Where to Find Houston’s Best Banh Mi Sandwiches | Eater Houston

"At this family-owned Asiatown hole-in-the-wall, you can concoct your own sandwich combination, choosing from up to four proteins to stack on French bread or a croissant. Opt for the shredded chicken, made from a special, time-honored recipe brought from Vietnam, and delight in the mayonnaise, which is so good you can buy a container to take home." - Minh Truong

Houston’s 10 Best Vietnamese Iced Coffee Destinations | Eater Houston

"Pick up a cafe đá or café nóng with Nguyen Ngo’s croissant-style banh mi, laden with chicken, pork, pate, meatballs, or ham. The café đá is made to order, leaving room to specify just how strong and sweet each cup should be. Nguyen Ngo does share a parking lot with Lee’s Sandwiches, but the style of coffee is quite different." - Christina Autry

Two New Pho Restaurants Debut in Asiatown - Eater Houston

"Also located along Bellaire Boulevard, less than two blocks away from Pho Ga Dong Nai, is newcomer Mr. Pho, which quietly opened in mid-April. Occupying a small 49-seat strip mall space in the same shopping center as old-school Vietnamese haunts like Thien Thanh banh cuon house and Nguyen Ngo Cafe, Mr. Pho is the passion project of three male friends — Kenny Pham, Yen Gia Lang, and Sonny Pham — hence the name, Mr. Pho. “We all love to cook and eat and drink,” says Pham. “Yen is well known for his broth. I’m well known for my steak. Before we opened, friends always raved about our food, so when the opportunity for this space came to our attention, we said, ‘Let’s open a restaurant where we can sit back and drink and enjoy.’” The menu is a simple one-pager filled with two soups and four rice plate options. For soups, the main dish is a Northern Vietnamese-style beef pho, pho Bac, made of 14-hour beef bone broth which comes with toppings like rare, marinated filet mignon. The beef pho is customizable with other common beef toppings such as beef meatballs, tendon, brisket and fatty flank. The second dish, which is already getting rave reviews online to rival their pho, is the bun bo Hue (spicy pork and beef noodle soup). For rice plates, the options include com suon bo dai han (Korean-style bbq short ribs with rice), com bo luc lac (shaking beef with rice), com ga xoi mo (Vietnamese fried chicken with rice), and com chien duong chau (combination fried rice)." - Mai Pham

Google
Nguyen Ngo French Sandwich is a well-known Vietnamese sandwich store in the Houston, TX area. Sometimes, I stop by the store and buy some sandwiches. I like their croissant BBQ chicken and grilled pork sandwiches. Their Vietnamese sandwiches are absolutely delicious. The cashier is always friendly to the customers. Most customers order the sandwiches to go. There are a few dining tables for people to sit down and enjoy their sandwiches, but many customers just order to go. The store's atmosphere is not cozy.

Jessica Rose

Google
The audacity of yelling over the phone telling client doesnt know how to order. tell me to drive to the store so she can teach me that. well im the 1st time client and have no idea what you are selling in the banh mi. instead of calmly explaining, she chose to argue and act like I was the problem. Guess what she still got my orders wrong after she “taught” me. I asked for veggies to be separated all my orders have veggies in there. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s the owner—only someone who owns the place would feel entitled enough to treat customers like garbage and think it’s okay. heard my viet co-workers get their food here but wont return.

Google
Really good Banh Mi. The chicken was very good; however, the traditional combo sealed the deal for me. Cash only so don’t be caught off guard. I will be back soon.

Khanh Dinh

Google
Unfortunately, this establishment only accepts cash but there were no signs indicating that. It would’ve been helpful to know beforehand. When the cashier realized I didn’t have cash, she became very rude and unpleasant to deal with

GG Shinra

Google
Don’t really write review much but this one is a MUST Waited for almost 30 mins for my order even on a Monday, past noon time. The quality is horrible compared to the past few years. Asked for only carrot as veggie and they gave me like a few pieces Expensive compare to other places like Don Cafe, Thim Hung, etc.. If you want to waste your time and money, here is the place

Thuc Nhan Tran

Google
The absolute best Banh Mi outside of Vietnam, in my opinion. Fair price, fast service, no fuss. Must visit every time I'm in the area. I also got the corn milk to try, and it was delicious!

