"A meal at Nezunoya has the same heartwarming effect as a visit to grandma’s house — if you have a rather health-conscious grandmother. Just a short walk away from Ueno Park, this grande dame of Tokyo’s vegan scene has been providing homey meals since 1978. Owner Fusae Torii serves up old-school vegan cuisine based around the concepts of the brown rice diet, which was popular in Japan in the 1960s and ’70s. Open only for lunch, the place serves a small but lovingly cooked menu consisting of a (highly recommended) daily special, vegetable curry, rice-ball set, and a few desserts. Daily specials tend toward home-cooking favorites like croquettes, fried spring rolls, or veggie cutlets, served alongside a generous bowl of miso soup, all made using ingredients that are mostly organic and grown in Japan." - Chiara Terzuolo

Everybody knows that it could be difficult to find vegan/vegetarian food in Japan, especially in Tokyo. This place was amazing, the staff was lovely and kind, very clean. The menu was all vegan: we got the main dish menu and the rice ball menu, plus a small dessert. The food was delicious, simple but very tasty. The menu also comes with roasted tea. I would come back to eat here every other day. The same family also owns an amazing shop with organic food connected to the restaurant. A perfect stop after a heartwarming lunch! (P.S. they all speak English!)

Such a beautiful place in many ways that I will definitely visit again. A fish charm that slowly dancing each other, Wonderful owner and staff, Beautiful minimalistic vegan foods. It felt like I am in home. Last order is at 3 but you can eat it until 4. I loved quiet environment while I was eating. Also non alcohol beer brought me huge joy of peace too. You can really feel the love they put into making the food. The cake set is one the cheapest and most delicious I’ve had in my two weeks in Japan The staff is very friendly and welcoming A must for vegan people

Great food. The dish is well thought out; it contains combinations that blend perfectly, but you wouldn’t think that they would by just looking at them. The taste is outstanding; easily my favourite vegan restaurant. It is refreshing seeing the Japanese take on vegan food. The staff can speak English. There is free WiFi available for guests.

Got the lunch set and homemade cake. The food was very good, perhaps just a slight notch below the best restaurants I've eaten at while in Japan, but still very much worth visiting. Very much enjoyed the tempura, soup, and cake. Friendly staff, excellent service. They even gave my friend and I a small gift at the end (tea and rice crackers). I'd definitely come back. Edit: I came back 1.5 years later and enjoyed another good meal here. Great spot for a homey feel and relaxing lunch. Photo added. Plan to return again in the future as able.

All vegan, with an organic shop (not 100% vegan but a lot of stuff) right next door run by the same family. Menu changes but I got the fried tofu, soup, brown rice set. I recommend going for the dessert & drink set too! So many side dishes too! Super healthy and delicious!

Quaint, quiet, really cute and incredibly clean delicious food. Menu is limited with an English translation, but you won’t be disappointed. The lunch plate was large, and incredibly flavorful. Main for the day was a potato katsu with a soft potato mash with lentils sandwiched between two slices of potato, a hijiki side salad, fresh vegetables and salad, vegan cheese, clean brown rice, miso soup, and a warm cup of genmaicha. It’s the type of meal that is so filling but afterwards you feel clean and light, just as good should make you feel!
