The Twin Cities’ Best Hmong Restaurants | Eater Twin Cities

"Although Niam Nom Tsu’s Asian deli is primarily focused on catering, the deli offers grab-and-go Hmong eats, which often sell out by the late afternoon. The offerings change daily, but the tender braised sweet pork and freshly steamed rice rolls are must-tries. While you’re there, make sure to sample the delightfully chewy and brightly colored Hmong desserts." - Macy-Chau Tran

The husband greeted us, he was very nice and friendly. This place is far from me so since I was in the area and had been wanting to try their food, decided to stop by. Went around 2pm and looks like they were out of a lot of options already. Got steam rolls, spring rolls, and sweet pork. Wanted some pork belly and raw laab to try but they didn’t have any. Steam rolls are filled with meat, but not much flavor. Sauce tasted very peanut buttery. Same for spring roll sauce too. Nothing special for spring rolls, only two small shrimp and a small piece of meat in the middle. Mainly noodles. I’d say it was good pricing for the spring rolls and steam rolls, but Sweet pork- paid $10 for 1lb but only had one egg and 4-5 pieces of meat. Feels and looks like it’s not even a lb. Meat was tender and soft and good flavor but for $10 for this amount, I would pass. Probably won’t be going back.

It’s off of the little strip mall by Super America on Lake and 494 so there’s ample parking. This is not a sit down restaurant so don’t look for that in the ambiance, it’s focus is catering (sorry, I didn’t remember to ask if they have a catering menu but you can find them on Facebook) while offering some ready to go snacks, appetizers and food. I went around 2pm so it wasn’t busy and it looked like a small husband and wife team taking care of everything. The husband was very friendly and very patient (the customer in front of me didn’t really get tap to pay or that cards need a chip to use tap to pay). There were a couple non-Hmong customers checking it out and he did a good job explaining everything while trying to provide good service for everyone. I got the sweet pork, steam rolls, mini sesame balls, chicken wings and steam layer cake. The flavors were good, flavorful and not watered down to cater towards American palates. The sweet pork was good but I just wish the meat chunks weren’t so big (think two fingers thick and length for shorter hands) so it didn’t get a chance to get tender but the flavor was good, I really enjoyed it. The steam rolls were thick but had good peanut sauce and didn’t skimp on meat and fillings. This is definitely a little gem for when you want Hmong food and don’t want to do the drive to St Paul. The menu changes slightly from day to day from what I’ve seen. One drawback is the hours, they just opened recently so the hours are a little more cut back but their regular hours outside of it isn’t much different. Totally makes sense for more limited hours due to its main focus being catering but it makes it harder to grab some food to go. Overall, I’d recommend checking it out.

The food here is incredibly good, especially the steamed rice rolls — they're a must-try. They tend to sell out pretty often, which shows how popular they are. It would be really helpful if the restaurant could update their page or social media when certain items are sold out. That way, customers who are coming to pick up their orders can know in advance what’s still available and plan accordingly. Still, I totally recommend this place — the flavors are worth it!

We came on a Friday night to get Thai at the nearby resturant and stopped in here to check it out. The man working the counter, I assume the owner, was super nice and told us the story of the place and explained their menu and offerings. We got some eggrolls, a Hmong sausage, and some banana sticky rice. It was all really good and we really liked their sweet and sour sauce to dip the egg rolls in. Their pepper sauce was really spicy! We look forward to trying them again and I hope they have mango sticky rice to try sometime!

The food is good, but my only suggestion is to highlight the big allergens like peanuts. I did not know that there were peanuts in the Kapoon and I had to go into the Emergency Room. It is my fault as well as I should be aware and read the ingredients of what I'm consuming but just wanted to suggest to maybe put the big allergens separately underneath from the main ingredients list or even at the beginning of the list. Not the middle. Overall, good food though.

I’m thrilled to have discovered a new favorite spot for authentic Hmong cuisine right here in the Woodbury area—no need to drive into the busy city anymore for great food. This hidden gem has quickly become a weekly stop for my family. While the restaurant is primarily catering-focused, they offer a great variety of smaller portions perfect for individual meals. We recently had food catered for a family funeral, and everything arrived on time, hot, and full of flavor. The owners were kind, responsive, and accommodating to our specific needs, which made a difficult day a bit easier. Whether you're looking for comfort food or eager to try something new, this is definitely a place worth visiting. *Note there is no seating available as it's just a pickup and go

This gem of a Deli is just what the area needed! Starting with a genuine, always smiling owner who finds time in his busy day to warmly greet customers and inquire about their day, this store has TOP food choices to offer! I always buy too much because it is ALL so good that I can't single out just a thing or two. I hope they are met with success and continue to provide top selection for years to come! WARMLY RECOMMENDED! Tip - try the kale with pork!