Remember when you found "the one?" The one person who gets you, completely. The one tv show that makes you REALLY laugh out loud, really loud. The one pair of jeans that double as your second skin, that you wear over and over again without washing. Well, when it comes to banh mi, I've find "the one." The one good place that I find myself going to, week after week, and still not getting tired of. The banh mi here is the best in Houston. Week after week, without fail, this place provides consistently delectable banh mi. I get shredded chicken, ham, pâté, and meatballs in mine for the meat, with the pickled carrots and less mayo spread. For me, this combination is perfect. The bread is crunchy enough, without being too crunchy to the point where you just have hard bread. The meats are flavored perfectly. And who doesn't loved pickled veggies? Simple, delicious, and consistent - when it comes to banh mi, this is "the one" for me.

Gabriel “GFlo” Flores

Google
This place offers really great Banh Mi with the unique twist of using croissants. I’ve had my fair share of Banh Mi from different markets in Boston and NYC and I was really impressed. Outside of the bread the rest remains the same for your usual Banh Mi. The menu is really reasonable and I would suggest trying one with three meats. If you’re new to these careful for the jalapeño, I love the kick but just a fair warning for those who can’t do spicy. This place is CASH ONLY so please make sure you have plenty of cash for your meal. I would aim for $10 should be enough for just one person.

Yelp
The Banh Mi (#1) landscape in Houston is as vast as it is competitive. Nguyen Ngo's claim to fame is their croissant banh mi, which has garnered plenty of local praise. As much as it's a gimmick, it's enough to keep bringing me back. The croissant is soft, which is a nice change of pace from the usual choice mouth cuts of the classic French baguette. The croissants used to run out everyday by 2 to 3:00 p.m., but lately I've seen them available even into the evening. I particularly enjoy one slathered in extra pate with dac bet trimmings. It might not look as hearty as a regular banh mi, but it is definitely one of the more unique items in this part of town. The regular banh mi is also a decent choice. The appeal is a notch below the croissant ones but I've still had a pretty good luck with their thit nuong (grilled pork) with an egg and lots of pickled veg. The interior is as dingy as most dated places within this plaza. There is however a very quiet vibe which makes me want to spend time in here and not have to deal with people watching at a coffee shop. There are some tables to spread out but it's rarely ever truly busy in here except for on the weekends. The place is owned by an older Vietnamese couple that speak very good English. Every single time I've been here I've only paid in cash and I don't think they take credit card. Parking is pretty easy because it's in a shared lot and I would avoid using the restrooms if at all possible. Ultimately, I don't know if they serve the banh mi in town, but they are one not to miss. ____________ (#1) Say it with me, BUN ME. Enough with that auto-bahn-mi sillyness.

Yelp
I would consider Nguyen Ngo a top 3 banh mi place for me. The bread is that perfect French bread and nice and crispy. Comes with all the right toppings: cucumber, cilantro, carrot, jalapeno, and some of that special sauce (though I wish mine came with more). The pork is great, will have to try the grilled beef next time. Prices are decent, despite inflation, but $10 (cash only!) will get you two banh mi, which is more than enough for a satisfying meal.

Yelp
One of the best Banh Mi spots in Houston hands down! Super affordable and absolutely delicious. They do not skimp out on any ingredient. What makes them unique is their croissant Banh Mi. Such a genius idea that I'm surprised not more places are doing. Delicious cold cuts of meat and pate inside a buttery croissant... my mouth is watering just thinking about it again! Definitely support this local favorite of mine and be sure to bring cash!
google avatar

Morris P.

Yelp
One of the best and underrated banh mi spots in Houston. Excellent customer service and their croissant version is a must try

Yelp
Maybe I'm spoiled by some really amazing Vietnamese banh mi in Philly. But this was just not it sadly. Highly recommended by locals and some yelpers. Counter staff were rude. Felt like we were bothering them by buying their product. We got a sandwich to try since it was recommended. Got their special or dac biet and it was disappointing.
google avatar

Thuy P.

Yelp
My 1st time trying this place. Order some banh mi and Vietnamese coffee to go. Heard a lot of good recommendations to this place but unfortunately can't agree with the rest of the group. The sandwiches are too dry. The good thing about Vietnamese sandwiches are the special mayonnaise (or butter) but look like they didn't have it on. The sandwiches are too dry to eat. The Vietnamese coffee aren't the best I have had neither. Can't say this is the best banh mi in town. Price range is ok maybe cheaper toward other places.
google avatar

Thuy V.

