Some Montreal Nightclubs Are Closing Due to Coronovirus — But Not All | Eater Montreal

"In the Latin Quarter, Newspeak is similarly capping capacity for events rather than cancelling artists outright, though the venue may be forced to close if cases rise." - Tim Forster

Went on a Friday and it was almost empty, good music , and fair drink prices.

Morally bankrupt institution. They are a nightclub—a place where many young people take party drugs—yet refuse to serve complimentary cups of water. It’s illegal in Quebec for businesses with liquor licenses not to serve free water. This strikes me as dangerous given the drugs that may be floating around people. Perhaps that water could save someone from passing out. This is a club that does not care about its patrons.

The venue was pretty great for the Jyoty concert recently. Easy entry although it was a bit confusing with the coat check as it seemed everyone had to wait to get through regardless of coat or not. Didn’t have an issue getting a glass of water from the bar, and there were plenty of places to leave the main room and sit throughout the night.

Really nice venue that is pretty small but not too crowded (at least when I went) so you can enjoy dancing in the crowd at the front but you can also go further back to take a break or have more space! The lights and sound system are pretty good, just bring so earplugs as usual when going to a club. Plenty of bathroom stalls, which is nice, and the drinks seemed reasonably priced. I much prefer the Newspeak rather than the bigger clubs like New City Gas with far too much people and, often, a less easy-going and friendly crowd.

Google
the club is so cool, the staff sleeps standing up and we got in 20 of us without paying, the bartender if you don't leave a tip she throws the drinks on the floor, a show!! we did it several times she went crazy hahah. We had a great time, highly recommend!

I had a good time there, a lot of the recent reviews say the staff was bad but they were very good with me and my friend. I even gave the coat check lady too much money and she gave me back the extra coins and just took what she needed. The vibe was nice with the sort of EDM music I like (hardstyle drops, there was some special dj playing this time). There are also places you can sit if you want, which I really enjoy at clubs. The bad and why I put 4 stars is simply the venue is not designed well for sound acoustics, it's not the largest and shaped as a rectangle and the low ceiling also hurts the sound. If you are big on sound and have the ear for it you might not want to come here, but if you are looking to have a good time and dance it's fun.

Yelp
Never had a bad experience. The music is good, no dress code, bottle service, or VIP tables. Tickets are usually cheap

Yelp
Don't let the 1 stars fool you, its not THAT bad. Went here to see Dusky and it was better than expected. The dance area is a bit narrow so its hard to get to the front where the sound was better, it was a bit weak in the back. Crowd seemed pretty cool and everyone was having a good time. The lineup is pretty packed with house/techno artists if that's your fancy. Drinks are weak af as per usual in Canada.

Yelp
So far the worst club I've been to in Montreal. Artists displayed there are interesting but a few times I went back home instead of enjoying a performance for some simples reasons: - Even if you buy your entrance online you will wait forever before getting in - The place doesn't follow rules and let so many people entering so it becomes a whole mess, way too crowded - Bouncer is rude, even if you are on the guestlist and polite - Crowd is like school kids/students so you get an idea about respect that runs there Honestly not a place I would go unless my friends beg me, and even I would need to be quite drunk before agreeing with this non sense. I guess like every other club they have business no matter what so they probably won't change anything, otherwise I'll be happy to change this review if they do...

Yelp
A bunch of us went dancing here on a Friday. It was appropriately empty at 10-11. However, I enjoy going to dance clubs that aren't deserted early on in the night. I like entering a place and feeling like the party has already started. When I went the cover charge was 12$ which is a little steep considering that other clubs in the area are free to get into. The cover was due to there being a visiting DJ. Once he came on ~1AM the music was Damn Good! Everyone was dancing together and the vibe was joyful and carefree. The bartenders were sweethearts that night too. They even gave two of us free water bottles since we were dying of thirst. I recommend if you are into trippy trans music and are ok to pay to enter.

Yelp
I went there about a month ago to see Layton Giordani. The vibe was good, the crowd was respectful. The bouncers and the staff could be a little nicer but i wouldn't say they were horrible. My biggest issue was the dancefloor. It was on the narrow side and the sound is plain awful if you're dancing in the back of the dancefloor. I would go back there but only if it's a dj that i want to see.

Yelp
I have been going to clubs in mtl for awhile and this place is consistently the worst. The staff treats everyone terribly and will deliberately overcharge. The lighting is tacky and the sound is just mediocre. This place is never worth it.

Yelp
I don't know who would ever go here willingly. Me and my friends came here on one of our last nights because of the amazing reviews. We get to the door and the bouncer is immediatly rude to us asking us if we had a ticket then giving us a rude scoff when we did not even though you could buy tickets upstairs. We get up there after walking 5 flights of stairs in a dark, smelly stairwell. We get up to the front and the ticket to get in is 21$ just to hear some awful dj play one single beat all night. The girls at coat check were stand offish and practically ripped the jackets out of our hands. We decide to sit down amongst the 20 other people there (keep in mind this is on a saturday night). The drinks are over priced, the workers are rude and the music is awful. If you feel like spending quite a bit money then find a better club that you can actually have fun at.

Yelp
worst club in the city... Do not bother going to this place. Bathrooms are disgusting; staff is unpleasant and the booking are not that great. Most of the bad artist bookings get redirected towards this venue. The promoters are not that great either and the drinks lousy.
