The 38 Essential Restaurants in Boston

"This is the crown jewel of Dorchester’s noteworthy Vietnamese dining scene. Banh Mi Ba Le is a combination market and takeout restaurant — there are a few seats, but it’s best to get your food to go and eat it elsewhere, such as at the nearby Robert E. Ryan playground, weather permitting — and it’s best known for its grilled beef banh mi. The bread, which is baked in-house, is both shockingly crispy and pillowy, packed with fresh vegetables and sweet, charred strips of beef. There are few better sandwiches in the city, or anywhere. Wash it down with some passionfruit juice, and get some Vietnamese pantry staples from the market." - Eater Staff

17 Best Cheap Date Restaurants in Boston - Eater Boston

"Dorchester Avenue is bursting with good Vietnamese food, and you should eat at all of the restaurants dishing it out. Banh Mi Ba Le is a good place to start. Head there for, you guessed it, banh mi. This market and sandwich shop is short on seating — there’s only one table (at least for now, but expansion is coming) — so get the banh mi to go, and head toward the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum for yet another very Boston first date." - Terrence Doyle

I don’t even know where to start with this restaurant… this place is going downhill fast. I stopped in to grab a few snacks and everything was a letdown. The egg rolls were bland and tasted like nothing but plain ground pork. The fried dough? Just blah no flavor at all. Then I saw this patty that looked like an empanada and thought I’d give it a try. Big mistake. It was stale, cold, and tasted like it had been sitting out forever. I used to love coming here, but honestly… I think I’ll stick to Ba Le up the street from now on. Please throw all your old food away and stop selling it to customers!!!

This is a family owned Vietnamese restaurant and grocery. The food was delicious. Both the beef and chicken sandwiches were fantastic. The service was solid. Wheelchair access was easy.

Few months ago, I bought stir fried noodles. It was so bad and the smell was horrible. I called them and they told me that I put into the fridge couple days that was happening. They said I had to eat right away.I spent over $100 there how could I ate a lot of food there only one day? It didn't make sense. After that my friend bought a fish cake. She came home when she had one bite, OMG , their food kept many days, it was too old. It was smelly bad, If you are the owner, you need your customers back, you have to concern about customers's health. If you just only want only money and nothing else. You will be have trouble in future. Noone can stop by your place anymore.

Food here is old sour and spoil. First time I bought soybean drink the owner told me to take it out of the refrigerator. Brought it home. Take a sip. Try another one. It’s super sour. I called her and brought it back driving 45 minutes back-and-forth. She gave me a hard time saying it’s not spoiled Didn’t want to refund my money. Today I went in again after one year bought rice cake with coconut. Broughthome put the coconut in. It was so sour. The coconut has been spoiled. I will never come back to this place again. Owner is rude unpleasant ungrateful

My husband stopped by this afternoon to purchase 2 rolls of plain bread and half a pound of cold cut mixed ham. The total is $10. This is a rip-off compared to other bread stores. It cost almost double. One pound of cold cut ham at other store $10, their price is $15 (half a pound $8), and four (4) rolls of breads other store $2, their price is $4 or $1 per roll. I don't usually give review, but this is way too much. Stay away from this store!!!

Great little spot for quick vietnamese takeout. Their food is really good and usually not many lines. A great alternative to Ba Le if you want to avoid long lines. Their cold cut sandwiches are better than Ba Le in my opinion!
