointment. Way overpriced for poor quality food.
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
This is a must do when vacationing or passing by Newport, RI. They catch daily and serve fresh as can be lobster which comes chilled in a hot dog roll or piece of bread depending if you opt for the 6oz lobster select roll or the tinier 3oz lobster roll. They serve with a little bit of mayonnaise, celery, and supposedly there is hot butter in the bottom of the roll (you can pay fifty cents for extra butter on the side if desired). The roll which I split with my girlfriend was exceptional quality lobster meat and butter really isn't needed imo but to each their own. The lobster roll comes with chips or you can pay three extra dollars to sub out the chips for french fries. The french fries were pretty basic but let's be honest your not coming out to a wharf / marina for french fries, your coming for that fresh AF seafood! Also bought the lightly breaded calamari that comes with banana peppers to ensure we had enough food. I loved how lightly breaded the calamari was as I prefer my calamari not breaded at all. It was drenched in a fair amount of oil but nothing a napkin or two won't fix. Highly recommend you make a stop here. If I ever come back to the area I would make it a point to come back to this food truck by the bay in a New York minute. As always people SYOY!!!

Yelp
This best hidden gem. Thanks to another helper I found this place and I'm so happy I did. The food was delicious and fresh and the staff was very friendly and helpful. After you order your food there are a few covered tables right next to the water for you to enjoy the view and the food. Already trying to plan my next trip here just to get the lobster bites.
google avatar

Kat C.

Yelp
Sorry. I wanted to love it. It's fun to see the working docks and eat shellfish straight on the water. But the bread was really plain and kind of detracts from the fish instead of complementing it, and I think you always need a healthy dripping of butter with lobster. You do get a pretty decent amount of lobster though of course you pay for it - though I wouldn't day you overpay; it's what you'd expect. It's fine. The people are super nice. I don't think I would go back.
google avatar

Megan C.

Yelp
Love this setup and business model SO much and was super pumped to make my way to The Lobster Shack on a rainy Monday afternoon. There was no line given the weather, and I ordered a small lobster roll to enjoy as I sat under the little tent area they have overlooking the boats and marina area. My lobster roll was flavorful, light, and delicious. It came out super fast and I loved that it seemed like it was a big mix of local workers and visitors. I also appreciated that this directly supports the workers in a sustainable way and it seems to be a real family affair. Don't park where it says not to (obviously) and enjoy your time at this great institution!

Yelp
Nothing beats spontaneously deciding to eat lobsters by the beach. The line was long, filled with tourists, but the rowdy outdoor ambiance was enticing enough to get us excited. Once we got our order in, the food came super quick. A mishap was they are cheap with the utensils and you would have to manually pull for your napkins from the dispenser. We got 3 Steamed 1 1/4 Lobster Dinner ($40 each), which came with 2 lobsters each. The lobster was pretty comparable to the ones I had in Maine, and by that, I mean succulent and sweet especially when dipped into the melted butter. The Lobster Bisque ($7) and the Clam Chowder ($7) were both delicious and worth trying! The Bisque was more flavorful and heavier, so I preferred the creamy taste of the Clam Chowder more. The Calamari ($12) wasn't very memorable as they weren't fried enough, but they weren't bad! Yes, eat your food at the shack for the boat views and shade, but take it to the beach for an experience!
google avatar

Steph W.

Yelp
The shack is located on the side of a pier in what resembles a ship container. Next door to the shack was live seafood for purchase. We came around 11:30 and there was just enough empty seats but by 12, the line was wild. The 6oz size lobster roll is stuffed to the brim and might be a lot for one person and enough for 2 to share at $29. The food is prepared within 5 minutes. The lobster roll was very soft but not buttery and the meat was not very seasoned but fresh. It was light on the mayo, served chilled, and extremely filling. However, the dish itself was very lackluster as I've had much better lobster rolls elsewhere. There is apparently a portapotty around the corner but no actual bathroom (not confirmed) There's a large parking lot behind the shack.
google avatar

Jackie B.

Yelp
My first lobster roll experience and I definitely wish I had gotten a large instead! One thing I wish though was for extra butter on the side but that was the only thing missing. Besides that, I'm glad I got to check this place out. Luckily when I went the lines wasn't too crazy and they prepared the roll pretty fast. They also have other seafood options such as shrimp. The roll comes with a side of chips, which I substituted for fries. Parking wise, there's a lot where you can park and if not there's street parking that's metered.

