Get to Know Boston’s 2019 Restaurant Openings, One Neighborhood at a Time | Eater Boston

"Dorchester is the place to go for Vietnamese food in Greater Boston, especially where Dorchester Avenue and Adams Street meet near Fields Corner. Bạn Tôi is a newcomer, but it’s already becoming a neighborhood favorite. Go here for grilled squid, jackfruit salad, and snails with corn. (And explore the rest of the neighborhood’s Vietnamese food scene while you’re at it.)" - Terrence Doyle

Only review braised beef. The bread and braised beef are delicious. Spacious parking. Prices are not cheap.

Delicious sandwiches and Eggrolls. Quiet and clean if you want a simple place for a sandwich. Don't expect to be waited on hand and foot..I will visit again

Google
Sandwiches are incredible. My favorite is the Roast Pork Banh mi. Would have posted a photo but demolished the sandwich. Everything is fresh. The parking lot is fast and furious. Coffee is great espresso with condensed milk DELICIOUS.. Cash only Easier, if you speak Vietnamese..

This food shop is not competitive compared to other nearby Vietnamese food shops. Some food items are overpriced. For example, a tiny portion of Vietnamese bean pudding (che dau) was almost double the price compared to other shops. Banh mi was sold at the same price, but it has much less meat and vegetables, and the pork was full of fat. This was my first time to the shop so I gave it a try and bought quite a few different food items. I noticed some red flags when I first came to the store but I decided to give them a benefits of doubt. For instance, even though it has a better parking area, better location, bigger store, and looks good inside, it has significantly fewer customers than a nearby shop where people often have to wait in a long line at the checkout. There were other red flags as well, but it is too long for me to say it here. After giving it a try, I feel like I just wasted my money. I don't think I will come back again. I prefer the other stores.

Google
... always did like this spot. Other Vietnamese restaurants have bigger reps. & renown than Nhu' Lan, but I prefer the cooks' hands here in making from bahn mi to the dishes on the line. Intensely flavorful, fresh, and varied, folks here serve you with a smile & bright personalities.

Google
Price are too high here. I tried to eat in and food quality very bad with same price when you’re dining real restaurants. Do not recommend to order from the menu. Specifically, Banh Mi isn’t good at all.

Google
Very rude servers! Didn't have any honor for guest and very disoriented orders. Not watching for guest who is in line next. Not very friendly helpful service. The foods also not new as it looks, very cold and tastes like over night food. Will not going back to this place and don't even recommend to anyone, unless you're an easy food consuming.

Yelp
Good grilled beef banh mi option! The bread is lighter and softer than other places. Although the staff may have limited English skills, they are friendly and sweet. They make the subs in front of you.

Yelp
Just as good as any other banh mi places . The staffs was super nice and friendly . Lots of items available for to go or sit down .

Yelp
My husband stopped by this afternoon to purchase 2 rolls of plain bread and half a pound of cold cut mixed ham. The total is $10. This is a rip-off compared to other bread stores. It cost almost double. One pound of cold cut ham at other store $10, their price is $15 (half a pound $8), and four (4) rolls of breads other store $2, their price is $4 or $1 per roll. I don't usually give review, but this is way too much. Stay away from this store!!!

Yelp

Yelp
Gotta love this local banh mi shop in the heart of Dorchester's Vietnamese community. If you are serious about Vietnamese cuisine then Dorchester Ave in Dorchester should definitely be on your radar. Nhu Lan is a fairly large resto for its type with inside and outside seating. The restaurant has a banh mi station making all the traditional banh mi staples as well as a display case for hot and cold foods. You go to the respective station point to what you want; your number will be called when the order is complete. I chose the pork banh mi with an assortment of various fresh and pickled vegetables. I was a little skeptical at first of the Italian looking bread being used but it worked perfectly; the condiments, various pork meats and the vegetables I requested were a veritable symphony of flavor. I wouldn't hesitate to return, the sandwiches are huge, delicious, economical at $4.00 and the people behind the counters speak English are very friendly and helpful. Great local spot for excellent quality Vietnamese fast food for those on the go.

Yelp
Although they seem to get less business compare to Ba Le, their crab noodle soup (banh canh cua) is to die for! Thick rice noodles with crab meat and fried pork skin. It's amazing! The broth is rich and flavorful . Other than that, I usually do settle for their traditional Vietnamese sub which isn't bad. Make sure to ask them to toast your bread! It's a plus!

Yelp
Bò bía $5.50 ! Dỡ tệ . Củ sắn cắt to và xào chưa chín . Vài con tép vụn ... sợ cách làm ăn của như lan này

Yelp
The food here is local fast and ready to go. The people who work here are always nice and provide great service. However the only thing I don't like here is the lack of respect the owner has for her workers. I always catch her yelling at them in front of everyone like they are children when I come in. Soon she won't have no one working for her if she keeps that going. If your going to open a business you need to treat your workers with respect so they can help your business thrive. I don't see it thriving here, I won't be coming back.

Yelp
Best banh mi I've ever had & I've been to the night markets in Vientiane in Laos. The bread is less crunchy then other places, it has some give to it. Vibe inside seems very authentic. 5 stars highly recommended.