Yelp
It's cash only take-out with limited seating. They have one of the best banh mi piled with goodies. The choices are limited though. Service is rushed so you better know what you want before you approach the counter. The thick banh mi is worth the frenzy.
google avatar

Kim K.

Yelp
Mom recommended this place. Wow, what a hidden gem! Prices range from $4.75-$7.25 depending on the type of sandwich you get. They have baguette or croissant options. They are not shy with the amount of meat they put on the sandwiches. Flavorful and tasty. Put this place on your Banh mi list.
google avatar

Andy D.

Yelp
I come here pretty often. They make their own cold cuts, pate and such that you can order on the side if you decide to make your own sandwiches at home. There isn't so much of decorating or anything, it's does its job, they have a few tables inside to dine in. Comparable to most banh place but they sell smaller loaves as well so if the regular size is too much for you. If you don't let them know the default dac biet (special combo) is chicken pate and floss. You have to let them know you want pork. Flavoring is different. Why 4 stars? They're good but it's not to die for banh mi. Pretty standard. I've had better so I'm leaving room for improvement. I'll be back for sure.
google avatar

Aryani N.

Yelp
Bring cash! Size has gotten smaller over time with inflation! You'll see someone's uncle hanging out drinking coffee, maybe solicitation outside. All those things are normal! LOL. Expect to spend $5/ea banh mi. IF YOU WANNA EAT LATER, let them know and they separate the veggies from the meat. The time is reasonable for when the sandwiches come out from ordering. Service is fast, quick turnaround time, reasonably priced meal. They'll call your name when it's done, and don't forget to bring cash!
google avatar

Samantha L.

Yelp
Still on the hunt for flavorful banh mi. We were in this plaza by circumstance for lunch. Saw this shop, got myself a pate, pork, jambon combo for $5.75. Bread was fine, filling was fine, but I think they use white/ not Asian mayo. It was distinctly obvious. The banh mi lacked overall flavorful, but not the worst I've had in this city. I do like you can build your own choice of fillings.
google avatar

Yelp
A no frills banh mi shop that was our FAVORITE vietnamese restaurant in Houston, and better than the banh mis in SoCal (Although this was the only place that beat Cali in our books) --dac biet banh mi: perfectly crusty bread, it had the right amount of pate and surprisingly the shredded chicken (which I had never yet ordered in a banh mi) was also good! The hubby enjoyed it so much he got another one to eat at the airport on our last day in Houston NOTE: They also do croissant banh mi but we didn't try it
google avatar

Tina N.

Yelp
Bánh mì xí mại ga is my favorite if you're looking for a good chicken banh mi . Their special combination is good too
google avatar

Christine H.

Yelp
There are lots of banh mi shops all along Bellaire, and there's a Lee's Sandwich right in the same shopping center, but Nguyen Ngo has got to be one of my favorites. All the banh mi's come on Vietnamese French bread that tastes especially good and crispy if you ask to get it baked. You can choose what meats and other ingredients you want inside. The banh mi's also have inside your classic pickled carrots and dikon and Vietnamese mayonnaise. My favorite meats that I like to put in my banh mi would probably have to be jambon French ham, chicken, and pate. I also like their banana cake too which tastes like a sweet banana bread with chunks of banana. Because I live more than 3 hours away from Houston, I always like to even buy a whole bunch of banh mi's from here for me to take back home! That's why I always have to come here every time I make a trip to Houston!
google avatar

Neko T.

Yelp
saw other yelpers mention dac biet here comes with chicken. ordered it as is. it's good. bread was good, generous veggies, chicken was good. there's just so many options so not sure i would come back here unless i was in the shopping center for something else (thien thanh). also minus one star for not accepting credit.

Robert B.

Yelp
This local mom and pop shop has better sandwiches than Lee's Sandwiches. You must go early if you want to try the croissant version. We liked it so much, we came back for more sandwiches the following day.

