"For many, the more Christmas lights there are, the better. But a seasonal trip to Holidays at the Newport Mansions, presented by The Preservation Society of Newport County, offers up a refined and subtle approach to the holiday magic. The event features 28 themed Christmas trees, including an impressive 15-foot tree made up of 150 poinsettia plants." - Travel + Leisure Editors
"The turn of the century brought millionaires and their heirs and heiresses to the Newport shoreline and along with them, some big houses. Taking their inspiration from Versailles and Italy’s Renaissance palazzos, The Vanderbilt’s built The Breakers and Marble House, Doris Duke commissioned Rough Point, and heiress Theresa Oelrichs built Rosecliff. Tours are a summertime highlight as many close during the rest of the year."

Very much worth the visit. The society does a lot to make sure the mansions are easy to access and also provide resources to guide the sightseeing and make the experience worthwhile. I only had time to do the Vanderbilt tour - The Breakers which are the pictures I am attaching here. Will recommend doing all tours over a weekend trip!

These mansions really are quite breathtaking. The amount of intricate detail in their design are really quite fascinating. Pictures really don't do it Justice, it's one of those you have to see things. While they don't provide audio devices, you can simply scan the provided barcode before entering the mansion on your phone and be able to walk through each room at your own pace and learn a great deal about how they used to live in those times. To me this is even easier. I do feel like you're missing out on the experience if you don't listen. Overall fun experience. Go ahead and feel like royalty even if for just an hour 👍

These homes were absolutely stunning and is a must see if in Newport Rhode Island. Priced well only $34 to see two of the homes and to be able to take as long as you like touring the homes and the grounds. It’s also a place to see some rooms that they are filming the new show the Gilded Age.

The website takes you in circles when attempting to purchase passes. When I select member pricing I am immediately brought back to the home page. Any time I need to purchase passes for a timed event or tour I have to call their offices and play phone tag to reserve a space. As a member this is frustrating and can only imagine what international visitors go through when attempting to navigate the pass purchases.
I highly doubt I am the only person with this problem and sincerely wish PSNC would take some of that HBO money and revamp their website.

It was a dream come true to finally be able to explore the mansions along the cliff walk. The guided and audio tours were fascinating. I hope to return soon.

Lovely mansions. Only two out ten were open to visit during our visit in November.

I went to the Newport Mansions Preservation Society to pick up a replacement membership card, which the membership staff person very happily produced for me. I needed it sooner than the mail would deliver. The building is officially closed for renovation, but staff are still working there. It's lovely, like all the historic buildings. There is adequate parking, and it's easy to find. Very pleased with the membership staff.

Love these mansions full of beautiful furniture and so much history. The details are stunning and staff has always been so amazing. We paid for a family membership with the Preservation Society and not only do you save so much money by being a member, but you get special events and benefits that make this a priceless gift. People should “gift” family memberships because it’s the gift that keeps giving throughout the year. The education aspect is great for students as well.
