"Newport's polo club is the oldest in the country (founded in 1876), so it's no surprise that the grounds are a huge part of the appeal here; the original property was called Glen Farm, and was complete with an incredible stone barn and stable. There are matches every Saturday in the summer, and the tailgate is an important part of the scene–regulars will have huge spreads and tents, but all you need is a bottle of champagne, cheese, and a picnic blanket to take part. Elaborate Kentucky-Derby-style hats are highly encouraged. "

What a great way to spend an afternoon! Entry and exit is organized and easy to manage. The lawn is well kept and plenty spacious for families with kids, dogs, food, and games! The announcer was clear and helpful to us new to polo. We had an absolute blast!

Amazing experience for a first time watching Polo game. Grass is so soft that everyone is sitting and enjoying a game. I couldn’t resist to take my shoes off and feel all the softness of the grass myself. People bring there own small table beautifully decorated. All staff is VERY pleasant and professional. Game was very interesting to watch. Well taken care horses and amazing riders. If you in Newport or surroundings at the time of Polo game , highly recommend to come and enjoy your afternoon.

What a great experience. Definitely recommend. Incredible views and you can bring your own food to tailgate or purchase seats. They have waitresses and a bar as well. Plenty of parking.

First time going to a Polo match and had a wonderful time. The entire experience from beginning to end was positive. The process for buying tickets online was fairly easy and user friendly. Even contacting customer support for some questions was a positive experience. They responded to my questions in a timely manner and guided me to more information that was very useful. I planned this event for x3 couples, so there were plenty of questions to go around since 4/6 were experiencing it for the first time. Directions to the grounds were very clear and easy to follow, parking was hassle free, getting to our table was simple, and ordering food/drinks was very convenient. The entire staff was friendly throughout the event. Being our first time, we were all extremely happy and satisfied, we had such a great time that we will be doing it again. I highly recommend this event for anyone who is looking for something exciting to do outdoors with a group!

Google
Absolutely a great venue. Fun to watch, easy parking and lots of fun, even if you have never seen a polo match! Bring you favorite beverages and snacks or dinner and make a whole afternoon of it.

I have never been to a polo match before and it was fun. But tickets ahead of time and get there early to picnic around the polo field. You can bring your own food or buy it from a great selection of food trucks. Next time I go that's what I want to try. The event is lively and fun. There's the stomping of the divett's (think Pretty Woman) and at the end get a good spot to try and get a hand slap from all the players. It's a good afternoon.

Cool experience from out of state - drinks are expensive in certain spots. If we were local I would bring a picnic blanket, cooler and chairs

Polo is a fun way to spend the day. It is something different to enjoy than typical Saturdays. Tailgate spots are fantastic, and they are right on the sideline! They go pretty early, so you have to buy them months in advance. But they allow up to 15 people, and you can get there 4 hours before a match and stay late. Lawn seating is cheaper and more readily available. I highly recommend trying it out for an afternoon. Plus, stomping the divets is always fun. And the commentators are usually pretty funny and witty.

Yelp
We have been going to polo matches for years and love it! Plan to arrive early so you can set up your tailgating and get a good spot. Some people get very fancy so check the website to see if there is a special theme. Price is reasonable, lawn seats being $20/adult. We usually bring stuff for the kids to do after and stay to hang out...kites, a football, soccer ball, etc.

Yelp
I knew absolutely nothing about polo before heading to my first match so was worried I wouldn't enjoy it. Luckily I was very wrong! This was a great way to spend a summer Saturday! We just got lawn seats which are reasonably priced (around $20) and brought chairs, snacks and lawn games. We arrived fairly early so we could set up and then we played our lawn games on the field while we waited for the match to start. It was a lovely way to spend the afternoon! Then the polo started and the announcer did a great job of explaining what was going on as it was happening so I felt like I could follow along. I also enjoyed the half time divot stomp to stretch my legs! I would definitely come back again!