Yelp
Attitude and customer service are number one and should be top priority for any business owner who trying to operate a restaurant and gaining customer. i meant this place i ran into a woman i believe it's a owner wife, she had a freaking horrible unacceptable attitude toward me as customer who just trying to order her sandwich. no matter how good the food is but if this attitude is horrible then i never would come back and i recommend you all should not go to this place as well. also look at the chicken sandwich they made, the chicken is super burned how can we eat stuff like this?? it will cause cancer for this. so dumb
google avatar

Yelp
This was once upon a time my favorite banh mi spot. Despite being a total hole in the wall, where the vast majority of orders were taken to go, I would frequent this place for the best banh mi in Houston. Back in the day, it was always bustling around lunch time with often long wait times. Unfortunately the quality here just kept slipping, and with every subsequent visit, I felt more and more dissatisfied with the product. The banh is served barely warm now. The meat is flavorless and small in portion. The bread is barely toasted. My guess is that they don't go through what they prep now, and the meat potions have been cut back. Nguyen Ngo were always one of the more expensive banh places, and one of the OGs. I spent years inhaling their fabulous banh mis with little regret. I've just moved on to better banh mi. Houston's banh mi game has stepped up over the years, and cutting back on quality doesn't fly in this highly competitive market. I'd noticed the crowds here had grown smaller and smaller with each consecutive visit, so I don't think I'm the only one who has noticed the drop in quality. I'll hold on to the sweet memories of better days for this place. Hope they are willing to step up their game one day
google avatar

Emma B.

Yelp
I'll be honest - I've read other reviews for this place, and I don't get it. I've literally never had a problem ordering here, or with the food; the quality is great, and the service is straightforward. It must be almost 10 years since my Vietnamese brother-in-law introduced us to Nguygen Ngo, and this is still our favorite banh mi place. Then again, maybe it's because we always order pretty much the same thing - the large special banh mi. It comes with chicken, pate, french ham, and the typical veggies (pickled carrot, raw jalapeno, cilantro, sometimes scallion greens). It's a truly excellent sandwich that's seasoned perfectly every time, and as long as you don't come too late in the day the bread will be nice and crispy without being too dry or stale. The only thing I would maybe watch out for are the Jalapenos, which can be randomly spicy - but if you're cautious, you can ask them to leave them out. We've only had them get this part wrong (for one of our more spice-averse friends) a couple of times, but that can happen at literally any food place, especially when there's a language barrier. Keep an open mind, and maybe this could be your favorite sandwich too!
google avatar

Thuy T.

Yelp
My fav place for Bánh mi. I always get the 4 meat combo. The old man is friendly. Prices are really good considering the inflation. My in-laws love this place too. We eat here weekly.

Ivy D.

Yelp
Very good banh my Bread very soft and fresh. Flavor is on point. We usually buy a lot Togo and still able to enjoy it at home
google avatar

Alex P.

Yelp
Probably the most robust flavor I've encountered in a Banh mi and I've come back over and over for the past 5+ years. My favorite is the chicken, pate, and French ham combination. The only thing that's keeping me from 5 stars is the hit or miss customer service. Once I ordered a banh mi with chicken and meat ball and was dismayed to find none inside besides what appeared to be just veggies and chicken. The next order was fine as the owner promised, but I've never encountered this issue with the 3 combo mentioned above.
google avatar

Ha C.

Yelp
Review on service, food has been a hit or miss lately. They have always been rude and snappy...which I'm used to but this case... My child's stroller malfunction and he almost fell out while I was trying to go order. I moved to the side so another customer can order. My 6 year old was like 2 feet from the plant and I'm on the floor. Owner didn't ask if we were ok, instead lectured us rudely to be careful not touching her poinsettia plants. If you are so concerned your plant being damaged, don't place it near the front cashier area. I ordered the mayo togo for 2 potluck events. I was trying to order the large one, but the gentleman claims to one small container is plenty and basically kept pushing for me to buy the smaller one. He was incorrect, it was not enough.
google avatar

Yelp
3.5* very good banh mi but needed more protein! Large banh mi w/ 3 meats CASH $4- CHICKEN, MEATBALL, PATE- First time trying their banh mi during coronavirus (they close at 6pm on Fri). They ran out of croissants, and that's what I really wanted to try! However the baguette was surprisingly very good (better than Don's Café which I had a couple weeks ago). Not hard/crispy like some places that end up cutting the roof of your mouth, and I didn't have a bunch of crumbs all over my shirt/car. It was very tasty and moist! ONLY COMPLAINT is that the protein was sparse. I couldn't really tell where the chicken was and where the meatball was.

Sushi S.

Yelp
DO NOT COME HERE i bought chicken combo , pate tasted like spoil , chicken they over cooked left a lot of black stuffs that could cause cancer later i had to throw away all of them the pork meat tasted like been over a month bánh mì thịt ở đây bị hôi thiêu pate bị thiêu ăn rất hôi bánh mì gà bị cháy đen rất nhiều nếu ăn nhiều sẽ bị ung thư
google avatar

Chibuzo E.