Yelp
I wish the locals reviewed on here more since I saw a lot of people eating here. I initially went into the other side to grab some stuff to go like a banh MI but then I had the pleasure of seeing everyone eat a deconstructed noodle dish, therefore I had to try it. I got the HU TIEU NAM VANG KHO. If you don't include the KHO part then you will get a noodle soup dish. KHO means dry in vietnamese which essentially means a deconstructed noodle soup with the soup on the side instead of being inside the bowl with everything else. What an amazing dish, it is full of flavor and is well balanced with all of the ingredients inside. It comes with a soy sauce based sauce on the side and then your soup. The Sauce is to be added into the noodles if you feel like you need to add more flavor to your bowl. It has a variety of ingredients, from shrimp to quail eggs, char sieu pork , squid, and a fish cake . When you mix this up with some of the sauce on the side. It's such an amazing experience. This is perfect for a nice summer day because you get to enjoy the entirety of this dish without the soup making you sweat and drip all over. I can't say much about their other dishes because I haven't tried them yet, but I think I've found what's good here! There's a bunch of vietnamese places in Dorchester and typically they all have a pretty extensive menu. But the reality is that each spot is typically good for a few things imo. And for me this is it so far!!! I encourage you to try the other hu tieus in their KHO form if you don't like the ingredients inside the hu tieu Nam vang. I'm sure it's good too!

Yelp
Imagine you walk into your grandma's house and her old lady perfume is attacking your nostrils causing you to gag. The tofu with pork stuffing was breathtaking. I almost got a stroke from how horrible that pork was. The food is old and tastes absolutely horrible. The pork stuffed tofu is by the worst save yourself if you don't want mutating genes. The chicken they have is also dogwater. What poor chicken died to be made into that horrible chicken leg. Service is terrible, they pick and choose who they want to serve edible food. I got the roasted pork about one pound and paid. Shortly after they speak in Vietnamese to another customer saying the roast pork is terrible and they wouldn't even sell it to them. If you're not in their clan, they make sure you never come back. How dare they say right in my face the pork is bad to another customer and sell it to me 3 minutes before. Do not ever come here as I will not. Save the shit and keep your dna safe by not coming here. It's actually just such bad food and service you'll be on the suicide hotline.

Yelp
The pho tai (beef noodle soup) was really good, came with mint and bean sprouts as add-ins on the side. The real show stopper was the beef spring roll, they were tender and fresh. At dinner time, it was not too crowded so the food was served quick and the waitress was attentive.

Yelp
Do not buy the food there! Dirty and smell food, not fresh, they give old food for a week some more than the week They did not wear glove when they cut the heo quay They changed my 2 times when I was there They are not friendly there, rude people, rude owner

Yelp
Just moved here to dorchester and was trying restaurants by my place and walked upon this gem. Do you know the saying i love you as much as a fat kid loves cake? Well i love this place even more now. First of all its CHEAP and secondly not only portion is good but also its delicious. The people were extremely friendly too. 12/10 will come back tonight

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE- literally home, from home. I love the authenticity, & I know sometimes it's a language barrier but everyone works to accommodate and try to cater to everyone! I've been here 102637101x and not once had a bad dish!

Yelp
Fantastic. Ordered the clay pot pork with scallions and fresh ginger. It had the flavors of my childhood memories of Asian food. Fresh Spring rolls are fresh. Fresh. Fresh. Soups are varied. Tea is very good. This is the real deal. It's in a strip mall next to the Asian food market. It's a bit of a dump. The waiter may or may not understand you. Working class clientele. I love it. But, it is. A bit greasy. Nevertheless go find it and try it !

Yelp
Some of the best pho in Dot! The broth is aromatic and delicious. Service is always polite and prompt even during busier times. It's our go to for pho and we are surrounded by pho places. We get chix in beef broth. Yum.

Yelp
I don't know. This place is a hit or miss. I usually order BBH noodle soup here. Sometimes taste good and sometimes not so good. Anyway, I wish they smile more to customers. They all look so sad working there. I wonder why. Please cheer up so that I dont get so depress eating there. :)

Yelp
Authentic, fresh and affordable Vietnamese food. Best pho in Dorchester.

Mary S.

Yelp
Came here after my haircut to get hot che because my coworker recommended and it was no where near hot. It was sweet/salty. Desserts are suppose to be sweet.... The workers there were rude and rushing people in and out the store. Their egg rolls weren't even compared to the ba le down the st. I work in the food industry so I think they need to get hit with health inspection because nothing was in temp and food was just sitting out on steam tables that didn't even work! Will never come back.

Katie B.

Yelp
Very bad service, they left pepper lid not sealed properly, I went to use it, the entire container of pepper fell into my hu tieu, I called the owner and told her what happened, she said just scoop it out and didn't offer a new bowl. I was clearly upset and she said it was my fault not the restaurants fault..ummm maybe the person who last replaced the pepper didn't close lid tightly..that person would be the owner or the employees. I will never go back, they won't last as a reputable business when your treat loyal customers like that..Do not go here.

Sam L.

Yelp
Not authentic try somewhere else. The Vietnamese grilled pork chop came out warmish and hardly grilled most likely heated in a microwave! Only thing good was the sugarcane drink.

Olivia L.

Yelp
Im usually willing to let their mistakes go but today they got our entire order wrong, the vegetable toppings were nearly expired, and the nuc man was just vinegar, and the soup- the soup we didnt order was cold.