Yelp
In regard to polo, great time. Lovely facility. However, the staff at this event were incredibly mean and unfortunately racist. We had an Asian Uber driver who drove to the front entrance. When he stopped to let us out, the front staff screamed in his face in a very derogatory way. We got out and the staff were rude to us at the entrance. I tried telling one woman on staff we had a private event that we were trying to find and she interrupts me to say "Who are you talking about!?" It was rather jarring how much screaming we witnessed. When we left, we saw the staff again screaming (this is not an exaggeration) at non-White Uber drivers trying to exit their facility. We understand that driving to a polo event is a high-stakes, stressful, scenario; however, it is no excuse to be racist or mean. Unfortunately, the staff at Newport Polo does not understand this

Yelp
Great place to visit and enjoy a polo match. You can bring your own food and much more. People are fun and dress nice. We always have a great experience. Love this place. Great in mid summer too. They have everything for you. Great drinks and food and etc...

Yelp
I happened to be in town for the weekend and learned about the Rotary Club's Charity Polo Match. I have been to polo matches in the past, but never in Newport. It was a great excuse for the ladies to put on a cute dress, wear a big hat, and enjoy ourselves. My group of friends all were in agreement that the polo match would be something they would enjoy. Not only was the match for charity, but it was the first match of the season. We all were going to dinner in downtown Newport post the game and uber'd to the grounds instead of driving ourselves, but I wish we did. I was slightly bummed that we did not plan accordingly to bring our own food, beverage, and chairs to the event. But it was a learning experience! We did not remain parched for too long and were able to purchase drinks from the bar that was setup. There were three or four specialty drink offerings for the event, wine, and sangrias that could be purchased. The most popular drink that was on the menu was the "Divot Stomp" , which was a bourbon based drink topped off with champagne. Let me tell you, they were delicious! Others in the group opted for either wine, tequila sodas, or vodka sodas. The bar was well equipped and ready for the event. There was so food being sold at the match at that time. I am unsure if later in the season food for sale is an option. The venue's offered seating varied and was on the minimal side. A piece of advice, bring your own chairs if possible. There were a number of high-top tables with chairs, along with a pavilion of sorts with additional tables and chairs. The match itself was action packed and kept us engaged the entire match. My favorite part of the match is the tradition of divot stomping during half-time. Just the experience of walking around the field in search of divots to stomp is so much fun. I highly recommend going to a match whether you are local or come from afar. Grab your chairs, pack a cooler, and head to a match. You will not be disappointed and will be in for a great time.

Yelp
We had an amazing time here. Weather was amazing and the drinks so delicious. Parking was very easy. Truly an amazing time watching the polo match.

Yelp
Add this to your list of summertime must-dos in New England. Put on a pretty dress, grab your picnic basket, and bring along a blanket to spread out on to watch the polo ponies zoom by. And yes, there will be divot stomping during half-time. General parking is free, but if you want to reserve a tailgating spot, do so beforehand. General admission is $12 for adults (bring cash), or there are other seating options available for higher purchase. To make reservations, select the match you wish to attend from the schedule and go from there: http://www.nptpolo.com/?e=inner2&itemcategory=65714&extype=1150.

Yelp
My husband and I booked an appreciation event here for our business clients in September of 2021. Ryan was incredible and helped me through the process. When I arrived to set up and the tent was up, chairs were out, and the the tables had been placed in the tent. I set up the food and drinks and was ready to go for our guests. The match was fun the announcer was wonderful and entertaining and a great time was had by all!! Looking forward to hosting another event in 2022.

Michelle S.

Yelp
What a fun and original experience! Will come back again for sure. However, the service and logistics at the Alex & Ani tent were horrible. Our server basically told us she wasn't going to have time to come over and take our drink orders. And to start, we were seated at the wrong table - our actual table didn't seem to exist. This all became more awkward when the group who were actually supposed to be at the table arrived 15 minutes before the match was supposed to begin, and were not happy that we were there.