Yelp
This is disappointing. I couldn't eat here. After they took my order, which was limited because they didn't have so many items. Then the worst offense: THEY ONLY TAKE CASH!! I gave them 3 stars because parking was okay, the service was good, and they're following covered protocols to this day.
google avatar

Bo B.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this spot. The banh mi here is pretty good. Food: Croissant - very good with the pate and pork Original - very good with the pate and pork
google avatar

Betty M.

Yelp
Everyone was ranting and raving about this place for Bánh mì(Vietnamese subway sandwich). Tried it and it's any different than other Bánh mì places! Lee sandwiches is just as good!
google avatar

Nick K.

Yelp
The ban mi was okay. The bread was dry and the chicken was grounded and mixed with a sauce. It was an interesting choice.
google avatar

Cindy S.

Yelp
The sandwiches here are amazingggggg. Tried beef, shredded chicken & pâté, and a jambon- all over croissant bread. Delishhhhh. Next time I would go easy on the mayo and add pâté to everything. The restaurant is typical Chinatown level clean (meaning not very) and parking is a disaster (of course). I recommend doing takeout. Be prepared for a long-ish wait because this place is super popular and apparently everyone orders in bulk. The café sua da (Vietnamese iced coffee) was so good. Delightfully nutty, very strong, and a lovely toasted bean taste. I enjoyed it immensely! The basil seed sugar cane water was yummy too.
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
Best place to get Vietnamese coffee, hands down. I would also recommend getting their Banh mi as a croissant sandwich - it enhances the sandwich!
google avatar

Thu A.

Yelp
Honestly this place was not too bad. But customer service was come out pretty aggressive . Bánh mì was not that good , it was just ok. Bánh mì was kinda plain and there is not much that stand out for me . Overall 3.75/5.
google avatar

Erin Y.

Yelp
This place is my pick for the best banh mi in Houston. I only order the combination banh mi because and at $4, it's a solid lunch on the go (while still treating yourself with the amazing baguette and tasty pâté). I can't put my finger on why I feel it's the best, but the flavors and textures work so well together. This place is also known for their croissant banh mi's so if you want to indulge more, you can, but I'm not a fan of croissants so I stick to the classics. For COVID, they're not doing dine in. It's hard to get them on the phone so you'll have to likely order in person. Parking is easy enough in the large strip mall parking lot (much easier than HK4). Check this place out! Caution CASH ONLY!
google avatar

Loi P.

Yelp
I was mind blown when looking up Banh mi spots in Houston and found that this place offers a Croissant Banh mi. The combination is an ingenious pairing and the owner needs some type of award or medal for coming up with this wizardry. They allow you to add up to 4 proteins/options. I wanted to do 5 and add eggs but was advised that was too much . Definitely a must try.
google avatar

Ann L.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to get banh mi/Vietnamese baguettes. This place is located in the same plaza as Lee's Sandwich, in the opposite corner. Easy parking. The inside was a lot more spacious then I expected but usually people will come, order, and then leave. So you won't see customers dining in. They have an easy to read menu in Vietnamese and English. You can customize how many meat you want on your banh mi. One thing I like about this place is that you can get the regular banh mi or the croissant. Croissant is a-must. Reasonable price, maybe a bit pricier than other places but defiantly worth it. Service is fast and friendly. Can't go wrong with their banh mi. It's always crispy and hot. Their thit nuong/bbq pork is the best meat. Good portion on the meat. One thing though, it's cash only!
google avatar

Lucy T.

Yelp
Atmosphere (5/5): To-Go only during the pandemic! No chairs or tables. Proud of y'all! Service (5/5): Ordered via phone and picked up in-person. Transaction was quick and easy! They even remind you that's it's CASH ONLY! Food (5/5): Bánh mì thịt nớng and croissant thịt nớng was AMAZING! The egg was just runny enough. It was still crunchy when I took it home.