KJ H.

Yelp
I asked for a soda. On the menu it says $2.50. The lady at the register said $2.70. So, I thought ok, maybe they're charging tax to it?. So I gave her $3.00 and I'm waiting for my change. I said that's it? She replied yes. She just charged me $3.00 for a can of soda when on the menu says $2.50 and she said $2.70. Seriously.. I'm not gonna make a scene over 50 cents. What a disappointment.

Yelp
The Newport Lobster Shack ... is as advertised. We came, we saw, we ate lobster rolls! We had two 3 oz lobster rolls and they were good. The came with fries and you could purchase other sides as well. I had the corn on the Cobb and cole slaw. The price was right and the location was scenic. We parked down the street at a public lot which charged $2 per half an hour and walked a short distance to the lobster shack. It was a great experience and we got exactly what we were looking for at a reasonable price. If you are in the area, stop on in! Enjoy!
google avatar

Matthew S.

Yelp
Solid food, even if it is a bit overpriced. The lobster meat is big and plentiful, to the point it is literally spilling out of the roll. I only do not like that they put celery in it to enhance the flavor. Lobster meat should be good without adding anything extra to it. I get why it is added, but to me, drawn butter and spices work just as well. The lobster bisque is a but underwhelming after the first three bites. Also a bit on the pricey side. Now that I have been here I have no reason to return. This area has plenty of opportunities for more delicious rolls.

Yelp
Got the lobster roll and clam chowder. Delicious! Super friendly. Super nice. Nice staple when visiting town.
google avatar

Stephanie T.

Yelp
My friend and I came here after it was recommended by our cruise tour guide. It's a cute shack right by the water. There is a stall that sells live lobsters and another stall for a variety of seafood options. It was $29 for a lobster roll and $7 for a cup of clam chowder. The lobster meat was fresh and chunky. However, there wasn't much sauce in the lobster meat and the bun tasted normal. The clam chowder was creamy. If you're looking for a quick bite with nice views, I would say try this place but if you want something a little better then walk a little further into downtown and try those restaurants.

Yelp
So good! Great lobster roll, New England clam chowder and lobster bisque . Small little place with great fresh food! Loved it!

Yelp
i had the pleasure of dining at the newport lobster shack on a recent trip to rhode island! here's everything i loved about it: - LOBSTER ROLLS! obviously, this is the biggest highlight because it was the whole reason i decided to go, and i was NOT disappointed. buttery, salty, tender, beautiful. i can't recommend it enough! and the price was great, to boot. - convenient parking. it was an absolute breeze finding a spot, and parking is free for customers! no need to circle or worry about parking fees. - covered dining when it rains. i visited on a rainy day which meant that the covered outdoor seating was a life-saver! this made my experience feel cozy and intimate, despite the rain. - lightning-fast service. it felt like no time at all from the moment i ordered until the time i had this GORGEOUS, buttery lobster roll in front of me. - scenic water views. possibly the most enchanting aspect of this lobster shack is its view of the water. there's something magical about enjoying a seafood feast while gazing out over the waterfront, adding an extra layer of charm to the dining experience. ily newport lobster shack! be back soon :)

Yelp
A must go if you are visiting Newport! It's really good pricing with $42 for lobster dinner with two lobsters, and the lobster roll and lobster bisque are delicious. It's open seating but it's always possible to find seats. There are parking next to the shack on the dock so you don't need to pay for the street parking.

Yelp
Line was long when I got there on Labor Day but it moves at a moderate pace. Food actually came out a lot quicker than I thought. Loved the lobster bites and will definitely be back to try the whole steamed lobster dinner.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
This is a good spot for a super casual seafood place in Newport with benches by the water! The lobster roll is not available Connecticut style with butter, and can only be served with mayo, which was a bummer. We tried the lobster bisque which was very good, just wish we had the option of it coming with oyster crackers. The fried lobster bites were also really good and came with a flavorful spicy sauce pictured. They also sell live seafood but we didn't try any of that since we just walked over from the wharf to get a quick lunch.

Yelp
Yummy food we liked the chowder and service was fast. Not a lot of space to sit though
