Pario - Review - London - The Infatuation

"Damien Hirst’s Vauxhall gallery is getting a new restaurant in the form of Pario. The menu hasn’t been released yet but we know that British produce will be at the heart of all the simply cooked, seasonal dishes. And if you're in any doubt about how much the Pario team loves produce, check out their Instagram which sees them reverentially holding up vegetables for the camera. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

I was in the area so popped into Newport Street Gallery to see the current exhibitions — Raging Planet and The Power and the Glory (28 March – 31 August 2025). It’s free to enter, surprisingly quiet, and well worth a visit. Both shows are thought-provoking and beautifully curated. There's also a café on site if you fancy a coffee afterwards. Go while it’s on — you won’t regret it.

Thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to this hidden gem of a gallery. Staff at the front desk couldn’t have been nicer and the space is amazing, really showcasing the larger works in great lighting. Enjoyed a pit stop in the Pharmacy 2 cafe where there’s urns with free tea and coffee. There’s also a vending machine of cold drinks and snacks and a paid coffee machine. Gutted it doesn’t function as a working cafe or bar though as it would be fab for the area. Accessibility: Staff (security I think?) were great at assisting me to use the lifts & suggesting the best way to navigate the rooms. Gallery spaces don’t have seating in them but there are large benches in the stair well space. There were signs to accessible toilets but I didn’t use them.

Free to attend, with 2 exhibits on the ground and 2nd floor! Loved the natural and scientific edge in this gallery. U cant beat the free drinks and biscuits too! Worth a visit for everyone :))

One of the best new art galleries in London. Great exhibitions, award winning architecture and free entry. Staff are super helpful and the gallery spaces are beautifully designed. Highly recommend.

An amazing gallery to visit. Spacious, light and always displays work that inspires, confuses, questions, entertains and amuses on display. Over the years I've visited most shows and I am always happy to return. The staff at the entrance desk are always welcoming and friendly which is refreshing too. There are free lockers you can leave your cloak and dagger in, and toilets available too. And sometimes if you are lucky there's free tea and biscuits, but you have to be quick, or else they are gone!

This is Damien Hirst’s large, beautiful gallery that has been open, apparently, for about a decade. It used to be an old building but has been lovingly converted into a wonderful place, with several large and very tall ceilings. Some natural light, high quality finishes and thoughtful architecture abound. It gives the impression that money was no object when deciding how to make the gallery. There is a a decent-sized café called, oddly, The Pharmacy – but when you get to it you realise the name is not so strange. It is themed and decorated as a pharmacy, stuffed full of works by Hirst on pharmacy themes – there are vitrines of packages, and of surgical tools; the seats are giant drug pills; the seats have custom themed decoration, and more. Plus butterflies. Delightful! The only problem is that I have never seen it actually staffed and in use. Some of my pictures give an idea of the look. One the few occasions I have visited, it has been empty. More staff than visitors. Apparently that is less true on weekends. It is about 5 minutes walk from the nearest bus stop or about 15 minutes from the underground. I didn’t much enjoy the exhibition I saw on my latest visit, for all its brilliant artistry. The entire building was full of paintings all in much the same style and with a limited range of themes. Very different sizes to be fair. I suppose it is the kind of display that would be useful if you are looking for source material for a Masters or Doctorate thesis about this series of paintings; but not so great if you just want a normal gallery visit experience. Still, I look forward to seeing other exhibitions here in future.

Went to see the Wes lang exhibit. Great exhibition. Loved the work. The theme was right up our street. The details of the brush work were amazing

Yelp
One of the most out of the way random locations I've ever been to as it is in between main stations so prepare to walk. On first visit what will hit you is the clean lines and whiteness of it all. It is very similar in feel and mood to the White Cube on the other side of the Southbank. It's so clinical, white and spacious it perfectly marries a modern theme of art and the restaurant that Damien Hirst wanted to portray it would seem. It's actually two floors but a lot of rooms that are vast wit very high ceilings and lots of Space to see the art from back afar. It feels like the gallery of the future. Something you might see Kubrick do for one of his films, and for that it gets high praise from me. The exhibit wasn't amazing but the space did let the work sing as you walked through it and did that job well.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the ornamental hysteria exhibition. Newport gallery is so cool...big space, well designed building in Vauxhall industrial area. It is free admission. The prescription restaurant is looking fantastic with the drugs concept design. If you are in the area, don't miss out the opportunity to visit.

Yelp
Newport Street Gallery is a brand new art space in relative nomansland. I wonder if it will do the same to Vauxhall/Lambeth as The White Cube did to Bermondsey? Criticism or doubts about regeneration and gentrification aside, Newport Street Gallery is a beautiful place, even before you have seen a single piece of art. And don't be put off when you learn that Damien Hirst is the driving force behind this venture. You don't have to be a fan of dots or pickled sharks to enjoy the gallery. While affordable examples of Hirst's own works are available in the shop, the gallery space is given over to works of art in his collection. Entry is free, and the art is great - what's not to like! There are plans for a restaurant - perhaps a bit unimaginatively called "Pharmacy" like its original in Notting Hill Gate. Expectations are high whether he'll be able to create the hype and wonder of the YBA years.

Yelp
A walk between stations, the Newport Street Gallery is a large gallery space, hosting a series of exhibitions from Damien Hirst's private collection. Everything about it is just cool - the vast expanse of white, the items inside, the bar / restaurant, and even the staff. Whether or not you like Damien Hirst or the collection on show, it's worth a visit if you're in the area. We were there during the Jeff Koons show, which included a massive 'balloon' model dog and some items I'm sure won't be to many people's taste (i.e. erotica featuring Koons and his ex-wife) - I can't say it was to mine either! Always worth an attempt at expanding your mind though. It's worth noting that you need to store bags in lockers which take a £1 coin; just ask at the front desk if you don't have any change as they can provide a returnable token.

Yelp
To some extent a gallery review is likely to be influenced by impressions of the exhibit viewed. So, for that context: came here for the Jeff Koons show. There. There's my disclosure. Thoughts on Koons aside, I really adore the Newport Street Gallery. It's small and, in Vauxhall, kind of out of the way. But that adds to its charm in a way. The overall impression of the gallery is: sleek, white, modern. I love the space itself; it's bright and well-suited to showcasing a wide range of art (paintings on the wall, larger installations, sculpture). The staircases are notable, an impressive mash-up of white and wood. It's a "small" gallery, but also quite roomy...I know that is a contradiction of terms, but just roll with it, mmmk? I'd happily visit Newport Street Gallery again (and again) (and again). Ideally on a weekday, as the weekend was quite packed with folks. Yelp note: have also reviewed the Gallery bar, Pharmacy 2, in less glowing terms. Yelp note 2: open until 10pm on Saturdays!