Yelp
I finally found a Croissant Banh Mi that doesn't BLOW So if you come with me, so to speak, I will SHOW You where it is, what to get, and then you will KNOW That the best Banh Mi in town is at Nguyen NGO And you need to come and try it now, ALTHOUGH Les Giv and Tap Place are other places you should GO You'll die from pleasure like Jason Scott Lee did in the CROW Cause no Banh Mi is better than Nguyen NGO So after you and I hook up in the CHATEAU With me and Barbie and your boyfriend as a COMBO Right in the middle of the AFTERGLOW Let's head out for Banh Mi at NGUYEN NGO So good you'll cut your ear off like VAN GOGH It's so cheap, you can keep your funds in ESCROW Like Hailee Steinfeld, you can even come SOLO Cause no Banh Mi tastes as good as Nguyen NGO WHAT WHAT to get: Croissant Banh Mi WHAT not to get: A Cross Ant. Angry ants can be scary. The battle for the best Banh Mi sandwich in Houston rages on. But as far as I'm concerned, it's over, because Nguyen Ngo is the Nguyen-er. Get it. Get it. The rivals, in my book, are: Tapioca Place - with the loveliest owners and great drinks and is a real contender. Les Givrals - iffy service, with perfect sandwiches. Lee's Sandwiches is a national chain but makes a very good sandwich, and their biggest location in the country is here in Houston. However, my secret personal favourite is right here in this little corner of this little forgotten mall on the backside of Chinatown, which Vietnamese locals have told me is actually Vietnamesetown, not Chinatown. Speaking of backsides... OK we'll talk about that later. Back to the sandwiches. Nguyen Ngo serves spectacular Banh Mi on soft delicious Croissant sandwiches. You can get traditional bread if you like (and you should, because it's great), but their croissants are really really really good - and it works. Service is great and prices are absolutely Rock Bottom, which is awesome for customers, but makes me wonder how they stay in business. Because their products are really really good and worth a lot more. And Chinatown prices (in general) are medium to high, but these prices are completely dirt cheap (like, it has to be said, most Banh Mi shops). Definitely one of the best sandwich shops in the city and easily a five-star destination. One of the best Banh Mi shops I've ever been to, anywhere. Make sure, if you're in Houston, you give it a try. Also try the Lemongrass Chicken one at Tapioca Place and the Pork ones at Les Givrals in Midtown, and see which one of the "big three" floats your boat without letting in water. Wait what am I talking about. Maybe I should just rap. So let me finish up with another fine FLOW I first tried this sandwich long AGO Barbie loves it from her pink hair to her pretty pink TOE There's no better Banh Mi than Nguyen NGO So bring your fave girl, or your ma, or your BEAU And bring your main chick, or your fave side HO Settle down with a 'wich and a cup of Viet JOE Cuz the best Banh Mi in town is at Nguyen NGO From Chinatown Bellaire it's just a stone's THROW And when you taste it you'll be like WHOA And it'll cost you hardly any of your DOUGH So come for Banh Mi with me at Nguyen NGO So stop snorting the powder that looks like SNOW And forget Cali Sandwich (that stale meat THO) And don't touch me there, cuz you're making it GROW And come with me now for Banh Mi at Nguyen NGO WHAT
google avatar

Chris H.

Yelp
Got the special combo banh mi! It was good but sadly lacking in veggies and meat. There was barely any pickled carrots and cilantro. Also, only 1 thinly sliced ham with some shredded chicken on the bottom. For what they charged, I would expect more. The flavor was there though which is why I'm giving them 4 stars. Definitely could've been 5 stars.
google avatar

Anthony D.

Yelp
This little hole in the wall is tucked away in the plaza across from HK. Parking was full, at 8 am, and it seem that every available spot was guest heading towards here. I felt like I was rushing to the store to beat other people. It was a very nice homie ambiance. I opted to for take out banh mis and they roughly came out to 5 dollar a pop. I throughly enjoy the banh mis and they were quickly made!
google avatar

Stephanie N.

Yelp
I've been searching far and wide for the best banh mi and so far Vietnam still beats them all. As this place puts out a creative way of introducing the Vietnamese sandwich with a croissant or the baguette as the base, they did a great job! Service was fantastic and both versions were great. My preference would be sticking to the traditional baguette. The croissant was tasty, but too buttery and it is presented untoasted. The crunch you typically get when you bite into the sandwich is not there, it's flakey and the flavors change from the bread choice. The regular banh mi was still good. I wish the bread was thinner, but the meatball was flavorful. You get a good amount of carrots, cilantro, cucumbers are thick and so is the jalepenos. Great place to try! Service was quick, seating is available, snacks are also great. They have traditional desserts and chips for sale!