Brandon E.

Yelp
We had a great time at the polo match, it was a fun & different thing to do. Would strongly recommend to anyone who's never experienced it before!

Samantha M.

Yelp
Every time I come here, I have a great time. The announcers are wonderful, the property kept clean, the bathrooms (despite them being "porta potties" aren't too bad. I plan to venture here again to enjoy more friend and family bonding.

Danielle A.

Yelp
We went to a match for a bachelorette party. We got tickets for the lawn, which were very affordable. We also were able to pay extra to have them set up a tent for us, which was a big hit amongst our group as well as many other attendees! It was a great afternoon, and I loved that we were able to pack our own coolers for drinks and snacks to keep us occupied.

Yelp
This is definitely a must do, add it to your summer bucket list type of place...What an incredible evening...Our friends looked for a fun thing to do for their kids 1st birthday and Newport polo couldn't have been a better choice. They apparently reserved a spot under the already setup tents way ahead of time. I would recommend going with the cheaper option and bringing your own tent and sitting across the way because there is very little room to set to set up chairs and sit and actually watch the match. The tents are all connected so there is no way to spread out.. Everyone is grilling, children are screaming and well.... I just needed a little space (and another cocktail...) However besides that this was a fantastic evening and i loved walking around and seeing what each person did with their tent... Im not completely sure but i think they have prizes for the best in show... We saw some tents decorated with gorgeous floral arrangements, table linens, a raw bar etc etc... You are going to want to polish that silver platter for this one, and leave the foil pans at home... Its also a pretty awesome sport to watch... The horses pounding the ground right in front of you... you can feel just how powerful they are as they run by... I am not one who is much for sports but this... tailgating and all, I can do!

Yelp
Having never seen polo before, we thought it would be a special afternoon with the family. Match started at 4, but gates open at 1 pm. We got there one thirty and set up our tent and chairs first row on the edge of the field. Tailgating is encouraged and many folks go all out. Nice to walk around and check out the area. Field is open to the public before the match for frisbee, bocce or other lawn games you may bring. Amazing to see how fast and athletic this sport is. You get very close to the action and the kids were entertained throughout.

Yelp
My family has been attending polo matches for the past 7 or 8 years. It is a favorite tradition of ours. We typically go with a large group of adults, some children, and dogs. It is essentially a fancy tailgate to watch an intense sport (with a hilarious announcer), dress up a bit, drink champagne, and enjoy a picnic.

Deb B.

Yelp
Tons of fun for everyone! Great customer service and reasonably priced. Love you can BYOB and picnic on lawn

Yelp
Newport Polo is not to be missed. One of the great fun things to do during the Summer. This is Polo as it is meant to be: casual or dress up, tailgate or tables with linen--great fun for everyone. The Polo is exciting and the setting is breathtaking.

Yelp
Up until this time I've had a great time and great experiences at Polo. This is review is for the mishandling of an unfortunate situation by a manager on duty. During the "sweaty hand-slap" at the end I was smashed in the face unintentionally by a player. I was literally stunned and in pain after retrieving my glasses. My friend walked me over to the main tent area to get ice, I was directed to the bar and asked to speak to a manager. A man came over with a cloth and filled with ice while a female manager (I will not disclose her name) who proceeded to tell me that it was on my ticket that they waive any liability during matches. Unfortunately I was in general admission and never received a ticket with any of this information nor is this information available on the website. I was never offered to be seen by an EMT and instead was offered a free alcoholic beverage. This was a completely inappropriate response to a person who potentially may have a concussion and is also thoughtless and blatantly irresponsible. Regardless of whether this was unintentional by the player or under my assumed liability this was an unprofessional response. The manager did not have business cards to offer and provided nothing further. I will be following up and making sure others are just as informed about this situation. I also have a lovely swollen right eye socket.. awesome souvenir.