Yelp
So... here goes my time spending on this review... This has been my place for so many years. The customer service was never great since day 1. But I ignored it because at least the food are good with quality made and lots if meats inside. BUT NOW! Slowly sees that the quality of food is gone. Literally BARELY any meats in there for the "combination". But still keep my mind positive that may be just an error this time or whatever reason it is. But Nooooooo.... Its actually consistently with the less amount of food, pale looking meats. I mean... customer service sucks already now the food sucks too???? whats the whole point going to this place anymore?? Btw i forgot to mentioned. EXPENSIVE butter & pate when u bought them separately. HUGE difference in price with other places. FRIENDS & FAMILY OF MINE WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE ANYMORE!! NOTHING ELSE IS HOLDING US BACK.

Yelp
The meat is just too good. I am very picky about my special. The thit is harder to find but so glad they have it. Here are my recommended meats to try: Meatballs - a little sweet but very juicy so it makes the sandwich less dry. I suggest u ask them to go easy on the mayo if u add meatballs Chicken- shredded and flavorful. It's dry if u eat alone but with the mayo, absolutely delicious. Pate - this is a must. Don't skip it no matter what. Boiled Pork - thit. My favorite meat bc of childhood memories but I have no words to why I love it so much! Only minor complaint, why can't they put more veggies???

Yelp
The croissant with shredded chicken is so good it's worth driving from Dallas to Houston to buy all the croissants available.

Yelp

Yelp
Best banh mi I have ever eaten in my life. My favorite combination is pate, meatballs, shredded chicken, and ham (jambon). I ask for the vegetables on the side so that I can add the amount I like. Sometimes I like to a lot of pickled carrots in my bite and sometimes I just want to taste the meat itself. Their bread is the right mix of crunchiness without being too rough in the roof of your mouth or crumbling every time you take a bite. The shredded chicken is a little sweet and the meatballs melt in your mouth. The prices vary depending on the number of meats you want. I believe 4 meats is $4.00 (or maybe $3.75). They also offer croissant banh mi but I can't vouch for that as I have never tried it. Based on my deduction skills, I would venture a guess and say they are probably delicious. Croissants are delicious, the meats are delicious, vegetables are delicious, how can you go wrong? I have tried many banh mi shops in Houston and this is my winner.

Yelp
Such a "great" attitude toward customer. When I came to the place, there are only 3-4 customers, they were not busy. However, the lady behind the counter who I think is the owner of the place was so mean and disrespect customers. You need to change the way you talk to the customer, this is not the only place that's selling "Banh mi: in Houston and by the way, your "banh mi" is not that good.

Yelp
Honestly this place does not live up to what I've heard about it. Everyone raves about it so I had to try. I went on a Saturday and this sandwich doesn't deserved to be called a Banh mi. Few strands of veggies, barely any meat, bread was smushed. Bread also wasn't fresh and tasted old. I'll take my business elsewhere from now on.

Yelp
First time here. So disappointed in this place. First, customer service was NONE. I know lots of OG Asians don't have the best customer service but this was TERRIBLE. The lady was so unfriendly and so rude. No hello, no thank you, no smile. She literally looked at me until I ordered, repeated my order, asked for my name, and said the total. She yelled at me CASH ONLY when I took out my credit card (I read on Yelp it was CASH ONLY but it was habit to reach for the credit card). She even yelled at another customer in the store while I was waiting for my food. Now for the banh mi. There is barely any shredded chicken and pate in my banh mi. There are PLENTY of other places that have way more fulfilling banh mi. The baguette itself was decent, nothing considered great. The pate was good, at least whenever I was able to taste it. The shredded chicken didn't really have flavor and was dry. I felt like I was eating a veggie sandwich or bread for most of my banh mi ga pate.

Yelp
Oh god! what can I say? This place has the worst service in Bellaire. The lady owner is rude, mean, she has no respect for her customers, she treat them as they come to ask for free food. What right does she have to yell at the customers, after all, the only reason the restaurant survive is because of the customers. I went there for Banh mi since they were 1st open, long long time ago. Back then the lady owner was not at the counter servicing customers. It was her daughter and other family members and the banh mi was good then. Recently, the quality of the banh mi has been down. banh mi is no longer crunchy, the shredded chicken and the ham is less and has no taste. worst off, for what ever reason, the lady owner has been at the front counter instead of greeting and smiling at customers, she yelled and being rude and disrespecting her customers. If you want to pay and get bad service, talk down to yell at by the owner, then this is the place for you. Otherwise, there are plenty of places that serve good delicious vietnamese banh mi up and down Bellaire. And what's with the cash only???? They charge you sales tax but take cash only why??? go figure!
